So glad to hear (not that you’re swamped with work, unless you earn by commission of course), but that it’s only temporary and we haven’t lost you.
Nope, not commission. Not even hourly. Salary. -.-
Skyreave |
Hey folks so this is Vrog Skyreaver/Kali. Sorry about the spam if we were in multiple games together.
Unfortunately, I have some bad news. I currently do not have access to my main account. I have opened a ticket to Paizo, but from the email I got back from them, it's not looking like I'll be able to access my account any time soon.
I would have posted sooner but I didn't even think about making an alt until now.
As it's not fair to everyone to make them wait, I'm going to withdraw from the game. If I get me account fixed and the game is still ongoing, I'll reach back out to see about joining.
Thank you for letting me play with you all, and I hope you all have a great game!
Mathine Hartinken |
Thank you for the game! I'm sad to see it end, but I do agree that it seems like an all-kineticist group has a little bit harder time than I'd have anticipated. I have no doubt it can be done, but there has a lot that wound up falling by the wayside.
Me'mori |
I am still up to keep going.
In regards to my play, I built Rao by an idea that I had in my head, and he is overly aimed towards social encounters. I also think I misread the infusion and gave him a wild talent by mistake, but it served.
I absolutely LOVE the "All X party", having done the same for Paladins some years back. I had a grand idea for unifying story threads and time took its toll. I love poking at the system like that, though.
I also love to be able to play through things and experience them rather than running them. :3
I am in for more— if alterations need to be made, I'm game since I like exploring ideas– if you are.

It seems that everybody except Kali has posted a wish to continue. I’ll give Kali a bit longer to say yea or nay.
If we do continue, I’ll lower my posting expectations a bit going forwards. Plus, I’m about to go from “What month is this?” to “So busy I can’t breathe” as I get thrust back into teaching school for the first time since March.
Nazard |
If we're going to continue, then you should all level up to level 2. Please stay single-classed, so as to continue the experiment. Roll for hp, then take average if you roll poorly.
Does anybody know anybody reliable who is looking for another game to play in and would like to try a water kineticist?

Leveled up, took Kinetic Cover. Also love the Emerald Ring! The biggest issue with an earth Kineticist is hitting, and this ring gives options on having a touch attack.
Mathine Hartinken |
Finished leveling (although I will officially redo it in Hero Lab a little later to make sure I didn't miscalculate, as I'm a little rushed right now). I did take Kinetic Healer, as well as putting a point in Use Magic Device. (For a whopping +2, but it's a chance.)
Mathine Hartinken |
Got my leveling done - didn't have the original Hero Lab file at hand, so I had to recreate it. I still couldn't re-find the Sword Specialization trait I had before, so I traded it out for Armor Expert, and somehow my skill numbers were weird in ways I couldn't recreate, so I adjusted slightly. None of what's different should change anything that came before significantly.
Nazard |
So we got a bite on the recruitment page. I see two options going forwards:
A) Kali inexplicably decides that adventuring with you isn’t for her and so leaves and a replacement water kineticist just happens to be there ready to join up
B) Kali has actually been our new hydrokineticist all along.
Option A stretches credibility, while Option B does take away sone of what Kali’s player added to the game.
Preferences?

A dispatch from Vanja recalls Kali, but they've sent someone (through connections) to fill in, since they were aware that an effort was being undertaken?
That could work if our new player is interested in playing another student of the illustrious Vanja, but I hate to shoehorn a new player too much.
Me'mori |
I was thinking that whatever their motives, it does not have to be through Vanja, as a favor of a favor of a favor can travel pretty wide... *checks recruitment* They've got no fluff up yet, but it could be read as even a slight nudge or recommendation from someone could have been—
*looks up Vanja*
(was just checking to make sure they weren't an established name that I was overlooking.)
– a bit of a game of "telephone" that brought/put them in position to link up with us.
Of course, all this presumes I am not overstepping as a player. *sheepishly shuffles back a bit, giving deferential bows*
Nazard |
There’s also a bit of behind-the-scenes stuff you don’t know about yet that means it’s wasn’t just a happy accident that five kineticist just happens to be in Falcon’s Hollow at this time. Somebody or something manipulated things to get you all there.
However, that kind of stuff can be handwaved away. It just becomes easier if we say that Kali was actually —INSERT NAME — all along.
Me'mori |
"You thought it was them, but it was I, DIO all along!!"
Fair enough.

Not counting how many potions got consumed, Rao would not be inclined to take the ruby. The Masterwork Light Crossbow, maybe...
Who's claiming what?
Bolkvar Stonebeam |
Getting the loot sheet together is hard work. Thank you to our GM for traawling through it, and Mem for further organizing it.
I claim the masterwork stonemason tools and for fluff purposes would hold onto the Torag hymn book until it can be sold to a dwarf (it'll still be in the loot sheet, but Bolkvar would IC want to make sure that it goes to use).

Also...I love the kineticist rings! Just had to say that again. :D
Nazard |
My local education authorities have elected to send us all back to school full time starting tomorrow, so the next few days will be crazy for me with a lot of travel and stuff. We have our fifth player now, so if everybody could go through the loot and take what they want, I’ll tally up the amount of gold you all get and you can do some shopping before the next phase of the adventure starts.

Thanks for the welcome, all.
I have never played a kineticist and have some trouble understanding what the class is about. Hopefully, I'll do fine. I welcome advice.
Bolkvar Stonebeam |
It’s a...complicated class. It starts off really weak (1d6+2 damage kind of weak). And it always stays at 2/3 BaB with 1 attack. But the damage skyrockets around lvl7 or so. But how much damage you do often depends on taking burn (nonlethal damage). So you trade health for damage.
They also gain powers depending on the element. Including healing, but the powers also often need burn. So, for example, you can have unlimited healing...which causes Nonlethal damage. Either to yourself or the person healed.
Marioc of the Sea |
Doesn't the Gather Power thing help with that?
Also, what happens at level 7?
Also, is the contribution to the party only damage? Are there no buffs, crowd control or out of combat utility (beyond skills, I mean)?
Bolkvar Stonebeam |
Well, lvl5 I suppose. Infusion specialization with empower means that you do 1.5 damage.
Lvl 7 you get expanded element. Which often means that you aren’t useless against enemies immune to your first element. And you get a much stronger blast.
Lvl 9 you get maximize, which means that you do max damage instead of rolling.
So I suppose lvl5 is when kineticists start to take off.
Bolkvar Stonebeam |
Eh...not so sure. Kinetic blade with weapon finesse is all that is needed for close range. Or a 5ft step back. I don’t think it is worth losing ranged for that unless there is a specific character in mind.
Mathine Hartinken |
Utility contribution to the party depends heavily on element and talent selection. Some elements are almost all utility, some are less so. Think of the kineticist as a more restricted blaster sorcerer, basically - you'll definitely do damage, but what else you do is up to you.
Marioc of the Sea |
@Mathine: Thanks. So my choice of wild talent (Slick, which gives me the Grease spell) is in that direction, I suppose.
Me'mori |

No Precise shot yet, so the second melee happens, I run the risk of immolating an ally— as a negative, at least. No worries, I was just checking.
In regards to fluff, I can definitely switch the focus from "Moths to a flame" to "Aflame with a touch". I was just checking to make sure we weren't too heavy in regards to ranged, since right now in a fight, I'm really only just saying "Burn.".
Nazard |
Hi all. I’m completely wiped from this week. I promise that I will get things going again soon. Would somebody be able to look up all the prices for the unclaimed gear in Memori’s list and total it all up? The two miscellaneous non-magical rings have an RP purpose, and so will be worth something different depending on what you do with them.
The ruby has a value of 200 gp, but would be much more valuable activated in that altar, so probably best to not sell it.
