Vreekka The Brainiac

Oops, forgot that Cannoli's ACP means she roll for aid...
"Well, tools are quite heavy, you know? I wasn’t able to buy a Handy Haversack yet..."
Vreekka sighs again, then gives Cannoli a pointed look.
"And I recall that somebody encouraged Grizz to do that. So maybe you could go do your other job and heal him?"
After the first trap was dealt with, Vreekka follows Grizz and checks out the second trap that he pointed out. Then she tries to disable it as well.
DD - ACP, MW tools: 1d20 + 9 - 0 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 9 - 0 + 2 = 18

Vreekka and Cannoli work together and, after a tense moment when things seemed like they weren't going well, they manage to disarm the trap!
Woo hoo! Since I'm guessing this gang is going to loot the place I'll summarize what is found. Oddly the statue is not given an identity but I think I know what it is supposed to be from earlier in the module. A Knowledge (Arcana) check may reveal what it is.
Random Alpha: 1d7 ⇒ 6
Lucinus checks the cupboard and finds an old map of the manor and surrounding grounds. It indicates that there is a secret door in the southwest corner of the cellar. A musical note has been drawn onto the area depicting the ballroom. He also finds a chain shirt and a masterwork cold iron longsword.
Random Alpha no Lucinus: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Guardian XI stops raging against the machine for a moment and checks the table next to the trapped column. He finds multiple glass vials filled with liquid. But what are they???
Random Alpha no Lucinus or Guardian XI: 1d5 ⇒ 4
Jakeric takes advantage of Grizzlebin's lack of speed to search the table next to the fireplace. He finds an odd monocle, four vials that Vreekka recognizes as alchemist’s fire, and two rods she can identify as sunrods.
4 different checks to determine what the potions are and then 1 for the odd monocle.
Cannoli Jones

Cannoli Jones gives a fist bump when Vreeka disables the trap. Whatever it was, at least it isn’t blowing up in their face.
”Sure yeah, I egged him on. I egg everyone on. Otherwise I’m pretty sure we would still be back in town investigating the disappearances a month ago. But still, you are probably right, I’ll tone that down. Also, how was I to know he wasn’t immune to getting hurt. All he does is brag about being immortal and calls us wimps. I don’t like that.”
She starts scanning magical items brought to her.
Spellcraft potion 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Spellcraft potion 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Spellcraft potion 3: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Spellcraft potion 4: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Spellcraft monocle: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
She adds loudly, ”If anyone wants bandages or healing, just ask.”
Guardian XI

Guardian ponders what a shape with 5 or 7 equal sides could even look like.
mike's character
|
Lucinus examines the items he found "These look nice, an old Chelish design by the looks of it."
"Would this sword or armour be useful to anyone? It's probably worth making sure everyone who uses weapons has at least one cold iron option."
He then looks at the map "According to this map there is a secret door down in the cellar and someone has drawn a musical note on the ballroom which suggests there may be something significant there as well."
| GM Shadow Dragon |
Grizzlebin limps over to Cannoli, "I could use some healing. I'm so slow Jakeric beat me to the loot!"
Cannoli draws a blank on the potions but does discover information about the mysterious monocle.
Once per day, by speaking a second command word, the user can activate a 1st-level spell from a scroll even if she doesn’t have the spell on her class list or meet the other requirements. Activating a scroll with the monocle is a full-round action (or the spell’s casting time, whichever is longer)."
Vreekka can easily identify the potions. I'll give them until this evening to post and then I'll bot them to reveal which potions the party has found.
Daegon examines the mounted statue and identifies it as a manticore. If the group recalls Back on some page in the distant past... the diary found in the mausoleum described a successful manticore hunt in Sargava.
Guardian XI
|
k.arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
The cold forged sword might make a good backup weapon...XI?
He holds up his cold iron greatsword.
Guardian XI
|
Guardian assesses the manticore statue, wondering why people do things like this.
So, do organisms know that once you kill a manticore it stays dead whether or not you trap it in your home? Very odd. It's not even useful as furniture.
He looks around at others in the group for a glimmer of understanding. He won't fixate on it for long though.
Cannoli Jones
|
Cannoli, never afraid to share way too much info, pops into a long explanation about the monocle.
” What we have here… is a failure to communicate is an Antiquarian's Monocle. This lens, mounted in a round silver frame, fits snugly in the eye orbit of any Medium or Small user. Three times per day on command (the word is skarfoogle), the monocle allows the user to read magical inscriptions (including scrolls) as if affected by read magic. Once per day, by speaking a second command word (this one is wooblesnorlicious), the user can activate a 1st-level spell from a scroll even if she doesn’t have the spell on her class list or meet the other requirements. Activating a scroll with the monocle is a full-round action or the spell’s casting time, whichever is longer.”
She taps her chin with a claw, ”We got some scrolls, right? Were there any level ones that we couldn’t cast? I don’t recall boring stuff that long ago.”
Guardian XI
|
He then looks at the map "According to this map there is a secret door down in the cellar and someone has drawn a musical note on the ballroom which suggests there may be something significant there as well."
Becoming more focused again, Guardian thinks about what may be significant about a ballroom.
We should check it out before we head into the secret door, which will inevitably lead us to some "next phase" of our search. When secret doors are made, one doesn't hide their valuable records outside of them. Usually. Unless it's a decoy.
He looks over Lucinus' shoulder.
Does the music note look like a general marker for the room, or do you think its placement is significant?
mike's character
|
"None of the other rooms look to have similar markers, like maybe a picture of a bed for the bedroom, so I suspect it must have some sort of specific importance." suggests Lucinus.
"There was a scroll of charm animal among the scrolls we found, which I don't think anyone could cast." he adds in response to Cannoli's question.
Cannoli Jones
|
Cannoli taps Grizz with her wand after he begs her asks nicely for healing.
She replies to Guardian, ”It’s probably the shanty mentioned in the other room. I’d guess we use piano down there or just sing it.”
| GM Shadow Dragon |
Another musical number - woo hoo! :) Since everyone not away in the Outback has posted:
Vreekka turns her keen (but old) eyes towards the potions to discern the following:
Five potions of cure light wounds
Two potions of endure elements
One potion of enlarge person
One potion of reduce person
After surveying the equipment in the room she determines it can function as a full alchemist's lab! The real questions are: Who's going to carry it all and in what?
Guardian XI
|
I think enlarge person doesn't work on constructs, similar to how it doesn't work on outsiders?
| GM Shadow Dragon |
I think enlarge person doesn't work on constructs, similar to how it doesn't work on outsiders?
On a pure construct that's true. However Androids have this under the "Constructed (Ex)" part of their racial traits: "For the purposes of effects targeting creatures by type (such as a ranger’s favored enemy and bane weapons), androids count both as humanoids and as constructs." Enlarge Person starts with, "This spell causes instant growth of a humanoid creature (...)." So my interpretation is that Enlarge Person would make Guardian XI transform into Optimus Prime. Just my take though... ;)
| Grizzlebin |
Grizzlebin gingerly tries walking on his now-healed foot, just like a human trying on a new pair of shoes. He nods at Cannoli. "Good stuff, thanks."
Vreekka The Brainiac
|
"Four alchemist’s fire and two sunrods! Sweet!"
The alchemist is pleased with the alchemical items. She then tries to assist Cannoli with the liquids, holding and inspecting each for a few seconds.
"These are five minor healing potions, those are two potions of endure elements, this one makes people smaller - I might keep this one for me - and that one, well..."
Vreekka turns to the android.
"Hey Guardian, this potion makes people bigger. And I'm 100% sure it will even work on you. So, are you interested?"
I agree with our GM's interpretation. RAW or RAI, there shouldn't be any doubt about enlarge person transforming Guardian XI into Optimus Prime.
Guardian XI
|
Yeah! I always wondered what it would be like to be a giant! Or at least an ogre. Robo-ogre. Something.
He stuffs the Enlarge Person potion away in his pack.
Guardian XI
|
We can probably break some interesting things in the ballroom! And find out what's so special about it.
Cannoli Jones
|
Cannoli hands out the healing potions to everyone that can’t just… ya know… magically heal with a touch, ”Guardian, grab that alchemist’s lab for Vreeks. She can use it to make booze later. Also, great idea! I’ll sing the first verse but then you all can join in the chorus.”
mike's character

Lucinus makes sure the dangerous potion he is passed is safely sealed (although the healing potion is dangerous to him, its still useful as he can use it to heal others). He then follows the others down to the ballroom.
"If its helpful for anyone, we've got a copy of the sheet music for the song inside the music box."
| GM Shadow Dragon |
Guardian XI wants to continue his destructive rampage (has anyone told him these things can be sold for money???), Lucinus wants to lead the orchestra, and Cannoli starts warming up her singing voice.
Anilda motions to the group and whispers, "Remember TickLick is lurking."

Guardian approaches the might, drawing his cold iron greatsword.
I think we know what to do with these...

Smelling a goody two-shoes (do androids wear shoes???) TickLick smites Guardian XI:
Slicer!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 231d3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5
A crit? No way!
Slicer!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5
Didn't think so!
TickLick delivers a mighty slice to Guardian XI!
But his victory is short-lived as the rest of the party looms...
Round 1 – What kind of name is TickLick?

Everyone is UP! But Daegon please allow the others to surround and overwhelm this poor abused mite who never hurt anyone... ;)

The catfolk moves up and tries to remove the mite’s head with her mace, ”Little bugger just stabbed Guardian, get em!”

TickLick has fiendishly placed himself 35 feet from Lucinus, just out of range to move and attack. So I'll hold of on moving until after everyone else as I cant attack this round.
| Grizzlebin |
Grizzlebin looks around the corner and sees the little mite surrounded by Guardian XI and Cannoli. He shrugs, and looks over at Jakeric. "I don't think we're gonna be needed for this one."
Pass my turn. If the mite drops Guardian XI, Grizzlebin will eat Jakeric's hat!

That's an expensive hat! I'm surprised Grizzlebin hasn't eaten it already...

Okay...
Guardian's expression turns sinister and irritated when smited by TickLick. He raises the cold iron greatsword over his head and slashes down in response.
cold iron greatsword attack (furious focus), slashing damage (furious focus): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 192d6 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 + 2 = 18

I guess Lucinus does have one ranged option...
Seeing the mite keeping its distance, Lucinus strides forward allowing the rage to take hold of him again while drawing his dagger, which he then launches at the creature...
thrown dagger attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
slashing/piercing damage + rage: 1d4 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10

Lucinus's dagger throw is as deadly as it is accurate. His dagger sinks into TickLick's chest and the mite falls over from the combined wounds he has suffered...
Combat over! Assuming the inevitable looting and identification:
The group ransacks the small corpse and finds the following amongst its possessions: Two potions of cure light wounds, two tanglefoot bags, dagger (small), shortbow (small), with 20 arrows, and fifty seven gold Standards.

Cannoli gives a big grin, ”Thanks for defending my honor. It seems at least you all respect cats over dogs. Let’s go play that music!”
She grabs the sheet music, sits at the percussive piano type instrument and prepares to play it when everyone is ready.
Seems like a good plan, will see you all on the other side of the outage!

"Well done, everyone. And I agree - we should definitely check out the ballroom again."

Cannoli hands out a potion to Daegon and keeps one herself, ”There, every single person or quasi immortal being has a curative potion now.”
She hands the coins to Vreeka, ”And our accountant has the coinage.”
