Though Linge's sense are alert, all she can hear is the crunching of the group's feet on the snow. The gully's quiet beauty would have been enchanting if it were not so completely out of place. At this time of year, she would have expected to hear the chirping of birds, the buzzing of insects collecting pollen from sweet-scenting flowers, and small mammals scurrying away, frightened by the heavy steps of an intruder.

Instead, there is nothing but unnerving silence as they move between the frost-bitten trees, a few patches of green here and there still showing foliage buried under the snow. All insects, she suspects, are dormant or dead due to the sudden drop of temperature. The consequences of this climate shift are terrifying to think about.

As her mind wanders towards increasingly anxious thoughts, her peripheral vision suddenly catches a flash of white. A blink later, and it is gone. Yet as Linge surveys her surroundings, squinting through the blowing snow, she sees something again. It's nearly indiscernible, and doesn't make a noise, but it's moving too unnaturally to be mere drifting snow.

Drifting snow, for instance, would go in the same direction as the wind.

"There's something there... I don't know what that is."

"I don't see anything but snow." As much as she squints, Sigrun can't make out whatever is there. Still, she readies her shield, preparing for whatever may come.

Knowledge Arcana DC 13:

the creature is a Tatzlwyrm, a smaller cousin of a dragon. it is immune to sleep and paralysis and likes to single out an enemy to constrict and attack with poisonous breath

Linge audibly gasps when she spots the creature once again. The last time she saw the like of it, it was in her mother's story books -but the small shape of the beast and its white, shiny scales

"A Tatzlwyrm! Watch out, its breath is poisonous and it can constrict you like a snake!"

She has but a few seconds to react before the beast pounces on one of them. The druidess extends one hand in the direction of the Tatzlwyrm, and pronounces a single word of power. A bright light suddenly flashes from her fingertips, piercing through the snow like a knife through hot butter. She hopes it will be enough to scare the creature -possibly make it flee.

Cast Flare to dazzle the Tatzlwyrm. Fortitude Save, DC 14.

As she tries to recall everything she knows about Tatzlwyrms, the particular details of the story of Jaakko the magician's apprentice suddenly come back to her mind. She used to be so scared as a child, listening to her mother reading her the story, as Jaakko was struggling to get rid of the beast, and the spells that had worked on ruffians and wild animals had no effect on the creature.

"Spells like Sleep won't work," she warns. "And it can't be paralyzed!"

Does Horn (Linge's bear) get to act during the surprise round, too?)

Linge takes a hasty step back, and grabs her sling hastily. The bear cub on her side finally spots the creature, and lets out a low, threatening growl. "Attack" is all that the druidess has to say before he starts moving closer to the Tatzlwyrm, standing between the beast and Linge.

Although Paldo’s magic kept him warm, it didn’t stop the small pellets of snow from whipping into his face stinging his eyes as he strained to keep them open. He mostly kept his arm in front of his face looking for the larger footprints of his companions to step in hoping they knew where they were going. Suddenly he was alert, everyone shouting around him. The creature struck fast before Paldo could react. Paldo could barley make out the creature as it wrapped itself around Horn sinking its teeth in. Paldo cursed as he readied his staff sling. He pulled back on the leather string after putting a cold metal bullet in its cradle. As he aimed, the snow and the blur of battling creatures made it impossible to pick a target. He released his grip, he dared not risk hitting Horn. Paldo chose not to shoot into the melee and did not think any of his spells would help at the moment. Instead watched as the creature tried to feed on his friends furry companion.

Some housekeeping reminders to start with, before we get too lax about it. you are moving into an increasingly snowing area. the conditions listed byt he previous GM are still in effect and will likely continue to be in effect for quite some time (or get even worse!)
This means all snowy tiles are difficult terrain, which will limit speed, prevent 5' steps, and prevent charges. it also gives a -4 to ranged attack rolls and sight-based perception.

Sigrun is able to break out of the creatures grasp, but is unable to move away because of the slick snow under her feet.

Glim throws a bomb at the creature, but cannot get a good target on the creature, trying to hit a white beast in a white environment.
your attack roll was a 14. -4 for snow, -4 for targeting an engaged enemy.

Garran tries to take advantage of the distraction that Linge is providing from the other side; slashing at the beast again.

The situation starts to look dire. Linge's heart is pounding in her ears as the poor Horn finds himself in a dangerous position once again.

"Garran, can you heal us? she asks, trying to help the bear cub to extricate himself from the beast's grasp.

@paldo, ok that makes sense. didn't realize it was a melee touch sicne the token hadn't moved. you should all be able to move tokens, if you can't let me know and I'll make sure permissions are set properly. or tell me where you want to move and I'll shift your token if you're on mobile and having trouble doing it yourself

so the creature was fatigued for one round, which means Horn took one less damage

Sigrun relaxes as the rest of the group seems to have the situation at hand. Still leaking blood from her wounds, she kneels down with one hand supporting herself on the rocky cliff face. So this was how real combat went - every moment a situation of life or death, not just beating up a training dummy or trading light blows with a sparring partner. She thinks to herself, I'll have to be more careful from now on. What a horrible story it would have been, to fall at the claws of the first beast we saw...

Finally wearing down the beast's defenses Garran and Glim are able to land decisive blows and the wyrm falls to the snow. the party is banged up, but all are alive. the snow in the gully absorbs any sound, instantly making the area strangely quiet as soon as the conflict ends.

No sooner has the wyrm's lifeless corpse touched the ground that Linge rushes to Horn's side. Dropping to her knees, the young woman quickly attends to the bear's wounds, wiping the sweat from her brow and the tears from her eyes.

Heal (Provide first aid): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Fortunately, her past experience as a healer clearly shows. With a clean bandage, and a few precise gestures to regulate the blood flow thanks to pressure points, the bleeding stops. Horn does not open his eyes, but his breathing is regular.

Linge sighs in relief. Tenderly, she strokes Horn's head, in an attempt to dry the tears that have wet his white fur. She takes out a compress from her bag, dampens it wih water from her flask and beckons Sigrun:

"Come, Sigrun. Let's clean up that blood."

Paldo looked at the blood stained snow around his companions. He found himself wishing he could do more to help the wounded, but he lacked any skills to tend to them. Instead Paldo investigated the corpse of the terrifying yet majestic creature that attacked them. He finds it's Dragonlike features fascinating, but soon feels sorry for Horn when he gets a closer look at the numerous sharp teeth in it's mouth. Paldo looks about the woods waiting for his companions to heal up and be ready to move out again.

"Iomedae's healing can be indiscriminate." Garran explains. "Make sure that the baby dragon is full dead." The cleric takes his own advice, chopping at the tatzlwyrm's neck in an effort to sever the head from the body.

Coup de grace: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 111d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Once that grisley chore is completed. Full round action. Garran raises his holy symbol high. "Victory has it's cost, paid in blood. Iomedae, let your valor restore our strength, and close our wounds, that we may fight again."

This time the flicker of illumination from Iomedea's symbol is more golden in color. Less like the flashing of polished steel and more like the warm rays of a pleasant mid-morning sun. The wounds of the injured begin to knit at once, while the pain subsides.

"That's a start." Garran raises his symbol once again; channeling the healing power of his goddess once more.

Horn's injuries close by themselves, leaving only a wound left by the wyrm's claws near his shoulder. After a few moments, he shivers, and suddenly raises his head, blinking as if waking up from a deep sleep. He looks at the party and the corpse of the creature with what can only be described as a confused look on his tiny face.

"Thank you, Garran. Do you need some rest? Glim? Paldo?"
