DM, this has come up in other games I play as well. How do we determine who is holding what in their hands during Exploration mode? For example, Defend is the only activity that explicitly states what the character can hold (a shield), and it does so incompletely: Could one "Defend" with a shield and sword ready? What about Investigate? Perhaps some Recall checks would require the use of tools, but if not, could one do so whilst having their bastard sword ready two-handedly, for example? If so, do we simply state as much when declaring activities? Looking for a way to normalize expectations is all...

Exploration mode doesn't affect if your weapons are drawn, that's a character decision. The onyl time it'd matter is if the activity specifically means your hands are full with something else.
I will assume your weapons are out or in depending on the situation. So if you're exploring a dungeon - always out unless specified. If you're walking around town asking questions - always sheathed unless specified.
In this situation - grey area. Spooky orchard late at night but you are also making a peaceful house call. So that's up to you.

Whoops, my bad on the Trunt thing, its one of my characters in another game. Also, sorry, I'm awful at checking Discussion boards sometimes.

@GM: When we want to roll a secret check (like recall knowledge) should we tell you so that you can roll or can we spoiler it and then get the info from you?

GM SpiderBeard |

What I'll do is that if there's an obvious recall knowledge I'll pre-emptively roll it for you. Otherwise just tell me you wanna make the check.

Hey gang this may be my last post before I return from my trip. Not bringing an electronic internet device with me, but, if they got one where I'm going, and can catch a free moment, I will check back in, even as that is unlikely. Good luck with the Investigation! If you need a sample about how to run Laurel for combat, I am linking the Acid Wolf Battle here. Cheers!

Really enjoying the investigation bits that we've got going on here! Sorry I've been pretty sparse this week. My parents got married recently and there's been all sorts of wild family stuff going on.

GM SpiderBeard |

Sounds like fun wild family stuff I uh - hope.
And glad the investigation stuff is fun, it can often drag in PBP but I think we've got a good party for it.

Welcome back!
I'll be saving my reaction for specifically if Zurkha gets attacked again this round. For my Glimpse of Redemption it would be the enfeebled effect (something tells me I won't get much mileage out of stupefying a boar).

Zurkha |

I just want to see if I understand how ferocity works in this edition.
Because it's a reaction, if we can take this joker before his turn comes up again, that will take him down, won't it?

GM SpiderBeard |

Yes that's what happened.
You brought him to 0, but he used ferocity to cojme back. Laurel then killed him because he had used up his reaction. If Laurel had missed, he'd regain his reaction for the next round and could survive another killing blow.

Sorry guys, I’ve been sick the past couple days and the creative juices aren’t flowing.

.Nosh. |

So, apparently, I’ve been trying to fight strep for about 5 days with no antibiotics. That is no longer true. I’m hoping I feel closer to normal tomorrow and feel more like playing. Sorry again guys.

Perhaps we shared the "bug" across these forums?...
Oh man, I hope not, haha. I'm feeling much better this morning though, just exhausted.

I LIVE! Finally had to go to emerg to see a doctor who took one look at me and loaded me with antibiotics. On the mend now.

I just saw the "catting" typo I made in last night's post, and that is now a figurative burr that will be under my skin until the end of time.

Laurel "Desna" |

GM. Is "splitting the party" (4 ways: interviews, Phinnick, rosemary, mayor) advisable? I mean, it'd be efficient, even if we just had two groups each do 2 things?

GM SpiderBeard |

I pushed on the mayor's tour thing a bit but I'll say that it is possible you will run into combat encounters doing some of those. How intense they are and if they're dangerous with a split party is contextual.

Just as a heads up I'll be at PAX Unplugged this weekend so I won't be able to post from Friday 12/6 to Sunday 12/8.

I will be at a work related conference this weekend as well. May or may not post my general bet is no.
