Penelope fights only with a Heavy Shield. As those need to be literally strapped to your arm and can’t just be carried, and Janira said it would be dangerous, I imagine she would already have it out. If so, then...
Penelope winds her shield arm back, grabs the shield strap with her other arm, and lunges forward to drive her shield down on the snarling wolf’s skull with a sickening *CRACK!*
Attacking Blue
Shield Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Shield Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
She rebounds off the heavy blow and jumps back, preparing for the canine’s counterattack. 5-foot step back.

GM Redelia |

During the surprise round, Penelope crushes the life out of one wolf.
Zarzezi, your target is down before your turn. If Salmak likes the idea, we can say you called out a warning to him and he stopped one square early and your attack was instead against red, and we would keep the rolls.
We'll pause for a bit for Zarzezi and Salmak to discuss this over in the discussion thread.

GM Redelia |

Zarzezi's bomb explodes on the remaining wolf, who yelps in pain.
The wolf rushes forward and bites at Salmok.
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Janira sings, inspiring you to greatness. inspire courage is up.
the entire party may act.

Kato moves around the wolf into flanking position, knowing he might take a nip in doing so. He then tries to bash it with his flail.
Flail: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 1 = 21
damage: 1d10 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 1 = 15

GM Redelia |

AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
The wolf does indeed nip at Kato, but is unable to bite through his armor. Kato's flail smashes the wolf, who is thoroughly dead.
end of combat.
Janira cheers for you, impressed with how you are able to handle yourselves in combat.
any comments in character or anything before I move us forward?

![]() |

I wonder why those wolves attacked us. They aren't normally that territorial, I think.
Salmok looks down at where the wolf bite him. It's just a scratch. His bite didn't seem to pierce my thick skin. Salmok took no damage this fight

![]() |

"Good to hear. Yes, they normally wouldn't be this aggressive. Something may have gotten them riled up. Be wary."
He looks over at Penelope and says "That was an impressive move with that shield!" with a big grin on his face.

GM Redelia |

Janira congratulates you on a job well done. Then she encourages you to move again quickly to make it to your destination by dusk.
As you move on, you find your trail blocked by fallen trees and shortcuts overgrown with tall weeds. survival check, please. Aid another is allowed.

![]() |

Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Hmmm, looks like there are some tree blocking our path. Perhaps there is a shortcut through the weeds.

GM Redelia |

Salmok is able to navigate around the blockages and keep the team on course.
You travel for a few more hours.
The dense forest opens to a wide clearing at the base of a sheer cliff. Thick vines cover the surface of the cliff stretching 30 feet overhead. “Here! The cave entrance is behind those vines,” Janira says with a broad smile as she walks to the cliff’s face. She pulls back several layers of vegetation to reveal a narrow crack in the cliff’s surface. “This is where I saw the gillmen enter.”
As she motions toward the aperture, the surrounding woods come alive with the sound of small animals fleeing some unseen danger and a large creature crashing through the undergrowth. The halfling worriedly remarks, “Quick, take cover before whatever it is spots us!” As if she’d summoned the creature with her words, a massive horned monstrosity emerges from the trees. Standing eight feet tall on a pair of cloven hooves and wielding a tremendous axe, the bull-headed creature roars with unbridled anger when it spots the group.
Wisely assessing that a minotaur is beyond her charges’ capabilities, Janira screams, “A minotaur! There’s little chance we can stand against it. Take this bag,” she continues, pulling off her backpack, “and head deeper into the caves. Finish your mission. I’ll lead it away from the caves, lose it in the forest, and join you as soon as I can. Now go! GO!” She heaves her backpack into the cave, casts a spell, and darts off toward the minotaur before turning to lure it away.

![]() |

Are you sure you can... and Janira runs off before Salmok can finish his sentence. He'll take the bag and run into the cave without looking back to see if others follow.

![]() |

Ahberanth blinks, as if shaking off a haze, then nods, "Sorry. Just distracted. Concerned for the lady's welfare...ah, but there's naught to be done for it now, eh? Aye. In we go. Does anyone else need light to see?"

![]() |

Salmok will wait for everyone once we all get into the cave. Once Kato heads down the passageway, Salmok will follow.

![]() |

Ahberanth follows his companions, frowning slightly. He lightly taps at his pouches as if assuring himself that he's brought his flint and steel to be able to light his lantern, if need be.

GM Redelia |

Janira's backpack contains the following: potion of barkskin, potions of cure light wounds (2), potion of feather step, potion of vanish, scroll of entangle, scroll of gust of wind, scroll of identify, scroll of mage armor (CL 6), scroll of obscuring mist, wand of burning hands (CL 3rd, 4 charges), wand of cure light wounds (CL 3rd, 8 charges), acid, alchemist’s fire (2), holy water, smokestick, tanglefoot bag, thunderstone, antitoxin, and sunrods (2).
You see the minotaur chasing after Janira through the trees, fighting its way through the dense undergrowth. Soon the cacophony of the chase fades and the sounds of the forest slowly return to normal.
You carefully make your way into the caves. The narrow tunnel twists and turns for several hundred feet before slowly opening to a wider passage. A large hole spans the cave’s width and stretches ten feet down the path. At the bottom of the pit lies a small bundle of cloth.
no map for this little part

![]() |

Salmok opens up the bag. Janira wanted us to use the things in this bag, right? Should we split it up or just use the things in it when we need to?
As others look down in to the hole, the oread will look down too.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Anyone see anything down there?

![]() |

"I would appreciate the potion of barkskin. And are any of those scrolls arcane in nature? It didn't appear so at first glance..." Ahberanth arches a bushy eyebrow, and adds, "So, who's going down there? I'm not much of a climber."

![]() |

"I'll go check it out"
He pulls his rope out, taking a few minutes to knot it for an easier climb and then finding a good place to tie it off securely. Assuming the pit is deep enough to need it. He then nods to the group and begins down.
climb: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

![]() |

Kato looks around some more to make sure there is nothing else down here.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Assuming there is not he climbs back up.
climb: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
"Found this. Looks nice."

![]() |

It does look nice. You should keep it. Did you see anything else down there?
Salmok also asks if anyone is interested in the Scroll of Entangle. This could be useful for me.

![]() |

Kato shrugs. "Don't think there's anything of importance down there, although a nice cloak on it's own is suspicious."
Seeing people looking through the backpack Kato also takes a look, "Hmmm. Well, I might grab a cure potion and if our alchemist is taking the fire and acid i'll grab the Tanglefoot and Thunderstone."
For any future saves i'm assuming the cloak is +1?

![]() |

Derp. Completely missed it was an obstacle...I think I played this originally the year it came out, don't remember anything about it. :)
Kato checks the side walls to see if they are climbable and then checks the opposite side to see if it is climbable up from the bottom of the pit. Since the knotted line is still on him and anchored on this side he looks to the party. "I'll see if I can get the rope to the other side."
He then picks the best looking option (one side or down and up the other side of the pit) and starts climbing. If he makes it he will anchor the rope over there and help people over.
climb: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

![]() |

"Huh. Convenient."
Kato will pull the plank over and set it across the gap. He will also try to find somewhere to tie off the rope to give people an easier way over... If there is nowhere to tie it off he will just brace about 10' past the edge and hold it.

![]() |

Thanks Kato. That plank looks a bit ... not steady.
Salmok will cautiously step on the plank and slowly walk across it - without looking down!

![]() |

"Ahem." Ahberanth steps to the end of the plank and then attempts to cross as well, muttering to himself as he goes under his breath. Not s[urprisingly it sounds remarkably like "DontlookdownDontlookdownDontlookdown..."
