Krovax Draverian |
Krovax shoots Kali a look akin to ”We just settled this.” But he doesn’t say anything to her directly. He instead turns to their host and adds ”She’s right. My motivations are my own. I have confirmation from my own sources as to Gaedren’s involvement or knowledge of the crime. You just add credence to my own investigation. So let’s get right to it then.”
GM Litejedi |
Nodding at Krovax and Asoka silently, the woman picks up the harrow deck in front of her and idly begins shuffling the cards deftly as she waits for all the assembled people to acquiesce to her request.
Kaliyah Tatarescu |
When she sees this isn’t progressing until the old lady has her way, she pushes off the wall and grudgingly plops into a seat at the table. Crossing her arms she says ”Fine. We’ll do it your way, lady.”
Remembering her card, she unfolds her arms and pulls out the mountain man and puts in on the table. ”What does this even mean anyway?”
Vera Esmeranda |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Once the bread is uncovered, Vera starts to eat it quite happily, not at all troubled that it's stale. She chews with her mouth wide open. When she goes to wash it down with some wine, she frowns at the taste but gulps it down anyway.
"Well, I have no idea why I'm here. I don't think I ever met this Gaedren. I'm not sure if I belong in this revenge party. But I know there's something special about this place. I could feel it". She looks at the woman and her cards carefully, impressed by how she had known about everything, and eager to see a master of the harrow at work.
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu |
sense motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Magda is busy eating. Morning are for clearing traps, cleaning the spoils, leaving midday for actual eating. Today though has been muddled to the hells and back, so this is her first real meal. She's not going to ruin it with all this pointless babbling. Her wide eyes just follow speaker after speaker while she chews, swallows, repeats.
A hideous chalk-on-blackboard screech from the cat, who has found shelf to look down on all the people, makes the half orc stop for a moment. "Fine." she snaps at the cat, before looking at the woman and other man still standing. "Card lady here won't start until you lot decides to stop being wall posts and just sit."
GM Litejedi |
The woman waits a few minutes for everyone to sit, then smiles again.
”Thank you for coming, my friends, and for putting up with my unconventional method of contacting you. I have reason to remain hidden, you see—a vicious man would see great harm done to me if he knew I was reaching out for help. This man has done something terrible to each of you as well. I speak, of course, of Gaedren Lamm, a man whose cruelty and capacity to destroy the lives of those he touches are matched only by his gift for avoiding reprisal. You see, a number of years ago, his thieves stole this, my harrow deck, from me. It is important to me, an heirloom passed down through a dozen generations, and also my sole means of support. When Lamm’s pickpockets stole it, my son Eran tracked them down and returned my deck to me. But Gaedren had him followed, and soon after he left my home, Gaedren’s thugs murdered him.”
”I sought help from the Korvosan Guard, but they turned me away. And so I asked around. I paid bribes. I consulted my harrow deck for advice. And recently, I was rewarded—I found out where Gaedren dwells. He can be found in an old fishery north of here, at Westpier 17, where he trains abducted children to be pickpockets and beggars, and counts his stolen treasures.“
”But I need your help. I cannot hope to face this man on my own, and the Guard moves so slowly that if they were willing to help, Gaedren would certainly know of their coming well in advance. And even if they arrested him, what guarantee would I have he would be punished? This criminal has evaded the law for decades. But you know of these frustrations as well, for word on the street has it that Gaedren has wronged each of you, too. So there we are. It is time for him to pay.”
She then begins revealing the harrow cards in front of her, peering at them, and reshuffling the deck. Pointedly looking at Krovax, she starts a Harrow reading while she answers what questions that she can.
Asoka Takano |
Asoka listens to the woman's words and when she finally pauses she is the first to ask "That is all well and good and I'm sorry for your loss, but I still want to know how you tracked each of us down and slipped us these cards? While I've heard the man's name, and I have my assumptions of the man, I don't know what specifically he has done, nor do I have hard proof past a vague link, how do you know so much of his misdeeds?"
GM Litejedi |
”The Harrow speaks to me, Asoka. As for your connection, please forgive me if this hurts you, but I am sure you wondered what happened to Keenan. It was Lamm, or more accurately - Hookshanks, one of his disgusting minions.” She smiles sympathetically.
She seems to not be telling the entire truth about herself, but everything else seems spot on.
”Perhaps I can put your mind at ease with my name ... Zellara” She conspicuously seems to avoid the question of how she got the card to each of you.
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu |
The half-orc doesn't manage to hold in a shudder at the mention of 'Hookshanks'
For a few moments she just looks down at her food. Though she is not lost in her past enough to miss the caginess in the harrow reader's voice.
sense motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Looking up and over to the woman, she adds to the questioning, stress and nerves all over her young body "We're all people who want to see the old man dead. Got it. You're crystal on that one. But wouldn't it be keen to get us all in one stupid warren of a place like the fishery for his thugs to cut us down? Meaning why in the stinking dung should we trust you?"
Vera Esmeranda |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16.
As the harrower begins, Vera is happily watching the woman at work. But as she hears more about the woman's story, Vera's expression quickly turns from delight to concern.
When Magda voices her doubts, though, Vera interjects. "That doesn't mane sense. Why would Gaedren assemble a group of soldiers together to ambush them? That just makes them far stronger against any trap. Also, why would he gather together people who don't even know they have a connection to Gaedren? I wouldn't have known to come here without being summoned. The Harrow is a powerful thing, and I believe fate has brought us together for some purpose."
Kaliyah Tatarescu |
Kali looks around at the other members at the rest of the table and when she doesn't see what she excepts to see, she rises to her feet. Pushing in her chair back to the table, she starts to walk to the front door intending to leave. She stops at the door and turns back, looking over her shoulder "Old fishery north of here, Westpier 17, right? Why are we still talking, let's go take care of this problem right now before he gets away again. I'll go do it by myself if you aren't coming."
The thought of this small woman hiding under a cloak taking down this evil man who has interfered and ruined numerous lives in this room is nearly laughable, but that doesn't seem to stop her from thinking she can do it.
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu |
As the cheerful one her own age counters her argument, which SHE silently admits was pretty weak, Magda looks toward her noticing a tightening and a quiver.
sense motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
A mirror of her own frayed nerves at the mention of Lamm. "Shouldn't we hear whatever strange lady has to say first?" she asks the woman running out the door. "Pa- Lamm is bad, really bad, and he's never alone. He'll-- break us, if we're Alone." the word break from her lips carry a significant amount of pain. "I... don't trust any of you. But- I know I'll just keep running if I got to do this by myself." slumping back in her chair "And I don't know how much more running I can do." how many nights has she gone without sleep cause she suddenly thought he was close.
Krovax Draverian |
Krovax looks directly through the woman speaking, taking note of where she says Gaedren is located. He stands as Kali does. ”Little Bird is right. Unless you have more to say to provide us an edge against this cretin, I’m ready to go mete our justice. But all of you need to know this,” he says as he looks you all over with extreme seriousness in his eyes, ”No matter the injustices he has done to you, if you want him to truly pay for his crimes, then he dies by my hand and mine alone, and only after I have given him more suffering than any mortal has ever endured. I will not tolerate this being taken from me.”
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu |
Magda just stares at the iron golem, before looking at the lady at the door. "Little Bird? Is that actually your name?" Magda ignores the rest since if giving even the slightest bit of chance she will drop a load of crates on Lamm's head, or stab him in the back, feed his eyes to cat, etc. All no matter what scary man says.
Kaliyah Tatarescu |
Kali was not expecting questions be sent in her direction. looks at Magda and responds ”Yes. No. I mean sort of. It’s a name I go by sometimes.”. As multiple sets of eyes turn to her, she shrinks into her hooded cloak even more.
”Kaliyah.” she finally says.”My name is Kaliyah.” she repeats.
GM Litejedi |
First, Zellara draws nine cards specific cards, and shuffles them, allowing each person at the option of choosing the card from her fan, or if they choose not to participate, tossing the card in front of them, face up and spinning to a stop to be perfectly placed in front of the recipient.
Krovax: 1d9 ⇒ 2 The Cricket ”Interesting...”
Kali: 1d8 ⇒ 1 The Avalanche ”Fortunate!”
Asoka: 1d7 ⇒ 1 The Crows ”Beneficial!”
Marcus: 1d6 ⇒ 5 The Peacock ”Important...”
Magpie: 1d5 ⇒ 5 The Rabbit Prince ”Perplexing...”
Vera: 1d4 ⇒ 1 The Dance ”Intriguing...”
Then she asks for the cards to be returned. If the person who had the card has already left, she asks their neighbor to retrieve it for her. Then she performs a traditional harrowing, laying out a Tableau of nine cards in a 3x3 square.

Bottom Right: 1d9 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (6) = 12
The Owl | The Tangled Briar | The Eclipse
The Forge | The Idiot| The Carnival
The Survivor | The Lost | The Betrayal
She interprets the spread in the following way:
”The owl, reflective in this position of the wisdom of the natural order, at some point in the past. The owl here would signify that you should trust in those who had held to the traditions of the natural world to escape from adversity” slightly nodding at Magpie and Kali, ”lean on those traditions for support in difficult times.”
She raises her eyebrows and says ”The forge, which is perfect match, and indicates you all found strength through diversity, of person or opinion, to get to this point. Which could mean that to succeed, you will have to do so again.” She adds, ”no person was an island of wisdom. Perhaps if you believed you were, you were mistaken? Reflect for a moment.” She appears to be thinking, but reveals the next card.
She laughs, bitterly ”The survivor, misaligned, of course, you have all had profound loss. The harrow may have decided to be a bit, on the nose” she wrinkles her own nose, and turns the next card.
Nodding as it is revealed, she points to the card, ”The tangled briar, but misaligned. Showing that old evils will endanger the current task. Set aside your old wounds and the remembrance of cruelty and focus lest everything be lost. ” On the word cruelty she sharply watches the departing form of Krovax, seeming to bore a hole straight through his armor. After a moment, she turns the next card.
”Interesting, the idiot, signifying grave foolishness and greed, at this very moment, leading to ruin.” She tilts her head, eyes flashing at those who have chosen to leave before the harrowing is complete. ”But also that you may soon find people who’s greed lead to ruin for all.” Then seemingly, her inscrutable mask is back, and she reveals the last card of the present.
She keeps her finger on the card and looks up at Marcus, and longer at Vera, ”The lost, showing some among you have the loss of identity.” Her eyes flick downward quickly, and she seems briefly much sadder than any of you knew was possible, like the shell of a person, animated through inertia, but only for a moment. ”Perhaps you will soon meet someone else with such a loss - you may need to repair it.”
She breathes deep and reveals the first future card ”The Eclipse, which is an exact opposite match, signifying unheralded abilities, in the future.” She wryly smiles at Krovax, then drags her gaze over to Asoka, her face changing to a look of profound respect. She reveals the second to last card for the future. ”Perhaps you will all find that the others you meet have abilities you don’t expect. Be wary!
She gasps ”The Carnival, and in a position showing a perfect match, signifying that you will be subject to illusions and false dreams.” She looks concerned, ”perhaps someone or something will not be what they say they are - for better or worse.” With a sigh, she reveals the final card.
She’s startled, but shakes her head ”The Betrayal, showing that selfishness leads one of you to ruin.” Her expression tilts down darkly, ”beware, for this betrayal will harm all - including the betrayer, more than they can know.” She looks at no one then sighs and raises her head, looking at everyone.
Each PC has two (2) Harrow Points (unfortunately, not many) for this chapter. They may be used in the way I specify in the campaign description, during ‘The Edge of Anarchy’. This assumes a character didn’t walk out during the harrowing. If your character does, they only get one harrow point.
”As for your earlier question, I knew about all of you because I listen to the music of the city, and as you can see, my cards tell me more than they tell most.”
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu |
Quite a bit of the woman's telling goes over Magpie's head. Besides not knowing a couple of the words, (perplexing?!?), most of the rest just sounded like the babbling of that old guy outside the Wash. 'You will find something. Someone you know will die! Something WILL happen!'
Until the last part 'I listen to the music of the city'... she finds herself grinning a bit, suddenly less worried about dying, or worse, becoming Lamm's again.
Kaliyah Tatarescu |
Kali catches the gist of what the old lady is saying, but she makes a mental note to ask the happy gal who does fortune telling about it after they leave. She doesn’t want to make a scene here so she simply nods and says ”Thanks?” I Think?
Vera Esmeranda |
"The Dance!" says Vera, as she receives her own card. "Like a real dance, it portends a complicated framework that requires the cooperation of all to avoid collapse." A little bit like this group, she thinks. Did Vera need to be the one to hold this strange collection of characters together? It sure felt that way, if Vera was ever going to get to the bottom of this mystery. She felt the answers lay in seeing this strange quest to its conclusion, but between the Tangled Briar, the Idiot, and the Lost, it was going to be a real challenge.
As the harrow reading concludes, Vera still seems a little dazed and stupefied. She walks up to Zellara. "I-- you--" she looks around at the others, self-consciously. "Um, thanks for bringing me here," she finally says. " I know I belong, even if I don't understand why. This might sound weird, but do you mind if I give you a hug?"
When that's done, she approaches Magpie. "I'm really glad you're here. Otherwise I'd be the only girl in a group of dangerous soldiers. Since we're talking about real names, is Magpie really yours?"
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu |
"Oh um" Magpie stands up quickly, looking embarrassed for not introducing herself before. Rude, Bala would glare at here, after all those manners lessons (well one, and it ended with screaming and throwing).
"That's just what- I collect things, is the reason why, maybe? I think it is a bird or something." flustered, she's taller than the other girl, probably due to her orcyness "Magda. Magda Vasiliu. Yours is Vera? I heard you tell the others outside." the cat meows loudly and painfully "And that is Cat."
Vera Esmeranda |
Oops, I may have not had any reason to know your name--but Vera knows all!
Quite suddenly, the sound of hissing is heard from within Vera's blouse. "No! Bad! Susan, knock it off!" A snake slithers out from her sleeve and again hisses dangerously at Cat. "Back inside, back inside!" insists Vera, before it goes into hiding again. "Sorry, I guess you found out one of my little secrets. Susan is actually quite nice, at least to nice people. And yes, I really am Vera. I admit I gave myself the title of fortuneteller extraordinaire!"
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu |
Magda's eyes go wide. She has a snake. In Her Blouse! "That is amazing! Does it bite? Cat does so probably no one try to pet him." the half orc bends down to wave a finger up and down to say hi to Susan.
Vera seems nice so Magda gets something off her chest. "Listen... Lamm will have kids with him. He always does. No matter what else happens, whether we all kill him or that steel can over that takes him for fun time, we have to get the kids out of there, and somewhere they can be safe and fed." Magpie has no idea where that might be.
"They'll be afraid of them." nodding to the adults, "But we might have a better chance. We have to try, at least."
Vera Esmeranda |
"Susan's bitten someone before. But he really deserved it." Vera leaves it at that. The snake seems wholly indifferent to Magda's tiny wave.
"Lamm has kids?" says Vera in surprise. "I didn't think he would be much of a dad." Apparently misunderstanding Magpie, Vera glances back with concern at the dark-armored man, then leans in conspiratorially. "Krovax seems really, really angry, though. I don't think Lamm's kids deserve any punishment but what are we supposed to do?"
GM Litejedi |
Zellara hesitantly returns Vera's hug, standing up and patting Vera's back. She smiles at Vera. "Now you have consulted with the spirits - I recommend making haste - this evening, if possible, to take down his operation."
She nods at Magda, "his greatest crime - hurting, maiming, exploiting, and even killing children."
Vera Esmeranda |
Vera offers a much tighter squeeze in return to Zellara's hug. When she lets go, she has a weak smile. She wipes away a tear.
Zellara's explanation of Gaedren's misdeeds opens Vera's eyes. Gaedren was the sort of man who wanted to take advantage of her and other little children, back when she was a child of the streets. The kind of man that she was protected from, in her own unfortunate way. "That's awful! You're right, we need to save the children from that horrible man!"
All of a sudden, Vera changes from being eager to linger to bursting out the door. "What are we waiting for? The Lancet Street Irregulars march to victory!" Vera starts sending sparkles into the air, suggesting that she has facility with magical parlor tricks. Prestidigitation and/or Dancing Lights.
Kaliyah Tatarescu |
Kali watches Zellara finish her reading and then only partially observes Vera and Mudpie or whatever he name was getting on together. When snakes, cats and other animals start appearing out from everyone's clothes, she decides it is as good as time as any to leave. She announces without turning around to face anyone. "I'm leaving and heading there. Come along if you wish."
And with that, Kaliyah exits the house and starts heading towards Westpier 17.
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu |
She get nods at the old woman's explaination, feeling though that the simple words do not do the crimes justice.
As the others start to leave, Magda hurries to get her boots back on, stuff a loaf of bread into her bag, and then hurries out the door. Cat follows.
Asoka Takano |
Asoka sits their silently staring at the table during the whole reading, her eyes are half glazed over as she processes what the woman tells her. When Magda and Vera start making a raucous between their two pets and Kali talks about leaving Asoka snaps out of it. She clenches her fist, as her nails dig into the palms of her hands and tears well up in her eyes. The young woman abruptly stands as tears start to stream down her cheeks, nearly knocking over her chair as she runs towards the door and pushes her way outside. She starts running down the street away from the house, not turning back...
She strips down and takes a deep breath as she focuses on her natural form. Fur beings to cover her pale skin, a muzzle sprouts from her face and her teeth sharpen, her lower leg snaps and forms another knee joint that bends back the other way as her feet turn to paws. After a few moments her transformation is complete. She shakes her body, and smiles as she feels absolutely herself in her normal skin.
Quickly she retrieves the items from the chest and suits up. She covers her face with the mask and her head with the dark hood before closing and locking the chest and leaving to find Westpier 17. Between the mask, armor and clothes it is difficult to see her fur, however her tail sticks out slightly underneath the cloak, and her oddly bent legs, while moving, would make it pretty apparent she was not human. Her muzzle is mostly covered by the mask, but it is pretty obvious that she does not have a human face.
Not sure if her running and changing and then heading to the pier would have her arriving after the others, before or at the same time, so just let me know when she should show up.
Kaliyah Tatarescu |
Kali is already outside when Asoka pushes past her. When she notices her going the wrong way she calls out "Hey Asoka, that's not the right way. We need to be heading-" but stops talking as it becomes apparent that she's upset about something and has no intention of coming with them.
Shrugging, she offers "Looks like she doesn't want revenge after all."
GM Litejedi |
Shi Ni |
As Krovax starts to march toward the door, followed by the others a cloaked and masked woman calls out "Wait!" her voice is a little gravelly and has a bestial tone to it.
As the woman steps out from the shadows, you can't make out much behind the mask, cloak, and hood, but you see she wears armor not common to Korvosa and has an a few weapons that you wouldn't commonly see in use here either. She holds her hands up in a show of peace and you see instead of finger nails she has claws.
She slowly approaches and says "You are here for Lamm? So am I, but don't just rush in, let's be smart and careful so we make sure he doesn't have a chance to escape..."
Kaliyah Tatarescu |
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Kali takes note of the hidden asset of the masked, cloaked and hooded newcomer. Mask! I need a mask. Good look!
Turning to look her over, Kali holds up a hand to stop the party."Wait, wait wait."What is this, everyone in the city turning out to hunt Lamm?"[/b]
Eyeing her suspiciously, she asks "Who and what are you? How do we know you don't work for Lamm? Where's your card? How did you get here?"
Shi Ni |
She nods to the first part Of Korvax's question and shrugs to the second then replies "Well we have to find him first, let me check the place out."
As Kali speaks up she shakes her head "Does it matter who I am? If I worked for Lamm, why wouldn't I be running off to warn him? He is a piece of scum that taints this city and needs to be dealt with. We have a common enemy so why not work together?"
Kaliyah Tatarescu |
Kali nods to Shi's statement, It's the truth. she thinks to herself. She has a point there.
"Wait a minute. You think you are going in first? What, to warn Lamm? No way. It matters to me that I know I'm not going to get stabbed in the back or setup for a trap once we enter."
Bluff: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (20) - 3 = 17 Oof. I should not try to lie anymore.
"I know all of these people here, I just don't know you. Who are you? How did you know to come here and why now?"
Luckily she has no idea I don't know all of these people here.
Shi Ni |
She sighs as Kali attempts to lie to her but doesn't say anything about it then simply replies "You can call me Shi, I got a tip this is where I could find Lamm so here I am."
She looks back to the building then shrugs as she replies with a snide comment "You plan to sneak up there and scout the place out instead? Be my guest, just don't mess it up and alert them that we are here... I don't think your friend would be too happy if you were the reason Lamm escaped." she motions towards Korvax.
Kaliyah Tatarescu |
Kaliyah looks over to Krovax to see how he's interpreting this tailed figurine's grand entrance right when they are going to enter. She isn't sure how she feels about this coincidental arrival, but she doesn't know how to proceed and whether she should just relent.
She does know she failed the sneaking and infiltrating portion of her exam though, frowning. "Fine. You go first, but," she marches up towards her and places her right index finger on her sternum "If you mess this up for me, you will regret it. Got it Shi-tail?"
Intimidate: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0 Nailed it.
Shi Ni |
Shi laughs and just brushes Kali's hand away as she notes "Whatever you say..." She moves ahead and looks around to make sure there aren't any guards outside before quietly sneaking toward the building to start checking for any points of egress.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Krovax Draverian |
Krovax watches the new arrival dart off, but is more focused on their supposed “help” rather than watching for any scouts of Lamm. Not that he cares if they see him coming, their fate was sealed...
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Vera Esmeranda |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Vera doesn't say much until the new arrival, Shi, starts scouting ahead. "Woah, was that a werewolf?" she wonders, as she tries to understand what the masked bestial creature might be. "Suddenly, the Eclipse card from Zellara's harrow feels like a better fit." Either that or the Betrayal . . . let's hope it's not that.
She opens up her backpack and pulls out a crossbow. "I didn't expect to have to use this," she says, as she peers at the contraption from various angles before finding the crank to pull it back. She drops a bolt in. "Let's hope I still don't need to use it?" Vera stays decidedly in the back of the group as the more bloodthirsty advance.
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu |
"Why... why is she going alone? Don't any of you have any idea who you are dealing with?!?" Magda whisper yells, hesitates because she really REALLY does not want to go in there without all of these heavily armed people, but then follows the Vera proclaimed werewolf. Cat coming along just because why would he stay with these people.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 harrow re-roll
Quietly the half orc shadow slides next to the ginger shadow, brushing a hand lightly on her shoulder, she'll point to an opening.
Marcus the Dog |
When Marcus is followed into the room and the others volunteer to search, he has no qualms. If there are traps they will be the first ones into them, leaving him stronger to deal with any threats.
However, when the woman takes the note and pockets it without revealing its contents, he levels a heavy frown at her. What reason would she have to lie? Before he can confront her the voice is heard.
Marcus narrows his eyes at the woman who enters as if she controls the whole building.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
But he is so distracted by all the people moving around him that he can't get a read on her.
Marcus stares silent, eyes moving between those present. It was rare that he wasn't the most unpleasant man in the room, but the other heavily armored man was quickly outpacing him. After a significant pause, he moves to the chair. He places a hand on the chair back, then examines it for a moment before slowly sitting down and setting his frown on the woman with the deck.
Perception to inspect chair: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Hmm, you wish to remain secret but you call us to this location, when several of us are of interest to Gaedran Lamm. You are banking on us not being followed, or at the very least the collection of us being able to handle whatever fast stalker he could manage to send after us. But it means you're not afraid to be seen, just found.
Gaedran Lamm. He could tell from context, of course, that the man was the among the slimiest kind of filth that inhabits the city. But even so, he didn't even know exactly how he personally has been hurt by Gaedran; only the suspicion that he was somehow involved in his framing. He listens with rapt attention.
When the woman mentions the Korvosan Guard not being willing to help her, he audibly snorts with unsurprised disgust, but otherwise does not interrupt.
When she finishes he remains still, crossing his arms and frowning in thought.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Still Zellara eludes him. He does not care how the card got to him; he was far from a subtle man, although whoever managed to slip it into his gear without his notice was a skilled pickpocket. But there was more than one of those in the city.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
He silently listens to the conversation of the others, only reacting to raise an eyebrow when Krovax (his name given by Zellara) blatantly alludes to torture.
When Zellara begins the reading, he pauses for just slightly too long, but does take the card. A peacock? He knows little of the harrow, returning the card when it is asked for, frowning as he waits for an explanation.
He does understand what she says, and stalls the rolling of his eyes. The forge means much to him, for it parallels the forge of a battle itself. The rest seems so obvious: loss, patience, danger. But when he is accused of having some sort of loss of identity his frown deepens further into one of irritation. As the harrow continues he begins to dismiss it. Give a dozen fortunes in a vague enough sense so that they can be applied to any situation. What a crock of s@!~. But despite his skepticism the information can't help but stick on his mind, especially since it ends in betrayal.
But the theatrics are done, and the rest are prepared to move. He follows the others, still frowning and looking down as his mind chews over the information. Obviously the confrontation with Lamm would happen tonight; the group was largely too impatient to wait, and why bother?
He watches as their sudden new scouts go off to check out the area. What a wild, ragtag group. No doubt they are being manipulated into this. So many unaffiliated people all coming together for vengeance upon this Gaedran figure, and in such a violent manner? This was more than a coincidence. Something larger was at play.
But, for now, he would play along. There would be time to interrogate later. Clearly this was going to happen, with his presence or not, and he would rather be present to learn more information. Ignorance can be more dangerous than a fight.
As their scouts go ahead he turns to the other heavily armed man, leveling a frown at him. For the first time since they entered the house he speaks. "Calm down. You know as well as I do being that angry will lead to stupid decisions. The kind of decisions that get you killed. And if your temper puts me in danger, Lamm will be the least of your worries." He stares right at Krovax as he says this, and the words clearly outline this as a threat, but his tone and body language don't seem to come off as him trying to intimidate the other man. He is stating what seems to him is a fact, and is giving direction so that they can work together more efficiently, albeit with an iron fist with little to no finesse.
Krovax Draverian |
Krovax turns to look at the other man. His eyes seem to pierce through him rather than focus on him. ”You think this is anger? No. This is the focus of purpose.”
He turns his eyes back to the building as he adds ”You won’t want to be anywhere near me if I ever reach angry.”
Marcus the Dog |
Marcus meets Krovax's gaze without flinching. When he finishes Marcus snorts. "Bulshit." Then his gaze goes up to where the scouts left, as if he doesn't care to elaborate or bother arguing.
Kaliyah Tatarescu |
As Shi and Mudpie slink off into the shadows, Kali pulls an arrow out of her quiver and tries to keep a watchful eye for trouble or a signal from the forward scouts. When Marcus and Krovax keep arguing, she looks over at the and whispers ”Hey lovebirds, keep it down already.”
Though she says it to both of them, she only looks at Marcus. Her wall-slam from Krovax earlier still has her slightly intimidated by him.
Marcus the Dog |
The man appears to completely ignore Kaliyah, arms folded and staring at Lamm's hideout.
I don't believe Marcus has done anything physically, has he? Are you speaking about Krovax perhaps?
Also I don't believe my character has even bothered introducing himself yet :)

Now it really begins...
This is A1, in front of the building, fronting the street.
The reek of brine and the stink of week-dead fish hang thickly in the air here. The old double doors in the side of this weathered building are tightly closed, with a drooping signpost hanging above. The sign it once displayed is long gone, leaving behind only a single short length of rusted chain.
Note that the time of day is about 7:30 pm (after sunset), so the light outside is dim. However, the inside of the fishery is lit with yellow light (normal) which emits from between the slats on the boarded up windows (all are boarded up). There are few streetlights in this area, so while outside, treat it as dim light for all purposes (except when directly adjacent to a window, that 5 foot square is normal light). The fishery is perched atop a steep embankment, with most of the structure extending out over the Jeggare River on wooden pilings. The embankment drops 13 feet into the river below. The wooden doors throughout the fishery (including outside) are mottled with mold and grit, but appear to be solidly constructed. The fishery’s external walls extend almost all the way down to the river, leaving only a few feet of space between the lowest part of floor and the water.
Shi Ni |
Not seeing any guards outside apparently? Shi moves around the side of the building, skipping the main door and moves to check the side door to see if it is locked or trapped.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Assuming she doesn't find anything concerning she will sneak along the dock to check the back side of the building.
Stealth, City-Corruption: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 = 16
