Survival, Heroism: DC17: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 = 16
Dale is flummoxed by the rumbling as well, he takes a stab at the possibility though "There is a definite history of volcanic and seismic activity in this mountain range. Maybe that's what's going on? Either way let's check it out!" He cheers excitedly and heads with the others.
Assume Dale took 10 searching the pink room: DC20

moved everyone up. Wisp I hid you behind a wall.
Surrounded by fierce whirling winds, an athletic woman of living stone appears atop the head of the massive serpentine statue. In a booming telepathic voice, she declares, “For over a thousand years I’ve stood vigil over the procession that leads up to this temple. I was watching you while you walked the Pilgrim’s Path. Everything you faced along the way was a test of your abilities and your character. But the test is not over — answer my questions and face my judgment!”
There is only one answer/attempt made per question, so make it a good one!
"Who are you and why are you here?"
Listed Options:
Bluff: Lie about the Pathfinder Society’s goals to make them seem more honorable.
Diplomacy: Tell about the Pathfinder Society in an honest but positive tone.
Knowledge (geography or local): Tell about the people and traditions of the Inner Sea region.
Perform (oratory): Describe Pathfinders and their past successes in a dynamic manner.

Sense Motive, heroism: DC15: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 2 = 19
Dale reads into the woman's tone and decides its best to not try to deceive her, but instead he sticks with what he does best: talk about things he knows.
"Oh great stone watcher of the Pilgram's Path. We come to you from far across the water, a place known as the Inner Sea. We have followed your rules and your tenets as best we could. We kept from straying off the path, we did not disturb the birds, and we signed the book for visitors." He finishes buttering the woman up and begins his description of their homeland.
"The Inner Sea is far away and our trip has been long by ship. We hope to learn more of the ways here and see what has happened to the temple that had some of it carried away to another realm by powerful magic. It was not us who did this of course, we are not that powerful! But if you would let me tell you of our homelands then maybe you could better judge us truly." He then goes into a lengthy diatribe of the lands and peoples that each of them hails from.

"I see..." she says. When Dale starts into his lengthy diatribe: "ENOUGH! You have already provided enough of an answer!"
Motioning to the mask on Baphos' face the statue woman asks her next question in a booming and forceful voice.
“This is no place for an oni! What were you thinking when you brought that creature here?”
Listed Options:
Bluff: Claim that Tanbaru never revealed that he was an oni.
Diplomacy: Explain that what happened to Tanbaru was beyond his control.
Knowledge (planes): Point out that a spirit oni is not as evil or corrupt as other types of oni.
Knowledge (religion): Point out that as a neutral deity, Yamatsumi has no particular bias against oni.

K Religion, Heroism, Cognatogen: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 12 + 2 + 4 = 35
"Since when does Yamatsumi shun oni? I thought Yamatsumi stood neutral and judged both sides. Besides, he hasn't been malicious, only helpful. He has given us no reason to leave him behind." Dale seems a bit defensive with only a touch of 'know it all' attitude that he sometimes exhibits.

Yes. I just wasn't sure if everyone else was on board with Dale solving the whole thing himself, and didn't want to prohibit group involvement.
"I accept your answer..." the statue woman looks down at the altar and an expression of rage comes across her face.
“I have failed my ward. Look at the desecrated altar! Tell me why I shouldn’t just let the fire and ash of Yamatsumi cleanse this place?”
As she speaks these words, the earth trembles, and fiery flashes are visible at the summit of the mountain looming over the temple. Droplets of lava begin to seep and bead at the seams between the temple’s stone blocks.
Listed Options:
Craft (sculpture or stonemasonry) or Knowledge (engineering): Give a realistic estimate on how easily the temple can be restored.
Diplomacy: Promise to find people who can repair the temple.
Intimidate or Knowledge (planes): Warn Jiraku about turning into an oni.
Knowledge (religion): Talk about rituals that restore the altar’s connection to Yamatsumi.

we have to pick just one? I'll make a pitch and then you tell me what to roll
"All is not lost Jiraku. The temple can be repaired, the altar restored. But if you destroy it it will be lost forever, and you will almost certainly become an Oni. We can help to restore this temple to it's true purpose of you will let us. There is another way."

Enhanced Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 13 + 2 = 27
"We have many friends, O spirit. The scars of the past may be healed with our aid, and theirs."

Jiraku says, “So few visitors have come and shown such respect for local traditions. I had forsaken my love and duty for this place, but perhaps there is hope for me yet.”
"Thank you, for showing me hope. But, I wish to know what you think is best for my next question: Should Tanbaru stay with me at the temple?"
Everyone weigh in on this with a clear vote. Other than this decision and exchange, you have time to do anything more that you wish to explore in the temple at your own pace (though you've already done everything), and rest.

![]() |

"Of course. Many hands in concert make short work of any task. Why would you shy away from Tanbaru's aid?"

![]() |

"Well, I'm pretty sure that's a question for Tanbaru isn't it? He's got his own voice." Dale smiles and pokes at the thing on the man's face with an elongated fingernail you've seen him dissect plants with.

![]() |

"Tanbaru has changed since becoming an Oni. He has been helpful in helping the Pathfinder Society, in general, and us, in particular, by sharing his knowledge in our explorations. I believe he has earned the right to stay if he so chooses."

![]() |

Tanbaru meekly replies "I've enjoyed working with the Society to redeem myself, and this was once my ward, but I have failed that. I'm not sure..."
The decision is left up to you all, it sounds like it's leaning towards him staying, though? If that is not the case, please let me know.

I'm gonna roll with "Tanbaru Stays" so we can get this wrapped up for PBP Gameday. If you disagree with him staying, and would rather he stay with the Society: please let me know.
Jiraki places Tanbaru on her face, smiles, and says, “I’m sad about what happened to you, Tanbaru, but I need you to remind me why I must never abandon my duty.”
Fast Forward montage of going back down the trail and traveling back...
Back in Ramparassad, Old Pak listens with interest to your account of your adventure. When you tell him of Tanbaru staying, Old Pak wistfully notes the departure of a friend before cheerfully declaring that this might be reason enough for him to visit the temple in person sometime! He adds that the site might once again attract Yamatsumi’s faithful to repair the trail and temple, which could earn the Society goodwill throughout the region.
This is the end of the scenario. I will have chronicles posted for you all tomorrow.
