So if I gather power and offset the burn, the infusion will still work? And if that is the case, does that work in all cases? Any time you offset burn of "whatever" ability, the ability will still work? Or is it just for certain kineticist abilities?
I think I'll keep it this time. Mainly because it'll give me DR 2/- for 1 round. It might come in useful in case that dude tears into me again.
But will definitely roll with gather power in the future. 3 NL damage every time is brutal.
So what if something costs 2 Burn? Would that then be 6 NL damage?(I know nothing is 2 Burn at this level, but, just work with me here) :P
Basically what I'm ultimately asking is: Is it "X" nonlethal damage per Burn point?

Nazard |

That’s all correct. The reason folks don’t always gather power is it takes a move action to do it, so if you don’t have the move action available, you can’t. Also remember that you can gather power at the end of your action to offset burn on the action of your next round, but if you get hit during that time, you’ll need a concentration check to not take burn, so it’s risky.

The ruby ring does indeed speak to Rao (metaphorically, at least). Like the other rings, this one has three charges, which can be spent to either:
1) apply extended range infusion with no burn cost
2) treat the damage of your simple fire blast as if you were two levels higher
Fire element doesn’t have a physical blast option, so instead of switching simple blasts, your third option is to spend a charge and if your blast hits and does damage, it also surrounds the target in a cloud of thick smoke that blinds the target for one round. None of you will have any penalty to hit, but it won’t be able to see out of the smoke.
For Batu, if anybody thinks to give him the emerald ring, it works the same, save that the third option is to unleash an acid energy blast instead of rock physical blast.
For Kylan, the diamond ring has the same first two options as the others, and its third option is to spend a charge to double the amount you can lift with basic aetherkinesis for one round. If you haven’t dropped the load after 1 “round”, you’ll have to spend more charges or lose your cargo.
Charges can be spent to use any of the three options, and they can be stacked together in the same blast, if applicable . For example, you could use all three at once to unleash a blast with the damage of a Kineticist six levels higher. The charges return whenever you rest (technically, whenever conditions are right that you would remove burn).

Okay, could I get an explanation on how damage is calculated for my Earth Blast?
I can't figure it out. I thought it was +9(Deadly Aim + Con which is +7), but where is the +2 coming from? Actually, according to Herolabs, it has me at +11 now. What the heck?! I looked but I can't find where it explains my damage output. Odds are extremely high I overlooked it though.
I know I've seen it somewhere before but for crying out loud all of the sudden I can't find the info anywhere. Man that wears me out.

Thank you for letting us know. Unfortunately I'm a little overwhelmed with games for now. Who knows, in the future, if you ever do such an interesting idea again, I'd hop in.

Javell DeLeon |

You know, I find it funny how if it weren't for that armor Batu is wearing, he would've been hit AT LEAST 4 maybe 5 times. But because of it, he's only been hit once.
I hate the minuses he takes because he's not proficient with it but man has it paid off! :)

Javell DeLeon |

Okay, I really don't understand something. There's only two of you left standing - Batu is obviously stunned - and neither of you wish to call for Kylan?
Apologies for coming across as too forward or whatever, but, c'mon, folks, call for help! We obviously need it. And Nazard even mentioned that "somebody might want to call for Kylan"(not verbatim) in a previous post in ooc.
I've tried to figure out why no one has called him but for the life of me I'm stumped. All I can come up with is: no one cares? Again, don't mean to be rude - and apologies again if that is the case - and I'm not saying that's what it is, but, I really don't know where else to go reasoning wise. Totally spitballing.

Nazard |

Does everybody here have discord? A game I play in has a discord channel, mostly as an alternate discussion thread, but we’ve been using it for one really cool thing: announcing when we’ve made a combat post and who is next. In effect, it means you get a notification when it’s your turn to post a combat action, so if you have a couple free minutes, you can pop on and post your next rolls, speeding up combat considerably.

I am enjoying this game and would love to continue. I don't know how far this series goes, but as long as you are having fun and there are chapters to play - I am in.

The story has had fun points so far. I confess I am not sold on the Kineticist class, but I'd continue to see how it goes.

Javell DeLeon |

I would have to second Marioc when it comes to Kineticist. Don't think the Kineticist class is for me really.
And I will confess that this module - or whatever the proper term is - is... um... I don't really know how to put it. I guess it just doesn't interest me. Mainly because of the endless kobolds. I get the point of it being kobolds because that's what these modules are about but it just gets a bit old to me after a while.
Having said all that, I'd still be willing to keep rolling on this one.
It only goes to like 6th or 7th level, right? As long as it doesn't roll much higher than that then I'm good.

Rao Redflame |
*raises hand*
Considering that we are moving into the next book, could we reinvent our characters if we wanted? In my case I'd still be keeping the same concept of "flame that sets people alight", but we are missing a (somewhat) front-liner, and I'm curious about the Kinetic Blade tree...

Javell DeLeon |

That sounds fine. This is just an experiment after all and we had a front liner who left us, so it would be good to have that role (other than just Batu who is just an hp brute).
Lol Yeah that's true. He's got a few to spare for sure. :)
And no changes here. I'm good.

Me'mori |

We can either hand wave that this is how it's always been, or Rao's powers could inexplicably change on him; whichever you prefer.
Depending on the amount of downtime that they have, we can have Rao work on changing them. Immolating people was great and all, but with as many ranged individuals as we have, there's little room for discernment...
Speaking of, has anyone picked up any AoE effects?

Nazard |

You will have some downtime, so here’s the 411 on the gear you picked up at the end. You’ll have the opportunity to get some free identifications back in town. You will also find (this time only) that the merchants of Falcon’s Hollow Will by gear you don’t want for 100% of market value.
The king’s battle axe is a +1 human bane axe, worth 8310 gp.
The king’s crown is a unique item with the following benefit: +2 enhancement bonus to Charisma, +2 natural armour bonus, immune to dragon fear, and the wearer is treated as being a kineticist one level higher for the effects of his abilities. You’re also pretty sure that there’s some connection between the crown and your rings, though what exactly that is will take some research.
The shaman’s dagger is a unique item: heart ripper blade. this +1 dagger is granted baleful powers when used in bloody sacrifice. Whenever used to deliver a coup de grace, the Heartripper Blade pulls the victim’s still- beating heart free from his body. you may then consume the heart to gain any of the following abilities.
you may eat the heart to gain a simultaneous remove disease, restoration, and cure serious wounds effect.
you may utter a command word and cause the heart to burst into flames, after which the Blade becomes a +2 flaming burst dagger for 1 hour. this consumes the heart.
you may speak a blasphemous second command word to cause the heart to boil and smoke. Breathing in the smoke gives you glimpses of the future or far off places and objects, granting you the ability to use divination or scrying. this consumes the heart. The dagger itself is not evil, but using it for any of the sacrifice benefits is. It is worth 11,302 gp
One of the shaman’s toadies had a +1 small rapier worth 2,320 gp. The other toady had Edgrin’s personal rapier, which the halfling reclaimed.
I’m not sure if you kept track of any other gear you came across, but all told you have accumulated 22,000 gp from sold gear, plus you’ll be getting a 5,000 gp reward, for a total of 5,400 gp each to spend on stuff. You’ll have to order anything beyond 2,000 gp, but you’ll have time. Just wanted you to be able to think about buying gear as you update to level 4.

Javell DeLeon |

Sell the shaman's dagger and the battle axe for sure. We ain't using those. I'm guessing that's part of the 22,000?
That Crown is cool though.
And per this: "You’re also pretty sure that there’s some connection between the crown and your rings..."
I'm guessing you're talking about the other three pc's? Maybe Kylan as well? Not real sure on the latter. Because Batu has no ring.

Nazard |

Yes he does. He has a platinum ring with a large emerald connected to the power of the earth, which he got from the original characters (it had belonged to the dwarf who got eaten by a werewolf). The ring has three charges per day which can be used to do one of the following:
Kinetic blast with extended range
Kinetic blast damage as of you were two levels higher
An acid energy blast instead of stone physical blast
You can also spend more than 1 charge to do a mixture of effects.
The only person without a ring is Marioc (sorry, it’s coming I promise).

Me'mori |

I mean... the dagger is damn cool, and Rao isn't especially caring of what happens to enemies... I'm torn between the mechanic boost and the ethical implications— though if fire is the ideal, it is ultimately neutral.
However, how accessible are magical items? PF Standard?
