Inathel sees the logic in the chieftain's assessment and says "Yes, I had such suspicion, but I didn't verbalize it as it must be verified on the spot. But that seems the way of it."
What time of the day is it?

![]() |

Olnik nods. "Appreciate the tips. They should come in useful."
Yeah, is there anything else this evening, or do we rest for the night and set out in the morning?

MadScientistWorking |

Yes. You can rest and prepare spells
“I have cast horoscopes for your mission.," Urwal says without preamble, setting a pair of satchels full of traveling supplies by your campsite.
“The omens are favorable enough, although the stars carry warning. The spirits of Finadar Forest are sick. Perhaps this is an abscess in nature, and must be lanced with sword and f lame. But such a cure is to be mourned, not celebrated,” the lizardfolk says, emphasizing each word.
"Better for all if a safer salve is found. Yes?
"
In addition he gives you a hunters bane talisman and a bunch of valuables. This also includes a map of he area.
This talisman is a ring of dried, interwoven leaves. When you activate the hunter’s bane, you sense the exact location of the attacker, making it hidden from you instead of undetected. If the attacker is behind lead, the hunter’s bane fails and is wasted.
Activate Free Action Envision; Trigger An undetected enemy hits you with an attack; Requirements You are trained in Survival
Tomorrow I will have the next map up. I've been fighting a cold

![]() |

Glancing at the sheets, it looks like I may be the only one trained in Survival. If that's correct, I'll take the Hunter's Bane Talisman and affix it to my armor. Otherwise, I'd be happy for someone else to use it. Is that the only thing of the supplies/valuables that is called out? No scroll of destroy leshy or anything? ;)

Jolinaxus having rushed in, now re-assesses the tactical situation. Having noticed Kaclenna's lightness of foot (despite her heavy armaments!), as well as Dob's archery, and Olnik and Inathel's spellcasting from an earlier fight, he throws a quick flurry of blows with his drawn Bo Staff before retreating to a better defensive position, hoping to lean into the ranged capability of his party while exploiting the choke point the forest path provides.

Inathel has been too focused on thinking about the creatures they were fighting to actually do something. This must be that farmer's scarecrow., he thinks. Afterwards he also thinks I wonder if these creatures have minds. Dealing with creatures with minds is my specialty.
Then he realizes there is an actual fight going on and he should do something. He chants arcane words and his hands start sparking with electricity. When it's ready, he fires the electricity on the two leshy's.

You also know that leshies in general are rather chill creatures and are quite adapt at communicating. Your not to sure why they are aggressive but you briefly see writing on the tomb that may clue you in.

Kalcena with your mighty hits you are relatively confident that you would have killed the scarecrow even without it's present injuries. The centipede then runs away.
As you look at the gravesite Inathel begins to learn more about the area. This gravesite dates back from the ancient cyclopean empire which was well known for its fiend worship. You learn that the surrounding forest served as a battery to collect abyssal energy. The area that Urwal is sending you was one of the energy collectors.
Olnik you figure out that this abyssal energy is what's causing the aggressive nature of the spirits and leshys. You deduce that the effects are early on that shutting down the collector should bring them back to their senses.

"Nice work Kaclenna - your rapier strikes true!"
Later
"So Inathel, how would one go about shutting down this Collecter?" He asks, swatting his bo staff into his open hand "Is it a matter of breaking down it's outer shell? Or are there more mystical means to short it's circuitry?" Either way "The sooner we can shut down this abyssal engine, the sooner these plantfolk can stop being coerced into violence. I must admit the idea of fighting someone who's faculties are under possession of an alternate entity - an entity which is divorced from the repercussions of it's own malicious actions - is entirely loathe. Innocent's shouldn't stand in as casualties for the warmongering of others under any pretense." You get the sense he is drawing connections of this event to others from his past which he feels strongly about.
"And where is this foul machine? Point me unto it!" Looking around.

![]() |

Unwilling to admit he has no idea how to shut the engine down, Inathel says "These are ancient magical devices of an empire long buried. I'm afraid more study of the ancient monolith would be needed in order to come to a definite conclusion." He speaks a little more annoyed than he would like to demonstrate.

![]() |

"The Red Queen guides." Kaclenna explains to Jolinaxus as she sheathes her rapier. "Just as she defended us in Lastwall. So to shall I in her stead."
"Let's follow the foul path and hope it leads to this Collector. We can always use brute force to destroy it if necessary."

![]() |

"Does anyone need healing before we proceed? Kaclenna, I think I saw you take a bit of a hit... I can use that holly bush, perhaps, to save our spells."

Olnik since your trained in survival I assume your navigating. You can reroll this with a hero point.
Anyway, in addition to the runes you find an ancient cyclopean talisman which just is a staring eye.
Since Olnik is trained in survival I am assuming he is navigating. I will post later because the check does change how the next encounter works.

![]() |

Unfortunately, Sense Direction is a Secret check, so I shouldn't be able to spend a Hero Point on it, I don't think.

MadScientistWorking |

I forgot you were a bard. Thought you had some weird ability that could let you reroll.
nature: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
So you make your way to the Cyclopean battery and well the site you come across is kind of amazing. Dozens and dozens of weird and bizarre leshys congregate. Some seem to be playing a variant of patty cake albeit with multiple arms. Some seem to be singing. Others kind of look like they are stoned out of their mind. Inathel and Olnik you realize that they were just recently created and are overwhelmed by the new sensations like having limbs and a mouth.
The leshys surprisingly don't react with violence. The ones that do notice you seem to be hissing but take no aggressive actions.
At work more to come later.

Assuming Kaclenna wants the healing, I will go ahead and generate the holly bush. 2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 berries, each which heal 1 HP ... so I think she should get up to full with that. I'll have placed the bush back in the woods, at a location where I expect it would grow and thrive.
Olnik looks around, raising an eyebrow. "Now there's somethin' ya don't see every day. Was at a druid lunar moot once ... not this many leshies there."

![]() |

Jolinaxus stows his bo staff. He put's his hands up. He walks slowly to a "safe" distance then stops. His eyes are kindful. He prepares to speak...

![]() |

Kaclenna munches on the berries as she walks. "Thanks, Olnik. these are good." the juicy berry splashes in her mouth, reminding her of her home many, many years ago.
She watches as Jolinaxus stows his weapons and looks ready to speak. "Can you understand them?" She watches curiously.
