Horn pushes the man down on his back, sinking his fangs deep into his throat, his claws ripping at his armor, tearing away at his skin. Blood and guts spill on the snow and on Horn's white fur. The bear clenches his jaw tighter and tighter until the last spasms of agony of his gurgling victim space and finally stop.
Linge casts her gaze away from the violent assault with a shiver, and readies a stone to help Garran with his bandit.

Linge Hagebak |

Though Garran's wound is quickly bandaged by expert hands, the cut is deep and the cleric doesn't open his eyes. Linge had not readied a healing spell before the group set off: a mistake, as it were.
"Has anyone a healing spell ready?" the druidess asks. She rummages through her bag. Now where did she stack those paper sheets? "If not, I can write one... I still remember the formula... I think."
If there is no other alternatives, Linge could scribe a Cure Light Wounds spell (I think you can scribe any spell that you know, which means it's not necessarily a prepared spell?). The only problem being that it would still cost 12,5 GP, and so far I only have 7. Linge is quite broke ^^"

Sigrun Barstad |

Once the bandits are down, Sigrun moves quickly to help Garran however she can, which isn't much. "Healing magic? No, I don't think I can do that." Ceding the care of the downed cleric to Linge, she instead heads over to the campfire and looks around, both for anything else the bandits may have left behind and to assess whether or not it'd be safe to camp here.

survival, I guess: 1d20 ⇒ 7

Paldo Greenspan |

Paldo opened his spell book. “Ya... these will only make things worse for poor Garran. I can’t help him much.”

GM My Black Midnight |

sorry, didn't realize you were waiting on me. yes you can scribe any spell you know, but it takes time and gold to do it.

Linge Hagebak |

"Once I've gathered the proper items, we should move away from the fire and find a hidden place where the bandits can't see us... It's going to take me some time to write the spell down."
If we use the 20 SP we found, Linge has 9 GP. Any of you guys can lend an additional 4 GP? ^^"

Paldo Greenspan |

Looking into his coin purse Paldo had more than enough to cover the expenses. Normally he would wait for someone else to be willing to part with their gold but looking at Garran passed out in the snow his blood crimson against the snow Paldo felt bad and handed Linge 5 gold pieces. ”Here you go. Let’s get him back on his feet shall we?”

Linge Hagebak |

Assuming that all goes well...
After they've moved to a safe spot, Linge sits cross-legged on the floor, scribbling some undecipherable words on a sheet of paper. Whether she's writing in Druidic or her handwriting is simply atrocious is impossible to guess. Though, in her defence, trying to write on one's knee while preventing the paper to get soaked wet does not make things easier.
It seems to last an eternity before the druidess finally traces the last letter and stands up, grimacing as her joints crack.
"Right! Now, let's heal those wounds!" she says in a voice a little too cheerful to be honest. She clears her throat, raising the newly made scroll to eye level. Despite her best efforts, the letters are shaky looking, and there's a small ink blot in one place. She casts the spell, silently praying for it to work. If it's not infused with enough magic to cure Garran completely... Well, she has no backup plan.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Welp. It was a good idea while it lasted

GM My Black Midnight |

2 hours later, a scroll is written and ready. with everyone waiting with baited breath, Linge casts the spell... and nothing happens. on closer look a few of Garran's wounds look better, but he is not strong enough to get up

Paldo Greenspan |

Paldo moved his hand over his mouth. “Oh dear...”. He muttered. “Well we may have to rest again before going any further.” Gulping reluctantly Paldo added “Perhaps I can go ahead and scout out this house. We may also want to keep a watch in case anyone comes looking for these guys”.
“Hopefully enough snowfalls to cover this blood.” he thought to himself.

Linge Hagebak |

Well, since Garran agreed to lend his money I can make another scroll.. This one should be enough!
Refusing to give up, Linge searches Garran's pockets and backpacks, hoping he would have some healing item she could have missed.
"Maybe we won't have to," the druidess suddenly says and her face lightens up. "He's got enough materials for a second scroll, and I have another parchment paper!"
Garran if you changed your mind please feel free to cancel my action! :) I don't want to take your gold against your will...
A couple hours later, Linge casts the spell confidently. The light that shines from the scroll is much stronger than before, and Garran's wounds close.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

GM My Black Midnight |

Assuming people are cool with lending some gold and letting things get back on track.
the group makes use of the bandits' campfire to warm themselves for a while, and even find some rations to heat over the fire. they keep an eye out, but are lucky enough that no more bandits come to relieve the group that was killed.
Linge finally gets a scroll written on some mostly dry paper, and is able to heal Garran enough that he wakes up and is able to function.
now what? you are all ok now, but it is only a matter of time before the rest of the bandits find out that their sentries are dead. do you need a rest before moving forward? or do you press for the element of surprise on the rest of the bandits?

Garran Oakthorn |

Garran's eyes flutter open as the second wave of healing suffuses his body, knitting his wounds and restoring his strength.
"Ow." He groans. "What happened" Then he winces, remembering his last few seconds of consciousness. Looking around, he says, "I guess we got 'em then." The cleric lurches to his feet.
"Iomedae lend your strength, that we may persevere..." Garran raises his holy symbol and channels a burst of healing light.
Channel healing: 1d6 ⇒ 6
"Ah, much better. Shall we move on then?" The cleric's bravado is a little forced, it seems.

Sigrun Barstad |

Sigrun is a bit surprised and concerned. "You were just almost dead, and you want to continue on now? I guess we could, but are you sure you don't want to rest a bit? I have a feeling that things are only going to get tougher from here."
I haven't spent any spells or abilities yet, so I can go on...but I'm a bit worried about Garran's 0 spells left.

Linge Hagebak |

"I still have energy left," Linge argues, stifling a yawn. b]"But they might be expecting us, and you've lost a lot of blood. I don't think it's wise to go on if you can barely stand."[/b]

GM My Black Midnight |

after a bit of discussion it is decided that despite some injuries in the last fight the group is prepared to move on.
not far from where the campfire and bandits were sitting, you find a clearing with a decent-sized building. it looks to be a two-story lodge build from sturdy timber and stone. there is a thin line of smoke rising from the chimney. to the sides of the main lodge are a small stable with 3 horses and an outhouse. to the opposite side of the lodge you can see that the ground gives way to a steep gorge with a small rope bridge spanning the chasm.
map updated

Linge Hagebak |

The clearing is quiet, but Linge is not reassured. Based on what she heard from the bandits, the building is probably filled with thugs.
"If we want to create a diversion, maybe we can try to cause a racket in the stables... I wonder how many of ruffians there are inside. I can go take a peek, if you'd like."

Paldo Greenspan |

"We should definitely check this place out before we attempt an assault. I am small enough to not be noticed, I will take a look myself. I will be back."
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Paldo moved easily through the snow to the windows on the North side of the small house.

Garran Oakthorn |

Garran hunkers down in the snow; shield on his left arm, in his right hand the hilt of his sword. The point of the weapon rests on the ground under the snow, while he waits for the very brave Pauldo to finish his reconnoiter.

Sigrun Barstad |

Sigrun stands near Garran, shield at the ready, while they wait for the halfling to return. While she keeps looking around, seemingly keeping alert for ambushes, she definitely can't see much through the snow built up on her helmet.
perception: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (4) - 4 = 0

GM My Black Midnight |

as you approach the building, you spot one human, presumably another bandit based on his outfit, standing on the front porch of the lodge. he does not seem to spot Paldo at all
looking in that window you see a small room, 10' by 15' with a bed, a chest and a bookshelf. there are multiple doors leading into the room, all are closed. no one is inside the room at this moment.

Paldo Greenspan |

Paldo closed his eyes and pointed his finger back towards Sigrun.
Sigurn is able to hear Paldo's voice as a soft but clear whisper.
"There is a guard on the porch there. However this first room is clear."
Moving forward Paldo contiuned to check the remaining windows.
I didn't specify before but I will check all the windows at the back of the cottage. I positioned Paldo at the last window but assumed he would have checked them all along the way. Including the first two on that side.

GM My Black Midnight |

you move past each window, trying to get a look in without being spotted. you see two more bedrooms, both without anyone in them currently. the far western room appears to be a kitchen, where a half-orc woman is washing dishes. the far east room looks to be a very large room but you can only see a portion of it from that window. you see at least one more person in there, and light like a fire inside.

Paldo Greenspan |

Moving towards the trees to the west Paldo remained hidden to see what was around the front of the house.
Was the woman in the kitchen armed?

GM My Black Midnight |

you don't see anything more from that point. if you want to get a closer look at the house from another angle, make another stealth check as you approach.
The woman was wearing leather armor and looked to have some weapon at her belt, along with some knives

Paldo Greenspan |

Feeling like he would be exposed out front too far from his companions Paldo moved back through the safety of the trees to his eagerly awaiting friends. “So we have that guard there on the porch as well as one inside the room there. I noticed a half-orc woman in the kitchen; and well armed I should say..”
“I might be able to distract that guard somewhere using the sounds of an animal or something and we could setup an ambush.” Paldo offered.

Sigrun Barstad |

Sigrun nods at the halfling as he returns and reports. "Sounds like a good idea. Where should we go?"

Paldo Greenspan |

Paldo whispered ”Position yourselves behind that outhouse (H2) and I can make some animal noises.”

Garran Oakthorn |

Garran nods, then whispers. "We should probably expect the rest to follow. Fighting is usually noisy business."
Then he considers the layout more closely. "I think I'll stay here. They'd probably see me when I crossed the path to get over there."

GM My Black Midnight |

the group prepares themselves for an abmush
Make sure you position your pawns! Paldo where do you want to make a sound?

Sigrun Barstad |

whoa, just looked at the map and it's quite a bit bigger than I'd imagined.
Sigrun moves near the outhouse as quietly as she can, getting ready for the coming fight.

Paldo Greenspan |

Paldo concentrated trying to remember the scratching sounds made by wild dogs late in the night desperate for scraps of food attempting to get into the shed in their backyard of his house. He projected that noise towards the outhouse hoping the nearby guard would hear...

GM My Black Midnight |

Everyone over by the outhouse please make a stealth check if you are trying to keep hidden
the man on the porch starts walking slowly towards the outhouse, bow loosly drawn.
he calls something back into the lodge and another man walks out to take his spot on the porch
