Philton Grack |
"Maybe parts of the this mechanism is within the safe. If the safe has not been opened for years and this winch has been neglected for years... Just a theory..."
"Should we also check out the corridors... I'm not sure of the Gugs would be the ones to lay such devices..."
GM Auke |
"Maxxuud, if you wish I could try to look at the mechanism with my x-ray vision... I imagine the door is multilayered with interlocking cogs..."
Philton activates his ring and looks into the safe as far as he can see.
1d100 ⇒ 50 Mishap!
1d200 ⇒ 5Philton tries to look through the safe, but the ring fails to work. Even worse, all four of you are now drained of color!
Maxxuud Setty-Hawthorne |
"Philton, stop activating magic items!"
Maxxuud feels kinda grey. Does he or anyone else know what sort of affliction is affecting them?
"I have the remedy for a number of ailments with me. Whilst they are scrolls I can normally use, Brotil will have to cast them in this den of magical mishap.
I hate this place. It lacks proper order...."

The party's combined knowledge reveals that it is a temporary condition and that the colors will return in minutes.
Maxxuud Setty-Hawthorne |
"Perhaps this is how Gnomes feel after they have succumbed to their inevitable sickness?"
"We should explore these trapped corridors. I personally think that we should charge down the corridors, and meet any foe with our righteous might. However, knowing your preference for scouting Philton, you should use your arcane eye to explore them first. I will yield to your will in this occasion. And if you have any time left, you can always send it down that long, steep corridor."
"Before Philton uses his third eye.."
The perceptive party members notice a wry smirk from Maxxuud
"... we should make any magical preparations for combat, in case someone or something can see his invisible contraption."
Maxxuud Setty-Hawthorne |
move the eye down the corridors, no taking ten as concentrating on a spell and technically distracted -2
But +2 for the heroism unless Philton has updated his skill roles on the dice spreadsheet, as this is not indicated
Maxxuud will guard the area while Philton uses his magic.

Philton's magic eye easily detects several deadfall traps. Their crude design seems to suggest that these are the work of gugs. They are baited with rotting meat and a sizable stone of some sort. Each trap is made with a piece of the decline winch.
Maxxuud Setty-Hawthorne |
"Excellent. Philton, can your eye bypass the traps? You can disable them when your spell has run out. We can see what is behind the traps down this corridor. Or can you disable the traps swiftly? And continue exploring with your eye?"
GM Auke |
"Maybe we should dismantle these traps for these winch pieces?"
What is the sizable stone? part of the trap mechanism? counterweight... When mean a 'piece of the decline winch'? Is it easily removable?
The stone is clearly bait, but without proper light you can't see the color and have no idea what kind of (gem)stone it is.
The piece of decline winch is the part that will drop on you if you trigger the trap, so it's quite big and heavy.
Maxxuud Setty-Hawthorne |
"I have never had a gallstone Philton. I eat meat mostly. The advantages of following Ragathiel's divine teachings is that I am immune to any disease from foul meat. Not that I would stoop so low as to eat Moth meat. That sounds quite rancid... "
Philton Grack |
"Agreed, hence why I'm confused of who would be wanting to eat the Moth Meat, recognise the Emerald for its worth and require the Winch parts... "
"I'm happy you are immune to the foul meat. Could you possibly help me with the winch parts"
Concentrate on the eye and send it south and then west, again looking for traps etc.
Maxxuud Setty-Hawthorne |
"I can cure disease too. I frequently go out before retiring for the night and cure the sick and homeless of their disease. All I ask in return is that they seek a small amount of Vengence of someone that has wronged them."
"Other times I go along to the local sherrifs office and find the name of a worthy soul that was killed by a grievous wrong. I find them at the morgue, ressurect them, and allow them to seek furious Vengence on their killer. Vengence within the local laws of course."
GM Auke |

The eye arrives in a cave.
The ceiling to this grotto sinks down to a mere ten feet, and the cavern’s floor makes a sudden thirty-foot drop below. At the base of the drop, the floor becomes a fine silt rather than hard stone.
Philton Grack |
"Vengeance does sound like a complicated affair Maxxuud... I myself, I'm looking for the truth; your truth, my truth, Tyranyx and Brotil also have a truth..."
Philton sees the image of the new landscape... "Team, the mine changes ahead into some type of quicksand..."
Philton describes the scene to the group. Move to eye down the western cavern, again searching as it goes...
GM Auke |

There's also remnants of a distillery and a hole accessible from the silt leading somewhere.
Philton Grack |
"Brotil I forgot to mention the area with the potential quicksand has remnants of a Distillery and some type of passageway further underground... You being a man of the oven, do you want to see if they have some good mold to help your buns rise!"
Philton cracks a little smile, and winks at Maxxuud...
Send the eye back to the Distillery as we are walking there, sending it down hopefully before we enter.
GM Auke |
The floor of this spacious, 10-foot-tall cavern chamber is covered in the same silt as the adjacent grotto. Scattered, empty bottles and rusted
flasks on the ground betray that this cave was used by the miners as a drinking den.
Philton spots a corner of a dun tarp which seems to be placed there to obscure some secret cache.
GM Auke |
"Lets investigate this tarp... I'm sure this quicksand is going to eat us... Are you coming Maxxuud?"
Philton (and Maxxuud) head over to the tarp...
Maxxuud and Philton carefully scale down the wall and go down the hole and look under the tarp. Beneath it are 5 days’ worth of rations, three potions of cure moderate wounds, a bag of dust of disappearance, two elixirs of tumbling, and a newly crafted flask of dust of weighty burdens.
GM Auke |
As Philton and Maxxuud return to the grotto and make their way back the silt covered floor trembles and a large invertebrate covered with dark purple plates of chitinous armor pierces the surface.

Brotil Dankor |
Brotil concentrates and asks for the Divine Favour of Irori (Calling upon the strength and wisdom of a deity, you gain a +1 luck bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls for every three caster levels you have (at least +1, maximum +3). The bonus doesn’t apply to spell damage.) and moves in to aid Maxxuud.

Brotil buffs himself and bravely jumps down the 30 foot drop falling down slowly like feather.
Tyranyx 'Lethal' Toxins |
Tyranyx flies into the far end of the cavern and sees the huge pulsating purple worm. 'That's a big one', she thinks.
Concentrating on the purple phallic shape in the distance, Tyranyx conjures up a sparkling ball of glitter that she launches through the air at the worm.
Tyranyx adds extra arcane glitter to the ball, upping the effectiveness of the glittery spell.

Philton casts Cacophanous Call on the worm, defensively and concentrating is automatic. If the worm cannot perform the same actions as last round it becomes confused.
