Borgol finds himself smiling at the ghost, despite the unnatural presence, I'm glad we can lay the man to rest...
Borgol blinks at the statement and says, "I hope you weren't promised any skill at sailing as part of the deal? I don't mind lending a hand or a strong back, but that's about all I can promise."

Borgol notes the passengers boarding with a bit of interest, then turns back to the tour. I don't know that I like the thought of an accident-prone ship's officer. Sounds like a recipe for disaster...
Borgol smiles back at the attractive woman, "Well met, Miss Barvisai. I'm quite sure you're correct, just having met you has already improved the voyage. I am Borgol."

"Hiya, Miss Veraline!" Maddie stumbles over the actress' name, but doesn't slow down, "Good ta meet you! What you going for?" she asks.
GM Tealk |
Eddi picks himself up, and nods at the monk, "You don't look like you're trying to find your sea-legs, young miss! Never been out on the water before?" Sounds like he is seeking to gather some more information on the new group of passengers.
Off the port side of the ship, the pale man you saw wander onto the boat finishes loading his crates onto the vessel. He promptly heads to a suite below decks and shuts the door without interacting with anybody.
Meanwhile, Viralane gives Borgol a sassy wink, "The pleasure is all mine! I'm so pleased to have such a handsome traveling companion on this voyage! You, my dear, are positively scrumptious! Perhaps you and I might be able to find a way to improve eachother's time on this ship, if you catch my drift." She mostly avoids the smaller Maddie, but seems to wince as the wizard asks her question. She raises her nose at the girl dismissively, "You have exceptionally poor manors, little lady. Didn't your mother teach you anything?"
Audrahni stands near Alustria as Tyalee's Whim starts its journey down the Chavali River towards the Varisian Gulf. Soon, the town of Roderic's Cove fades into the distance behind you. The journey has begun!
Remy Tomovici |
Remy nods to Eddi. "Just twice before. The first time, I traveled from Sandpoint down to Magnimar, then up the Yondabakari River all the way to Kaer Maga. The second time was the reverse journey, except that I continued on past Sandpoint to Roderic's Cove. Aside from that, my training has given me excellent balance." Smiling, she stands on one leg and strikes a martial pose to demonstrate.
When Viralane chastises Maddie, Remy steps protectively in front of the girl. "I might ask you the same thing, Miss Barvisai. Is that how you treat your fans?"
Maddie Elthis |
Maddie's face falls, and she hides behind Remy's legs, then mutters something and vanishes. She then invisibly makes her way to the bow of the boat, and pulls out her crafting materials. By the time her spell wears out, she's already started fashioning some cloth into the shape of flower petals, magically stitching them together to make Flik's cloak.
Fergus Ironbeard |
Fergus bows to the actress. Well met. I am Fergus of the Ironbeard clan. I once acted in a play. The Forge of Radius Rockhand. The play was bad and I was worse! Fergus says with a chuckle.
he then tenses at the conflict starts between Remy and Veraline.
GM Tealk |
The half-orc claps, as Remy stands on one leg, "Bravo, miss! Bravo! That's some adventure you are on! Anyways, sounds like you will be some good help on the vessel if a storm hits, do you know how to tie a reef knot? Yarr?" He grabs some rope, and will very gladly show anyone who is interested some sailing techniques.
...
Viralane pays little attention at the shorter Fergus, but the halfling servant lets out a small giggle, "You're 'ery funny Master Fergus." She falls immediately silent, as she knows what is to follow when she opens her mouth around her mistress.
"Is that so?" The actress glares at the monk coldly, and swiftly turns around to go below decks, "Come now, Corla. We must start getting ready for the evening." The smaller maid, reluctantly follows, bowing apologetically at the two girls.
...
The first day of travel is quiet and comfortable. You journey south along Varisia's western shoreline, enjoying a pleasant breeze from the ocean. These breeze is a nice distraction as Maddie settles and works on her cloak for her friend. The rest of you study the ships crew, and think about the journey ahead. Corstela is nowhere to be seen for the majority of the evening, as she is too engorsed in her books to pay any attention to the goings on of the ship.
As evening approaches, Captain Sursha invites you all into the dining cabin to sit at her table. A long table fills the ship's dining cabin, covered by a white table cloth and set for all of the dinner's guests. The centerpiece is a wooden replica of Tyalee's Whim adorned with fresh flowers. Sursha sits at the head of the table, with Audrahni seated to her left. To her right, in the seat of honor, is Viralane. Though a seat and plate is prepared for her, Corla stands near her mistress, awaiting any instruction she might be given. The chair next to Corla's empty seat is for the pale man you saw earlier. He has been ensconced in his cabin the entire day, but he arrives just before dinner begins and finds his seat.
The rest of the table is set for the six of you, and Corstela, who arrives to the dinner with a beautiful jade dress. A little crammed, as the cabin is not used to comfortably sitting so many people around the table, but it will do.
As Borgol walks in, Viralane warmly smiles, and flutters her eyes gently at the ranger.
"Ah, good, everybody is here," The captain says with a smile. "Thank you all for dining with me this evening. Let us dedicate this meal to Gozreh - may the Wind and the Waves bless us with a calm voyage to Magnimar!"
The meal itself is simple but filling and delicious—a first course of bread and caper-stuffed olives, followed by lemon-braised lingcod and fried potatoes. Dessert consists of slices of herbed cheese served with small glasses of sweet blackberry wine.
"So then, why don't we all get to know each other a little better?" Sursha asks as you dine. "Let's go around the table and introduce ourselves and our histories. I suppose I'll start. I've been sailing on Tyalee's Whim since I was a little girl. Back then it was my father's ship - the Surety, named for my mother. Alas, she died when I was very little - a fever she contracted in the Rahadoumi port of Azir. After that, my father swore an oath never to leave Varisian waters again.
"As I grew up, there was never any doubt that I'd follow in my father's footsteps. On my twenty-first birthday, he presented me with this custom-made armor - sea-foam green and embossed with dancing fish. A year later, a Tian merchant took a shine to me. While I let him down gently when he proposed marriage, I did accept his gift of a magical katana forged in his distant homeland." She pats the scabbard at her waist. "You don't say no to an exquisite weapon like that!"
In that moment, Remy and Maddie get thumping headache. It lasts for a second or two, and then gone. Not again, why does this keep heppening? Why now?
Sursha's smile fades slightly as she continues her story. "Things were great for a long time. But a few years ago, a sudden storm caught the Surety when we were returning from Arsmeril. A rogue wave swamped the ship, and the crew was barely able to save her. It wasn't until after we were safe again that we realized my father had been washed overboard. We never found his body. After that, I inherited command of the ship. We've had quite a few exciting adventures since then, but I think I've talked enough for the time being. Would one of you like to go next?"
Remy Tomovici |
Remy puts her hands to her temples, trying to ward off another painful headache. She tries to listen to Sursha's story but finds it hard to concentrate. When the captain asks for another story, she raises her hand, trying to distract herself from the pain.
"I'll go, I suppose. I grew up in the town of Sandpoint. When I was just a child, goblins attacked the town during the annual Swallowtail Festival. I watched in awe as a band of brave adventurers fought them off--the very same adventurers who would one day become the Sihedron Heroes! I knew that one day I would follow in their footsteps.
"Later that same year, the town was attacked by an army of giants. Among their ranks was a red dragon that spread fire and destruction in its wake. Again the Sihedron Heroes defended the town, but I was struck by the terrible power and majesty of the wyrm. What if that sort of power could be harnessed for good?
"At fifteen, I left Sandpoint and journeyed to Kaer Maga, where I joined a monastery devoted to the teachings of ancient warrior-monks trained by dragons in the distant past. I honed my body and learned their mystic techniques. Once I turned eighteen, I joined up with a group of like-minded explorers and set out to plumb the depths of the ancient dungeons of Varisia."
Remy smirks. "Let's just say that didn't end well. After that, I came to Roderic's Cove and had been living in relative peace until all of this recent adventure found me."
Flik Gnilleps |
Flik eagerly joins in the storytelling, "My wanderings have not been so adventurous, at least not until lately! I've footed it across Varisia for years, carrying my traveling library on my back. I'd stop in each town for a time to trade tales or teach some younglings their letters. I've always found the country hospitable, and the changing of scenery appealed to me."

Fergus Ironbeard |
Fergus smiles and winks at Corla as she bows.

As everyone sits for dinner, Fergus motions to Corla's seat. Your dinner is getting cold Miss..er..Corla is it? No one should eat a cold dinner.
Oh yeah! Remy and I are definitely going to stir the pot with Viralane!
If Viralane does not allow Corla to sit..
Well I can't really be telling my tale when others are standing letting their dinner get cold!
If Viralane still refuses Corla to sit...
You all must excuse me. While we dwarves are known for our gruffness, we all eat and drink together no matter what one's station. He will then leave the table.

I looked out for my cousin Cordwin, being that he was a bookish type and all, but then he went off and became a Sihedron Hero! I figured it was time to go out and forge my own path. Like Flik, it is a fairly short tale, but one day I hope it to be an epic tale!

The small hangling manages a smile, before receivign the cold glare from her mistress. Viralane calmly suggests, "You are not too hungry, are you my dear? As a matter of fact, I believe you ate before..."
Almost immediately, Captain Sursha interjects, "Miss Barvisai, you are all guests at my table, and the meal was prepared for all you tonight. Please, allow Miss Corla to join us." She makes a gesture for the smaller lady to take a seat. Viralane manages a soft, "Hmph!", grumble, but allows for it. The halfling quickly sit, and begins smiling at Fergus who so valiantly stood up for her.

Speaking of Sandpoint, we are set to make a stop over in the small town. It hasn't changed much, but enough for you too see how the town has faired since the days of the Sihedron Heroes."

Audrahni smiles, and holds her cousins hand under the table. "It's okay, my dear, we are grateful for Everlight and her guidance."

"My turn at last!" As soon as the party is done telling their tales, the actress jumps at the opportunity to once again shine the spot light on herself. "Before I had really made a name for myself, I was in Oppara, portraying the maidservant girl of Duchess Amalaya in a production of A Soldier of Zimar. A Druman kalistocrat was so taken by my performance in this relatively minor role one evening that he promised me my weight in gemstones if I would consent to be his wife. I've never been so delighted to be on the heavier side of the scale. Alas, the man had the most vexing habit of breathing with his mouth open and he had the oiliest beard, so I was not tempted in the least by his offer. And of course, here was the matter of his wife. He would first have to have the poor thing murdered, which he seemed perfectly willing to arrange. Told me he'd have one of his footmen strangle her that very night with a scarf I had gifted him from my costume—he said I needed only give him a kiss on his cheek and the deed was done. Of course I let her know of her husband's opinion of her soon thereafter, but can you believe the gall of some men? Positively dreadful." She gives a stink eye across the table towards the man sitting past her gaze. He has stayed silent for most of the night, and has been sipping on his wine. "And what about you, Mister...? What was your name again?"
The pale man speaks in a hushed voice, as though imparting secrets reluctantly. “I am a native of Versex, in Ustalav, from a small village whose name you have no reason to have heard. I was a student for a time at the Sincomakti School of Sciences, but I left my studies to travel. I gladly shook the dust of Ustalav from my shoes and will never return.” He pauses for a moment, "Oh, and my name is Beckwood Roos."

Beckwood grows flustered and florid, angrily sputtering that “I may have grown up in Nisroch, but I’ve left Nidal behind. Matters of my childhood upbringing are my own business—a business I’ve worked my whole life to put behind me!" He glares at Maddie with cold eyes.
The captain smiles and claps, "Thank you all for sharing with your past with me! Now, let us all think about the future. Who wants tea?"
With everybody having had a chance to speak, the conversation turns to small talk as you finish your dessert. Sursha gently prods Viralane to sing a melody, and once all the wine is gone, the actress finally relents. "Okay, you've twisted my arm enough! I prefer the acoustics of the open sea, though. Let us adjourn to the main deck."
"Do you remember when we met?
That's the day I knew you were my sunset.
I want to tell you how much I love you.
Come with me, my love,
To the sea, the sea of love.
I want to tell you just how much I love you.

“From the Taldan opera, Daughter of Orlos, the final aria of its tragic heroine, Miriam.” Viralane closes her eyes briefly, and her enchanting smile is replaced by a face that reflects desperate, heart-wrenching sorrow. She sings, slowly opening her eyes and throwing her left arm out in a graceful motion. “Father! Thy grasping has cost you the most precious of your possessions. Hear me now, for my words are a gift at parting!” Viralane turns to the rigging and climbs as high as the crow’s nest thirty feet above, singing a haunting melody as she ascends. When she reaches the top, she sings the words, “Avarice! Thy price is the empty dark!”

Suddenly, the actress throws her arms wide and leaps from the crow's nest to a collective gasp from the gathering as she plummets towards the deck! The shock swiftly passes as she completes her character's beautiful aria of sacrificial suicide, "Full Purse, Empty Heart," while descending in slow motion - the effects of a feather fall spell. She lands gently on top of Remy and Fergus who are there waiting patiently for her on the deck, releasing a large crimson cloth she'd hidden in her complex outfit to symbolize the character's brutal arrival on the ground (certainly indicating Viralane had planned this dramatic performance all along, despite her many protestations about singing during dinner).
There is stunned silence for a few moments, then Corstela begins a slow clap. Sursha, Eddi, and the other sailors on deck quickly join the clap as it intensifies. Viralane expression quickly changes, as her smile shifts into an angry maw, "How dare you impede my performance, gnome! What do you think this is, a joke?"
Remy Tomovici |
Remy crosses her arms and glowers at Viralane. "Perhaps if you had warned us about your plan to leap from the crow's nest of the ship, we wouldn't have tried to intervene. We were just trying to help. You're welcome, by the way."

Viralane almost winces, "Hmph! Just stay out of my way next time. Trully, you have no appreciation for art!" She turns and heads below deck, "Come on Corla! We shall retire for the night!" The smaller halfling follows the taller woman, giving a thankful nod at Remy and Flik.
"Alright, enough gawping everyone! Back to work!" Eddie shouts good-naturedly at his men. It is a calm evening, the starts are completely visible - a good night of sailing awaits the ship. As the sailors return to their tasks, Sursha thanks you for the company and bids you a pleasant evening.

The second day of the journey is just as peaceful as the first. The Fogscar Mountains rise up to the east as you sail along the coastline. The new day is bright, and the wind is steady. Eddi finds you shortly after breakfast, "So, mates, how 'ya sleep on your first night at sea? I could use some help, if you don't mind - and most of ya look pretty strong! How about it - want to help earn yer dinner?" The half-orc seems very enthusiastic, and encourages you to put your heads some daily activities. "What do ye say? Want to, learn the ropes...? Heh, that wasn't my best joke..."
You can choose to help out in any of the following activities during the day, or go on your own adventure. You make a single roll for the day, and the points go towards the overall morale of the ship. You can chose from the following tasks: helping secure the rigging (dexterity, strength, survival or kn engineering), washing the deck (fortitude, perception or acrobatics), cooking (charisma, heal or slight of hand), help with the animals (wisdom, handle animal, intimidate), help with navigation (perception, kn geography, appraise).
While some of you put in some good hard labour, some of the other guests including Audrahni, Viralane and Corla mingle with the sailors on deck. You also notice that on this day, Beckwood Roos has hardly left his cabin, and Corstela is too inclined on doing research to help with anything else.
