This is a pretty bonkers fight to begin with, and I'm super glad I'm in it with a wizard who can knock out a group of stirges in one blast :D
If only Sayuki had prepared for combat instead of ninja pranks...
GM Elberion |
Honestly, I am loving this adventure.
It feels like all of that RP, while great fun, is a massive rope-a-dope so that you walk into this chaos of an encounter.
Just the image of Ekanta in nothing but boxers, racing through the night with his staff, is brilliant. Add on Lackadee smashing through a little white picket fence with Vina, Tanya and Linka aboard.
And that doesn’t even include the actual combat!

You ran past Shel one way, then the other! And the image of Sayuki’s double-take the second time around is magic.
Ekanta Hanoi |
Who says I'm wearing boxers? I'm not exactly that knight from Ghosts N' Goblins....
GM Elberion |
Sorry, button-up tartan pyjamas, with a teddy under his arm.
Ekanta Hanoi |
No idea what he's wearing, but it isn't that (never really seen the point in pajamas).
GM Elberion |
Sorry for the absence.
I have been very busy and away from the computer this week.
Back to it soon.

As I have been dealing with new work transitions and somewhat neglecting my own games, I am not in any position to complain. :)

Saul becomes red in the face.
He has spent his whole life steeped in this tradition. Part of the tradition is the idea that only Ravenmoor folk really understand what goes on in Ravenmoor.
Also, this tradition has justified doing a bunch of stuff that is otherwise completely unjustifiable (like human sacrifice). It would take an incredible amount of lengthy and well-executed post-cult-extraction counselling for Saul to change his views.
I realised this was too long for the gameplay thread so have shifted it over here.
I understand that this is how your characters would react, heck, it's how I might react under the circumstances. From Saul's point of view, you are just reinforcing that you are judgemental, big city outsiders who could never understand. That there's no point talking to you.
Any scepticism you might present, he has already encountered and dealt with in some way, probably with direction from cult leaders that he trusts completely.
I say this because we could go round and round like this for quite a while. Not because I have a problem with the RP or anything, just because Saul is a stubborn true believer.
Shel is younger, more naive, more flexible and would not have to deal with a list of crimes (beyond allowing and at times enabling crimes to happen) that she needs to justify to herself. In fact, this is her first active crime: luring a young man to his death. And she has done that out of desperation to save her own life.
Wow, this is long post just to explain why... I just want to make this clear: you have absolute combat dominance right now and I'm not even going to make you roll any dice if you want to kill/subdue/whatever Saul and Shel. This is obvious to everyone in the barn. Saul is grateful that you have promised to save his daughter and he wants to believe you. He really wants it to be true. If he could, he would clearly just throw Salvius over his shoulder and carry him away. He hasn't because behind him an extraordinarily competent killer is throwing his weapon around and before him are a group of equally powerful people riding on a living tree that could rip his head off with ease.

0_0 Who's THAT?!?

Wait, are we there now? how long has Vina been there and how much of this has she witnessed? (Could you please give me the link to the first post/interaction between Salvius/Sayuki/Saul that she has seen? I will roleplay accordingly; thanks!)

I should probably have flagged it up more clearly.
Vina Sitha |
Ok, caught up now. Posted.
Vina Sitha |
@GM Elberion: is Saul ignoring Vina's question?

I've been offline for a few days now, returned and read up everything Tanya would be around for.

So Sayuki is our scout here yes?
What is the plan here? do we wait until Sayuki performs a sneaky pass around the perimeter or should Sayuki go to the door and listen / check for traps?
PS: Sayuki should wear her armor... donning armor is impossible once combat starts...
Sayuki the Duplicitous |
Yeah, I’m debating that.
On the one hand: yeah, armor!
On the other hand: Sayuki will be trying to keep her distance if combat happened, possibly getting elevated, and if all goes according to plan, she’ll scout first, then put on armor for the Actual Fight.
Vina Sitha |
No armor is always bad. [/nagging rant]
Ekanta Hanoi |
Why not? Surely your armor is of a sort with negligible or no penalties, and you had time to fetch and don it.
Linka Wind |
Disregard my proclivities in our other games. You should definitely put on your armor. Maybe even borrow a set of something heavier. Initiative is too risky.
Tanya V. Dugerechaff |
This is why my favorite armor is the Armored Coat. May be medium, but can be put on and taken off with a single action.
Linka Wind |

Fiiiine, but when an attack misses you have to thank us.
Also, what armor are you wearing? Your sheet says darkleaf leather lamellar, which would have an ACP of 0.
Sayuki the Duplicitous |
I'm indeed wearing darkleaf leather lamellar, but--
Wait, ACP of 0? I'll need to update that.
--but anyway, the Shinobi Shozoku grants a +2 Stealth mod... but only if you're wearing armor that gives +1 AC or less (not counting, like, enchantments and such).
(I need to play as Uwu again soon...)
Ekanta Hanoi |
Wanna scrub that '-4' next to my name there, DM? :)
GM Elberion |
Well, I don’t want to but I suppose I shall.
Ekanta Hanoi |
I’ll take the Hand if nobody else needs/wants it more.
Ekanta Hanoi |
*looks at slide #1*
Now who's idea was that...?

Messaging all games: I will be unable to post until Wed pm. Please bot me as needed. Thx!

Nadolig Llawen everyone!
I will be absent for the next few days because it's Christmas and I have small children. See you on the other side :D
Vina Sitha |
Merry Christmas to all! :D
Ekanta Hanoi |
New Year's Eve at my work is a living nightmare of paperwork.
You're a Cleric of Jergal???
GM Elberion |
How high up are Lackadee's eyes? How tall is he in total?
Vina Sitha |
Lakadee is a large-sized tree; everything else is guesswork.
My two coppers:
Disguises imply subterfuge or roleplay or diplomacy checks. Based on the slow response here, I would then argue that no one is really interested in going in that direction. I know Sayuki said 'yay!' to disguises, but that's hardly a plan, and I think one has to think of what the next steps will be if they somehow manage to believe we're cultists (and that's a big 'if'). In short, I think we should just move on to the next encounter with stealth and surprise instead, in order to shut down any sentries before they raise an alarm.
Ekanta Hanoi |
Ekanta is just silent and deferential in general (5 CHA will do that to a person); OOC, I would be in favor of moving in in disguise, if only for the opportunity to figure out what they're up to, then SURPRISE ATTACK if we don't like what we see!
The only obstacle? Hooves. You (DM) did say "feet" would still be visible - but if my robe can be tailored to hide them, that'll work.
