It's a shame Rooke was not picked for one of the tables, but I'm glad I was able to put some polish on the caydenite, making him ready to go for the next RotRL campaign. Congratulations to those picked! Have fun!

I agree, it would have been a lot of fun seeing Rooke and Jonathan fighting for Ameiko's attention.

Hello again, everyone!

Our group of cleric only Rise of the Runelords (anniversary edition) has need of a new member! Please, read the opening post for this recruitment for instructions if you're interested.

If you're looking for a fresh game, then don't read on, since you'll be starting at level 2 and reading on could mean minor spoilers for the story. If you don't care about that, then go on. You'll be joining the party after they have cleared the glassworks looking for a missing Ameiko. Please come up with a reason you weren't at the cathedral inauguration party (you're a cleric after all).

Changes to the original post:
- You're at level 2 instead of 1
- Don't do the HP for level 2 yet, we'll do that later
- Starting gold is 480gp

Current party:
- Dart: A charismatic Evangelist of Shelyn
- Dolgrin: A Herald Caller of Torag
- Izumi: A Divine Paragon of Shizuru

I'll give it a week for submissions, which means they'll be accepted until 23:59 (GMT -3) of November, 9.

Silver Crusade

dotting, I would love to be a part of the A-men.

assuming I don't get into a RotRL game I am currently applying for with monkeygod.

question, would you allow for the use of both these archetypes together? I was debating between two ideas, one using the following two, and one using crusader archetype

Angelfire-apostile

and

Blossoming light

Hey Anthorg! I'll resubmit my original character idea of Rooke Xandarian, cleric of Cayden Caliean.
The problem is the reason Rooke is in Sandpoint is wrapped up with The Rusty Dragon and Ameiko. So we might have to do some narrative gymnastics to make Rooke work.

Possible Spoilers:
How about during the goblin invasion, Rooke was defending the Rusty Dragon? And when word of Ameiko going missing got to Rooke, the caydenite went by himself into The Glassworks to find her, but got captured?

The Character:
Alimvic “Lim” Thefi loves fun, drink, and the ladies and he thoroughly celebrates the virtues of excess. While that is quite fitting for an undead lord cleric of Urgathoa*, it basically just makes him seem like the life of the party to anyone else. After all, he’s a cleric, not an evangelist. He sees no reason to shout her name from the highest rooftop.
*I chose Urgathoa as she fits the “living in excess” nature of the character that I wanted but also fits the undead lord aspect that makes Lim more unique. If, however, you’re uncomfortable with him worshipping an evil deity (and Urgathoa seems to me like more of a chaotic neutral party gal than an actual evil deity), I can easily plug in the chaotic neutral Calistria as his goddess and we’ll just have the death and undead factor without the domain quite fitting as all Undead Lords get the death domain)

What Does He Look Like?:
He's a fairly average height man who is somewhat slenderly built and not overly muscular. He has an easy smile and a mischievous gleam in his blue eyes. His shoulder-length blonde hair is typically pulled back in a pony tail and while his attire is typically fancy, he still manages to look casual in how he wears it. He does not openly carry a holy symbol and instead has a sleeve-type tattoo on his forearm with his goddess' holy symbol hidden in it.

What Traits Does He Have?:
His campaign trait is student of the faith to boost his channel DC and add to his healing.
His other trait is fast-talker since he may have to bluff a time or two.

Who’s That Skinny Guy with Him?:
That taller and very slender fellow who accompanies him and is rather significantly covered up with Osirian attire is Fenrik. Fenrik is a bloody skeleton (which the write-up does not indicate is actually bloody). Fenrik is presented, by Lim, as his personal manservant whom he saved from a fire while visiting Osirion. He then sadly explains how badly burned the poor man was (hence the constantly covered “skin”) and that smoke inhalation has left poor Fenrik unable to speak. However, they have become fast friends and have been together ever since as Fenrik fulfills the life debt he swore to him. This disguise is more effective given that Lim is actually a very talented costumer. In fact, he makes his living as a costumer for the Sandpoint theater as well as writing and performing music for their shows.

Why Would He Want to Protect Sandpoit?:
Quite frankly, because it’s his home. Being a bit further removed from the big-city reality of an Absalom or Magnimar, he’s less likely to run afoul of paladin types who might detect an evil aura from Fenrik. However, going adventuring and becoming a hero might be fun…and will certainly entitle him to free drink and more companionship. How could he possibly say no?

What Is His Fighting Style?:
He’s a negative channeler and the classic “bad touch” cleric using spells and the bleeding touch domain ability. Of course, he also has Fenrik who is more of the in-your-face combat-focused tank character. Fenrik has fast healing 1 and will re-animate in 1 hour if killed (unless holy water or positive energy are involved in his death). I particularly enjoy that aspect as I want Fenrik to be a consistent character in this adventure path rather than just a non-stop revolving door of undead henchmen.

Why Wasn’t He at the Festival?:
Lim was, in fact, celebrating and worshipping his goddess during the festival. He was just doing so at the Pixie’s Kitten with a favorite redhead. At one point during the Goblin attack, Lim came downstairs, covered in nothing but bedsheets, and confronted some Goblins who’d gotten into the main room. One quick negative channel and Lim was back on his way upstairs for some more worshipping…while Fenrik handled any remaining Goblin issues.

Where Did You Get the Inspiration for These Characters?:
If you’ve watched Critical Role, you might be familiar with Sam Riegel’s characters from campaign one. Scanlan, the bard, was an absolute womanizing rapscallion, but had a deeper caring nature as well. That’s Lim, though he probably doesn’t know about that caring nature yet. Sam’s second character, Teryan, had a silent automaton manservant named Doty. That’s basically the idea of Fenrik. Do I plan to play them exactly like those two? Of course not! But it was a fun starting point.

Who Is the Player Behind These Two?:
Oh hey, that’s me! I got into D&D back in the days of the boxed sets and played all through junior high and high school, but then stopped playing when I went off to college and ended up in a peer group that had no interest in the game. A decade or more after that, I found a casual gaming group again which introduced me to Pathfinder and then later to PFS and now here I am. As a player, I love role-play and would rather have interesting characters who have impactful connections to their story world rather than playing the most OP build I can make. Essentially, I would love to join in with this group in exploring the world, ridding the land of evil, and having some ridiculous fun along the way.

Opening post states that evil gods are not allowed. Sorry mate. Not that it can't work in this AP, it's just not what I want for this game.

Totally respect that and it's way I offered Calistria as an alternate. Just thought I'd ask since Urgathoa, as I indicated, is a bit soft on the "evil" aspect. So, consider Lim a cleric of Calistria.

Thanks for the feedback! Does everything else look ok?

Yeah, the format is ok. I just wish you didn't have an undead minion... But if the party's fine with it, I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

Definitely not trying to cause any moral dilemmas with it. I plan to roleplay it more like the automaton or eidolon type "servant" who's more of a helpful and silent friend/bodyguard. If you want to reskin it as a skeletal automaton or "eidolon" or something, I'd be fine with that. And since my cleric is neutral, I'd also be fine if want to have the skeleton not have to have an evil alignment.

I' prefer rather not, really...

Dolgrin is one of our players, by the way. And I'm not a fan of the idea either.

Perfectly fine. Consider the submission withdrawn.

I'll see if maybe I can put together a character who fits what you're looking for better before the deadline. Thanks for the feedback!

i might put a character together...if you're still taking applications

Still are accepting I believe

OK, worked on this for most of the morning, but I think I've got her pretty well fleshed out for your consideration. Oh, this is the replacement submission for Lim, by the way.

The Character:
Felicity Thorne is a devoted servant of Desna (a divine pilgrim/devout pilgrim of Desna, to be specific). However, her tendency towards absent-mindedness has led to her being nicknamed Fallacy. Her natural inclination towards wandering has fit in nicely with her embracing of the travel domain and it’s definitely been her second domain, luck, that has gotten her through far more situations than her own planning. She serves as a cleric of Desna, but her “day job” is being a fortune teller. She rather enjoys traveling the world with little more than what she can cram into a backpack and her harrow deck.

Appearance:
Fallacy is a slightly-built gal with pale skin and blonde hair. She often looks somewhat disheveled and her attire often doesn’t match. She might, for example, have a braid on one side and a loose piggy tail on the other, mismatched socks, a coat worn under a vest, a scarf tied around her middle as a belt, and a cloth sack worn as a hat.

What is her fighting style?:
She is somewhat focused on ally buffing and can use her luck domain ability (to roll a d20 twice and take the better result) on an ally at up to 30’, however, she also has a high DC for the debuff spells she casts. If she needs to engage in melee or ranged combat, she is quite capable in both melee and ranged as the guided hand feat lets her use her wisdom to all attacks with starknives.

Why Wasn’t She at the Festival?:
Actually, she has every intention of being there. Since it’s not until next week, she has plenty of time…or so she thinks. Time is hard for her since it’s so linear and she often finds that a straight line is the most boring way to travel. She has actually been to Sandpoint multiple times before, so the absent-minded gal arriving days late for the festival will likely surprise no one.

Like with the initial recruitment, I'd be very interested in this.

My idea would be for an Oread who was born as the child of two Shoanti, one from the Shundar-Quah and one from the Skoan-Quah, but due to the mixed heritage and his planar association he is a bit of an outsider in both Quahs. At the same time he is very invested in both of them, focusing on knowledge of Shoanti tradition, oral history and community. He'd be a worshipper of Erastil, though very much a Shoanti interpretation of the god.

Mechanically I'd be looking at using the Foundation of Faith archetype, representing his ties to tradition.
The Foundation of Faith should also work quite well as there already are 2 other channellers.

A question though: Would you allow me to pick a Druid domain for such a character, specifically the Wolf domain?
The Wolf itself is a totem for the Skoan-Quah and if you look at the spell list and abilities I'd say it quite closely represents the nomadic nature and close knit communities of the Shoanti.

As for why he wasn't at the celebration: Why would he be? He's a Shoanti, the cathedral is a settler thing. He doesn't need a building to worship.
As for why he is in Sandpoint now, he was asked to come by Garridan Viskalai, the brother of Sheriff Hemlock, months ago in hopes of steering his brother, said sheriff, back onto the Shoanti way. Well, he didn't ask specifically for my character but since he's the youngest fully initiated shaman the duty fell to him.
As for why he'd stay to help out, it's twofold. First is what he perceives as a duty to aid his fellow servants of the divine and second, and something that should grow more profound as time passes, a feeling that staying and helping would be in the interest of all of Varisia.

So, they overlap, so that's a no.

Silver Crusade

Fair enough. They alter the same ability just not in an exclusive way. I'll see how what I can do with a more martially inclined cleric.

Here is my submission, Doli of the Skoan-Quah, more often known as Fertile Soil, Tender of Tales, Shepherd of the Pack or, less friendly, Stone Giant Runt.

I built her assuming the answer to my question on whether Druid domains are allowed is positive. I did however change the Druid domain selected to Plane of Earth, representing my character's elemental nature and her connection to the Earth Elemental totem of her two Quahs.
If Druid domains are not allowed I'll change the domain or grab the Separatist archetype.

The character also became female instead of male for a fairly simple and frankly quite banal reason: There are no good avatars for male Oreads, only the weird blocky one and that doesn't really work for me (for this character).

Background:

Doli's birth within the Skoan-Quah was met with quite a bit of surprise. Sure, they knew her mother had a tempestuous relationship with a runner from the Shundar-Quah but the child looked like she had lain with a Stone Giant. Only through quick actions from the shamans was rash action by the rest of the Quah prevented, for they saw Doli for what she truly was; blessed by the Earth Elementals, the shared totem of her two Quahs. Still the rumours of giant parentage remained and still remain to present day.

Despite the word of the shamans Doli was shunned by many of her peers and many of the children were hesitant to play with her. Not that she didn't have friends, she did, but they weren't many. Within her father's Quah the situation was even worse as there even her family had trouble accepting her. Beyond her father it was only her grandfather that accepted her without reservations.
Things got a bit better when Doli grew old enough to become an apprentice to the shamans of her Quah, something they insisted on and that Doli eagerly accepted.

From the moment her training started it was obvious she had a knack for communing with the ancestors and with the great spirits, those called gods by the settlers and Varisians. At the same time her stature, which was tall even for a Shoanti and caused the giant parentage rumours to resurface, and strength also meant she was a decent warrior. Eventually her skills as a shaman even supplemented her skills as a warrior as she was able to increase her own strength and size even further.
Another thing she showed a knack for were the stories of old, taught to her by both her shaman teachers within the Skoan-Quah and her father and paternal grandfather, for their Quah were the keepers of Shoanti knowledge. Her knowledge of these tales increased even further when the shamans of the Shundar-Quah started taking party in her education as well.

This all truly made her a child of both her parental Quahs, though she didn't truly belong in either. Even as she passed the rites of passage for a shaman in both Quahs as well as those for a Skoan-Quah warrior she still wasn't fully accepted by all. People passed her by when looking for spiritual advice or the menial religious tasks usually performed by the junior shamans.
Yet it was this outsider status that also got her pulled into a scheme by the shamans of the Shundar-Quah. They wanted to reach out to the many Shoanti who had exchanged their life with the tribes for life alongside the settlers. Even if they did not come back to the fold they should at least by reminded of their heritage. So when a request came from just such a settled Shoanti to help his brother who had lost the ways of their people it was Doli that got given a horse and sent to the town of Sandpoint to return him to the fold.

@Cuàn: That's fine with the domain.

Might be good to have that... we don't fight well

Helaman wrote:

Doli is also very martially inclined, hitting things with her Earthbreaker and having access to the Growth domain to hit things with an even bigger hammer.

Only downside she has at the moment is that she's very slow so I'll have to figure out a way to deal with that.

You can wait and hit things that chase us when the rest of us run away :=)

Silver Crusade

Okay, I got hit with a huge load of work this past few days due to a couple of people quitting. This is what I've peiced together.

Cleric of Desna, human or half-elf of Varisian blood. (likely going down crusader archetype)
Will be making use of the divine fighting techniques (way of the shooting star) and focusing on melee or close range combat.

Mia follows the path of the stars, she provides fortune telling in addition to her clerical services. In fact, it's something she considers part of her duties. She was taught to use the dances her people practice in combat, using the spins moment to increase the weight of her strikes, and the fluttering of her scarves and loose clothing to conceal her target area.

She has tattoos of swirling stars and spheres of violet, pink and blue. covering her entire arms. She dresses in a range of colors of burgundy, lavender, pink, blue, and gold.

She wasn't as the inauguration due to having stopped to spend some time with her family, who she does not get to see often, ar a reunion and lost track of time in the festivities.

Personality:
Mia loves to dance and sing, but above that she loves to see the sights and wonder then world has to offer. She loves walking the forest during the fall as the leaves of red and gold fall in the wind. The snow capped mountains and crystal rivers in the summer. She is friendly, outgoing, and fiercely protective. She also finds enjoyment from a fight despite herself. The rush of it, the flow and rhythm has so much in common to a dance. She feels almost as close to her god in battle as she does when viewing a beautiful scene.

Without getting into potential controversy, why were people quitting? Jobs seem to be valuable at the moment

Silver Crusade

Difference on politics.

Silver Crusade

As I have been selected for the other RoTRL campaign, I will formally withdraw from this one.

Ok, submissions are closed. I'll consult with the players and I hope to have a decision by the end of the week.

Good luck to everyone in the running, and congrats to rorek55 on getting chosen for the other campaign!

So, we have a name. Felicity, will you please post with a completed avatar in the discussion thread?

Rooke and Doli, I'm sorry we won't bring you this time.

Thank you!
And it means that much more being chosen given what great characters Cuan and TheWaskally brought.
