Sejon |
I assume I'm one of the Rhiannons on the initiative tracker.
I also have a question about reactions.
In this situation am I able to use Champion's Reaction before my turn?
GM Watery Soup |
I CAN cast two spells in a turn so long as they add up to 3 actions, right?
Yep! There are even spells that are cast as reactions (e.g., Feather Fall) so technically you could cast 4 spells. But 90%+ of spells are 2 actions to cast.
I assume I'm one of the Rhiannons on the initiative tracker.
Yes, you are Rhiannon #2. Sorry!
In this situation am I able to use Champion's Reaction before my turn?
Yes. I'm not sure why that line was written, but I suspect it was to deal with obscure Reactions that I don't know well.

Peregrine Sandpipe |
Peregrine stands his ground as the bear begins its charge toward the group and electricity begins sparking between his fingers. He stretches out his hand and lighting arcs toward the bear.
Electric Arc: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Using electric arc with reach spell, (should cover the distance), and need a reflex save DC17.
Gibble the goblin |
Gibble pulled out his flute and plays a battle tune (inspire courage 2 actions)
He also takes a big breath and try’s to keep it up for longer and a screeching sound is hured (lingering comp. 1 action and 1 focus point)
(1) +8=9 :( at least I keep my focus point if I fail and the is not critical fail effect
GM Watery Soup |
The bear growls as its hair stands on end. Suddenly, a crackle of electricity jumps from the bear to the ground.
Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
It jumps just in time to avoid about half the shock.
---
Gibble pulls out a flute and begins playing.
Gibble, Inspire Courage is only 1 action, and Lingering Composition is a free action. You have two actions left.
Rhiannon the Radiant |
Rhiannon smiles sadly. Against her bear and with a bard and someone else casting magic weapon she has nothing she can do.
She will delay after the bear has charged and heal the poor sod that was hit.
Fullroundaction heal: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
GM Watery Soup |
Gibble, the range of Ill Omen is 30', and you are too far.
She will delay after the bear has charged and heal the poor sod that was hit.
[Dice=Fullroundaction heal]1d8+8
Rhiannon, a 3-action heal will heal 1d8 to everyone in a 30' radius; a 2-action heal will heal one person within 30' with 1d8+8. Based on the text, I believe you want the 2-action heal, which will leave 1 action.

Jaeli sees the bear charging them, the form of the beast growing against the white backdrop. Her symbol of Desna floats between her glowing hands as she speaks another incantation, and a ray of radiant moonlight (Moonbeam, 2 Actions) shines in the bear's direction.
Moonbeam Spell Attack (+ Inspire Courage): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 1 = 20
Moonbeam Spell Damage (+ Inspire Courage): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
It shines in its eyes, dazzling it for a short moment. "Now's our chance!" Not breaking eye contact with the beast, she quickly extends her hand in Mylow's direction, bestowing Guidance (1 Action) upon him.
Don't forget that +1 from Inspire Courage, gang! :)
GM Watery Soup |
i was reading hero labs and it said I had a +8 but I do remember that most spells don’t have a bonus I was probably thinking of dnd lol
Most cantrips will include your spellcasting ability modifier. Your telekinetic projectile should be 1d6+4, your daze should be 4. I don't know the spell lists well enough to say if there's a general rule for non-cantrips.
---
A moonbeam shines forth from Jaeli's holy symbol, dazzling the bear! Bear must make a DC 5 flat check to attack.
The bear responds by running towards Sejon and Mylow (Stride, Stride) and then snapping at Sejon.

I did not see if Mylow's attack hit from the previous post. Hopefully a 21 does. As Jaeli mentioned, I forgot to add the +1 to the hit & dmg. :)
He attempts to attack (Strike Action x2) the bear with his rapier.
1st Rapier Strike: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
1st Rapier Dmg: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
2nd Rapier Strike: 1d20 + 7 - 5 ⇒ (15) + 7 - 5 = 17
2nd Rapier Dmg: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Mylow will tumble (Move Action) into more of a position to try to provide flanking for Sejon.
Acrobatics: Tumble with Guidance: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 = 26
GM Watery Soup |
Sorry, Mylow - our posts must have crossed. Yes, a 21 hits. 4 damage.
Gibble the goblin |
Gibble plays a weird sounding tune and runes apear and 3 bright blue arcane missiles fly out towards the bear and follows up with the same song and deep breathing as last round
But much better excuteion
2 action magic missile (7) +2=9 and then 1 action inspire courage then lingering comp (14)+8=22
Sejon |
Sejon reals from the impact of the bear's charge and then collects himself and strikes.
strike: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 + 1 = 10
strike: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 + 1 - 5 = 12
But he's too disoriented from the impact to make more than a few weak defensive slashes. He keeps his shield in front of him.
strike,strike,raise shield
Jaeli |
Letting go of her holy symbol, Jaeli extends a finger to send forth a crackling Electric Arc (2 actions, DC 17 basic Reflex) at the bear.
Electric Arc Damage (+ Inspire Courage): 1d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6
Now that her companions have the situation a bit more under control, she tries to remember if anything she knows about bears could be relevant to the situation at hand. (1 action, Recall Knowledge, Nature +7)
Peregrine Sandpipe |
Peregrine focuses on the draconic power flowing through his veins, remembering the lessons his father had taught him. His hand begins to chirp with lightning, his eyes flash blue-white and he reaches out toward the bear, hoping to defend his team!
1 action, Reach Spell; 2 actions, Shocking Grasp
Shocking Grasp: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 = 11
Electricity Damage: 2d12 ⇒ (6, 11) = 17
Probably a miss, but rolled damage just in case.
GM Watery Soup |
Mylow - both of your attacks should have been +1: although Gibble's Lingering Composition failed, Inspire Courage was still active, just for one round. Unfortunately, even with +1 ...
Mylow launches two stabs at the bear, but can't find the mark.
Gibble launches two missiles at the bear, and then sings a magnificent composition that hangs in the air for 3 rounds.
Sejon gets distracted by the beautiful music, and takes his eyes off the target for just long enough to let the bear dodge.
Jaeli sends another spark flying, which the bear Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 manages to partially dodge.
Peregrine also opts for the electricity, but it misses the bear.
The bear is furious! It swipes at 1d2 ⇒ 1 Sejon with a claw. (1)
Claw: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Slashing: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 plus Grab
It Grabs Sejon! (2) Your reactions will not work on yourself, correct?
Then, it throws Sejon 20' backward. (3)
Slashing: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 plus Forced Movement, prone
I'm going to assume Sejon uses Shield Block to mitigate some of the damage. If he Blocks the first hit, it's 5 damage to the shield. If he Blocks the second hit, it's 10 damage to the shield and it's broken. Either way, Sejon takes 18 damage total and is 20' away and prone. It will take him an action to stand up.
If Sejon doesn't use Shield Block, let me know, as multiple things will need to change.

Mylow Metcalf |
Mylow stands one on one with the bear stabbing it in the back (2 Strikes Action) to try to draw it's attention then tumbles (1 Move Action) into a more advantageous position to provide flanking if someone comes up to attack.
1st Rapier Strike: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 1 = 23
1st Rapier Dmg: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11
2nd Rapier Strike: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 5 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 1 - 5 = 15
2nd Rapier Dmg: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8
Acrobatics: Tumble: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
He will use his reaction if attacked to utilize Nimble Dodge which adds +2 to his AC if it helps.
GM Watery Soup |
Mylow, my apologies for forgetting to bring this up the first round, but Tumbling Through provokes an AoO, unlike PFS1. The number of enemies with AoO is greatly reduced, though, admittedly, the bear is one of them. You can revise your third action if you like.
Jaeli |
Jaeli recalls some information about the bear, although most of it the team can already see with their own eyes, such as when the bear throws Sejon right back amongst them.
"Don't understimate it!" is all she has to say on that.
Is Sejon wounded, or did his shield absorb the damage? His header still says 20/20 so I'm unclear on whether Rhiannon and/or I should blast him with another Heal.
Peregrine Sandpipe |
Peregrine sets his feet and again focuses on the electricity coursing through him. His hand sparks and he again shoots a blast of electricity at the bear!
Reach Spell + Shocking Grasp

I thought that if they have an AoO then they have to make a Reflex check and that is what my Tumble DC is against. If Mylow's check is a failure then the bear gets the AoO otherwise the tumble is good. So if the bear's Reflex is greater than 22 then it can attempt an AoO which interrupts Mylow's tumble, right?

What you posted is for PF1. Very few creatures have AoO in PF2, so there's no general way to avoid them. There's a PF2 action called Tumble Through, but it's not to avoid AoO, it's to pass through an enemy square.
GM Watery Soup |
Rhiannon, that was in Round 2. Sejon took 11 damage in Round 2 from the bear's bite; you healed that completely. Sejon took another 18 damage in Round 3 from the bear's claw and throw. You can cast heal again if you'd like, you haven't acted in Round 3 yet.

I have never played PF1 so do not know any of the rules set. What I stated was taken from Tumble sub-group Tumble Through. If that action does not pertain to what I wanted to do then there is no rule set for that action that I can see. Looks like there is no way to move around an opponent without drawing an AoO. I'm thinking that most melee fights, the opponent will have the AoO trait. No problem. Will just move his marker back to the original space and attack again for his final action.
3rd Rapier Strike: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 10 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 - 10 = 6
3rd Rapier Dmg: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10
Jaeli |
Since Rhiannon noted last round that she can't do much besides Heal right now, I'll assume she's taking care of Sejon again. Sadly my only other 1st level spell left is Sleep, which is mostly useless in combat.
"It's a short-faced bear, one of the fiercer varieties," Jaeli answers Sejon while her finger begins to crackle with another Electric Arc (2 actions, DC 17 basic Reflex). Her brow is furrowed with worry, as he as Mylow expose themselves to the mighty beast's fury.
Electric Arc Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Can't think of much to do for a third action this round, alas!
GM Watery Soup |
What I stated was taken from Tumble sub-group Tumble Through.
https://2e.aonprd.com/Actions.aspx?ID=29
Success: You move through their square and take an AoO.
Failure: You don't move through their square but take an AoO anyway.
It's poorly worded, especially for PF1 converts (where you can tumble to avoid an AoO), but it does not say anywhere that you avoid an AoO.
I'm thinking that most melee fights, the opponent will have the AoO trait.
No, not at all. You can flip through the bestiary yourself.
https://2e.aonprd.com/MonsterFilter.aspx
Looking through the list from level -1 to level 3 (179 monsters), I've probably fought or looked at stat blocks for 1/2-2/3 of them, and off the top of my head, the only creatures that have AoO are orcs. I specifically checked the big cats and things like "Goblin Commando" because I thought maybe, but no, they don't.
AoO is rare in PF2.
GM Watery Soup |
I wondered about that. The text specifies if the target is 'one of your allies' they gain +2 AC. I know in many cases PF1 works on the 'you are your own ally' principle but I wasn't sure if that applied here.
You are not your own ally - good catch. You get +2 Honesty Points instead of +2 AC. Sorry.
GM Watery Soup |
Can't think of much to do for a third action this round, alas!
This is a common problem. Two of my characters have picked up Battle Medicine and two have picked up Intimidating Glare to use as a third action. Shield is also a 1-action cantrip that is frequently useful. Electric Arc is a very useful offensive spell because it doesn't suffer from Multiple Attack Penalties - you can fire or reload a crossbow as well.
Mylow Metcalf |
Success: You move through their square and take an AoO.
I did not see where it states an AoO. But looking up AoO it does state a "Move" action triggers the AoO which Tumble would be. No wonder new people have had issues with the PFS2 rules. Pretty much need to learn all the various aspects of them.
AoO is rare in PF2.
Good to know that a character can move around in combat for positioning and flank but except in certain conditions. Still trying to figure out all these different changes to rules in this game. Thanks for the links & clarifications!

Good to know! But oh, wait, silly me, I just realized there IS something I can do with my third action now that it's closer.
Her finger still faintly buzzing with electricity, Jaeli draws her starknife and flings it at the beast in a graceful arc (Strike, 1 action).
Starknife Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 = 23
Starknife Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Well, every bit counts, Jaeli figures.
Also, forgot to apply the Inspire Courage +1 damage bonus to my Electric Arc earlier.

Mylow's third slash goes wide. Sejon got knocked down, but he got up again, and they're never going to keep him down. Jaeli lets an electric arc fly.

Rhiannon channels her inner strength, and heals Sejon with a 2-action Heal spell, then casts Shield on herself.
Healing: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
The bear, having the satisfaction of knocking one of the Raiders prone, turns toward the other (Mylow).
Claw: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Slashing: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 plus Grab
That's a crit, I'm afraid - double damage (26). Mylow is unconscious and Dying 2 (a critical hit that knocks you unconscious brings you straight to Dying 2). His initiative will be moved to just before the bear acts again, so that everyone has a chance to act before Mylow needs to make a save.
Feeling Mylow go limp in its paws, it charges forward (Stride), and snaps at Peregrine (Strike), who has been giving him electroshock therapy!
Jaws, 2nd Attack: 1d20 + 12 - 5 ⇒ (4) + 12 - 5 = 11
