Anselm Basri |

Anselm lets Dagio slump to the ground. "My help is yours Muri, always. Pray, though, do not mock me for my efforts when you disagree with them. I know you to be a nobler soul than that."
He looks back to the entourage. "It's a good suggestion, though. My friends," he says to the trailing nobles. "I would be grateful for your help carrying this creature, as well as retrieving the unusual book creatures from the library."

Muri Daybreaker |

"Oh, I'm not disagreeing with you. It's amusing. If something attacks us, and we defend ourselves, you're more likely to heal it and bring it along than not. Our situation is crazy, don't you think?" Muri doesn't try and argue about nobility, figuring they'll have better times for such conversations.

Anselm Basri |

"On that we can agree!" Anselm looks at the rat, considering. "Actually, he may be the perfect case for our new pet books. I’m sure his story would make for an interesting read."

Time is somewhat fluid, but Anslem has not left the group to go talk to the streaming nobles as yet. Major Kort and others are pursuing forward momentum which get in the way of his plans as he chatters in the back with Muri.
Major Kort, finding no traps, picks the lock for a change and the door swings open to reveal - another door just a foot or so away! That door too, suddenly, swings open and the Major sees his counterpart, a stout halfling with their own thieves tools, looking just as surprised. Major Kort can’t help but notice his oppositions tools are nicer than his, masterwork for sure. His counterpart calls out, ”They’re here!” as he straightens up and draws his shortsword, a grim look on his face. You see another halfling behind him also drawing a shortsword.
From the back of the party you hear, ”I know that voice…” and Imistos the halfling servant draws his rapier at last.

"If you know the voice, Imistos, and the voice means us harm, then do you mean us harm?" Muri moves back down the hall, bidding Underfoot to follow him. He quickly changes direction, allowing the sheepdog to take a position in front of Anselm, likely to protect the man, should Imistos prove to be enemy.
Muri can't bring himself to stab the other halfling, but he has no reservations about discouraging Imistos with a touch of misfortune.

Anselm drops (?) the rat roughly (hopefully doing no more damage) and immediately pivots sending an elemental to attack your own halfling, no not that one - Imistos! The elemental lands a blow with a satisfying crunch as the poor man’s shoulder is almost certainly broken. Mama D fires a sleep into the next chamber, hoping to drop at least one of them out of the fight! Elen quite reasonably not wanting to murder everyone tries to calm things down and sort out the issue, but in the rear Imistos fights for his life, and in the front? Thugs. Muri piles on with Anslem and misfortunes the other halfling as he shuffles positioning. Kamari moves up and tries to stab the halfling though he’s unsuccessful.

By the gods!” He fights back against the elemental, trying to save his own life even as he frowns at Muri piling on with powers of his own to further weaken the poor man.

The train of nobles becomes uneasy at this latest attack, seemingly on them by the party (they don’t know what’s going on in front). Dame Trant nods knowingly, unsurprised by the seemingly sudden change. She draws her blade and moves up to confront the elemental as well (double move).
Out of sheer panic, the other nobles draw an assortment of daggers, most of which have never seen action aside from the occasional letter - but they’re ready to defend their lives! Jowuan Zubari (the priest) cries out, ”Why all the bloodshed?” as he recasts light and draws a slightly rusty morningstar.

He fails with Dame Trant (not enough time) but succeeds in brow-beating the nobles into some form of submission. Kamari tumbles through successfully, and tries to take her revenge on blue, though she just misses, perhaps due to her weakened condition.

Major Kort finally nails the remaining halfling. Mama D’s fingers lightly brush the halfling, but it’s enough for the electricity to arc into the poor man - dropping him to the floor as his body shudders from the jolt. He's not dead, but he is bleeding out.
The nobles stand around uneasily, waiting to see what happens next. Lord Wilfen Botoles begins quietly to cry a little, though he tries to put a brave face on it.
The poison is done and combat is over as the halls, once ringing with multiple battles, quiets.
Major Kort - 5
Anselm - 26
Mamma D - 20 (-4hp)
Elen - 18 (-4hp)

Blue halfling - 6 (-21hp, bleeding)
Imistos - 5 (-13hp, -25hp NL, -1 init, saves, attacks, unconscious)
Nobles - 4

Kamari |

Kamari rushes to the bleeding halting and then the sleeping halfling looking for cures for the poison.
"They must have something for the poison on them in case of accidents."
She empties their pockets and strips them down if necessary.
search perception if necessary: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

Muri Daybreaker |

Muri scurries through the second room, where lie unconscious halflings, and he briefly thinks there but for the grace of Shelyn go I. He spots the injuries spread out among the women, no injuries on the Major, and he frowns.
As Kamari searches one of the halflings, talking about poison, Muri keeps moving forward, through the doors ahead, and the smaller room to the north. When he sets eyes on the further reaches of the underground, he barks back to the others in report.
Underfoot does take a moment to sniff at Kamari's side, before catching up effortlessly with the upright halfling.

Mallë-o i Otos Elen |

Elen tries to stabilize the most immediate injured halfling while helping Kamari search for an antidote.

Anselm Basri |

Anselm moves to Imistos' side and checks to make sure he's alive.
Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Uncertain, he calls upon Shelyn to stabilize him before turning to the nobles.
"We had an altercation earlier this evening, as Dame Trant here was busy roughing up a senator. All of our passions were aroused in advance of the oath, and even more so after the massacre. But you have my word: There shall be no harm to you by my hand. This fellow here, though, posed a danger to us all. He will live to breath another day. If I was mistaken about his allegiance with the people waiting ahead to attack us, I shall submit myself to the courts."
With that, he picks up the sword Dame Trant threw down. Lifting it, he presents it to her pommel first. "I pray you will forgive me for our fight earlier this evening. Please keep this for your protection."

Major K'Aldrian Kort 1ATD, Ret. |

"Oh!! Could someone who knows how to do this come in here and do this!"
"I can try to help," Kort moves over to assist Elen, respecting her efforts to save Kamari who took a blade for him. "Let me have a look. This was never my strength..."
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 Heal
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Heal
K'Aldrian then focuses on the immediate disarming of the halfling goons, ensuring that they have no weapons, loot, or poisons upon them. If he had rope, he might have tied them up, but no, that's not formal wear fit for a Senate gala.
Detect Magic and search.

I am, as a rule, happy to see a die roll to support role play. In most cases I use it merely as color - an indication of your character’s skill and luck with the words you speak. So while it may not have a specific game effect, please feel free to roll. Within reason and if you wish. :)
Kamari, just for clarity, you are free of the ongoing poison (you made your save) though its effects do linger…
You search the two downed halflings, and find little of value. Their shortswords are masterwork (310gp ea) (one has medium spider venom on it - anyone who touches it gets to deal with the poison rolls) but of course there is a lovely set of masterwork thieves’ tools (100gp).
Imistos is a little wealthier with a portion of neutralize poison (750gp), two doses of medium spider venom (150gp ea), another set of masterwork thieves’ tools (100gp), a fine silk handkerchief (5gp), and a silver religious symbol* (25gp).
Together the three of them are also carrying 35gp in loose change.

Finally, you also find a letter (image) on the sleeping halfling which reads…
”Team Two,”
”Keep watch over Martella’s stooges while we dispatch her Ladyship. They seem useless, but our contract specifies eliminating Lotheed AND anyone she is working with. If they’re particularly noteworthy - say a senator or noble - keep them alive and we’ll interrogate them along with Lotheed. Have Imistos bring any such targets to the Dignified Repository.”
”- The Fantabulous Killer of the Brotherhood of Silence”
Muri, the last halfling standing, checks ahead a bit and finds some stairs, down, but just a few and then a hallway (and the edge of this map). He returns to the party in safety having found no one else.
Elen tries to stave death from the halfling she fought, though she’s clearly having trouble, so she gives up for others to try and helps Kamari instead. Major Kort does what he can as well, but the poor halfling dies under their ministrations, so he too helps Karami search.
Anselm does his best to again befriend the nobles, but the rift is large, and the fear still real. They pick up their weapons, even Dame Trant, but it’s clear they carry them uneasily, knowing they’re in your power - and, for now, unsure what that might mean. Anselm talks a good talk, but when he had a flicker of doubt he lashed out decisively, and violently, and that gives the nobles some pause (except perhaps Dame Trant, but she has other issues).

Anselm Basri |

Religion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Anselm confers with his comrades. "I'm afraid I frightened the nobles. I can see here, though, that my concern was well placed. He was a follower of Thamir Gixx, the halfling god of assassins. And he was carrying poison."
Looking at the letter, he nods. "Perhaps someone else could share this news with our entourage. They have not responded to my reassurances."

Kamari |

"Tools!'
Kamari's mood lifts at finally finding something useful. She holds onto one pair and offers the other to the Major. "They appear nicer than the ones you have."
She passes around the potions to those with more knowledge only to be disappointed to find out there's nothing there for her.
"I feel like I've been lugging furniture all day to help someone move. I just feel drained. Even my rapier feels heavy in my hands. Can anyone assist?" Kamari looks about hopefully.
She looks over the note and at this point I play the 80-hour weeks card and depend on Kamari's actual intelligence. WTF is going on?
"Who is team one?" She does muse aloud though.
Kamari considers Anselm's request, but believes the optics of someone older and with more situational awareness might be better for approaching the nobles.

Mallë-o i Otos Elen |

Elen checks back with the halfling (Blue) after the search for an antidote only to find him dead. She spends a moment of quiet over him, studying the other things that stand out about him. I'm going to have to atone for this."
She passes around the potions to those with more knowledge only to be disappointed to find out there's nothing there for her."Who is team one?"
Helping her to her feet, Elen hands Kamari a fine silk handkerchief.
"Good question, Kamari," Elen says, glancing at Imistos, Trant and Jowuan Zubari. "Dignified Repository? We need to find out who wrote this and make sure they live up to their name -- 'Killer of Silence'."

Major K'Aldrian Kort 1ATD, Ret. |

K'Aldrian looks at Imistos, then at Anselm. The note from the 'The Fantabulous Killer of the Brotherhood of Silence' hangs in Kort's hand.
"But how you know again? How did you know?!" Kort seems amazed that Anselm just *knew*. He shrugs. "Just explain it to me one more time." He shakes his head and pockets Imistos' fancy thieves tools from Kamari.
Kort examines the poison, and pockets it for study.
"Yeah...so you just attacked him, huh? He seemed so useless...huh..." K'Aldrian shakes his head. "And with the halfling god of assassins too. That's just strange."
"Who is team one?" She does muse aloud though.
Kort shrugs again.
"Maybe team one was the group that originally attacked the party. I dunno. Hard to say, but not sure we know."
"M'Della? Do you have any ideas? Have you pieced together anything?" Kort asks Mama D.

Anselm produces more evidence of Imistos’ guilt with the unholy symbol… and then the letter is found. Clearly, Imistos, wearing a senate badge, was whisked away to safety - splitting him from his team - Team Two. He laid low and bided his time but he drew his blade too soon, which may have doomed him. Though certainly carrying poison is not, itself, an evil act. After all you carry some now (unless you’re disposing of it here).
You know nothing about Team One other than conjecturing its existence.
As halflings go, the dead one is much like any other. He is somewhat hairier then most perhaps, and there is a mean sneer, that not even the mask of death can hide.
Trant remains silent when Elen approaches, but Jowuan tries to be helpful. He reads the note, but doesn’t make any connection and shrugs unhelpfully in the end. The other nobles also look clueless.

Muri Daybreaker |

Muri returns to report that the way forward is clear. Given the attention being paid to the downed halflings, Muri also retrieves the Rapier of Imistos, and brings it to Kamari. "When you're better, a better weapon."
The halfling takes his time reading over the missive. "'Fantabulous'. That's a strange word, but we've heard it before. The clown that Elen irritated. They were roaming the Senate floor with us."
Muri brings Underfoot to smell each of the halflings, just in case.
"So, we wait for them to wake up, and we ask them questions? Seems reasonable, before we push on, I think."

Anselm Basri |

"I could not have known for certain, but his earlier reluctance and sudden bravery made me concerned for the safety of Dame Trant and the others here. I... It seemed best to summon help that could incapacitate — not kill — him."
Anselm considers Muri and the Major's words. He droops a little. It has been a very long day.
"Perhaps the book creatures we met earlier could slake their thirst with Dagio and these assassins, without undue harm. That may be answer enough for our questions."
