Anwar Ibn Jad |
Anwar looks over the body with a degree of skepticism. These things are sometimes trapped by those looking to harm the unwary he says.
Perception, guidance: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 18 + 1 = 31
If it looks clear he will try and lever it down to the ground and check it over to see how the poor person died.
Heal, guidance: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 10 + 1 = 29
GM Eddv |
As Anwar looks over the body he begins to wonder how long the body must have been here - to be at this level of dessication and dryness he suspected mummification.
Yet, no signs of that were present. Instead the skin was more...charred?
Indeed he suspected magic in some what. It was certainly no natural or medical way to die. The body lay so hapzardly as well - a bit too randomly to even feel like it was placed there on purpose.
An examination of the bodys clothing revealed that they were wearing the vestments of Nethys, the Dual-natured god of magic.
And perhap more tellingly, Doodle's detect magic picked up a wayfinder in their pocket, engraved Rijana.
It's at around this point that Anwar began picking over her body and sure enough found a book more of a diary/journal. Titled Magical Mysteries of the Mana Wastes Steles, it’s a 200-page book half-filled with Rijana’s tiny scribbles, including a day-to-day account of her activities in the Wastes over the last six months.
Oddly, her last entry indicates that she was two days north of Geb’s Rest, in the Mana Wastes, camped around a stele that she believed could cure the Mana Wastes of it’s magical afflictions (or lack thereof) if only she could just translate and properly perform the ritual laid out on the stele in ancient Kelesh. This journal also makes mention of three other journals:
Translations of the Mana Wastes Stele
Demi-Planes, Pocket Dimensions, and the Mysteries of Geb
Flora, Fauna, and Hazards of the Mana Wastes.

"Well this is an unfortunate discovery." Jayori says sadly. "It would appear we have found our quarry. Anyone see any of these other books mentioned?"
"I do not feel comfortable burying her in this foul country." He adds with a frown. "There are those here who would use such a body, were they to find it."
Which then gets him wondering what exactly was their plan for getting home. Teleporting here was one thing, but they would not be able to take that route on the return trip.
Just how are we to get home?
Doodlevain "Doodle" Montafescue |
”Well, our only clue is to follow her journal and head to her last known location. Perhaps there will be the rest of the books there.”
Anwar Ibn Jad |
I agree, let us visit this place she was exploring. I suggest we wrap her remains and hide them in one of these buildings. We can recover her when we return.
Fredreka |
Desna does love her journeys, looks like she's sent us on a nasty one this time 'round.
GM Eddv |
The group folloes their solitary lead out on the road into the wastes.
It soon becomes clear that this is a magic deadzone of sorts.
As you walk through the dead blasted desert terrain your magical possessions flicker in and out of functioning.
The terrain looks to be takibg you up an old paving stone road passing through a canyon bed momentarily before taking you into flatter terrain.

Youre actually right. It beat you on stealth even WITHOUT the invisibility so it all works out.
A large jet black cat materializes next to Jayori once magic winks out.
Jayori Bissumbhur |
And curse you for making us do math! Strength belt turns off, and +1 trident reverts to mwk.
My AC also drops by 2, and all saves by 4

Acid Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Fredreka then steps back to re-evaluate.
GM Eddv |
The dagger bounces right off of the cats fiery boney hide, while the acid does seem to cause a small caustic trickle of damage as the vial was improperly stored and not as potent as it could have been.
Even Jayori's Trident isn't nearly as effective as he had hoped!
The cat, arrogantly assuming you cannot hurt it after that display zooms past the pair of Dragon Disciples and tries to pounce on Fredreka!

Take total defense. FYI, if magic comes back on, I have Spell Storing Armor with Bestow Curse in it. I would activate it on any successful hit and aim to reduce the cat's STR by 6.

It had a charge lane?
And are you sure its not supposed to be size large? The damage die seem to be for a large critter.
Jayori frowns, as the strange cat rushes right past, ignoring the closer foes, to try to get at Fredreka. He takes a stab at it as it goes by.

Fredreka |
Do the buffs we had on start working again? Or are they gone for good?
Anwar Ibn Jad |
In which case Anwar will just hang about to provide a flank and take a speculative swing at the visible thing with his scimitar. You can add 1 to all of Shimmer's attacks as she doesnt have GMF, reduce all damage values by 1 and they are not magical
Scimitar, flank: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 = 17
