Azardra, the other Grandmother |
Azardra casts blindness on the giant!!
“You will fear the nice doggies!!!“
DC 20 fort or blinded.
Little Ben PBP |
Now there's an interesting dilemma. Does the blindness affect both heads or just the one?
Little Ben PBP |
Little buddy rushes around the creature and sets up a flank like he was trained to do (drawing an AoO) as Ben lurches forward and swings his enormous sword.
to hit great axe, heroism, flank: 1d20 + 13 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 13 + 2 + 2 = 18

damage: 5d6 + 17 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 4, 6) + 17 = 37
Little Buddy PBP |
After getting into position, Little Buddy nips at the giant.
to hit talon, greater magic fang: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27
damage, greater magic fang: 1d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 1 = 12
confirm: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 = 10
damage, greater magic fang: 1d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 = 10
Ulretha |
It almost seems unfair. Outnumbered, blinded, just doing his/their job. This is no test of Ulretha's might.
Yet, as Mighty Gorum always says, what has been started must be finished.
He steps up to the Ettin and slashes with Gorum's Thorn.
Gorum's Thorn (Haste): 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 13 + 1 = 23
Damage (Challenge): 2d6 + 8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 2) + 8 + 5 = 19
Everyone gets a +2 to hit him as long as I'm threatening him.
Lidia* |
Lidia curses under her breath at allowing herself to be struck by the very large giant. She hops back a step and lets loose a new barrage.
5' step away, then full attack. Improved Precise Shot, Deadly Aim, Rapid Shot, Many Shot, Point Blank Shot, Haste, Heroism, Challenge

Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste shrugs as her arrow goes wide and finds a good spot to lean, yawning and covering her mouth.
"You wanna just tell me when you've liquefied it?"
GM_Grandlounge |
Fort: 1d20 ⇒ 10 The ettin goes blind.
"Oh gees. The lights went out."
As soon as he says that an overwhelming number of attacks fell the creature.
"Good bye, it was nice to fight you. Now the lights have been turned out forever." he says as he is returned to his god.
Little Ben PBP |
Ben wipes the blood from his weapon, and armor, and... gives up on cleaning Little Buddy.
"Boy, that was short but violent, and those things have a lot of blood. He seemed like a nice enough fellow for a giant. I almost feel guilty."
Ulretha |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
When Ben makes his "short but violent" comment Ulretha points his sword at Thyste wordlessly.
He heads for the exit but waits for the others to examine the fallen body of the giant for valuables.
"Thyste has a point. One cannot form a following by slaying all their potential followers. We should give these giants the chance to kneel before their new rulers before bringing them to their knees through violence."
Lidia* |
"You could just join the Storm Tyrant's army. Then all the giants could be your friends." says Lidia sarcastically. She heads for the stairs.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste shrugs. "You lose a lot of nuance that way," she points out. "For example, I wouldn't assume that all humans would make good friends--but some of them, sure."
Lidia* |
"Most wouldn't." agrees Lidia in an undertone.
Little Ben PBP |
Ben fires up a detect magic and gives the bloody corpse a good examination, as well as the room, smiling or grimacing at the odd dialog.
Some day I could see us all coming to blows. Now THAT would be bloody.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
"Exactly my point. Like--a lot of these giants... some of them are eager to go around and do some stompin', but some of them--like this guy, here," she says, nuding Big Deady with her dory, "just kind of seem bored. Their hearts aren't in it. And if we start sowing seeds of 'Hey, maybe just because this guy says he'll kill us if we don't go stomp Trunau doesn't mean we have to follow him,' especially if we do seem strong enough to threaten him..."
She shrugs.
"I don't think we'll get most, but every giant pointing his club the other direction is two giants we don't have to fight, and maybe an extra pair of hands to help us rebuild whatever collateral damage happens along the way."
Lidia* |
Lidia stops, her arms hanging stiffly at her sides, and she stands as if frozen in place. It's clear she's trying to hold herself back. One hand holds her bow, and the other one clenches.
"Look... I don't want to have this argument again. We can still turn around and leave and forget this whole thing." she says in a voice that is trying to be calm.
Little Ben PBP |
"Hey, Lidia, it's OK. Sometimes it is just healthy to talk things out, even if it can be painful or repetitive, or both. I don't think she is criticizing you for nailing that ettin. She is just thinking out loud about whether we, as a group, should be making an extra effort to win them over. If anyone should feel criticized, it would be me as I called for us to come in weapons swinging, and I don't. This is a war, and good people die in a war, or good giants."
Lidia* |
Lidia untightens a little and glances back at first Ben, then the others.
She grumbles something under her breath and then starts up the stairs again.
Esmé suddenly lopes out of the shadows of the room after her and makes a sneak attack at her boots, nearly causing her to trip.
Ulretha |
"'We?'" Ulretha asks.
"You seem to think that you're making the decisions for us. Or that whatever decision you make is going to determine what the rest of us do," he continues.
"This task will be easier with all of us working toward it but if Gorum extends his mighty hand and snuffs out one of us in the next fight, the rest will continue.
"Keep that in mind the next time you want to give an ultimatum about what our options are. We cannot stop each other from doing violence without doing violence to each other. And that is also something you should keep in mind the next time we come across some humans who have something I want."
Little Ben PBP |
Ben rubs his forehead, his peacekeeping efforts totally undermined by the aggressive gnoll. With a sigh he continues his efforts to locate items of value.
GM_Grandlounge |
Ben, you see nothing magical as the team's old wounds surface.
Keep rping unless you are ready to move up the stairs.
Lidia* |
Lidia is moving up the stairs. She's really trying to keep from being dragged into an argument right now.
Little Ben PBP |
Ben sees Thyste looking longingly at his, and others, shoulders. By now he knows what that means.
"Go ahead and hop up. But try not to go to seep quite yet. Unless you would prefer to ride Little Buddy."
Once she assumes the position he hurries to catch up with the others.
GM_Grandlounge |
Proceeding up the stairs you are met with a set of double doors behind which you hear the raspy, drawn-out hissing sounds of vultures but the would are too loud to be vultures.
Knowledge arcana, please.
Little Ben PBP |
kn arcana untrained: 1d20 ⇒ 9
"Whatever that is, doesn't sound like giants".
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
kn arcana : 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20
What could that be??
GM_Grandlounge |
You realize there are many Rukhs in there though with a little more concentration you realize they are babies. At that moment you hear a giant cracking a whip.
Lidia* |
Once Azardra shares her interpretation of the strange sounds coming from next door (and what "rukhs" are), Lidia nods.
"Ok, so the rukhs will likely be flying around in there. I'll try and focus on them. It sounds like they have some kind of giant keeper who will be the main obstacle."
"Are we ready to move in?"
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
“Yes! But I’ll only interfere if necessary!“
Little Ben PBP |
Ben shrugs, "I'm ready as I will be. Let's do this.

Azardra, the other Grandmother |
No haste. And I only have 1 3rd level spell remaining.
Little Ben PBP |
I meant gone as in expired.

Lidia sends a full volley of arrows at the nearest rukh.
Full attack on northwest rukh, move clockwise as they fall. Point Blank, Precise Shot, Deadly Aim, Rapid Shot, Many Shot, Heroism. Rukhs should be flat-footed.

the Haste is gone, right? Yes it would have expired. Though if in the future you say we are rushing to keep haste I'm happy to accommodate that.
GM_Grandlounge |
Welcome back. If you had a long weekend I hope you enjoyed it.
Lidia is easily able to kill one of the young birds and wound another (blue). They attempt to return the violence.
Vs Lidia
Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 91d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

So that's 87 points of damage overall? Ouch!
As the cyclops yanks his axe from Lidia's thorax, blood pours and sprays from the wound and the girl begins to cough up gore. It is all she can do to stagger half-dead from the fight...

Thyste Fox-Tailed |
I think 77, actually!
Thyste's eyes open wide as the cyclops attacks Lidia.
"[SWEARING]" yelled the foxling, oh-so-ready to take a leisurely few potshots at the rukhs above before a personal stake in the matter was suddenly established.
Targeted Strike: Cyclops Legs!: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26
