I posted in discussion, the 'intimidation check' was to convince "Salty" that he doesn't need a higher percentage than anyone else.

Looking towards the younger Shienaran ’Renlo Tacksa, scout and soldier, at least he’s willing to work with an Aes Sedai’ Elek nods politely, turning back to the older man as he speaks. Who apparently didn’t introduce himself. ’Sentries to protect us from ourselves... but he knows his value.’

Watching the man return to his table as he listens to Tenora, Tenora will deal with the Tar Valonor, if there is something fishy, she will root it out. I wonder if that ‘letter’ carries enough clout to get us past ‘sentries’.’ Elek looks towards Renlo and asks quietly, ”Do you believe that one is right about the difficulty of getting into Malkier? Shouldn’t the letter give us clearance?”

He looks quickly toward the other older Shienaran Korin then Bataar, ”If you two go with us that is six, If we give our scout twenty percent what will keep the Tar Valonor from insisting he is more valuable than any of us as well?”

Realizing Marik is walking away, Elek scratches his head, ”Where’s he going?”

Tenora follows Marik.

"If they put your trust in you, I'm sure Alia Sedai and Bennae Sedai had a good reason good sir?"

She pauses for a moment. "Do you have a map to this area? Or are you heading in blind?" She looks at Renlo then back to Marik. "You have men willing to go?" She nods towards Renlo then looks back at Marik "Do you have supplies?"

Renlo shrugs. "I didn't see what the letter said. Generally speaking, the Tower is well respected in Shienar, and with Tenora Sedai leading the expedition, I suspect most patrols would be willing to let us pass. A few weeks after the battle at Tarwin's Gap last year, Lord Agelmar received the Amyrlin Seat herself here in Fal Dara. Does the letter include some other form of permission?"

Oh no worries You were so intimidating that it carried over, :)

"No Aes Sedai. I had nothing but some coin, a letter, and sources that said this wasnt as much a wild goose chase as it was just something no one had time for. I've seen maps and have a general idea where things might be, its why i was recruiting for the expedition here. So near Malkier I was hoping there would be a Shienarian familiar with the area who could get us closer. I've got coin to buy some supplies, I had thought perhaps the letter would make it easier to fully flesh everything out."

He sat down at an empty table taking a deep breath and running his hands through his hair.

After Renlo speaks, Korin nods in agreement with what was said and then adds, ”For myself, I was hoping for a look at that letter to see if it looked authentic - not that I would likely spot a well-made forgery, mind - and if there was anything to substantiate that fellow’s tale before I made any sort of commitment. It is a bit of a tall order to ask a man to stake his life on after all, going into the blight on such an improbable errand under a leader so obviously inexperienced. Although the sister does appear to be taking the letter seriously enough? So perhaps I will go if she will. I have to admit, I would welcome the opportunity to set myself against the shadow.” He smiles a grim little smile and then asks, "You seem to know her, are you her warder? Name's Korin by the way. Male Human(Kandori) Armsan 1 | Woodsman 1 | Wilder 3

Oh no. No, no, no. What do I do? Someone else had the power, a man. An unexpected turn to be sure. Bataar thought wildly, his hand resting on the pommel of his sword, as causally as he could.

He scanned the room.

Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
Weavesight: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

He had to find the channeler. What would he do when he discovered them. The man likely didn't deserve to killed right out. At least, that's what Bataar hoped others would think about him if he were in that situation.

He could barely pay attention to the Southerner. The man seemed to have a flair for the dramatic and at least wise enough to realize that he wouldn't last the day in the Blight without experienced help.

"I've no doubt you believe what you've been told Master Marik. I think we question for several reasons. First, no one just, expeditions into the Blight, Malakier in particular. Folks far enough south tend to think we make Trollocs up for some reason. So a perhaps we would like to make sure you understand that the danger is very real and not at all exaggerated. Also, the details of the arrangement seem strange to me, weapons or no, it is unlike the Tower to allow any Power based items to remain outside of their 'care'. It is possible that we are being led into a trap. I don't know any of you well enough to know why someone would want to trap you, nor do I mean to cast aspersions on your sponsors. I believe the group is just verifying that everything is up to snuff. Regardless, as of this morning, Fal Dara is too crowded and I was headed north anyway. So I'd be happy to accompany you."

Waiting a few moments and swallowing the rest of his drink along with as much of his fear as he could stomach, he motioned for another and casually(for him) made his way near the Aes Sedai

In a volume that only she should hear he said "Tenora Sedai was it? Bataar Rogozin. It surprises me that an Aes Sedai is free to just come on an expedition at the drop of a hat. Are not you and your Warder here on business? Regardless, something doesn't feel right about this newcomer, the guide, I can't put my finger on it' he lied, ' but I think he may have malicious intent. Call it a gut feeling."

’That’s what I thought, the Shienaran, would not interfere with an Aes Sedai… other form of permission.’ As Renlo finishes speaking the other gentleman begins, ‘More questions about the letter, in truth, only Tenora, Marik and I saw it… a tall order indeed, I would not be doing it if she hadn’t asked… she certainly did take the letter serious but she was always serious … her warder? ... Would a warder have needed to promise to accompany her?’

”A pleasure to meet you Korin Mathor.” Looking from Korin to Renlo, ”While the letter did seem intentionally vague. It had the Amyrlin’s seal.” Pausing for a moment, ’What else did it say? It didn’t mention Marik directly, it said the holder but it did say to grant any requests and the tower would cover expenditures. I need to calm their nerves, the truth is always simplest.’ Running his fingers through his shoulder length hair, ”It also said that “The person”bearing the letter had the full confidence of Siuan Seanche and that the white tower would reimburse expenditures.”

Looking directly to Korin, ’How much history do I give him? Elek lowers his voice slightly, ”Yes Tenora and I know each other. As for our past history, her father and mine are brothers. When she was younger she went to the tower. I went to the gem mines of Canluum and became a guard. I learned the sword from my mothers father who is Malkieri.”

’What is Baatar doing?’ Noticing the Kandori move toward Tenora, He begins moving towards the table, gesturing for Korin and Renlo to follow, ”Let us join them at the table.” Stopping, briefly making eye contact with Korin. ”As for being her warder, I find if you want to know an Aes Sedai’s business, it’s best to ask her.” He then continues moving towards Tenora, wanting to see what Baatar is up to.

Happy to continue the conversation on the way to the table, I think Elek has a protective streak and wants to watch out for his cousin.

Renlo frowned as he walked over to the table with Elek. "Did the letter say anything about granting the Tower's authority to the bearer, or anything regarding granting requests? It seems to me that if so, Tenora Sedai could request an audience with Lord Agelmar, and we could get his writ of permission allowing us to enter the Blight. Presenting that to any patrols we encountered would allow us to pass without difficulty."

Perhaps I was too hard on him. But if he's a liar then that's another story

At least this Renlo sounds honest and not full of himself

"That is a good idea. The letter does grant us a bit of authority. I was a bit rough on Mr. Marik and I don't want him to spend his coin, if the Tower wants these items and the lord of the area perhaps would also have some maps of the area."

Korin chuckles and nods. ”That’s fair enough. It is a pleasure to meet you as well, sir. Don't mind my curiosity, I merely like to know a bit about those I may be working with.”

He then joins Renlo in following Elek over to the table. As they walk, he glances over at the portly would-be guide sitting now at the other table. So... Why would such a man have experience slipping into Malkier behind the army’s back? Especially if getting caught will doubtless get him executed as a darkfriend…. It doesn’t sit right. Is he merely a profiteering opportunist or something worse?’ Korin frowns to himself as he files that particular concern away in his mind for the moment and turns his attention to his own table.

Interesting, she seems almost touchy about us thinking he is her warder. They must get that a lot.'

When there is a lull in the conversation, he asks Marik, "Did this fallen tower of yours have a name? How far into Malkier are we talking about?

Retired to SUMITHA

Smiling at Korin’s response he notices the older Shienaran glance towards the other. "I wonder what Korin thinks of our potential guide."

Nearing the table, as Tenora answers first Baatar’s questions and then Renlo’s. ’Good, Tenora can field their questions, she is better at handling people than I am.’

Moving behind his cousin, he pulls a seat from another table setting it slightly behind her, shifting the handle of the curved sword so it would tuck behind the chair, he sits; carefully watching the room.

As Korin asks about the tower, Elek returns his attention to the conversation, ”The capital of Malkier was called “Seven Towers,” it was located along the shores of several lakes, not far from the southern feet of the Mountains of Dhoom. I am not sure of the distance from here.”

Looking toward Marik, ”In all fairness Marik, the letter was very vague. May we assume that it is the Seven Towers that would be our target?" Pausing for a moment, looking saddened "Were you given any specific directions or instructions concerning our end goal?”

you feel a sudden surge as a man seizes more saidan, and your eyes alight upon Gjurn as the only source of a man channeling.

The man begins to raise his hand, before suddenly stopping the action, and instead clenches his fist as he lowers it to his side. The man takes a deep breath, holds it for a moment, and then exhales, visably relaxing.

He had been about to share with the Aes Sedai what he knew, which wasnt much really. Something about the a tower in the northeast part of Malkier. He had been about to tell he she was more than welcome to speak with his aunt, if she wished. He was about to answer the 'expert' about where he could take the twenty percent offer.... Then the man well threatened Tenora Sedai.... at least it sounded like a threat albeit vague. It took a healthy amount of foolishness to threaten an Aes Sedai.

Though worried what sort of mess this was spiralling into since an Aes Sedai had inserted herself into his plans he rose like Elek his hand resting on the hilt of his rapier...

"You should watch your tone with the Aes Sedai..."

He began when the quiet stranger made a move to attack the man from behind. He had no real clue what happened, what had been about to happen or what was going on but he moved rapidly backing away from the confrontation and purposely shielding Tenora Sedai from any possible harm with his body if need be.

I...what...I...huh? What just happened? Yesterday when I checked Tenora was politely refusing Gjurn's assistance, and now we're in combat? My goodness, this escalated quickly.

Renlo watches as the would-be guide comes over again. Persistent. Tenora Sedai politely refused his assistance, and the man grew visibly irate. Renlo's hand unconsciouly clenched into a fist. If he turns violent, we'll try to keep it to a bar fight. Still, the man is either not used to being refused, or has ulterior motives for joining this expedition. I can't trust him.

Knowledge (the Blight) on the accuracy of Gjurn's threats: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Elek doesn't seem to take the threat to Tenora Sedai well - he is her cousin, after all, so it would make sense - but the implication Gjurn was a Darkfriend was not an accusation to be thrown around lightly. Rudeness was not a trait unique to the Shadow. Elek was being a bit rude with the implication, as well, if he was honest.

Bataar stabbing at Gjurn was completely unexpected. Renlo's eyes bulged, "Are you insane, man? You can't just attack someone like that, even if he's rude!"

Renlo's hands grip his sword hilt - it was too close quarters for his bow - but he doesn't draw. He knew he could have it out quick if he needed it, as he adopts a defensive stance in case Bataar attacked him next - or if this Gjurn attacked all of them.

Total Defense for a +4 to my Defense. Def is 23.

Renlo:
Gjurn is spot on with his intimations.

Marlene, from her position at the bar, sees everything happen in slow motion. Gjurn, a loved regular at her fine establishment, offering his services to these folks to lead them into the Blight. 20% has always been his price for services. Most folks talk him into half now, half later, but these..huh. Strange. Must do things differently in the Southlands. Bit of odd ducks they are. And what's Korin doing mixing with these people? Does he know them? She kneels down to get something from under the bar. The sound of chairs scrapping across the hardwood floor sounds quietly, and the voice of Gjurn speaking sounds like a distant buzz to her ears.

Marlene stands up and looks over, only to see Elek standing off to the side of Gjurn, his hand hovering over his sword hilt. His feet shift into a steady position under his hips, providing him with balance. Uh oh She thinks, her eyes snapping to Korin as he begins to get out of his chair...

A flash of movement catches her eye, and she sees Bataar, sword drawn, lunging-She opens her mouth to scream a warning- but she is too late. Bataar plunges his sword through the back of Gjurn! NO!

Marlene screams MURDERERS! GUARDS! GUARDS! MURDERERS HERE! HELP!

her screams rouse a man who was sleeping away his drink at the bar. he lifts his head and blinks, and watches as Gjurn slips to his knees, the sword slowly being pulled out of his body.

STOP! Guards! Korin shouts, but the man at the table, seeing double due to heavy drink, sees korin standing over the body of the man. The man leaps to his feet and runs out the doors screaming GUARDS! GUARDS! MURDER!

The other patrons in the bar, all 5 of them, look at all of you in shock, seeing gjurn on the hardwood, his blood slowly spreading upon the floor.

just to be clear, from marlene's perspective...all of you participated in the murder.

first, you have to embrace the Source, which is a full round action. Then youd use harden air to stop bataar. It'd be a 3rd level weave, base. Since you have the affinity for air, it drops the weave level to 2nd level slot, but still retain the same DC as if it was 3rd level. it'd be a Reflex save DC 16 (DC 10+Base weave level+ Int mod) for Bataar to evade the weave.

Tenora takes a long, penetrating look at Bataar. She studies his pained expression and desperate motion of his rapid eye glances towards the rear door. The barmaid marlane continues her wail of seeking help from the town guard, which can only be minutes away. Holding this man would help...but there is more at play with this man...Three days north of here is a small Village aptly named Thorn, because...well, more on that later. Go there and hide. We shall be there, as Elek said, within 5 to 6 days from today. If we do not show up, then flee this land, knowing that your freedom cost us.[/i]

Giving himself a shake, still in disbelief at what had just happened, Eenlo knelt down to check for signs of life.

The Aes Sedai safe for the moment he watched the strange dirty man flee through the back. He was shaking and he wasnt sure why.... oh wait yes the screaming barmaid that they were all murderers. Well being near the Aes Sedai would help with that, he was certainly linked to her now.

"Give Tenora Sedai space, I am sure she can make him right as rain in no time with the power."

He began stepping out of the way to make sure she had space.

"Blood and ashes what just happened?"

He said aloud. It was a rhetorical question he didnt think anyone had real answers. He made his way to the bar already reaching into his coin pouch.

"Miss, miss. Calm down please. The murderer just fled out the back. The Aes Sedai will get to the bottom of this i'm sure. Do you need something to steady your nerves? Do you gentlemen need anything to settle your nerves Crazy day eh?"

diplomancy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15

He began doing his best to calm her down, before anyone else did anything wild.

Eh I would have loved to roll better than that *lawls* but oh well eh?

"Is he alive?" Korin asks, his eyes narrowing after the escaping Bataar. The way he had been stiffly frozen and then suddenly limber again meant the Aes Sedai must have used her power. Korin shivers imperceptibly. The night had gone downhill remarkably fast. "I trust we have a very good reason for letting that murderer go free and putting our necks on the block in his stead."

took the weekend off from posting. well, lets have at it!

not sure when Tenora is going to be able to join us, must have been an awesome weekend at the con so i'll just play for her until she chimes in.

note to everyone, we are out of combat...

Renlo:
your quick examination of Gjurn shows that he is still alive, but his blood is leaking fast out of his body. It looks like the sword severed an artery inside Gjurn and forcing blood out.

Tenora surveys the scene, her eyes glancing everywhere...

Barmaid screaming...
Murderer fled out the back...
body on the floor...
potential murder...
CHECK THE BODY! The voice of her Trainer in the healing arts suddenly echoes within her head, and Tenora's years of practice suddenly kick in.

Tenora Kneels down and looks at Renlo and Elek. Please. Calm yourselves. Allow me to examine the...man she cannot help but sneer at the guy who had just moments before insinuated all those terrible things to her, the idea of Myrddraal raping her, torturing her, making her a puppet, subject to their whims...

she shakes her head. Must remain calm. Know the subject she thinks to herself, and then settles her mind.
tenora composure: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23

The traditional look of aes sedai Aloofness overcomes Tenora's face as she examines Gjurn.
tenora heal check: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25

seeing the damage upon gjurn, Tenora, already embracing Saidar weaves strands of air, water, and spirit into a tight-knit weave upon Gjurns body, the weave entering Gjurns body and begins repairing the internal damage that was caused by Bataars blade.

The men at the table, standing up and looking at the scene with curiosity and a questionable aire, they listen to what Marik has to say and one of them nods.
Well, i dont think that all of you murdered poor Gjurn, not that he never had it coming to him, Blight-blinded fool. He was abrasive, arrogant with his knowledge, but he didnt deserve this...He going to be ok? is that really an Aes Sedai helping him right now?
your diplomacy roll helped sooth the men at the table over, but the barmaid needs some special persuasion

Outside

bataar:

You rush down the short hallway and head through the rear of the building, passing through the kitchen and out into the rear courtyard of the Tavern. You glance about and see the stables where your horse is kept. Off in the distance, you hear a man screaming for guards, and whistles sounding in response to the plea.

Retired to SUMITHA

'Give Tenora Sedai space Marik, right need to let her look at him ...allow me to examine the man...I know that tone though, she's not happy about it.' Elek stands and takes a step back, crossing his arms to resist placing his hands on weapons.

'Why did I tell him to run, was it because he was Kandori, or because I wanted to kill this man as well.' Korin's question echoing in his head he looks at the older man but remains silent.

His eyes shift to Marik and then the other customers. 'At least Marik has them calmed down I wonder if he can soother the barmaid.'

Renlo says, "He's not dead yet, Aes Sedai. I think you had time to act and save him before he expired. Thank you."

Renlo stands back to allow Tenora Sedai time to work, looking at Elek and Korin. In a low voice, he says, "What just happened there? I know he was being rude, but that is hardly cause for stabbing him. What do you think the man was thinking?"

Retired to SUMITHA

'What was he thinking?' Moving closer to Renlo and Korin, "Other than the guy needed to be shut up, I have no Idea. He said "Let me flee, I will explain in the north."

Shrugging his shoulders lightly "Tenora said we would look for him. I assume to explain."

He nods towards Gjurn, smirking, "Do you think this one still wants to go with us? It would be interesting to see what he has to say at Bataar's accusations."

A few minutes pass, and Tenora slumps back from kneeling and into a cross legged position. She takes a deep breath and sighs loudly. Whew...that was more intense than i thought it'd be. He was close, but i was able to save him. He needs rest... she trails off as Gjurn shifts slightly and moans.

At that moment, a couple guardsman step into the Inn. Dressed in mail coats, wearing open faced helmets with slight red plumes upon the crest, they survey the scene, taking stock of everything within the tavern.

one of the men step forward and asks What's this about a murder?

Marlane, having taking several large hits of heavy drink, answers him. Sir, i witnessed it. They, over there, they killed a man, clear as day...well...they stabbed him, they did.

Clattering down the hallway of the inn, Bataar through open the back door and fled to the stable. He grabbed the reigns of Naan his horse.

A calm mare, sturdy though not exceptionally fast, he mounted quickly and kicked her up to a brisk walk. Best not to be seen in to much a hurry. Just ride casual.

Turning north and looking as inconspicuous as he could Bataar headed for the outskirts of Fal Dara.

With a smiling nod he waited politely for miss Marlane to finish.

"Do pardon my interuption. Miss Marlane did indeed see that guest get stabbed but im afraid in the chaos she may have missed a few details.
I'm Marik Carter up this way on business from the Tower. Tenora Sedai who is currently healing the wounded man can verify that with my charter she's holding onto for safekeeping.

I was up this way trying to hire good brave walk in the light folk on a hunt for a cache of weapons and supplies lost when Malkier fell. The white tower has a belief there is a cache of gear in one of the towers I was sent to try and find. The intention is to gather those missing arms and armor and return them to the light.

Gjurn there was offering his services to me when a man, just slipped up behind him and stabbed him clean through the back. Bateer i think the fellow said his name was, to be honest guardsman, i've had a lot of names running through my head right now. Anyhow, Just as I was about to try to haggle down Gjurn's offer, Twenty percent off the top is just too steep for a single man considering the nature of the adventure when that fellow stabbed him. He ran out the back of the inn just moments ago. Perhaps they may be able to catch him at the gate? What a day i tell you."

He began doing his best to make it sound clear that the crazyness that had just occured was no one currently in the rooms fault.

thanks for botting me. Was busy at work yesterday.

"Perhaps we should speak with Lord Agelmar Miss Marlane. We do not wish to cause your inn any ill will"

are the watch here?

Yep, they're here.

This Tar Valoner, Marik, had a lot of charm and was quite eloquent. He may have seemed a con artist and a fop, but he didn't appear to be stupid. Still, inexperience in the Blight could get you killed quickly.

Aid Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 17

"Peace be on your blades, watchmen. Renlo Tacksa, Blight scout out of Eiju. It happened pretty much as Marik here said, although I can't fathom why. One minute, we were all talking, and the next that Bataar guy was stabbing Gjurn here. Now, admittedly, Gjurn here was being a bit rude, not accepting Tenora Sedai's refusal of his assistance, but rudeness is hardly justification for murder. Peace! It was like some kind of madness."

Retired to SUMITHA

Turning from Korin to the guardsmen,'Guardsman, I have to admit, they are quick.' Wiping the smile off of his face, as Marik address the barmaid then the guardsmen. 'Do pardon my interruption' very smooth, probably is related to an Aes Sedai.' Realizing his arms were still crossed he places them behind his back, 'He quickly owns the story, drawing the attention away from those threatening Gjurn, a bold brave move, maybe I was wrong about him.'

Glancing toward Tenora, 'Speak with Lord Agelmar, still bold as always. No reason not to move ahead with the plan.'

As Renlo speaks,'Some kind of madness indeed.' Realizing the Guards were looking towards Renlo, and now his general direction, 'Probably shouldn't make any sudden moves.' Elek, resists the urge to run his hand though his hair, but nods in agreement. "I am Elek Kardforgató of Caniuum, here to meet with Tenora Sedai. It is as these gentlemen have said."

The guard who walked in and had taken charge, looks at the ceiling and shakes his head. Light! Save me from helpful idiots.

Looking down again and taking in the scene, seeing one group nod and insist that that was the way it happened, and Marlane visibly shaken, and four other workman lounging in their drinks, the guardsman sighs again. He holds his hands up
Enough! Peace! Enough. One at a time. One at a time. Shurn, Milkaen, go secure the back while i deal with these folks here. Heruumn, Check on Gjurn, see that he's ok. I got the front here, plus we should have second squad coming here within a couple minutes, they can secure the area around the building.

The men, Shurn, Milkaen, and Heruumn nod and move out with alacrity. Heruumn examines gjurn while the other two move towards the back and secure the doors.

if it's alright with everyone, im going to skip a head a bit with the story...

bataar:
make 5 stealth checks, at DC 10, 12, 15, 12, 10. Each one represents a specific interval in which you attempt to evade guards as you make your way out of Fal Dara.

All of you stand inside the city watchmans headquarters found within the Inner keep of Fal Dara. A large room, easily able to accomodate 30+ people, the room is lit by three large iron chandeliers where small torches per chandelier hangs. The flames flicker and move, causing light shadows to move upon the soot darkened walls. Gjurn lays upon a cot, set off to the side near the fireplace that crackles and burns, poping off snaps of wood snapping as it is consumed.

The man who you first talked to in the Inn, simply known as Girksen, stands to the side and finishes his observations of what he saw at the inn and an oral recitation of all your statements, Which turns out to be near perfect recollections of your words. Girksen nods to the man sitting behind the desk and steps up to you and a step back behind you.

The other man in the room, the man who was introduced as Captain Tylu of the city watchmen, looks at all of you with a blurry gaze. You can easily tell that he has been roused from his sleep and, as of yet, still isnt fully awake. He groans and grunts a little as he shifts in his seat, and finally settles his eyes upon Marik.

Let me get this straight. Youre looking for lost arms and armor in Malkier. ANd your looking for help to go into malkier. And the lot of you he extends a finger and sweeps it across the rest of the group are thinking about going with him. And you have a note from the Amyrlin saying that you have permission to do this and that I am supposed to help in any and every way. Oh, and Gjurn over there was trying to get himself involved by being his helpful self, only your other...Friend stabbed gjurn in the back because of...reasons unknown? And then you, Tenora Sedai, you healed Gjurn because that's what youre supposed to do? And lucky for you guys, this...Bataer fellow slipped away, and you have no idea where he is headed, have no association with him, no nothing. And Korin! How in the Creator's name did you get roped into all of this?

Korin, see your PMs
