I checked. She doesn't have Selective Channel. She's a LG aasimar who has made no secret of her feelings towards evil in her play. She may have very well intended exactly what she did.

There is the sound of chanting and then the rope zigs and zags through the air. In a blast of white light, a Garundi man hovers over the fallen body of Mordiskitos. "I have no choice," he says.
The erinyes that had ensnared the man releases him and begins to fly away.
Combat! Round 2. Bold may act.
Yellow Erinyes (-14 hp)
Rocky (barkskin, mage armor)
Keos (-10 hp; Fire Resist 20)
Mordiskitos (-88 hp; dying)

Davina
Milo (-16 hp)
Narsino (-17 hp; haste 3/4)

Surprised at Davina's actions, Rocky tries to stabilize the situation.
As a swift action he will increase his jumping ability even more. He will then jump up and try to grab the now visible hostile.

Rocky leaps into the air and grabs hold of the magus. The two slowly rotate in the air.
"I have no choice!" he counters.
And he's grappled.

![]() |

Well, Move action + standard action. I made the check for the move action. While I technically moved after the standard it wasn't purposeful so wouldn't require spring attack. And if you can jump stupidly high like that a jumping grab makes perfect sense as a tactic. Not my fault the combat rules didn't explicitly cover characters that can jump 15 feet straight up :) Pretty sure they are both sinking unless the Magus is stupid strong. Rocky probably weighs around 300 lb.

GM Blake |

Oh my goodness, you guys are spiralling. Your enemy is still the Garundi magus/yellow square. Teena Forster/blue square is still on your side. The erinyes are abandoning you.

"Fek? Took off like a bat out of Hell. He'll find us eventually."
Probably.
"You seen the little bugger, Artylget?"

GM Blake |

You gather yourselves and make your way to the Fallen Fastness. Zarta waits for you there and escorts you to where the bone devil, Vetrivides, waits outside of Leventi's scriptorium.
You present your evidence. Tholvinus and Teena Forster give abbreviated testimonies. The devil is pleased. He presents you with the following tools as reward and authorizes you to enter into Leventi's scriptorium.
Loot: scroll of vision of hell, scroll of mass bear's endurance, oil of magic vestment (CL 12th), wand of volcanic storm (10 charges), and a piercing metamagic rod.
Artylget opts to stay outside. Zarta will accompany you.
Tholvinus describes the scriptorium to you: You'll enter the main entrance hall first where there are a bunch of Thrune statues. To the left is the study. To the right are the archives. Straight ahead will be a museum to the Thrune family. There's another portal in the back of the museum, but Tholvinus doesn't know what is in there. The portals between rooms are all trapped with words of power that will make you weak to Leventi's magic. You can't avoid that except by sheer willpower.
With Vetrivides' authority, the glowing red runes that had sealed Leventi's scriptorium fade at your touch.
You stand before a 10 ft wide double door.
For reference inside the scriptorium: Unless otherwise noted, the ceilings here are 20 feet high, and the glow emanating from the display cases and infernal contracts provides dim illumination.

![]() |

Mack whistles as he examines the gifts Vetrivides gives them. "Mass bear's endurance? That powerful spell ought to help mitigate our vulnerability to the magical effects of the portals. What do you think?" Mack asks his companions.
Mack passes through the double door and takes a look at the statues arrayed in the main entrance hall, activating his wayfinder to brighten the dim light. "Interesting. I wonder what these pieces of are meant to represent. What to they reveal about Leventi, if anything?"

GM Blake |

There are still characters with damage. Are you certain you want to proceed without healing first?
You are heading into the main villain's chamber. Are you certain that you want to proceed without casting spells on yourselves?

Having healed his own wounds, and applied some healing to the wolf, Mack asks, "Let me know if you need more healing from me. I've got some charges left in my wands."
"I asked Davina, and I'm asking everyone else, does anyone have the ability to restore my strength? I'm feeling a little weak."
(-1 STR damage; no effect yet, so Mack could wait, but who knows what's coming.)
"Hey, Zarta, you want to take a look at these statues?" Gods, man, she stands around like a piece of antique furniture. Venture-Captains! Whatcha gonna do with 'em, right?

The red runes fade too quickly for Fek to determine their specific mechanism, but he is certain that no traps remain.
Vetrivedes steps over the shrunken tengu to enter the entrance hall. Two other bone devils await him.
Silver flames along the wall accent the features in this statuary chamber. A marble humanoid devil with four horns stands proudly in the center, draped in robes and reaching toward the horizon. Regal statues of humans line the walls. Three large wall scrolls with writhing text adorn the north, west, and east walls.
Vetrivedes heads to the central statue and inspects a silver hourglass that has been placed in front of it.
The sequence of statues here leads Zarta to muse aloud about the Thrune legacy of rulers deposed or murdered by their successors—and who might be scheming to unseat Abrogail II, the current ruler of Cheliax.
Fek investigates the three exits and determines that they are each magical portals and that they are each dangerous to those not intended to pass through. There is no way to disable the effect.
Exits: North, West, East. South is back to the Fallen Fastness.

Moving about the room, avoiding the pair of bone devils, Mack searches the room for anything interesting, especially the statue and the silver hourglass that Vetrivides is checking out.
(Planar Penalty, Perception Take 10 for 26)
He turns to his colleagues. "Tholvinus told us to the left is the study. To the right are the archives. Straight ahead is a museum to the Thrune family. There's another portal in the back of the museum, but Tholvinus doesn't know what's in there."
Mack looks at the portals, one by one, considering where to start. "I'd like to check the bugger's study, first. Cool?"
Then he frowns. "Tholvinus also said the portals between rooms are all trapped with words of power that make you weak to Leventi's magic. According to the imp, we can hope to avoid that only through sheer willpower."
"Can one of you cast the mass bear's endurance spell from the scroll on all of us, before we go any further?"

GM Blake |

The most interesting thing in the room is the silver hourglass-like device that the bone devils are fiddling with.
Vetrivides reminds you that you have full authority to destroy Leventi if he resists arrest.

![]() |

"So, Vetrivides, what's this?" Mack asks, pointing at the hourglass. "Can't afford a watch?"

GM Blake |

If Fek is not sneaking...
The floor is unimpressive. The two other bone devils acting as guards gruffly rebuff Fek's approach. However, it is easy to see that it is some sort of magical device. A silvery hourglass forms the center piece of the device.
Vetrivides scoffs at Mack's question. "Mortals. So easily distracted. This device keeps devils from teleporting in or--more importantly for your task--out. Now, be about your task before you give him more time to prepare."
Davina casts mass bear's endurance on everyone. 6 minute duration
EDIT: I will tell you now so to avoid confusion when you start to go through the portals: it takes 1 round for each person to pass through the portal. You'll basically be popping out on the other side one at a time, so choose your order. Also provide a Will save (with planar penalties) every time you enter a portal.

GM Blake |

Whoops. I forget that AoN shows the base spell even when you search the mass versions.

The scroll feels like gelatin when you place your hand upon it. Once you place any intentional force upon the portal, it begins to drag you in whether you want to reconsider or not. For a good ten-count you endure a smothering darkness and then emerge upon a dimly illuminated landing one hundred feet above the floor of a deep room. Spiral stairs run along the wall toward the dark below.
As Mack emerges, the ink on the other side tries to stick to him, but he pulls himself free. Realizing that the others are coming right behind him and that he will be forced off the edge if he does not move quickly, he begins to descend the stairs.
In sequence, Rocky, Fek, Davina, and Milo emerge, extract themselves from the ink, and move out of the way.
Finally, Zarta emerges.
A steep, narrow staircase spirals down one hundred feet to an isolated office (15 ft x 15 ft) with a simple wooden writing desk, a bookshelf stuffed with heavy legal texts, and an iron post with chains and manacles attached.
Fek searches the room and discovers a ledger that appears to be kept by Leventi. This contains cryptic notes about dozens of different contracts and deals that are difficult to parse but might provide more context when combined with other clues.
There is also an elaborate red and black quill sitting in a vial of blood red ink.
Don't forget the Will save going back.
