Lupe Fiasco |
Lupe will go up to the first intersection looking for traps and dangers on the way.
Lady Vulpina of Katapesh |
Vulpina will also follow, looking mildly uncomfortable.
Which, in fairness, is pretty common given how much time they’ve spent in the desert.
Rahella |
Having looked for magical auras, and finding none, Rahella said, "I'm not detecting any magic in here unless something is lurking down the drains or the rock there," she gestured tot eh basalt, "contains metal inside it I can't see."
Lupe Fiasco |
Sorry I'm confused I thought we came down the stairs. Lupe goes to whatever are we have not explored. The tokens were in the rooms with the alters and stair so I assumed that is where we previously explored.
miteke |
The labratory is the new area. The catecombs were where you were at and had previously explored. Both are downstairs. The only place with an intersection, though, is in the catecombs.
So you enter the laboratory and explore for traps.
I'll give the others a chance to say whether they are exploring the lab with you or hanging out in the catecombs, letting you do the dirty work. Except Rahella, she has already stated where she is at.
Lupe Fiasco |
Lupe is exploring the lab.

As you start combing the room, hoping for more valuable magic items, or perhaps a potion or two, three of the beakers start quivering, sensing the presence of nourishment. Lupe, Katsumi, and Rahella are taken by surprise, but the rest of you manage to spot the telltale signs before the mold erupts and attacks.

"Slime molds." Sarona wrinkles her nose and takes a step back from the beaker in front of her.
Her eyes flare a bright blue and she speaks and arcane incantation, putting the tips of her fingers together and splaying them out. A gout of blue flame erupts from her fingers to engulf the mold!

”Anything we ought to be informed of?” asks Vulpina.
For some reason the map doesn’t open in Slides on my phone. How many of these dudes can I fit in a 15-foot cone, either from where I’m standing or a 5-foot step from there?
miteke |
@Sarona
Well, you discovered one thing. Sometimes experience is better than book knowledge and you find that your fire merely sizzles off some of the moisture from the slimy thing leaving it pretty much unharmed with a cloud of steam rising up from it.
@Lady Vulpina of Katapesh
Each of the molds is inconveniently located 15' from each other, one each in the middle of the three tables. Now if you could move 10' and do a line attack! Then it would be convenient.
This is Casper's slide setup and it is in google docs, not google slides. I hear google docs and phones do not play as nicely together as google slides and phones.

I actually plan on picking up the Scatter Gunner archetype, which WILL allow me to do that, iirc.

Ready an attack.
miteke |
To ready an attack you have to have a trigger. You would probably be better served to get within range. Right now you are over 30' from the nearest slime and you do not have a descent ranged weapon. Also, it is taking damage from normal weapons and you do do 1d6+4 melee which is very respectable at level 1.

Okay, I'll get in range to flank one alongside Wolf if possible.

Casper show unusual alacrity for him and dashes all the way around th eroom to get on the other side from Lupe and wolf, avoiding any chance of taking a hit on the way. When he arrives by the mold, it lashes out at ...

him.
Grapple: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (2) - 3 = -1
A tendril quivers with the excitement of sensing so much fresh meat so near by and reaches out for Casper. With scorn, the man simply steps to the side and interposes his short sword. The tendril, not finding what it was looking for retreats and seems to wave about in the air as if searching for better prey.

One of them makes a play for Sarona
Grapple: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (9) - 3 = 6
But finds her metallic body about as tempting as a rock. So far the slimes are 0 for two.
The third slime heads for Lupe and Wolf. At least wolf is mostly organic.
Sarona |
Sarona hefts her quarterstaff and swings it at the slime mold she tried to burn.
Whack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
After taking a wild swing, she then she takes a 5-foot step away from it. Aaliyah withdraws 10 feet behind her.

Katsumi, Rahella, and Lupe were all surprised and did not get to attack in the surprise round, but everyone beat the molds in init. That meant that the unsurprised PCs got a single action during the surprise round before the molds went. Then the molds went, then it is back to normal initiative and everyone gets a full attack. That means that Wolf could have attacked during the surprise round had he 5' stepped (with Lupe dragged along) and done an attack. As it stands, he delayed until Lupe went. No biggie though, since these are really wimpy foes.
Orange is obliterated by Katsumi, Green is obliterated by Lupe and wolf, and Yellow is Sorely thrashed by Casper and is hanging on by a thread. One more good attack by the PCs (Rahella or Lady Vulpina) and it will never get the chance to attack again!

Rahella |
Rahella was shocked by the appearance of the strange slimes that started to attack them but fortunately the things were seemingly quite easy to kill. Having said that she wasn't sure she could even effect them, after all, she had few offensive spells that could harm things and she suspected they were immune to it. Deciding to give it a try anyway Rahella summoned up a glob of acid and lobbed it at the remaining slime.
acid splash: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d3 ⇒ 1
I can't see us on the map anywhere, not sure if it's not loading right or what. If I am firing into melee then subtract two from the above roll.
miteke |
Lady Vulpina swats the thing and it collapses in a puddle of goo. Rahalla, better late than never, adds a little sizzle to the remains. It does seem like the acid was more effective than the fire. And just like that, almost as quickly as the scene erupted, everything falls quiet.
With no more interruptions you search the area, looking for secret compartments and the like, like the dutiful explorers/dungeon cleaners that you are, but find nothing more interesting that some weird cookbooks or something. You cannot decipher the writing, but the pictures are nice!
Lady Vulpina of Katapesh |
”I do not suppose there is anything for black powder?” asks Vulpina. ”I have been meaning to, ah... dabble, as they say.”
Lupe Fiasco |
Lupe watches the group as they read.
Rahella |
Rahella was quite pleased to see her spell work on the strange creature causing the last one to fall. With the threat ended she helped search the room but found nothing of interest either. When it came to the writings that Sarona cast a spell to read she found herself intrigued. She wasn't an alchemist but she'd considered dabbling for a while. Those two items sounded intriguing. "Maybe we'll be able to make some use of them at some point but sadly not right now."
Rahella gestured around them indicating their current level and asked "So where do we check now? I think that has finished this floor hasn't it?"
miteke |
Beneath 16? Ahhhh! you must mean east. At first I thought you meant a room in the catacombs under that room. That was the room the baboons came out of.
The group heads back up the stairs and into the area the baboons came rushing from.
There are 5 beds, austere in monk style, with dented metal chests at the foot of each bed. The only real color is the read and orange glass mosaic on the wall. As you can imagine, this baboon lair is a stinky hairy mess. Anyone stuck staying in this room has quite the cleanup to do. The chests are empty and the baboons have collected nothing of interest or value.
Lupe Fiasco |
"Why don't we check over here."
Lupe and his brother walk over to the next door to the west.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Lupe asks for guidance while looking for traps and trying to hear what is behind the door.
miteke |
You continue your systematic search and arrive at a small vestibule (room 9) with an entrance to another room at the back. the place seems made for waiting and reflection, presumably before entering the other room. Carvings of religious significance like the walls, but none seem to involve Vardishal.
The passage at the back leads to an austere octagonal chamber (room 10) with a tall roof and an aerie of leering gargoyles perched atop each point where a wall meets another wall. An unholy stench of rotting meat, dried blood, and animal excrement hangs heavy in the air, no doubt from the fine crust of gore, animal carcasses, matted leaves, and guano covering the floor.
For the moment you all linger outside the room, intimidated by the smells.
Lupe Fiasco |
"It does smell bad."
Lupe will cast detect magic.
"I can assess some dangers here, but I can't detect disease."
