Little Ben PBP |

survival: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
Ben has no clue about the statues, gods being a jumble of aspects and visages that make little sense to him. Why every culture has to have it's own version of a god or goddess of this or that, he doesn't know. But there you have it. Dwarf gods.
He joins the others in the final room and holds back as Kioshi and Ulretha compete to see who can get through the door first, though he finds it a tight fit in his oversized troll form.
"I don't think they are interested in being careful. Say, for an abandoned tomb, have you noticed that there is a slew of relatively recent tracks through the dust, though most of them seem to be from the same person."
Footprint tracks as in dwarf sized humanoid?
"Thyse, if you really want a ride you are welocme to hop aboard the me."

"I don't think they are interested in being careful. Say, for an abandoned tomb, have you noticed that there is a slew of relatively recent tracks through the dust, though most of them seem to be from the same person."
"I'm telling ya, that murderer is loose in here. Look at the way he's defacing everything, just for spite. But the foot prints are encouraging. At least it's not a ghost." says Lidia, still looking around warily.

Thyste Fox-Tailed |

Thyste yawns. "All great Dwarven mysteries are solved by figuring out who hated who and whose mother-in-law was the goddess of bringing awful potato salad to the Dwarf God family reunions and whose long-lost brother was kicked out of the family for holding a grudge against the wrong ancient petty insult." She affects a Dwarvish accent and makes little rocking motions. "'Ohohoho, Borgrir was friends with the Stone-Gropers, even though Fazmir the Rockwiper, who founded the Stone-Groper clan, once saw that our great-great-ancestor, the guy who invented Underground Sundials, had spinach in his teeth and didn't say anything. Obviously we had to toss old Borgrir into a pit with six bulettes for that one, but his wife got mad at our clan for some reason and nothing is ever our fault.'"
She waves off Ben. "I don't ride guys, though, thanks. ...Though it's hard to tell with hyenas," she says, raising an eyebrow at Fazingar.

![]() |

"Yeah...ghosts are the worst," Ulretha agrees with Lidia, giving a not so subtle roll of his head in Blix's direction.
"So, we're going to be on the look out for the ancient demon murderer. It doesn't change much. Did anyone think we were going to stride in here, load up on powerful weapons and walk out without any trouble? I'd just as soon finish off the nut job who's still holding a grudge as some mechanical or undead mindless tomb guardian. So long as I can cut it, I don't care what it is.
"Sounds right to me," he says with a shrug as Thyste provides her in depth knowledge of Dwarven religion and culture.
Then he grins. "I'd tell you to try riding Onnikka if you feel tough enough, but I like your face too much to watch it get ripped off."

Thyste Fox-Tailed |

Thyste considers it for a moment, then two. Then...
"Eh, why not? Hold up a second, folks."
She rubs her hands together for a moment, clears her throat, and sets her body language; lower, but not tense, tail raised inquisitively and ears pointed forward at Onnikka.
And then she begins to... giggle.
Wild Empathy: 1d20 + 4 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 7 = 23
It's actually kind of amazing how good she is at putting her own spin on the "language" that the hyenas use to communicate with each other.
Whether that's enough for the notoriously-grouchy Onnikka, though...

Ulretha's Pack |

The head hyena ignores Thyste a first. Pointedly. She sits and looks away from the little creature that is making a fool of itself.
But the first sound makes her glance over involuntarily. Only for a few moments before disdainfully looking away.
She doesn't seem able to help herself, however and keeps glancing back.
Then, she lets out a resigned huff and lays down on the floor, turned away from Thyste.

![]() |

"By Gorum's Gangrenous Goiter!" Ulretha exclaims as Thyste manages to tame the beast.
"Falling for a pretty face. I've lost all respect for you. You ought to be ashamed," he chides her.
Apparently, his face is not pretty enough as he gets a snarl and a snap for his troubles.

Thyste Fox-Tailed |

The foxling moves over to the surly grumpus, scritching her flank. She chuckles and grins up at Ulretha. "Pretty soon, she'll be one of those fat, domesticated house hyenas~" she teases.

Little Ben PBP |

Ben just shakes his head subtly as the others pour on the silliness. But that final house hyena produces a guffaw from Ben. "I think Little Buddy would love that idea."

GM_Grandlounge |
Thanks Ulretha I try to hide things when I can.
Ben, they see dwarf-sized. Could be a thicc human or a stumpy half orc but given the location...
Blix raises an incredulous eyebrow at Ulretha's comment. "I will remember that when I'm counting lesser restoration spells at the end of the day."
How are you proceeding? Any prep, scouting etc.

Lidia looks at the secret door hanging ajar and her eyes narrow a little. She moves next to Ulmo then murmurs to him: "I'm going to check on Hildy."
Then she sets off, creeping quietly along the walls for a last look around before going through the new panel.
Making the circuit A8->A6->A5->A7 and back to A8. She will make sure Hildy is ok, guarding the gateway into the tomb. If the others go through the new door in the meantime, that's fine, Lidia will follow as she can.

Hildy is nervously watching the door. "You are back. Everything going alright then?"
Lidia rejoins the group to find that Ben has checked to the door and found it safe and Ulretha does not care and is walking through it.
Two wide alcoves flank the eastern portion of this room, the floor of which is inlaid with the symbol of an ornate warhammer. Each alcove contains a large iron brazier and is crammed with a variety of baubles and trinkets. Beyond the alcoves, the chamber narrows and a flight of wide steps climb to a vaulted recess. A great stone sarcophagus, its lid pushed to one side, lies in this space beneath a large translucent panel in the ceiling above. A smaller alcove stands on either side of the stone coffin. The northern alcove holds a five-foot-tall iron cage, its bars bent and twisted out of shape, while the southern alcove contains an elaborate iron candelabra covered with drippings of dried purple and red wax, which holds dozens of melted candle stubs.
A red-headed dwarf faces you down with a blood-thirsty look in his eye.
Thase that did not get a chance to post today can cast a buff before Ulretha leaves the room and you have to chase after. Tomorrow Initiative.

Ben will cast Bull's Strength on Little Buddy in preparation.

Little Ben PBP |

Ben eyes the dwarf suspiciously. Something is not right here. It seems an awful look like it is trying to lead them into a trap. Perhaps the coffin? Since he is unable to reach the fellow anyway, Ben opts to cast a spell instead and starts an enlarge person spell.
He curiously waits to see if the dwarf opens the coffin and lets loose some kind of mischief.
I'm probably over-thinking this

"Yeah, Kioshi, because all dwarves are good and can be talked too. They're also all drunks who are good at working metal," Ulretha snarls at the witch.

Kioshi delays and is confused.
“Can we just talk?! I mean this is a dwarf, right?“

Assault him, Umlo!

Little Ben PBP |

Assault him, Umlo!
He already did. Thyste has a turn as does some of the pack. To get to him they all have to run past Stealhand. I have a feeling that he is going to open the coffin and release something nasty if he is not stopped. Which is why I decided the bast place for Little Buddy to flank from was on top of the lid. Oh, and Kioshi the Timid is on delay.

GM_Grandlounge |
Kioshi, he is a dwarf fighter and broken soul (feel free to look up the template). He is also immortal as far as age goes and that seems to be the blessing of a dark god.

Thyste Fox-Tailed |

Thyste makes a "glk" sound as she's speared pretty handily; given her small size, even catching just the side of the spear puts her in danger of an amputation.
Still, she knows how spear combat works: spear harder!
AoO to enter opponent's square: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (12) + 29 = 41
Just gonna... assume that beats CMD. If you want me to roll to avoid AoO as well, I can!
She ducks down and in, buckler raised in just such a way that she can shove any incoming spears off-course. As soon as she reaches him, she lashes out!
Dory: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 28
Dory Damage: 1d4 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
And I think it's been implied that I have a second turn? If so...

Dory Damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

She scores a nice, meaty, squelching hit, probably, but her next attempt fails to penetrate due to all the dwarf guts making her dory slippery.

Little Ben PBP |

Ben's spell goes off and the dinosaur grows and grows and grows until half of him spills off of the coffin. Ben steps forward, also a large imposing figure, and swings his axe in a downward arc, trying to avoid hitting everyone between him and the persistent dwarf.

The man falls and with the additional hits from Ben and Buddy the man eventually stops regenerating.
What would you like to do?

![]() |

Lidia runs up and kicks the spear away from the dwarf's hand, then stands over him for a good solid minute, pointing her bow down at him, just in case.
"All those centuries, rattling around down here, wallowing in his hate and vengeance. He should thank us for ending his miserable existence." She shakes her head. "HOW was he even still alive? How long do dwarves live? Where did he get food?"

![]() |

Ulretha does not like things that regenerate. He likes things that he hurts to stay hurt. So, once the dwarf falls, he gives him another good chop...just to be sure.
"Hate is powerful. Magic is powerful. I'd guess a combination of the two is what was driving him," Ulretha replies to Lidia.
He sheaths Gorum's Thorn then squats down next to the body and starts to check it for valuables, paying particular attention to that fancy metal hand he has. Maybe it can be melted down...or just sold as is...once it gets removed.

![]() |

Kioshi raises an eyebrow after seeing this display of martial prowess.
"I want to congratulate you but calling me a witch does not help!" he says folding his arms.
He takes out his booklet and looks at Ulretha and then at Ben and Lidia. He tries to not look at Thyste.
"You might want to know that this dwarf was a broken soul and was bound to a dark god and was immortal before you killed him. A broken soul is torment and pain made manifest. Tortured to the extremes of both physical and mental endurance, and then taken beyond those barriers, a broken soul gains extraordinary reserves of fortitude and resilience as well as the ability to inflict a measure of its own terrible suffering on others. So I am quite astounded that you could kill him so easily!" he says making notes.

![]() |

Lidia moves to check the body in the tomb.

Thyste Fox-Tailed |

Thyste wiggles her dory around a little bit to loosen it before she pulls it out of the broken soul's eye socket.
"If there's one thing we've gotten good at lately," she says, her ring's magic wearing off as she schloomps back to her full-- albeit small-- height, "it's murdering things. But you have a point."
She grins and leans on her dory, then swears and wipes at the gore that's now smeared across her shoulder.
Re-composing herself, she resumes her grin:
"You're not cool enough to be a witch."

Thyste Fox-Tailed |

Thyste sticks her tongue between her teeth and winks. "Still, good info. Good to know that the dude we killed was sad enough to get superpowers from it."
She thinks a moment, then: "Lidia's right. We probably were doing him a service."

Little Ben PBP |

Ben blinks a few times.
"It sure is a strange world. I wonder if there are places where the dead stay dead. That sure would be nice."
Apart from making sure the body does not reassemble itself, Ben leaves the corpse to the others. Shooing Little Buddy off the coffin thing, he tries to see if he can see inside, moving the lid if necessary.
