"I think we need to find two more spooks. Let's go," Kipp says as he walks towards the door, but then pauses "Wait, what about those voices?"
Rorik.

cast message on Kipp
Gordy Grimes
|
Gordy squirms as the Kitsune's begin to hack at the finely crafted Dwarven door with their adamantine weapons.
They gonna tear this whole place apart.
"Hey, everybody. What about that scream we just heard? Maybe some a' us should go see if anyone be needin' help before knocking that door down."
GM Worg
|
Rorik manages to get a sizeable hole cut into the door that allows anyone to see the other side. Ornate chests, tapestries, and geometric stone carvings line this expansive tomb. A heavy stone sarcophagus—its lid shattered and scattered across the floor—rests on a dais to the north. The dry air is heavy with the smell of cedar and berries. Seven dead duergar lie sprawled around the room, their bodies contorted in unnatural angles and their faces frozen in screams of agony.
"Archer"
|
”Careful, people” says Archer. ”Those Duergar didn’t do that to themselves. ”
GM Worg
|
A few more smacks on the door and now the hole is large enough for anyone to enter. From inside, a fractured and reverberating voice calls out.
"... Who are you? Why are you here?.."
Kipp warpriest of Madness
|
Kipp shakes his head ten moves over to the hole in the door.
"Hello, voices beyond the door. My name is Kipp, and these are my companions," Kipp says this and gestures to each person as he "introduces" them. "This is Bow-man, Salty-Sea-Dwarf, Brain snake, Mister Jokester, Miss Guu, Good-boy-dogo, and Grumpy Fox. We Pathfinders seek to find and stop the spooky not living dwarves and make them just plain dead, rather than walking around, and stop the thing making them."
Gordy Grimes
|
"Oy, what the critter said be the gist a' it. Some skellies came to the surface and took some dwarf folk into the dark with 'em and we're just trying to get them back. Kipp be wanting to smash them bony brigands, but for myself, I just want to rescue who we can. I'm expecting that ye' are a ghost of some kind. Will ye' be willing to help us if we could put yer soul t' rest?"
GM Worg
|
The ghostly voice then takes form. It appears to be a dwarven woman covered in plate armor with hair that goes into long twin braids.
“I... I saw those who violated my redoubt and stole my Firebrand. Vile duergar thieves and that... that woman. She looked so familiar, like Karexin’s wisp of an apprentice, but older, more confident... perhaps her mother? I... it is difficult to put the pieces together..."
"She held my axe, and her touch... the blessing of Torag and the symbol my soldiers swore their fealty to... I feel her fingers closed around it even now as if they were on my own throat. I do not know who she is, but I can feel the tug of my axe on my soul. It screams in pain over what she is doing to it... and through it I can feel the cold spite of the miserable creatures her magic has corrupted my soldiers into. She lies down the twisting narrows of the Blighted Path.”
“I need... my heart, my connection to the divine. I need Firebrand. Can you bring it to me? I miss its warmth, and I cannot sleep when I am so cold.”
“My Firebrand... Torag, the Father of Creation, shaped it using my hands and forge. Every life I saved and every life I took came by that axe, and when my soldiers swore their loyalty to me, they chose it as the symbol in which to invest themselves. It is my life, my family’s legacy, and my soldiers’ hearts, bound in marbled steel. I don’t exactly know what magic can do to such a symbol, but I know I cannot sleep again without it safe in my home...”
“Down the twisting narrows, down the Blighted Path. It hung, or dripped, from the cavern ceiling, high above Phaedextrin’s Maw... deep down in Nar-Voth, where light never shines.”
“Twisting, turning, narrow streaks of death. They were mines, old and forbidden when I was still flush with the gift of youth. The stone bled death, and coaxed back the worst pieces of those who died within. So we walled it off, but bleak things still crawl up through it from the Darklands below. We followed the Blighted Path to fight Karexin, and I can feel Firebrand being dragged back through those cold tunnels.”
Apologies about the delay there. Was helping at 2D Con and then needed to clean up my place of some old furniture and stuff.
"Archer"
|
"Madam dwarf, did you go by the name of Lady Delbera Axebringer when you were alive? How may we help you? Could the woman have been the apprentice? It has been a long time..."
I am assuming we've gone down the path of the questions...?
GM Worg
|
Yeah, that was to help speed things up and get us back on track.
"Delbera Axebringer... Yes, that was... IS... My name. If you can return the axe Firebrand to me, I could find rest... The woman has my axe... If you wish... Use the Sallyport as your camp and launch point... To journey to the Darklands..."
After you ask her all of the questions, she then fades away. There appears to be some helpful loot in here that you could use during your adventure into the Darklands. One one of the corpses of a Duergar appears to be a map back to their base of operations. It appears that only a half-mile away they were planning on sending more captives as slaves.

And now for Kipps' wonderful descriptions of what the items are.
"This is a ring of falling slow, gloves of doctoring, a scroll of see in the dark, a..." Kipp pauses on the second scroll, then tosses it over his shoulder before continuing, "That one is worthless junk, this is stick of hit better and don't run away, and lastly the stick of jump good."
"Archer"

Gordy Grimes

"I ain't a greedy feller by no means, but I could probably make good use outta that ring or them magic gloves. I can shoot me self straight up in the air like a geyser, but the last time I tried that I came down real hard and twisted me ankle. And I can put a dressing on someone in a pinch, but but ya' don't want me doin' anything more complex that that."
Both those items could be useful for Gordy in the right circumstances, but if someone else wants them more, then I would be fine with that.

The party exits out of the Redoubt, and sure enough, they are able to pick up on the trail with the help of the map they found. A half-mile beyond Firebrand’s Redoubt, down yet another winding side tunnel, the Ashen Company has established a small camp, where the remainder of the forces await their commander’s return and guard more of Sarxa’s captives. Three dozen dwarven slaves are chained together around a massive stone column.
