Howdy, and welcome to the game! I’m excited to get back into running PbPs for you all. My GMing style is very much player-driven (you’re gonna get a lot of “so, what do you do” from me) and focuses on character agency.
I’m still working on handling secret rolls, particularly in combat. I think my solution is to just let y’all roll your own in-combat rolls, but I’ll ask that you put them in a spoiler. I’m going to roll out-of-combat secret rolls as appropriate, so make sure your full character sheet is in the alias description with any situational modifiers!
I’ve set up a Google slides document for this game here. Go ahead and load in a token and fill out the sign-in sheet on slide number two. We’ll start playing once everyone’s checked in people have until Monday to check in or be replaced by an alternate. Feel free to say hi here :) I know that at least one player is playing a pregen, so feel free to suggest any party roles you all may be missing.

GM Slothsy |

Oh! I forgot to add this - if you've played this before, please read the following spoiler.

![]() |

Looking forward to it, thanks GM!
Nina is a 1st level character so I'm still exploring her party role. She ended up doing a lot of diplomacy and healing in her first adventure.
She is ... not physically durable. I picked up Reach Spell to give her an option to stay far away from combat, but it hasn't turned out to be super useful so she's stayed dangerously close to the front so far.

![]() |

Yarr, Pirate Rob here. I'll have my alias fill out by late tonight. Dr. Ripfang is a Goblin Alchemist 1

![]() |

Alright, that should be everything set up. Thank you so much for GMing sna for inviting me along.
As a note I've got a slightly more complicated downtime than average(yay crafting). I'm happy to either resolve it now or wait until the end, whichever you prefer.
Agreed on the secret rolls, there doesn't seem to be a perfect way to handle them in pbp and your notes are mostly what I've settled on as well so far.

![]() |

I'm intentionally not expressing an opinion on how to do secret rolls. I would be happy to do it any way, and if it works well, I'll take it to Sector 001 and assimilate it into my own games.

GM Slothsy |

Pirate Rob, let's handle it at end-of-game! And I'm happy to play with you again. It's been a minute.
That sounds good on the secret rolls. We can also adjust mid-game if it's not working.

Greetings all!
I have to update my character sheet w. some GM Credit I think - will check - but it will have no impact on anything (just some XP, Gold etc., but not levelling up nor buying anything)
re. party role: Lilic is not great at parties, he remains by the punch bowl and does not talk much...
re. adventuring party roles: Lilic can help w. Skills (all trained or more) ; can help w. Healing (Battle Medicine for in combat ; and can Treat Rounds every 10 minutes vs. 1 hour) ; can help w. traps ; finally he can be a backup contributor in fights...

GM Slothsy |

I dunno, does Lilic pet the puppies? That's a very important party role ;)

![]() |

Puppies are nice.
Lilic likes animals.

Hey! I don't know if y'all saw, but there's a big blog up from Tonya that sanctions the Lost Omens line. If you wanted to do a lvl 1 rebuild to use any of that content, now's the time to do it!

![]() |

Anyone else find it funny that 11 people rushed to sign up in the first 3 hours of recruitment, and after the game officially opened 30+ hours ago only 3 of us have checked in?

GM Slothsy |

To be fair, two of the people are personal friends. Chulyin responded in the recruitment thread but hasn't checked in yet, so I'm not sure what's going on.
From my previous PbP days, I'm very aware of the tendency for a lot of people to sign up but then not show up! That's why I close recruitment when I have enough people to choose from rather than keep having people trickle in. Having a bit of a break between the recruitment announcement and game start is probably also contributing to it.

Pirate Rob |

One of those little mysteries of the universe. Some people don't want to post to discussion until they've gotten all their ducks in a row with their character. Paizo doesn't really have a good way of communicating with people that they've been accepted, you just have to keep checking the recruitment etc.
GM also noted that people have until Monday so doesn't seem like any rush to get situated.

Excited to finally be playing with y'all! My OOC name is Sasha Laranoa Harving, VL-Chicago and freelance writer for Paizo products you know and (hopefully) love.
IC-wise, Savna is a pretty bare-bones 1st level fighter. Her party role is to get near things, power attack with her flickmace, and keep people busy. Pretty typical! Oh, and she can handle tough gal tasks like hauling, hefting, and heaving, plus talky things. Just don't expect her to lie. Savna doesn't like lying.

![]() |

Hello and welcome!
I just looked at your writing credits. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I haven't read anything of yours, except for the LOCG. The "advanced gillmen" book sounds interesting, though. One of my PF1 characters is a reincarnated gillman and I am always looking for ways to round out his cultural heritage.

![]() |

Fun (not fun) fact... following the link to the recruitment page fails to show the rest of the tabs. I couldn't find this!
I finally decided to stalk Slothsy's posts. :)

![]() |

I've played twice at level 2, so I sadly can't retrain for free (or retrain my Background like I'd really wish to... was hoping there's be a window there in the blog post). Will retrain my level 2 feat during downtime unless I need to resurrect my jaguar.
This is the most mixed level group I've been in. Slothsy, if you don't mind, let me know if the Challenge Points fall in such a way that the level 1s qualify for the level bump, and, if so, I'll buy the mentor boon for Vigilant Seal before we start. I haven't bothered yet because I haven't encountered the PC level bump yet.

![]() |

Now that additional resources dropped I could bring a level 3 ranger instead if it's helpful for the level balance instead of my alchemist 1. Also happy to remain on the good doctor though.

GM Slothsy |

Oh good to know for the future that you don't automatically see the tabs populate!
TGI is bringing a level one monk instead of a pregen (after much discussion!).
If the levels listed were accurate (three level 1s, a level 2 and a level 3 ), we're looking at 15 challenge points. That puts us in low subtier with a level bump to the adventure. That means the level 1s won't have a level bump.
This is definitely the most mixed level group I've seen as well. I'm interested in seeing how it works out.

![]() |

Hey all! Sorry it took so long to post in here, this is my first PbP so I'm still trying to figure out the weird ins and outs of the paizo website. Lol.
OOC I'm TGI (he/him), I'm a VL for the Richmond, VA area (Slothsy's area) and Slothsy's Fiance!
IC I'm playing a character that I made in ten minutes I mean............ a whisper Elf named Raine!
I'm excited to play with you guys. Just as another FYI, I'm also pretty new to 2e, seasoned player of 1e, but Slothsy will probably be policing me behind the curtain so it might not come up as much.
P.S. I cannot for the life of me get my icons to work for my characters anymore, so I'll be the dumb guy without an icon.

Pirate Rob |

The icon thing likely isn't you, for a bit recently that bit of Paizo infrastructure wasn't working correctly at all, and it's always in what feels like a strange place.
Please forgive if you've already been through these steps
Instead of going to your aliases you have to go to Your Account Page
From there you should find a section called "MESSAGEBOARD ALIASES" under that is a list of characters, click "edit" and that should get you into the bit where you can choose an avatar image. Said page can be a bit temperamental as well of course. :(
Also hi and welcome, we're all still learning PF2 (and hopefully continue to learn)

![]() |

Hi Raine! Welcome!

GM Slothsy |

The gang's all here! Waiting for the last couple of sign-ins on the sign-in sheet here!

GM Slothsy |

Oh! I forgot to ask - does anyone have the boon from Grehunde's Gorget (the 3rd quest) for this character?

![]() |

Negative.

![]() |

@Pirate Rob - thank you so much for the help! But... I have indeed tried that, among other workarounds, and I get the same error. I think it's safe to say that the website is goofy and I can just deal with being naked for now. LOL.
I do appreciate you walking me through it though. It's a mess over there.

![]() |

Lilic has Legacy of the Gorget, can slot it.
Will check, but I think it is a slot-able boon, correct, not a slotless?

![]() |

No, not all. I do not think you jumped the gun at all.
I was just making sure I had to swap something else out (which is done).

![]() |

Also, this is probably a good time to mention that I have one GM glyph, so I can give out one hero point during the session.
Did you find somewhere where they are tallied?
Because I do not find them on my ID Card, nor my Organized Play page. And is the rule still the one that I deem, personally & subjectively, quite idiotic, where you if I [i]Report 10 adventures as GM = 1 glyph[/b]?
(so I got 1 point for running Plaguestone, and the same for running Sandstone Secret?)
Anyhow, I imagine I should have a Glyph, but have no idea of where to ascertain this.

![]() |

Yes, run 10 adventures = 1st glyph, then 30, 60, 100.

![]() |

Character: Chulyin the Spirit Talker
PFS#: 230524-2001
Earn Income: Lore (Library), DC 14: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 x 1 day
School Resources: Scroll of Ant Haul, Scroll of Jump
Faction: Vigilant Seal Champion
Promotional: Promotional Vestments
General 1: Traveler of the Spirit Road
General 2: Cryptid Scholar
General 3: Team Player

![]() |

Yes, that is what I was referring to.

GM Slothsy |

Given the delayed nature of the glyph-granting system and written standards, I'm going to trust people at their word and permit people to use glyph benefits. All adventures are adventures, so if you've run 10 quests, it's good! I expect we'll see scaled-up credit for APs/Modules, much like previous versions, but that hasn't been announced yet.
I'd prefer to be generous with GM rewards while we wait for the electronic systems to get worked out.

![]() |

Can someone explain "slotting boons" for an idiot?
I have "Society Connections" (Day Job CF->F). Do I need to slot that boon now, need to slot it later when I make my roll, or don't need to slot it?

GM Slothsy |

Sure!
Each character gets 5 boon slots to use. At the start of each scenario (typically after the mission briefing), you'll choose what boons that you've earned to use this scenario. Since all you have is Society Connections, you'll slot that to use it this scenario. For characters with more than 5 boons, you'll choose which ones you want active for this scenario.
You don't have to check the box till you actually use it on a roll.

![]() |

Know that you don't have to slot it. You could save it for later.
You would have to slot it before you rolled Earn Income, though, because it changes the DC.

![]() |

You also have slotless boons.
Which you list and use w/o them taking up a slot.

![]() |

I don't have a PF2 Chronicle with me right now, but it will be obvious which ones need to be slotted and which don't?

![]() |

When you have adventure specific ones there will be a cue to slot them.
Like just now for the Gorget.
Including the tip that only character needs to slot for it to apply to all it seems.
Otherwise they are just various things, and you choose what you like/need most.

![]() |

Thanks!
My -2001 has 5 Boons, so I guess I'll deal with this soon.

![]() |

Normally, you have 5 slots:
— Faction boon slot (for the Faction you Champion during this adventure)
— Advanced boon slot (for specific Boons - like the Faction ones)
— Generic boon slot #1 (here you slot three of the Boons that can fit here)
— Generic boon slot #2
— Generic boon slot #3
— Slotless boons #1 and as many as you want... (for all the slotless boons you want)

I have a busy day today, so the update will be this evening. For rolls, it's currently diplomacy only when interacting with race officials, locals, or other teams.
