Will Save vs. Doll Slap: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 - 1 = 6
Walf goes to say something back to the creepy toy, but cannot. He clutches at his throat, and his eyes grow wide.
Then he quickly looks down to make sure this Ursula did not just turn him into a mermaid.
| GM Derek |
Walf goes to say something back to the creepy toy, but cannot. He clutches at his throat, and his eyes grow wide.
"Roscoe, look! It took over my body and put me in here with Ayita, too!" says the thing in Walf's aphorite voice. "Don't let it kill me with my own body!"
Then it's voice changes in Ayita's tones, "Don't let it fool you and kill our souls in this hideous body, Roscoe! Help!"

See, the dice are evil.
If it's not metagaming, she'll attempt to aid Nasir... it looks like he has a good shot...
I upped the "-1" for fatigue to "-3"? Since it's a "-6" to str and dex.
rapier assist to Nasir: 1d20 + 4 - 1 - 3 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 1 - 3 = 8
GM Derek -- if the exhaustion takes hold at the end of the round, I believe she succeeds in assisting Nasir?
Walfrenden
|
Walf closes his eyes and concentrates briefly. A haze of crystalline dust rises from his golden skin, forming a cloud. It quickly coalesces into a glinting sphere of runes slowly orbiting him.
As a move action, Walf triggers his crystalline dust, imposing a 20% miss chance against him for 1 round.
Walf grapples the evil doll, pulling it from the crib. This action provokes an attack of opportunity. That attack could conceivably knock Walf unconscious, if it makes the miss chance.
Combat Maneuver Check to Grapple: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Roscoe Elring
|
Roscoe tries to ignore the crazy whispering in his mind, and aims his crossbow carefully. He sends a projectile directly into the creature's center.
light crossbow (whisper penalty): 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 1 = 221d6 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 1 = 9
| GM Derek |
With Roscoe's perfectly aimed shot and Nasir's attack, aided by Ayita and Walf (from previous round), the creature goes limp.
Walf grabs it and lifts it, preparing to -- and the weird skull, punctured by a crossbow bolt, falls from the body. The things slowly falls apart, having lost its animating energy. Soon, Walf is holding nothing but a rotting rabbit costume.
COMBAT OVER!
Walfrenden
|
Walf drops the rag, disgusted.
"What is wrong with this town?" he asks.
"We have to fix this."
Ayita of the Hawk Clan
|
Ayita looks at Walf, unable to muster the energy even to agree. She'd sit down but not in this horrible place!
I need a nap first.
Walfrenden
|
I need a nap first.
Walf nods. "After we finish searching this floor?"
Walf begins searching the room. He takes his time to have time to rest.
Walf takes 20, resulting in a 24.
"Doc, if you can spare any more healing, I could really use it," he says as he casts about the space.
Oh, wait, do we have our voices back? I didn't think about that before typing these posts!
| Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |
A tired Nasir is relieved when the monstrosity crumbles into a pile of bones. He lowers the Earthbreaker to the floor as the sweat pours from his forehead.
"Thank you, Walf for the use of your magic and weapon. Due to my unfamiliarity with it, I was not as effective as I should have been, but at least I was able to land a telling blow at the death."
Nasir sees Walf and Ayita mouthing words but even after the creature has been destroyed, they still seem unable to talk.
Is that affliction permanent? Thank the gods that thing didn't steal my voice. It's hard enough being a foreigner here, but a mute foreigner would be near unbearable.
Nasir observes the savage bite marks almost everyone in the group bears.
"Gregory Hatfield, we could use your assistance with our wounds. You seem to be a very capable healer. Did you train with the healers of Sarenrae? They are the most capable healers I know of."
Gregory C. Hatfield

Soon, Walf is holding nothing but a rotting rabbit costume.
"Yuck!"

Nasir watches Ayita and Walf mouth words, unsure if he hears anything. Slowly, but surely, he hears their voices. But THIS time, he hears them seeping quietly, softly, then more loudly, from their OWN mouths, instead of the vanquished creature.

"After we finish searching this floor?"
Walf begins searching the room. He takes his time to have time to rest.
Walf takes 20, resulting in a 24.
Walf's thorough search finds nothing in this children's room, except the moldering, broken crib.
| GM Derek |
REFRESHER ON THE UPSTAIRS
The heroes stand in Room A12 (aka 1 o'clock).
Two sets of stairs descend to the lower floor of the home. Two doors stand along the north, west, and south walls, while a single door stands partially open along the east wall. (Recall standard Pathfinder maps issue: North is left, East is up, South is right, and West is down.)
On a clock dial, they would be at 1 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 5 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 7 o'clock, 9 o'clock and 11 o'clock.
1 o'clock: The Room of Voices of Children Long Gone
3 o'clock, Room A14: the undead centipede room (Roscoe is still in there)
5 o'clock, Room A17: the map room where Sir Roderic manifested. Walf stands at the doorway.
6 o'clock, Room A16: the sewing room with the (currently) quiescent seamstress haunt. Frantino found nine gold bars hidden there. The door is adjacent to Walf's current position.
7 o'clock: unexplored.
9 o'clock: unexplored.
11 o'clock: unexplored.
| Frantino Kaddren |
Frantino is relieved to see the annoyingly difficult doll collapse in Walf's grasp.
"Hey Doc, don't forget about the healing wand that Audrahni loaned us! Maybe we should start using that if there are any more undead in this gods-forsaken place."
Does anyone else need healing with the wand? Frantino wasn't targeted, this time
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Frantino tries to help search the room, but all he hears are echoes of the creepy doll's voices. We were moving counterclockwise, so the next room is the one at 11 o'clock, once we're all ready to go on!
Ayita of the Hawk Clan
|
Ayita, in addition to looking exhausted, is also down to 6/10, so she'd look fairly injured. When her voice returns she'll ask for healing.
Roscoe Elring
|
Roscoe joins the others. "Sheesh--we'd probably go a long way toward letting Sir Roderic rest if we'd burn this place to the ground when we're done here. This place is creepy!"
I'd propose we try 7 o'clock.
| Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |
Nasim smiles as his wounds magically close up.
"Ahh...Gregory Hatfield I am impressed with your healing ways. I have wondered if you westerners could heal as well as Sarenrae's chosen healers. It appears that you have managed to pick up some of their talent!"
Nasir reacts to Hearing Roscoe's comment.
"Agreed Roscoe. I'm surprised that such a dangerous location has not been destroyed before now. This is clearly a danger to the town.
Let us continue to clear the house before we immolate it. Hopefully, we can be quicker about it so we can destroy this gods forsaken place."
I'm up for the 7 o'clock room
| Frantino Kaddren |
"If you guys want to start with that room, that's fine with me. I don't really care which order we tackle the last three rooms, so long as we thoroughly investigate this place for any more clues before we leave it behind. Treasure left behind doesn't hurt, either. Speaking of which, did anyone ever analyze these items I found after the downstairs storage room tried to drown me?" as he holds up the slippers and piece of wood.
Ayita of the Hawk Clan
|
Ayita is fine with investigating that room too, provided she can get a bit of healing.
Here is her post-getting-healed check for traps at that door; I am not adjusting this for exhaustion in case that somehow resolved -- but please subtract if needed:
perception for traps w/alertness: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 24
minus any remaining exhaustion issues
Walfrenden
|
Walf looks at the slippers and the wood, "I'm afraid I haven't learned the spell to do that quickly, Frantino." Walf looks around the upstairs. "If we want to rest for a few minutes, we could do it, though."
Let's take a short rest. Two of us can use the time to ID the slippers, and the piece of wood if it's magical.
| Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |
"That seems reasonable, Walfrenden. I know that I am pretty fatigued from fighting that creature.
Afterwards, then we will investigate the dooe that Roscoe is interested in."
Once the items are identified, Nasir will wait for Ayita's trap check on the door, and once cleared, will then open the door and enter the room with his shield raised in total defense.
Ayita of the Hawk Clan
|
Ayita decides to try to use the healing wand; she's had a little training on it...
UMD with wand: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
She doesn't roll a "1" so she tries again:
UMD with wand: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
She doesn't roll a "1" so she tries again:
UMD with wand: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Oops, she rolled a "1". She will look to stay out of combat until healed.
| Frantino Kaddren |
Frantino will also try to trick the wand and heal Ayita.
UMD: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
I'm assuming a wand of cure light, we weren't actually told what it is...

Let's take a short rest. Two of us can use the time to ID the slippers, and the piece of wood if it's magical.
Doh! I've been playing too many systems lately. I looked up 5e identification, not Pathfinder, when I wrote that post. I'm afraid Walf doesn't have the spells to do anything about identifying magic (or even detecting it) today.
I seem to recall handling a wand IDs it if the spell is on your class list, but I'm not immediately finding the rule on that. If that is the case, Walf will have a look at the piece of wood.

Post 118, April 25th.
One gift is a wand. "It will heal you, but remember that it's holy energies will also harm Roderic's ghost, if need be."
No one spoke up about taking it at the time, but I assume that Doc is carrying it since he seems to be the only one who can use it without making a UMD check.
| GM Derek |
Room A15: The Lounge
There don't seem to be any traps or other issues with the door at 7 o'clock. Roscoe looks carefully inside and finds a small lounge. The leather of the room’s two large chairs seems mostly intact, but stuffing covers the ground beneath them and has been strewn about. Broken glass glitters on the floor, and a low table lays on its side, the drawers from a small cabinet on the ground beside it. A draft from a broken window stirs the moldy drapes, and a crooked painting of a sailing ship at sea bears a lengthy rip through the canvas.
| Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |
Nasir moves carefully into the room, shield up and sword ready, expecting more undead attacks.
"So far, nothing inside here, but let's be careful when we search this room."
Nasir will stand next to the searchers ready to engage any threats.
