”It wasn’t you - it was whatever evil force hides in this mist. You, um, might want to go outside the museum. There are some other employees we rescued as well!”
"This is all so awful. First, the mists came, then I saw Nigel carried away by a host of mad, slavering apes and monkeys. Then, I black out and when I come to, I find Sheg is--!" Overcome with grief and fear, the man flees the museum.
The other door in the east exhibit hall, leads to a simple room of unadorned stone is piled floor to ceiling with boxes and crates, allowing room for only a few small corridors between these towers of dusty, mothballed exhibits.
Only a single room left to explore in the museum. Please post any additional preparations before entering the last room.
Drelluandast |
”Um, you with the hat?” Drelluandast hesitates, not quite sure how to address the jester. ”If you, uh, get close to people, maybe this will help protect you.” He reaches out tentatively with a hand that glows with pale white light.
Casting protection from evil on Madcap, if accepted. Drelluandast can stand towards the back of the group when we open the door.
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor quickly whips up an extract of Heightened Awareness.
"Move to the last door but do not go in. I am going to leave for a moment to drink something. I will be back in under a minute."
Igor exits the museum momentarily to leave the evil mists. He then throws caution to the wind consuming his mutagen and then an extract of Heightened Awareness and Reduce Person. He tightens his scarf around his mouth and nose before returning into the mists and back to the business at hand.
You can never be too careful with this crazy mist.
His Heightened Awareness will trigger with his next initiative check. Hence the +16 modifier.
Jurmo Zanti |
Jurmo accepts the healing from his wand, and re-powers his Iron Skin.

"This is all so awful. First, the mists came, then I saw Nigel carried away by a host of mad, slavering apes and monkeys...."
"Can't be. I've been watching them since they got here. Oh! You meant--." As the man leaves she adds "And tell whomever you're nearly out of paper."
”Um, you with the hat?”
"It's a cap. And it's Madcap, Straw Hat."
Drelluandast hesitates, not quite sure how to address the jester. ”If you, uh, get close to people, maybe this will help protect you.” He reaches out tentatively with a hand that glows with pale white light.
"Ooh that's sweet, but I never get close to people, they'll only hurt you in the end."
Protection accepted, Thanks!
GM Redelia |
You move into the final museum room. A long hallway leads to this grand hall, wherein the Blakros Museum shows off its finest collections. Mock vines cling to the walls and hang from the fifty-foot-high domed ceiling, and huts of grass are strewn about the open area. At the center of this sprawling chamber, a miniature replica of a traditional Mwangi ziggurat rises out of the mist to a height of nearly twenty feet. At the top of the ziggurat, a rail-thin elven gentleman is strapped to an altar, his bare chest painted with strange sigils and monkey paw-shaped blots of paint.
You find a band of savage primates (escaped from all over Absalom) snarling, spitting, and cavorting madly about the ziggurat. Nearly 20 apes, baboons, and other monkeys revel here, but a terrifying howl shatters the revelry right after you arrive and the primates scatter into the mists, making way for their champion, a large ape named Da’Tunga.
I need an initiative roll for each of you, and also a perception roll that I can't explain right now. I'll let you roll initiative yourself since this is the big battle of the scenario and I need to wait for your perception checks anyway.
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor looks around with great curiosity.
Perception: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22
Initiative, expending Heightened Awareness: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25
With three wizards in the party we have tons of knowledge skills. If there is something we could know can you please add a spoiler button in your next post?

How low to the floor do the vines reach?

Madcap! |
Madcap and Igor notice a very small (technically diminutive) idol moving among all the apes rushing to get out of the way.
Like a walking statue trying to get out of the way of the dancing apes?
Madcap! |
And the question about the vines above.
"Hey Straw Hat, what's that?" Madcap says pointing out the dancing statue to Drelluandast.
Igor Ivantoe |
The diminutive wizard steps with care (5' step) out of the reach of the enormous gorilla. Concerned for the safety of Nigel and potential collateral damage he weaves a non-damaging spell.
5'step. He will cast Color Spray Will DC 16 at the gorilla.
I want to move this combat along and our characters have knowledge skills and we get to act first. I am posting this action for the sake of expediency. If he is immune to mind-affecting and my character knows it I will change the spell cast to Grease Reflex DC 18.
Drelluandast |
Drelluandast's arms begin to flail again as magical energy rushes around his tiny frame. With a yell, he releases it!
Fortitude vs DC 16: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Using Acadamae Graduate to cast summon monster 1 as a standard action, possibly becoming fatigued in the process.
With a gentle plop, a brightly-colored frog appears on top of the gorilla's head. "You with the hat! Get him while he's distracted!" Drelluandast yells.
A Summoned Monster |
"Croak!"
Frog Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Bite damage, Smite Evil: 1 + 1 = 2
If the attack hits, the gorilla needs to make a DC 10 Fortitude check or be poisoned (taking 1d2 poison damage each round until it makes the save). If the gorilla is not evil, the Smite damage will not apply and can be removed from the above damage roll.
Madcap! |
"Croak!"
"Yeah, what ever you do don't do that." Madcap says to the frog.
With a gentle plop, a brightly-colored frog appears on top of the gorilla's head. "You with the hat! Get him while he's distracted!" Drelluandast yells.
Madcap looks at Jurmo "You heard him! Chop chop! Go get 'em Non-Straw Hat Dude--Wait!" she holds Jurmo back (I am certain he was jumping in) "Is it a him? or did you mean the statue of little David running around over there?"
She takes a closer look at the ape shrugs and says "What the hells." She swings her flail upward between it's knees. There's a noise.
masterwork light flail v big gorilla-thing whose name somehow has popped into Madcap's head (Now Blind! Bonus): 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24 damage (Now with sneak attack!): 1d8 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (5) = 8
Igor Ivantoe |
@GM Redelia - Unless the Gorilla has some type of immunity that we do not know then he should be stunned as well for 3 (2+1) rounds. As per spell description
GM Redelia |
The giant ape finds itself overwhelmed by the spray of pretty colors.
A few of the normal apes fall unconscious from the spray.
Mad Cap's flail slams into the ape, and the frog's teeth sink in.
fort save, poison: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Jurmo is up.
The vines do not reach close enough to ground level for you to grasp them.
Jurmo Zanti |
Jurmo fires a shot into an ape. and re-loads his crossbow.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
??Confirm??: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Pierce: 1d8 ⇒ 8
GM Redelia |
I'm going to go ahead and bot Jurmo for this turn. He seems to be out of spells, and after seeing the results of color spray, it is reasonable he would move into melee range.
attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
A faint magical sparkle can be seen around the bitty idol, and the ape's skin seems to thicken.
The ape cannot act, and looks very badly hurt.
Your turns, team.
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor steps back and whips up an alchemical weapon and throws it at the idol.
"Finish the ape. I will deal with the idol."
Fire b.vs touch AC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
damage Fire: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
if 12 does not hit touch AC. 6 points of fire damage, 3 on a DC 15 Reflex save
drift: 1d8 ⇒ 1
GM Redelia |
Igor lobs a fire bomb at the idol. The bomb goes past the idol. To his surprise, all the smaller monkeys and apes milling about near the idol take no damage. The idol has a cool ability where it automatically grants fire resistance to every creature within 10 feet, but takes 1 point of damage for each creature that is thus protected. The idol is reduced to a little pile of ash. Took lots of damage from the monkeys, plus was vulnerable to fire...
GM Redelia |
OK, the big ape no longer has spell support, and is completely vulnerable to your attacks, and only 1 HP, so I'm calling this fight. No need to draw this out when the result is completely obvious and you won't even be using up any resources.
As you continue your assault, the large ape champion also falls over.
The smaller monkeys and apes seem to suddenly come to their senses and flee. With the destruction of the idol, the mists filling the museum vanish. The human on the altar also suddenly seems calmer, though still bound.
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor looks to see if it easy to reach the gentleman on the altar. If not he will whip up an extract of Monkey Fish (Climb speed of 10') and climb to free the man. He has a dagger to cut the bonds if necessary.
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor looks to the others to jump in as he is not an expert diplomat.
"We were glad to be able to help. Perhaps you might be willing to work with the Pathfinder society going forward if even in a small way?"
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor starts looking at his shoes and eyeing the others as speaking to people is not his strong suit.
"Sure, clearly he would not have sent us if he did not want to mend fences."
Madcap! |
Seeing her work done as the noisy museum thieves with various hats and pointy-chins are reunited with their curator(!?), Madcap, makes a stealthy exit into the night figuring it take all kinds.

Drelluandast |
”AAAAHH!”
Drelluandast drops the piece of chalk he’s holding as his chalkboard turns from blue-grey to bright yellow and orange. Clutching the board to his chest, the gnome waves a hasty farewell to the frog he was sketching before turning to the newcomer. ”Solemnia! You’re alright!” Drelluandast grabs the woman by the knees and hugs her tightly, not caring about the chalk dust smeared on his hands and her pants. ”We were so worried about you!”
Jurmo Zanti |
"I am ready to place this behind me.
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor nods.
"Yes. I guess it is time to get back."
