Ezren had the good fortune to gasp as the bomb sailed his way, so he had a good lungful of air in him that minimized his need to inhale whatever foul substance poured forth from the device. Deciding to try and clear the way, the wizard dropped his cane and whispered the intonations of a spell. Extending his hand forward sheets of fire shoot forth, hopefully consuming any thugs waiting outside the cloying gas.

I'd like the have the first square be directly east of Ezren, so that the widest part of the cone doesn't catch Andolyn. Two squares of space affected would just splash uselessly against the north wall but I'm fine with that.
Burning Hands (Ref16): 4d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 4) = 12

Spell complete, the mage turns and staggers past Hosser into the clean air outside the narrow hall, taking several deep breaths and trying to plan his next move.

Hosser will rush forward out of the cloud. I believe the cloud, providing cover, would prevent any attacks of oppurtunity He channels positive energy which should get everyone, except possibly Ezren. I will select out orange and green.

Careful of the readied attack!

He doesn't believe in 'game balance'. Gandalf always lets him pass. As a feat, he has Exotic Weapon Proficiency (beard). The city guard often question him, just because they find him so interesting. His dice bag is woven from tarrasque leather. His TPKs end game lines. His blood cures moderate wounds. He once punched a flumph. Yes, you heard me. He belongs to a prestige class whose sole requirement for entry is just being him. ♬ He is indeed, the most interesting GM in the world. ♬

Jurmobot's reflex save v bomb splash: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Orange's reflex v burning hands: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

The man blocking the way screams as the flames engulf him. He topples to the floor.

Only total concealment prevents AoOs, so had the assassin survived the burning hands he would have gotten an AoO vs Hosser, albeit with a 20% miss chance. Technically the saves should be Reflex first and then Fort (the order in which they were presented), but we'll let it slide--this time.... Ezren doesn't get the healing because he has hard cover from the epicenter of the channeled burst, and Janus 2 is out of range.

The rest of the rooms in the complex turn out to be barracks. While most of the real exits to the place lead up to concealed exits in the town above. The place now obviously raided, you doubt any remaining assassins in this new guild will want to return.

The lab stuff spread over the southern table gives off some strong odors chief among them that burning vinegar smell you remember smelling at Pemak's place and on Bosk as he suffocated to death in front of you.

So what's next for the Pathfinder Society? Timnic is the only other local Pathfinder besides Bosh who is dead. Timnic doesn't want to stay in the area (for obvious reasons) and doesn't even seem to want to continue on as a Pathfinder after the party lied to him about Bosh and Sgt. Clovesh. That will leave the Dryblade House Lodge vacant, and without such allies or home base make future work in the River Kingdoms even more hazardous. Also, there is the matter of the assassinations in the upper echelons of Daggermark's army (the largest in the River Kingdoms). The military is usually immune to such treatment--hence it is so large.

"I can't leave the Cready Ranch, and it'd be nice not to be cut off from the Society at large."

I vote we keep the gnome in.

"...When did I say anything?!?"

After a second's awkward pause:

"I suppose I should say something now...which is...that it should probably be up to Timinic whether he stays or leaves. We can't expect anyone to make a good Venture-Captain whose heart isn't in it, but only he would know. If not, maybe he knows someone else who could make a better successor? Losing a Lodge here would blow."

"The people of this land likely need you here. There's nobody else to run the lodge, and there won't be anybody here until we report back and Ambrus or Zarta or somebody sends someone else up. We need not loose our holds. We have so few worth upholding. Please stay with the society, at least until somebody can come take the hold from you. Unless, of course, you're aware of an oath you broke. If so, let's just get you out of here under the cover of this stupid storm."

With that, Andolyn's scarred face offers a mildly believable smile as she pats the gnome on the head and leaves.

Utterly incompetent. Goes into Daggermark sewers, of all places; sees humanoids skulking around, concludes that they are a new subterranean species instead of the obvious fact that they're just bad people doing bad stuff. Gets found out, probably through making little or no effort to cover their tracks. Causes their VC to break an oath. Can't fight. Sheesh.

btw, when Janus says 'we' here that's indicating Janus and Janus Too, rather than any imperative for the rest of the party.

First, I've gotta figure out how. That's a big mod for a -2 penalty. Alright, fighter.... Nothing. Masked Maiden.... Okaaay. Feats? Traits? Hmm....

Bosk ain't coming back.... And technically you are to take Timnic back to the Grand Lodge. He returns only if convinced to do so at this point.

Janus is only one voice - if the rest of the party (or just Andolyn) convince Timinic to remain a Pathfinder that's cool. Janus will be telling the Ten exactly what they think of the useless gnome, but disciplinary matters are above Janus' pay grade ;)

"Janus," Sirius begins, not looking at Janus or Janus or Timinic as he speaks but instead at the bodies of the fallen as he loots them blind, "If you wish to volunteer for the position yoursel...ves, be my guest. Hell, you might actually be good at it. If you can think of someone...or someplural...else to nominate for the job, name it. Otherwise, what's the harm in wishing the default nominee here fair winds, and letting him fly or flounder thereafter on his own merits without you being a Negative Nasreddin?"

If that's worth some kind of roll targeting somebody, you may roll it for me, DM.

Stroking his chin, Ezren eyes the gnome skeptically. "Hmm, I can't say Timinic displayed much leadership potential, and running a Lodge is hard work. I think all parties would be more content with Timinic remaining at the lodge but focusing on his research, while another handles the administrative duties of Venture Captain"

The wizard snaps his fingers, as though some sort of decision had been reached. "I fully support Janus remaining here to guard the Society's interests in the meantime. I think I may join him in this."

In the end, Timnic agrees to remain on in Daggermark as acting Venture-Captain. He is to have the help of Igor at least at first (to lend the gnome a hand from his extensive private collection).

Meanwhile, back in Daggermark the last of the renegade assassins' cabal are hunted down by the reigning Assassins Guild. At the same time members of the military who looked to have gained their positions via the cabal's aid flee the region hoping to avoid a similar fate. And after a few weeks it is back to business as usual in the anarchic city-state.

Deep beneath the streets, in the former assassins' lair, a vaguely humanoid creature adapted for life in the dark sewers takes an enthusiastic bite out of one of bodies left behind by the party.

On his way out of Daggermark, Sirius has time for one last caper:

"Crazy times, aye, untouchables gettin' touched but good 'n all?" Inquires a chatty burglar Sirius meets atop some roof or another.

"These are indeed days of shifty wind...Say, friend, any chance Local's accepting new associates?"

"No sah. Now's no time ter be op'nin yer arms to strangers 'round here. More t' the pointy, Local don't want more bodies t' keep track of just yet. Bad luck, sah."

"Bah, I can make my own luck well enough. Sometimes, all it takes is helping to guide others in their own - speaking of which, are you hungry?"

"Ter be honest, sah, I ain't et more'n a few crumbs in days, with a flagon of Dripping Wall's cheapest t' tides me over. Crazy times AND lean times. S'no good. Where's this 'opportunity' what's supposed t' come wiv crisis?"

"Well, my friend, sometimes you must stray from the roads you know to find it. You and I, for example, we're clearly both roofrunners born and bred, but sometimes I test my limits in other strata...like the sewers. Nasty business down there, but it's not all bad. Just happens there's a lovely, lovely bit of big, tender, succulent, not-at-all-smelly mushrooms at around this intersection..."

Bluff, DC 18: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

"Mushrooms? Big, tasty ones?!? Gefarg it, I'll takes what I kin get...I hear some of'm kin leave ye with visions of wisdom, or even give ye the strength of a man twice yer size! Thanks for the tipoff! I kin get down there, have me a little feast, 'n get back 'afore next bell!"

"It IS nasty business getting there, mind you...you might want someone to hold onto anything you want to keep spotless...."

"Ah, well, alls I got that precious right now is me own Guild token for the Local. 'Ere, keep a good eye on it, and don't you move from this roof 'till next bell!"

"Fair winds to you, good sir, wherever you're sent...."

Sirius waits on the roof. The next bell comes...and then the next...but not the haggard guildsman, leaving Sirius holding a pristine token for the local guild that likely no longer has an owner....
