Sounds like the fox has the last pieces we need to trap him. We should go after him next.

![]() |

"Yup! Let's head off after the fox! I bet he's got the last pieces we need."

![]() |

Kiyoko nods gravely. "Mmn. We should hurry, if this fox is disguising himself as Virml."
The Minkaian samurai starts wading out of the room and making for the lobby.

![]() |

Virml wades through the water with the group not wanting to be left behind in case there were more fey. As the climb the stairs he sees the Owl and the Albatross then shrieks.
"More of them!"
The two fey turn to the newcomer and cock their heads.
"Them! That sounds offensive and what are you doing down there...I swear we saw you leave earlier!" the Owl hoots.
"Yeah...more like more of YOU!" the Albatross laughs nudging the Owl.
The pair go back to fishing as the group pulls Virml along to the lobby.
---
Inside the Master of Scrolls is still working and grumbling. His dour attitude turns for the worse seeing a Virml with the water-logged Pathfinders.
"First you all drag that water into the lobby and the rascal Virmly isn't upstairs like he should be copying documents. When did you sneak out and have you solved the problem yet?!" he says lecturing the real Virml.
The group sees the stairs up to the Scriptorium off to the side. The stairs are single-file and the door at the top is closed. Slide 2.

![]() |

"Master Kreighton, do you remember the series of scrolls you had me copy three times before I understood that you were having me copy for the knowledge rather than the practice? Do you recall the topic?"

![]() |

Fuzzzy grins. "My, how cryptic!"

![]() |

Lady Naysha moves to the exit, blocks it with her body, then turns and waves at Master Shaine while she waits for him to answer Eranahu -- just in case!

![]() |

Ruslo watches Master Shaine carefully, judging his answer.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

![]() |

"What in the world are you talking about...you were to head into the archives and stop that deluge of water. Hopefully permanently ending the source before everything is ruined. There is plenty to be copied upstairs since it seems Virml hasn't been doing it if that is more to your liking." Kreighton Shaine says stating to turn red turning to Virml.
"What are you doing still standing here instead of copying the scrolls!" he yells at Virml who shuffles in place nervously.
"It is a long story, sir, I have been stuck downstairs in the Archive for quite some time now, sir, they saved me!" he answers back.
Shaine calms down for a moment as he thinks deeply. Pouring over thoughts and scenarios in his head he slumps down into the chair with his arms on the table.
"A shapechanger? Virml look at this mess...unless it snuck out through magical means it should be upstairs still. Stop staring at me...I am not a shapechanger. At least you are being prudent." he sighs with nearly unlimited exasperation as he begins to cast a spell on himself. His eyes glow a blue as he looks over the group.
The spell was True Seeing.
"None of you are cloaked in illusions either. That is indeed the real and still in trouble Virml."
Ruslo can't tell one way or the other if he is deceiving the group.

![]() |

Not gonna lie, I wracked my brain over that for awhile. It sounded so familiar and exactly like something he would do. I was searching back through posts for a bit.

![]() |

lol, I totally made it up. I should have prefaced it as such.
"That's good to know. So, remind me of the layout for the room above again. How many people should we find up there with fake Virm, at the moment?"

![]() |

Sure would be nice if someone with Spellcraft would roll and beat that DC21...
Kiyoko studies Shaine in silence as the rest of the party makes up their minds about the next move.

![]() |

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Its true seeing.
"I should go that way? Alright then! Thank you stranger." Fuzzzy adjusts his hat and heads upstairs to find this fake Virml person he's apparently looking for.

![]() |

"After we entered the library, did the other Virml say anything that you remember? Or do anything strange?"
After hearing Kreighton's answer, Ruslo hurries off with Fuzzzy for the upstairs door.

![]() |

"Oh, wait for me! I'll come too."
Lady Naysha follows them upstairs.

![]() |

Kiyoko sighs, wondering why the old man is leading the way, and follows after the others upstairs.

![]() |

"No, he very quickly rushed off upstairs and was quiet;y working or so I assumed." Shaine answers as the group files up the stairs.
As Fuzzzy reached the top and opens the door he hears a bookshelf collapsing and the sound of pots clattering down.
Pots: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Fuzzzy is certainly going to have a bruise and some quality prestidigitation time to get out the rainbow of inks now covering him completely. -10 to Stealth.

As the trap is sprung most of the group is ready to rush up the stairs to find what the commotion is but Fuzzzy and Lady Naysha are still a bit surprised by the colorful trap.
What Fuzzzy does notice is the snarling of a large crocodile and another Kreighton Shaine looking through tomes behind the far desk.
"Today cannot get any worse...you are all knocking over things and thanks to Virml one of those soggy tomes just spit out that large crocodile. Handle it Pathfinders!" he says alarmed.
---
Those entering the room see a large chamber crammed with desks and lecterns designed for copying scrolls and manuscripts. Along the north wall, a tall, broad shelf sags with sheaves of parchment, while near the exit to the south, a stack of ceramic ink jugs stands near wall-mounted racks of quills. Two bays of windows on the west wall offer an impressive view of the Lodge’s greatest landmark, Skyreach Tower, while the eastern windows overlook the library’s main stacks.

Kiyoko advances into the room, freeing Reitenseiya of its saya to slash at the giant crocodile.

Ruslo enters the room, eyebrows raised at the other Shaine, and swings his grappling hook at the crocodile. "Whoa-ho! Look at that croc!" He swings his hook at the crocodile from range.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

![]() |

The thick scales of the oversized lizard deflect the blade of Kiyoko and the arrow of Eranahu however the barbed hooks of Ruslo's hook dig into the hide.
Eranahu also notices two scroll fragments that look similar to the rest they have. One is in the belt of Kreighon Shaine and the other lies atop a stack of books behind the crocodile.
Old Wilmar and his companion delay at the bottom to move up with the rest of the group.
---
Kreighton Shaine flees up the wall before firing an arrow from his bow.
Arrow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
It clatters against the wall between the crocodile and Kiyoko.
"Oh ho. My apologies...I work with books not weapons typically." he apologizes from afar.

Seeing everyone trying to fight a large lizard, Fuzzzy takes a step forward and grins. "Oh! Are we hunting?" He notices the sword on his hip and draws it. "Yes, I know just what to do with this!"
Fuzzzy throws his longsword at the crocodile!

The sword spins through the air, zips around the Pathfinders, and stabs the crocodile. Then it wiggles backwards a bit, spins around, and flies right back into Fuzzzy's hand.
"Ha! I must be a wonderful hunter!"

As Old Man Wilmar and his companion clamber up the stairwell as the new Kreighton Shaine bursts into laughter.

At the same time Fuzzzy releases his sword with surprisingly natural grace as it digs deep under the crocodiles leathery skin and barely misses a vital organ.

Kiyoko slips out of the crocodile's jaws, blood running down her leg. She shifts to a two-handed grip on her ancestral katana in retaliation, bringing it down on the crocodile in a heavy overhead slash.

![]() |

Ruslo grins. "You'll make a fine belt!" he tells the croc, looking forward to the prospect of adding another croc to his trophy collection. He rather liked his crocodile boots. He flicks his wrist, yanking the grappling hook back into his hands, then spins and sends it flying back at the crocodile.

The crocodile thrashes out of the way of the katana but adjusting his aim Eranahu sends an arrow into the soft flesh underneath the beasts arm. As it recoils in pain Ruslo makes good on his desire to turn the monster into a belt as his spin propels the hook violently into the open jaw of the crocodile...it bites down in reaction and with a look of shock goes quiet.

Lady Naysha moves over to the scroll piece and picks it up. Then she points at the one on Shaine.

The color spray could go over her head so I will allow that but the range would fall short so we will go with the attack.
Taking the scroll would be a Steal maneuver.
The group begins to converge on the laughing trickster as he tries to regain his composure.
Fuzzzy throws his sword once again but this time it bounces off the wall before returning to him but Bobby soars through the air plucking the last scroll piece from the belt with ease.
"Haa ahhh....I...can't...ohh ahhh hhaaaa...do anything...like...ahahaha...this." he tries to reply to Ruslo as a look of desperation breaks through the forced smile of laughter.
