The last hill giant falls while attempting to run away to alert others.
Lidia* |
Lidia moves over to check the bodies of the giants and ogres for anything of interest or value.
Little Ben PBP |
Ben positions himself on the outskirts, essentially taking up guard duty as the bodies are looted, though he keeps an eye on them to see if they still have that penchant for confiscating items for personal use on the sly. Not that he minds, but he is curious.
"Wow this is a large room, though in this form, it does not seem quite so large. Still, you can tell that this place was built for giants"
Lidia* |
Lidia gives a cursory look up and about at the spacious hall.
"Good for yelling. Nice and echoey." she observes.
Ulretha |
"I'm starting to think I need to switch to gimmick arrows," admits Thyste.
"Boxing glove, arrow?"
Ulretha jumps in on the looting, as well. If the giants had deserved to keep their valuables, they wouldn't have died.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste says something filthy in response about giants, fist-shaped objects, and distance.
Back on the subject at hand...
"See, this wouldn't be so bad a place to live, if everyone got along," she says. "The food would be enormous, plenty of seating for everybody, and I'd only need... oh, what's that spell that makes you loud? Anyway, I'd need one of those for everyone to hear my routine, but it's workable. Definitely workable."
Lidia* |
"It smells like a fish and dung sandwich in here." says Lidia as a counterpoint. "I can hardly breathe."
Lidia* |
"You know, I literally live in caves and before that I lived in an orc's dungeon, and this still feels like a step down." answers Lidia in what is probably intended as a joking manner.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
"Funny you should say that," says Thyste with a wry grin. "You're the one who's going to b--wait."
She frowns, and looks at Ulretha.
Then at Ben.
Then Azardra.
"Oh my God, the only one I would trust to know how to clean is Granny, and I'd be stressing the entire time. What if she broke a hip?"
Little Ben PBP |
"Yea, well it is just a fantasy. You can imagine that you attract a bunch of naked maids. Of all sizes if you prefer. As for me, my fantasies involve peace and quiet, with sporadic parties and friends, and lots of travelling."
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
"See, generally speaking, in my fantasies, I'm the maid."
"I'm just, y'know, really bad at it, and am quickly reassigned to lapfox duty."
"....and then someone else is the maid, I guess, I don't know, I never think it out that far."
GM_Grandlounge |
Digging through the belongings you find about 500GP of mundane giant gear (axes, clubs hide etc.) One item does stick out to you.
It is a magical belt. I will need a spellcraft check on this one as it seems rather powerful.
Little Ben PBP |
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Ben is not our best bet. Hopefully Grandma can remember some stuff.
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
Azardra looks around at the others and nods.
"Powerful! I can already feel it!"
She casts detect magic and focuses on the belt.
spellcraft, heroism, trance: 1d20 + 19 + 20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 19 + 20 + 2 = 51
Little Ben PBP |
Oh yea! All you need is the identify spell and you could have a 61. I don't think I have ever seen a 61. Mice!
Ulretha |
"Yes, many muscular naked maids of all sizes whose devotion to me is only exceeded by their devotion to Gorum! We would...worship for hours on end!" Ulretha declares.
Speaking of belts...I never answered but he'll take the belt that Little Ben offered up previously. I forget exactly what it does but I remember it's something that will make Ulretha stronger.
Little Ben PBP |
The desciption of the victor's belt is here
Lidia* |
Lidia gives a last look around, then heads for the double doors west of the entrance they came through.
"We need to keep moving." she says grimly.
GM_Grandlounge |
The belt is the earth elemental belt.
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wondrous-items/a-b/belt-earth-elementa l/
As the team continues to sweep the chapel they go...
Where to next?
Little Ben PBP |
Now THAT's a nice belt. As for where we are headed check out Lidia's post just prior to yours.
"Elemental form?! That would be interesting. My focus as a druid has been on other shapes and I've always wondered what it would be like to be an elemental."
Ben snags the belt and dons it.
Lidia* |
Where to next?
Lidia moved to the door leading toward Z11
GM_Grandlounge |
Lidia the way seems safe so you proceed through both sets of doors.
A huge stone bench carved with strings of runes runs along the circumference of this circular chamber. A narrow ledge along the back of the bench holds several dozen stone busts of sternlooking giants. To the southeast, a high-backed granite throne sits atop small platform overlooking the room. To the west and northwest, six tall stained-glass windows covered with iron grates line the wall. The glass is nearly opaque from centuries of dusty mountain winds. Numerous panes have cracked or blown out completely; the holes have been sloppily patched with wads of clay and dung. A number of tree trunks are propped against the bench above large piles of wood shavings—each is in the process of being reshaped and bound into an iron banded club. Open crates packed with tools, rope, wood, chunks of coal and iron ore, and other objects are piled everywhere throughout the room. Dozens of broken or rusted weapons and shields have been haphazardly thrown into a scrap pile nearby. Near the throne, several human corpses have been stacked liked cordwood.
Lidia* |
Lidia looks around at the haphazard piles of weapons and materials.
"Well, it looks like they were getting a head start on the weapons they planned to forge on that Altar once they got the magic hammer." she says. "Too bad for them it's not gonna happen."
Then she spots the bodies stacked near the throne. She exhales deeply and glances back at the mad old woman warily.
Esmé darts suddenly into the large chamber in pursuit of a mouse and chases it briskly to a pile of wood and dung.
Little Ben PBP |
Nodding his head in agreement to Lidia's assessment and conclusion, Ben adds his own.
"Um hmmm. Probably mostly junk in here, but then again we found this nice belt so let's give it a good look over."
Ben casts a detect poison and starts searching the room, making the assumption that granny will do the checks for magic.
Ulretha |
"The first duty the naked maids will perform will be cleaning and organizing this room...well...maybe the second," Ulretha says to Thyste.
He halfheartedly searches the room. There is no glory in taking things from a storage closet but Ben is right. These giants are obviously sloppy and might have left something useful behind.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Needless to say, he is hardly disturbed by the pile of corpses though he does examine them to see if they are being seasoned or ripened for consumption.
Lidia* |
"The first duty the naked maids will perform will be cleaning and organizing this room...well...maybe the second," Ulretha says to Thyste.
Lidia clenches her teeth and spares a glare for Ulretha, but says nothing.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
"Oh, absolutely not. You've gotta fully automate your luxury space communism before you give yourself over to perpetual excess-- that's just math," shrugs Thyste.
She says something filthy about "empty calories."
GM_Grandlounge |
The pile of human corpses contains the bodies of eight soldiers. Their
tabards bear the image of a white tree on a green field.
A suit of +2 giant-defiant splint mail, three chain shirts, and three suits of scale mail can be salvaged from the bodies.
It will take 5 minutes to do a quick check of the room that will require a Perception check. It will take 10 minutes to fully check the room which will allow you to effectively take twenty for the whole room. Please indicate your chosen searching style you are using and roll a d6 as well to determine what you find.
Lidia* |
Let's not waste that Heroism spell. We need to keep moving. We can do careful searches once we've cleared the boss and his dragon.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Know 'bility: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
I was gonna be real sad if this didn't work the one time it came up ;P
"Nirmathi," Thyste says, tapping the symbol on one of the fallen's tabards. "Kind of considered settling down there some day."
She thinks a minute, and frowns. "No idea when retirement age is for someone like me, though. Is it closer to two hundred, or like... ten? Am I a crone?"
Little Ben PBP |
"Wait, didn't you say you wanted to settle down in Trunau? Somehow I don't think you are the settling type. Then again, age changes people so 200, 10, whenever you are ready. Anyone want that armor. I sure don't; all that metal is anathema."
Quick check is fine with me until we fight the boss. OOC, unless you have spells that will elapse, which I do at lease, PFS scenarios rarely penalize you for taking time. So I vote for making it quick.
Ulretha |
"Oh yes. Retirement. Little Thyste sitting in some sort of chair that rocks knitting while sipping herbal tea. I can just see it now," Ulretha comments.
"I think we all know that the most likely outcome for us all is to be squished by a giant. And if it doesn't happen to you, your most likely end will come at the hands of a jealous lover, not old age."
He looks at the armor then looks down at the set he's wearing. "I will claim it, though not at the moment. There will be time enough to properly claim spoils when the giants are dead."
He drags the corpse wearing the armor out of the pile so it will be easy to access later. Then, has to fight the Pack off of it to keep them from eating the body.
Lidia* |
"Nirmathi," Thyste says, tapping the symbol on one of the fallen's tabards. "Kind of considered settling down there some day."
Lidia perks up curiously at this.
"Nirmathi? Nirmathas is well south of here. Across a big river." she says. "What are they doing here, in a giant god's cathedral?"
"And for that matter, why are the giants saving their corpses?"
She shakes her head and moves off to the door at the southern side of the room.
"Come on, let's keep moving. We'll have time for riddles later."
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
"You have to consider multiple options!" Thyste complains. "Trunau, Nirmathas, or just some place with a really nice tree, a river, and a view. It's really more about the company, when you get right down to it."
"Hey, no need to my lovers to get jealous. I have two hands. And feet. And a tail. Excellent spot for scritching, right between the ears. Among other things. Besides, we can all take turns playing the rocking chair."
"Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe snacks later? Maybe to sell their fancy stuff to fund, I dunno, giant clubs?"
Little Ben PBP |
"Some animals actually let their food rot for a while to make it more tender and tasty. Not something I'm going to worry about. Shall we?"
Ben tilts his head and waves his hands towards the big doors to the south before headed over there and looking it over for traps and listening for sounds on the other side.
perception, heroism: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 2 = 16
GM_Grandlounge |
The quick looks around the room do not reveal anything of use, but you note to return after the final battle.
1d20 ⇒ 18
Ben, there is something BIG behind the door. Bigger than any giant so far.
Little Ben PBP |
"Shhh!" Ben points at the door and makes the age old finger to the lips sign of silence.
"Something is making a LOT of noise in there! Could be a dragon or a very, very large giant. When we open this door, be ready for a doozy of a battle. Ulretha, you want to take point on this one?"
Lidia* |
Lidia readies her bow and waits for someone else to open the door.
Ulretha |
Ulretha gives Ben a look and quirks an eyebrow as though questioning the druid's sanity for even asking.
Then, he casts a spell (Shield of Faith) and heads for the door.
GM_Grandlounge |
Stomping around behind the door a huge giant, nearly 8 feat taller than anyone you have seen so far is grumbling to him self. "I should be the champion but no give me guard duty in tiny room." When he see you he says with little enthusiasm "You shall not pass this way is guarded by the great giant giant ettin, the huge."
