"If you fell another one of my friends, I will personally request your soul in Hell! STOP IT!"
Longsword: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Going to take my Folio reroll on that. I can send you a wonderful picture of me with it if you need the proof
Longsword reroll + 2 GM stars: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 = 15
DAMN IT! LITERALLY!
Saving shield as an immediate to add +2 shield if adjacent to ally. Bodyguard as one of my three AoOs (And I'm definitely willing to expend all 3) to aid AC if adjacent to enemy and ally being attacked.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Sirius threatens to blow up the neighborhood while Andolyn attempts to hit her foe. Sirius's alchemist's fire hits the shelves above the barrels, and immediately starts a fire.
Sirius, I assume you are targeting a grid intersection along the wall. Lemme know if that's right.

Sirius is less than thrilled with the notion of getting anywhere near that thing; here's what I'll do for now...
Sirius crosses over to the serving area, leaps onto a table...
...and stylishly tosses a flask of alchemist's fire in the direction of the wall stocked full of volatile chemicals!
"OH NO!" Ramyla screams and rushes around to the end of the bar.

![]() |

Andolyn does not have reach - I assume she 5' stepped next to the doppleganger, and Janus's movement along the bar counter is dependent upon my assumption being correct. I want to remain adjacent to Andolyn, for her Bodyguard and Saving Shield abilities.
Janus steps along the counter, hoping to keep the doppleganger assassin pressed against the flames.
dire flail, studied target, higher ground: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 10damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11

"You are its target, Ramyla. Stay back."

![]() |

Again, I assume that Andolyn is adjacent to the doppleganger, freeing the space that her icon currently occupies on the map.
Janus Too moves to the side of the screaming barkeep, and continues their interference strategy.
Aid Another, AC vs doppleganger: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Sirius, I assume you are targeting a grid intersection along the wall. Lemme know if that's right.
It isn't; I was targeting the doppelganger.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Okay, rewind time.
First off, reviewing our bad guy I see that Jurmo did indeed hit him with shocking grasp for 3 electric damage. That happens. Next Sirius hits the doppelganger for 5 fire damage singeing everyone around him for 1. Janus (all of them) fail to connect with the monster (regardless of flanking). Ramyla still moves closer to the fight because it's her bar you are destroying.
The thing hisses and bubbles a bit. It takes it's frustration out on the seemingly squishy mageling on the bar.
claw v Jurmo (favored enemy, magic fang, bloody assault, rending claws): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 = 16 damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 bleed damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1 hit
claw v Jarmo (favored enemy, magic fang, power attack, rending claws): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 2 = 25 damage (incl. rending): 1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 5 + (1) = 10 bleed damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
The woman falls to the bar.
additional alchemist's fire damage to doppelganger: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Andolyn does not have reach - I assume she 5' stepped next to the doppleganger, and Janus's movement along the bar counter is dependent upon my assumption being correct. I want to remain adjacent to Andolyn, for her Bodyguard and Saving Shield abilities.
A safe assumption. Map updated to reflect it.

![]() |

Andolyn, I'm going to try to set up a flank.
Janus casts Litany of Sloth on the doppleganger. A swift action, so does not provoke; DC13 Will negates
If the doppleganger fails its save: Janus moves along the bar top, dropping off the counter to cut off the monster's escape route to the lower level. "Andolyn, now!" he calls. Following ready action only applies if doppleganger fails save, hence spoilered.
If the doppleganger passes its save: Janus full attacks from their present position.
dire flail, higher ground, studied target: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 13damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6

![]() |

Janus Too will move into the space that Andolyn vacates (assuming she does vacate), and interfere with the doppleganger's attack.
aid another AC vs doppleganger: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

![]() |

Sirius follows up by tossing a chakram...
chakram, melee penalty: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
...that probably just winds up neatly shelving itself behind the bar.

![]() |

Seeing yet another ally fall to the ground, Hosser throws up his hand, and more light washes over the party.
Selective channeling to not heal the dude we're fighting

"Why are ya tryin' to burn the damn builing down? Hosser snaps as he starts sliding towards the stairs.

"Umm...inn-sewer-ants?"
"That, and this walking candlestick who just tried to kill me, of course...."

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Doppelganger Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
The doppelganger hesitates, and Janus takes the opportunity hit it with their direflail. *SPLASH!*
Sirius shelves his chakram, while Hosser revives Andolyn.

Damn, that is one tough doppleganger! I have moved on the map to where I strike from - again, assuming Andolyn steps up and makes the flank happen. Team, the doppleganger cannot take AoOs until Januses' next turn. So Jurno, you might want to take your chance to get up and go!

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Damn, that is one tough doppleganger!
Doppelganger ranger you mean. ;) I'll start bottling folks tonight. Bots automatically give all their equipment to the next active PC in the initiative order. It's a rule I think.

![]() |

I think the first hit missed, taking her to -5, then the channel back to 4hp

![]() |

Sorry about not moving the token. Figured the doppelganger stayed still again.
"Asmodeus almighty, why aren't you dead yet?"
Andolyn does, indeed, step up and attack.
Longsword: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 2 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

The World's Most Interesting GM |

I think the first hit missed, taking her to -5, then the channel back to 4hp
Actually, after Hosser channels, Jurmo is back up to a full 7 hp after since Rending Claws wouldn't have triggered. That said, she is still prone on the countertop.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

"Asmodeus almighty, why aren't you dead yet?"
Andolyn does, indeed, step up and attack.
After shouting quite possibly the worst 'quip before a kill-shot' in action history, Andolyn lays low the fiendish shapeshifter who falls to the floor like so much warm tar.

![]() |

"FINALLY! Ramyla, you alright?"
I definitely didn't expect that to be the killshot upon writing the dialog. Looking back, yeah, that's a REALLY bad quip.

![]() |

"Careful how you pick your poison; there's been something going around...."

![]() |

Janus casts Detect Poison, looking at Ramyla’s drink.
WIS check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
They warn Ramyla if poison is detected. Not sure that everything here isn’t some kind of poison though.
”You should not consume anything that your ‘assistant’ touched. It will likely be fatal. This is how Bosk and Clovesh died.”

![]() |

Jurmo continues to lie on the bar, hands moving over the shredded section of her dress. 'I almost died right there.'

![]() |

”We are saving your life; but if you are ready to make your Journey, we shall not intervene again.”

![]() |

"Timinic sounds like a nice guy. I'm not a nice woman. I get the job done and go back home. I advise you don't drink, well, any of the alcohol in here. Go home. Take the day off."
And with that, Andolyn turns from the barkeep and begins searching the body.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

DA LOOT!
The doppelganger does not have much that is not doppelganger on it. It only seems to have worn a belt strung with small pouches and a few spaces for potion vials, and one earring--everything else was just the creature's own body.
An empty green glass vial.
A pouch with a fine white powder in it that gives off a strong scent of vinegar that reminds everyone of Pemak's house, and the previous murder scenes.
Ten locally minted gold pieces.
Anyone else looking over the body?

![]() |

With Ramyla seemingly safe for now, Janus will also look over the doppelganger's remains and items.
appraise: 1d20 ⇒ 12
perception, take 10: 10 + 11 = 21
"A potion of invisibility. Most useful, but these creatures hardly need such magic. There is enough evidence here to convince us that this was Bosk and Clovesh's killer. Ramyla, bear witness. Here are poisons sufficient to kill - and your drink was tainted by them.
We should inform the authorities. But we still do not know the creature's motives, nor if it was working alone. There may be more doppelgangers in the city."
Wouldn't alcohol ALWAYS detect as poison? Just, y'know, of the recreational variety
Almost certainly - I was aiming for the DC20 WIS check mainly.

![]() |

The bauble is scarcely sooner seen than snatched by Sirius.
"What's this? Something for our trouble?"
Appraise: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
"Something, at any rate," He shrugs.

![]() |

"Show us this entrance. And the note. Whatever Timinic was doing drew unwanted attention on you and him."

![]() |

"Do you happen to have any of his work? A map or something? If not, I say we go get it from Timinic before heading down. No sense getting lost in the sewers if there happens to be more than one of these stupid doppelgangers, right?"

Ezren the Previously Generated |

"Miss Ramyla, I don't wish to alarm you, but I think it may be best for you to lay low for a day or so. As Andolyn points out we can't know for certain whether more doppelgangers--or even rather more mundane assassins--are involved. If you were targeted once you could be again, please take precautions."
Ezren expresses fierce agreement with retrieving Timinic.

![]() |

Jurmo sits up, hops off the bar and walks over to where she left he shot glass. 'Heck of a first day, hears to a better afternoon.' She throws is down in one quick swallow.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

After a 40 minute jog through icy streets, north to the wharf district along the Dagger River, the party finds itself confronted by a maze of shanty hovels clustered like brine about the larger fisheries and warehouses. After a few minutes determining which fisherman's shack is which along the waterfront's broad sweep the party homes in on one cottage down a snaking alleyway, behind a large fishery. The rickety overhanging roofs to both sides seem to funnel the steady sleet down upon to the group.
The cabin features sturdy wooden walls, with thick glass in its two small steam-clouded windows.

![]() |

Janus peers through the window.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
"Perhaps we should knock, Andolyn."
Remember we should identify ourselves as 'Guardians of the Open Roads' to let Timinic know we are pathfinders.

![]() |

"We did think that, yes. We are Guardians of the Open Roads. You are Timinic?"
Janus activates their Wand of Heightened Awareness. If combat breaks out in the next 10 minutes, expend the spell for +4 to initiative. Janus makes the gnome their Studied Target.

Timinic |

"Suresuresure! Comeincomeincomein! Areyoutheextractionteam? I'venevermetanextractionteam. What'sitlike? Hmm?" He invites everyone in through the window, remembers there is a door, opens the door, and invites everyone in that way. Then he remembers that there is a table blocking the small foyer and moves it to the side. The place is a narrow crowded ramshackle but surprisingly clean. "WhereamIbeingextractedtoo?"

![]() |

"Oh, well. You're not being extracted just yet. It seems somebody has a hitlist. You were on it. It all seems linked to the work you did in the sewers out of the Dripping Wall. Mind if we look at the maps you made? What part of it could have given the society some trouble."
Andolyn very clearly is leaving out the details of the deaths.
