Yeah, without Marianna, Nylthe is the group's muscle.
After a couple test pushes, Nylthe gives the post a good push on the bottom and the entire post falls out of position, giving access to the door. Pushing the door open, the party finds a small passageway leading to a cell of a room, with a 3 foot opening in the wall, carved to look like the inside of a mouth. Carved on the wall to the west is more of the writings from the stele. And the passage continues to the east, or it would if that passage wasn't filled with rubble. Anything larger then a rat won't fit though there.
The two inscriptions read:
"May the lightning raze the lands of my enemies, while the tempest churns his ships to flotsam."
and
" May the storm spare us in our humility."

Okay, I don't think my description was accurate enough. Crawling through the hole would be the equivalent of coming out of a mouth. That said...
Before getting far at all into the hole, you can see that looks into another room. This massive room’s most striking feature is its thirty-foot-high vaulted ceiling, decorated with faded frescoes of storm clouds. Motes of flickering light occasionally flash into being within the painted thunderheads, giving the imperfect impression of watching a distant storm.
Centered on the south wall of the room side is a face, resembling an ancient, bearded man. From between his defiantly clenched teeth issues a trickle of murky fluid, which runs down the knotted coils of his beard to pool onto the stone floor, which has been cut to resemble a fanciful variety of coastlines and islands, each raised an inch above the rest of the stone surface.
The fluid pouring onto the floor fills the low-lying areas between these “islands,” which function as eccentrically positioned steppingstones across the center of the room. The water and islands create another illusion—that of looking out across a great reflective seascape from the peak of an incredibly high mountain.
The grandeur of the room is somewhat undone by the two makeshift worktables positioned in its center, surrounded by benches and stools. The worktables are littered with a variety of small objects, statues, bits of pottery, and assorted relics. Around these tables, you can see about a half-dozen older kids, dressed in the Twincandles colors working to clean the objects with brushes and such.(currently not on map) On the east side of the room, a split staircase leads to a wide platform ten feet above the floor, where a similarly cluttered worktable stands. Watching from the platform are a pair of figures that seem much more armed for battle, wearing a chain shirt and holding onto a crossbow. Sturdy wooden doors are set into the east and west walls.

Aconite describes the room to her, letting Nylthe see through his eyes for a brief moment before she turns to her allies.
"I say we send through Aconite first, then Declan if he wishes. They can harry our foes while the rest of us travel through here."
And unless anyone objects, I'll do just that :-)

Wilen looks at the small opening and shrugs. It's the best idea we have!

I will note that this side room is off of a flight of stairs that you all didn't completely descend. Declan can see the beginning of another room, but you all were focused on this, so I held off describing that.
Declan Darksky
|
I don't think Declan could fit. It's choked with rubble. We may need to go down the rest of the stairs. But, if he can fit, Declan will go through.
Nylthe Shadowbound
|
Oh, if we can't get through by squeezing, then Aconite will just spy on them from the hole until we get the door open.
Juis Helfro
|
Lets do that. Have aconite spy on them while we continue down the stairs.

Declan checks out the door at the bottom of the stairs before trying to open it.

At the bottom of the stairs is a long thin room, the walls lined with crypts. Apparently, this room is sturdier then the previous rooms, since there are no supports in here, and the room itself is drier. Each crypt has a well worn name carved into it, and when looked over, the lids are actually carved from the wall itself.
Checking the door, you find it both unlocked and untrapped.
As the others move to the door, you watch as one of the workmasters comes down from her perch, and begins to give a cursory look over the tables.

Centered on the north wall of the chamber is a massive sculpture of a wrathful feminine face, mouth open in a silent roar. The sculpted curls of her wild hair seamlessly merge with the painted storm clouds above, creating the impression that the howling face emerges from a storm-filled sky.
On the room’s south side is a similarly positioned face, resembling an ancient, bearded man. As Declan darts up the stairs, The other workmaster takes a shot at Declan with his crossbow, but shoots wide. The watery beast, on the other hand, dives over the table and vanishes into the water for a second, only to burst out near Aconite, smacking into him with a surf sounding roar. As the beast rears back to continue his assault, several gauzy lightning bolts strike from the ceiling onto the 'islands' on the map (X's on the map.)
