Silly question. Firbolgs are listed as medium (as opposed to large). Are you okay with them?
Firblogs are fine.
This might be splitting hairs but is this adventure a wild ocean seafaring romp or mostly coastal swamp setting.
This specific part of the adventure is more landlocked. Later parts may venture out into the waters, should things get that far.

Orym Rednose |

Peace to you,
I am Orym called the Rednose. I am Gnomezrule's submission. A reskinned character from a failed campaign. He is from the Dreadwood, visiting Saltmarsh to return a baby he found living in the marshes.
@DM Scallywag the baby was just a device to get a firbolg swamp ranger into a human town. If it is a complication to things we can assume I have recently delievered it to an appropriate place. If it is an interesting piece of rp baggage that would be interesting to try and find a place for the baby to go. That's fine too. Literally I was just trying to figure how to get a Firbold into civilization and the plot of Willow entered my head.

Hello,
this is HayatoKens submission.
Tomoe Gozen is a human pirate monk, ashore in Saltmarsh currently, but from the far corners of the world.
She aspires to sail her own ship one day, thinks the ship is most important - more important than the crew - , can have amazingly foul language, likes jobs well done - especially when others do it and has the habit to pocket loose coins and other stuff she comes around.
Yet she is a really loyal companion and trustworthy, believing in fair share.

DM Aumakua |

Here are my rolls.
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 1) = 9 8
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 5) = 15 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 5) = 15 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 6) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 6) = 18 16
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 6) = 15 13
8, 14, 13, 12, 16, 13
I'll be making a halfling rogue with the Marine bkgd. It is my idea to make her a swashbuckler as she advances.
Will write the character sheet and post it by tomorrow.

Hyrin is typical Suloise barbarian specimen. Tall, well muscled but lean, fair of skin and hair, with piercing gray eyes. Hyrin was a warrior who raided others to support his family and clan. He was also a celebrated wrestler and brawler, appropriate to a worshipper of Kord.
One day a red sailed ship came to trade. They flattered Hyrin outrageously and plied him with strong drinks... until he passed out. He awoke in chains and far at sea and bound for the slave docks.
If it hadn't been for Keoish ship that intercepted the Sea Princes slaving vessel Hyrin may have ended up a slave in a mine or a fighting pit. He owes his life and freedom to Eliander Fireborn and the marines Tom and Will Stoutly.
Hyrin is currently in Saltmarsh, awaiting a chance to repay his debt...
-Additional-
No one knows what the ancient homeland of the Suel was like. It was destroyed by the Rain of Colorless Fire turning it into the desert called the Sea of Dust. They say there is treasure of the ancient cities of the Suel there, but the climate is not very nice.
These are the fairest skinned of all the races of the Flanaess, almost being albino. Their eyes can be from pale blue and violet through deep blue and sometimes gray. Their hair ranges in the strawberry blondes, yellows and platinum. The barbarians to the north, Ice, Frost and Snow are examples of perfect Suel blood. They are also located in the Duchy of Urnst, islands off the coast of the Flannaess, and the Scarlet Brotherhood on the Tilvanot Peninsula.
The Suel have strong family ties as well as a strong bond for ancestral heritage. They are pale-skinned, and tend toward blue eyes and blond, white or red hair. They are short tempered and opinionated to the point that there is a popular saying the Flanaess that says, “when all the Suloise have left the table,” meaning nothing will get accomplished until everyone has an opened mind with the matter at hand.
In their heyday, the Suel Empire was decadent and cruel. The Imperium's destruction has not entirely removed this trait or the legacy of their old culture, but only a relatively small number of Suel are as conniving as their ancestors. The majority of Suel people have a reputation for being proud, opinionated, selfish, and blunt but only the elitist Scarlet Brotherhood truly maintain themselves as members of the old ways. In general, Suel tend to lean towards mental pursuits, especially magic, and Suel wizards often become very powerful.
-God-
Kord is the Suel god of Athletics, Sports, Storms, Brawling, Strength, and Courage. His symbol is an eight-pointed star composed of spears and maces. Kord is depicted as a hugely muscular man with a red beard and long red hair. He wears a fighting girdle made from a red dragon's hide, gauntlets from a white dragon's hide, and boots from a blue dragon's hide. He wields the greatsword Kelmar in battle. Kord is sometimes depicted by his urbanized faithful as a more civilized athlete or wrestler. He is the son of Phaulkon and Syrul, and the grandson of Lendor. He is a foe of dragonkind, especially lawful evil dragons. Kord's favorite heralds are titans. His allies include eladrin and huge earth elementals. Kord is the most popular of Suel deities, and his followers are found throughout the Barbarian States of the Thillonrian Peninsula, northern Ulek, Keoland, Almor, Aerdy, Hepmonaland, the Amedio Jungle, Lendore Isle, and in the Bandit Kingdom city of Alhaster.
Equipment Greatsword, Handaxe, Handaxe, Javelin, Javelin, Javelin, Javelin, Staff, backpack, bedroll, clothes, traveler's, hunting trap, mess kit, rations (10), rope, hempen (50 feet), tinderbox, torch (10), waterskin, 10 gp

Livia Taviskin |

Alright, full character write-up is complete.
The past several years found her in exploring the Hoolmarsh, though folks in and around the area repeatedly warned Caladwhen of such ventures. Initially, her travels into the Hoolmarshes proved interesting, though challenging. Unfortunately, one of her treks into marshes led to an unfortunate encounter with a young black dragon, who wounded her badly before retreating marsh. By her luck, some Lizardfolk in the area had been hunting the dragon, and took pity on her uncharacteristically on the advice of one of the Shaman among them. The Lizardfolk took Caladwhen in, and under the care of the old Shaman, Caladwhen was nursed back to health. In her fevered state while recouping, she envisioned a great flood, one that might have catastrophic impact on the coastal communities in the Saltmarsh area.
After being nursed to health, the Lizardfolk Shaman set Caladwhen on her way. She returned to Saltmarsh, determined to warn others of her vision, though patently aware the such soothsayers are often treated as mad.

Tessa Tanglerope |

Here is DM Aumakua's submission.
Halfling rogue.
Tessa Tanglerope stands just at 3 and a half feet. While she is rather short she is quite capable when she needs to be heard or seen. Dressed in a standard uniform of leather breeches and a short sleeved leather jacket with the Keoland coat-of-arms symbol of the lion stitched on the upper left shoulder. Under her leather jacket she wears a fitted pristine white colarless blouse with buttoned sleeves that end just before her elbows.
She carries two sheathed short blades on her right side and out of plain sight strapped to her back are two daggers – one holding great sentimental as it belonged to her mentor and old friend Zairn Blacktoe whose sacrifice bought her freedom.
Her sun kissed complexion marries well with the crimson dyed short cropped haircut that she is constantly maintaining. While her hairstyle often causes someone to mistake her for having a fiery temperament she is actually very cerebral and not one that lets her emotions get the best of her. She can often be seen studying a crowd whether from a shadowy corner or right in the middle of it depending on what the situation calls for. While early in her life she was prone to outbursts and charging into a situation that naivete and immaturity ended the day she stopped being Talya Tanglevine.
Tessa is an over confidant halfling willing to take risks that many others might not. She wants to stand out from the crowd but only when it suits her.
She is an observer. Trying her best to understand a situation before she dives in head first. When she speaks it is done with an air confidence and can sometimes come off as being stern.
She is big on being honest with those she associates with and it has cost her a dozen friendships, but her motto is if you ask for her opinion she will give it to you.
Will good with her fingers at unlocking chests and other containers she conscience to be sure that whatever she is taking from another someone who stole from another.
In her younger days before becoming joining up with the Keoish navy she found herself wanting more out of life. She had been born the fourth child of six siblings expected to live out her life in a small village just outside of Greyhawk. She waited her time amassing a paltry amount of coins - which was a fortune to her at the time - and upon her seventeenth name day wrote a curt letter to her siblings and a nicer one to her mother and father indicating that she was going to make a name for herself.
Sneaking her way onto a caravan bound for the great city of Greyhawk she soon she found herself with not even two copper bits to rub together swindled out of her entire saving in a series gambling games. Instead of trying her hand at pilfering which did cross her mind she found herself working in a tavern as a cook's assistant this only meant that she ended up cleaning all pots and constantly mopping the floors of the rat infested kitchen.
Looking to rid herself of her current predicament she did so by the only means she knew available, gambling. Borrowing from a legitimate lender she soon found herself with no money to pay back the loan. This resulted with the lender pressing Tayla into service upon the Destiny's Wave.
She would serve upon this vessel for two years as a cooking steward until it was attacked at sea by pirates. Tayla would escape along with the first mate, but her friend Zairn would die saving her and the First mate.
Somehow, Tayla was able to keep herself and the First mate alive long enough to be rescued and returned to Gradsul. As a reward she was freed from her contract, but instead of returning home Tayla took to joining the Royal navy. In doing so she created a new identity for herself, Tessa Tanglerope.

You can use D&D Beyond to make characters, but if you don't have the buy-ins, then you are limited to what is in the SRD (which is, admittedly, quite a bit). You can also use OrcPub. but you run into the same SRD problem. If you don't mind doing the calculations yourself, you can find some good online sheets at Myth-Weavers.
The SRD has all the core races and classes, and most (but not all) spells, but only one background (Acolyte). I don't know about feats.

Hi folks. Work’s been keeping me really busy this week, so I’ll keep recruiting open till Friday night, like 11 pm or Midnight EDT.
II haven’t yet taken a count of the submissions but it looks to be enough that I may need to do some random number assignments to keep things fair since there’s only six slots.

Mind if I re-submit? Seems melee heavy (depends on the game, that could be a good thing) so I can make something else if that appeals. Mind you I do like my Barbarian submission ;)

If anybody's missing who already posted, sound off please.
So as I previously said, to keep this fair and because of the large number of submissions, I'm going to let fate decide your ... er ... fate.
What I'm going to do tomorrow (Monday June 17) is take this list and throw it into the random list sorter on random.org.
I will then roll 1d16 8 times, re-rolling duplicates. Numbers 1-6 are primary and should move on to completing their characters if anything's left to do. Numbers 7 and 8 are first alternates, and if any of the previous 6 should drop out then you'll have first dibs to jump in. Beyond that if anyone drops I'll turn it back over and take the first submission.
Once the selections are made I'll set up the discussion and gameplay threads and we'll get started around Thursday-ish this week. Probably in a tavern. I'll also drop characters an extra piece of information or lore based on their background selections.

For those of you selected, congratulations! I'll have the discussion and gameplay threads opened shortly. You may feel free to "dot in" on the gameplay thread (create a post then delete it so it will show on your campaign list), and talk among yourselves in the discussion thread. I'll be reviewing your character sheets to see if there are any glaring issues.
I'll make an introductory post in the gameplay thread later this week and we'll go from there.
For those of you not selected, I offer my condolences. This was the fairest way to decide among so many submissions, and I wish I could take everyone, but 16 players would be untenable for this adventure. Thank you so much for your submissions! I really didn't expect this level of turnout. Hopefully we meet again on another adventure.
