Following Igor's lead and advice Jurmo moves forward taking cover behind a Tyrant Lizard Skeleton and launching a Magic Missle.
I assume you are following Igor's lead and targeting the blue foe.
Adding injury to immobility, Jurmo's projectile of force strikes one of the entangled vargouilles (blue)
Having seen its fellow outsider stuck in place and pay dearly for it, the second vargouilles refuses to make the same mistake. Instead, it opens its distended mouth to shriek.
The ears of each of the Pathfinders within the room begin to ache with pain.

How did you arrive at that conclusion? With the blue vargouilles 30' above the floor and the distance from the floor beneath it to the doorway of about 50', I arrive at a hypoteneuse distance of approximately 58.3 feet.

I don't think that Pythagoras exists in the Pathfinder universe. Distances for combat is abstracted but then so is everything else like hit points and levels. So it would be 25' down and then roughly 50' across. If you like I can roll the save but I do not think that it would be exactly RAW or PFS legal. ;)

Nah, GM has the right of it - diagonals work in 3-D too. A bit difficult to figure a diagonal on both planes, but if we do the horizontal diagonal first (3 squares, 20 ft), then the vertical diagonal along the wall (5 squares, 40 ft), that puts Igor just within range.

Web is a 20' radius spell. The origin point of the spell is 35' from the ground. How is it possible that the Vargouille (Red) does not have to fly through webs?

![]() |

Web creates sticky strands that must be anchored to points or they collapse in on themselves. That means that the results are almost always two-dimensional planes between the anchor points. In this instance, that meant that the web was anchored to the wall and ceiling and nothing else - the displays are too short according to the GM to be with 20 ft of a spread 35 ft high. From the opponent’s starting height, the entire triangle/plane of web at that “altitude” would fit within a 5 ft square - hence, when the GM says that the opponent would only need to make the single check, they are correct. Again.

![]() |

I think I understand what you are saying but I still do not see why the web spell could not form a right angled triangle off the wall from a starting height of 15' up to the ceiling of 50'. I am willing to let it go in game but it is my lack of understanding of the problem that is bothering me.

Sorry for the delay. Let's first address the web in the room.
Disagreements and misinterpretations happen on occasion. They are bound to crop up in most any game. I realize that they can be frustrating and cause delay. However, I want I don't want any player to walk away from a table that I have run feeling unfairly treated. Thank you all for being civil and understanding.

My ruling that the vargouille did not have to fly through squares of web was based on this post.
As a result, I treated the amount of web between the PCs and the vargouilles as less than 5 feet and, therefore, did not factor in any cover bonuses for attacks against the entangled vargouilles. Re-reading the post now, I see how my interpretation was incorrect and that it could have been intending to create a web that provided between 5 and 15 feet of webbing between the PCs and the vargouilles, which would provide partial cover to the vargouilles against the attacking PCs. I apologize for my oversight.
@ Igor - In an effort to correct this oversight, please pick one of the two options below:
1) Keep the original ruling and go on "as is". One vargouille dead. Another uninjured and free; or
2) Choose an amount of webbing between the PCs and the vargouille. I will then retroactively apply cover each of Drelluandast's attacks (the others were magic missiles, and describe the revised status of the vargouilles before going forward.

Door opens inward to the restroom and is hinged on the east side. However, please refrain from posting any additional actions until Igor has made a choice regarding the amount of webbing.

The intention was to create the maximum amount of webbing between the PCs and the Vargouilles while still allowing attacks to pass through with partial cover (so say 15' of web between characters and Vargouilles if possible). Igor is more than a little scared of these guys. :)
