Ahberanth of Griffon |
Ahberanth makes a face at the mention of undead and then says, "Of course we will help with your problem. Please accept our apologies for our intrusion into your shrine."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
* Clever Wordplay allows INT bonus to be used for Diplomacy checks.
The magister then takes in his companions and asks, "Alright, then. Which will it be first? It's quite possible that the kobalds might be alerted to our presence if you were to make noise while dispatching the undead. However, I believe it less likely that those same undead would be alarmed by anything less than our presence in their vicinity. So, will it be kobalds or the creepy, mostly-dead things? My vote would be to tackle the scaly, little creatures first."
A pause, and then a grin,"Of course, I could be wrong..."
Zarzezi Krig Minglenorf |
"That sounds like sound logic. However the gillman wasn't clear as to what direction each group was in."
Zarzezi heads over to each entrance to see if there are any clues indicating what might be down each tunnel.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Salmok |
North: Odd; South: Even: 1d2 ⇒ 2
"I say we go south. Something is telling me that we need to go that way first."
Ahberanth of Griffon |
The wizard sniffs the air, as if hopeful to find some innocuous clue that heretofore had yet to be discovered, allowing him to determine where the minions of the unliving resided. Ahberanth frowns as his nose fails to deliver and shrugs, "South, then."
GM Redelia |
You make your way down a passage that varies from 3 to 6 feet wide and is coated with bioluminescent fungi. You encounter several points where the tunnel branches off in different directions, but all of those paths either narrow too much for you to traverse, lead back to this main trail, or are blocked by a cave-ins. Trekking through the twisting passages takes approximately 20 minutes.
I've revealed more of the map, please move your tokens forward and then I will describe the cavern.
Kato Strongthrower |
Seeing an open area ahead Kato moves up, turning to put a finger to his lips to tell the others to be as quiet as possible. He slips forward to the edge of the opening, trying to stay hidden...
stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Ahberanth of Griffon |
During the winding trek through the tunnels Ahberanth uses his dagger to scrape off some of the bio-luminescent fungi and tucks it away in one of his free spots in his spell component pouch. Should any of the others give him an odd look he just shrugs and winks.
Beyond that, he does his best to be quiet, following Kato's lead.
Salmok |
Thanks Kato!
In his head, Salmok is identifying the rocks as best as he can. That looks like a basalt layer. Must be old. Wonder what era it comes from.... Even though he's examining the sedimentation as he goes, Salmok will be right on Ahberanth's tail.
Zarzezi Krig Minglenorf |
Zarzezi catches Ahberanth doing some scraping and being the person to never let a good idea go to waste, scrapes a bit of the fungi into one of his empty vials as he follows along.
thanks for moving us up kato

Eberyone but Ahberanth notices a trap. A kobold is on the other side of a shallow river, appearing to have just set the trap.

You all may act.
Kato Strongthrower |
Kato runs up a little and points beside him,"Trap here"
He then tosses a javelin at the kobold...
Javelin, Deadly Aim: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 3 - 2 = 18
1d1d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8
Salmok |
Salmok, noticing the trap Kato points out, runs up to it. Double move
He'll scream out at the kobold as he jogs up: "You desecrate this sacred place. Leave. Along with your traps."
Ahberanth of Griffon |
Ahberanth continues moving forward, oblivious, musing on the properties of the luminescent fungi, until his companions begin their frantic movements.
"Traps?" Blinking, he then sees the culprit across the stream and he rushes forward, his walking stick held up protectively. He stops right behind Salmok, gauging the distance to the kobald and frowning, knowing it's just out of his stick's range.
Frustrated, he holds his action, secure in the knowledge that his companions have the matter in hand.
Kato Strongthrower |
Kato looks at the kobold.
"That was.... easy. Hmm. I say we mark this trap and see what else is on the other side of the river. What say you all?"
Kato marks the trap as best he can with the tools he has. If it's safe to toss a rock on it to set it off, he'll do that instead.
Salmok |
"Does anyone have chalk? Marking the trap is a great idea.". Salmok will search his pack for some, but comes up short.
" Let's go up the passage. If I know anything about kobolds - when there is one, there are more hidden."
GM Redelia |
Your chosen route leads through a maze of tight passages that include steep ascents and short climbs as they wind from west to east. You can hear the sounds of a distant battle echoing through the caves, intermixed with inspirational tales of famous Pathfinders and the heroic deeds—it sounds like Janira, perhaps continuing to fight the minotaur. Continuing on, you notice a faint light at the end of the tunnel. Do you continue, or go back?
Ahberanth of Griffon |
JUST before we head across...apologies. Was waiting for permission to do this...
As Kato boldly decides to cross the river, Ahberanth purses his lips for a moment and then asks Salmok to point out the exact outline of the trap, wanting to be sure of the breadth of the entrapped area that he would have blindly stumbled into if not stopped by his companions.
Frowning, he mutters, "Acidium Respergo." and concentrates FAR more than usually necessary for an arcane cantrip, but when two outstretched fingers on his left hand appear to begin shooting acid, he somehow slows the rate of flow and streams the acid slowly in a trickle now, along the outline of the trap.
When he finishes, Ahberanth blinks and exhales sharply, and then wipes sweat from his brow on his sleeve.
"Ok. I don't think I'm ever going to do THAT again..." he sighs with a weak grin. Then, seeing his companions begining to move across the water, he leans heavily on his walking stick and follows.
Odd use of the Acid Splash cantrip done with the permission of the GM. Thanks, Redelia!
Ahberanth motions for everyone to stop once the see the light ahead, shrugging a silent question as to what they should do.
Zarzezi Krig Minglenorf |
Zarzezi says to Ahberanth "That's a neat trick" as he watches the effect of the acid splash.
Zarzezi then heads down the passage and pauses when Ahberanth raises his hand.
Whispering softly "Might as well move forward"
Salmok |
"Are you okay to move on Ahberanth? I have a shoulder for you to lean on if you need it."
Salmok nods to Zarzezi. "Yes, I will follow you forward."
Kato Strongthrower |
"Nice trick. I was just going to draw in the sand with a stick..."
After hearing Janira fighting the monster, "Let's go, we have to help her. We can come back and check the other passageway and talk to the merfolk after!"
Zarzezi Krig Minglenorf |
]"There must be multiple entrances to this place since she originally lead the minotaur away from the entrance. Might I suggest that Kato and Salmok take the lead while me and Ahberanth will follow behind. I wonder if I should bring out my crossbow as I'm down to two bombs for ranged attacks although I do have my trusty hooked hammer ready to hit anyone who gets close"
Ahberanth of Griffon |
"Not a bad idea. The crossbow, I mean." Ahberanth says absently, inwardly reviewing the incantation for his Mage Armor spell, remembering the words without summoning his will to perform the actual magical warding.
His walking stick in hand, which acted as both his melee and ranged weapon, Ahberanth makes no attempt to disguise his excitement and moves to keep up with Kato.

Janira shouts encouragement to you, and steps away, out of the minotaur's reach. 5 ft step

Kato Strongthrower |
Kato moves up, yelling at the beast.
"Hey cow for brains!"
he lets fly a javelin, hoping for an early hit.

Salmok |
Salmok, seeing Janira is in danger, runs closer to the minotaur.
"Come pick on someone your own size!"
Double move
Ahberanth of Griffon |
"Magus Armaturam!" the magic-user frowns as he advances and casts his spell, knowing that his intent to wait to make the best use of the protective magic is pointless. A minotaur stands before the group, threatening their guide. There is likely no better time.
As he finishes his incantation, a shimmering, protective force surrounds the mage, for a moment he in engulfed by a brilliant blue light which quickly fades to near-invisibility.
"We need to keep it distracted!" Ahberanth calls out, "She's been seriously hurt! Zarzezi? Can any of your potions heal from a distance? Salmok, have you got anything?"
Ahberanth of Griffon |
Redelia, Would Ahberanth have a chance of knowing any possible weaknesses of minotaurs with Knowledge: Arcana, History, Nature, or Planes? Yes, I know they probably don't, but Ahby doesn't, so that might be where his thoughts went next...
