I will give Von one more day. I have been out with flu and holiday; then I will move to the next round.
Von-Dai Cress |
I was busy with the holiday and a stomach bug. Fun all around!
Von steps back from the mad lady, then cast a spell to try and force her to drop her weapon.
Casting Burning Disarm, DC 16 Reflex save.
Burning Disarm: 5d4 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 1, 3) = 10
GM_Grandlounge |
It is all good. I was in a similar situation.
Ref: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The force weapon bounces off the woman's armour; however the whip finds faults in her practiced defences. Unable to decipher the magic being cast on her, she drops her weapon. She picks up the sword (Aoo from Marcus), then attacks him.
Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 212d8 + 8 ⇒ (3, 5) + 8 = 16
The bold may act:
Enemy 29
Zel
Marcus
Zon
Marcus Stanic |
First the AOO then normal attacks.
Power attack
AOO
to hit: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18 damage: 1d3 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
to hit: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26 damage: 1d3 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
to hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 damage: 1d3 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Von-Dai Cress |
If she failed the saving throw, she still takes the damage, based on my read of burning disarm.
Von-Dai puts additional distance between himself and the woman and again casts a spell on her weapon, this time coating it in slippery grease.
Casting grease, DC 18 Reflex save or she drops her weapon. The spell persists for 6 minutes, during which time she must attempt the save every time she tries to use it or pick it up.
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
Zeltyieli swings his scarf at the figure, trying to strike it down.
Bladed Scarf: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
GM_Grandlounge |
Ok these are the tactics.
The warrior starts yelling for assistance before trying to run past you.
Take your AOOs then I will roll the sure-to-fail CMB.
Von-Dai Cress |
Did the warrior fail the Reflex save to not drop their sword with Grease? I'll make my sure-to-fail AoO attempt.
Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
AoO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
GM_Grandlounge |
As she run,s taking a hit from Marcus, Zel is able to get enough of a hit in to take her down. The warrior is on the ground bleeding out.
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
Weird, it was a 19 when I previewed.
Von-Dai Cress |
Von-Dai humphs, dismissing his grease spell. "Well, that certainly wasn't pleasant. I don't appreciate being stabbed. Are we questioning her, or letting her die?"
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
Zeltyieli says, "I can stabilize her and we can ask questions.. Though I think I'd feel better if she were bound."
GM_Grandlounge |
Tied up and stable, are you waking her with healing, or do you have another intervention?
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
Zeltyieli casts Stabilize as the others bind her, then begins to look at her wounds.
Heal (Treat Wounds): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
GM_Grandlounge |
Your captive wakes up. "Just kill me already. I have failed my mission."
Von-Dai Cress |
Von-Dai casts a spell, seeking any magical auras upon her.
Cast detect magic.
GM_Grandlounge |
"We are here to regain the power of Runelord as are right. We will soon uncover and retrieve what we need to."
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
Zeltyieli shakes his head, "Of course that's what they're doing --- and claiming a Runelord's power as their right." He takes a moment, then says, "Is there anything more you can tell us, or you not important enough to get any details?"
Von-Dai Cress |
Any magic auras from my spell?
Continuing to concentrate on his spell, Von-Dai nevertheless snorts. "Claiming you have the right to any Runelord's power is foolhardiness, at best. Furthermore, I have yet to see you or any of the Grey Maidens here demonstrate anything close to the necessary magical understanding to be capable of wielding a fraction of Sorshen's power. You meddle in forces that are beyond you, and you are fortunate that you and your sisters have not destroyed yourselves in your search."
Marcus Stanic |
"Yeah, my brother told me about Runelords, and they are bad news. Thinking you can trifle with them or even just their memories is not a good idea. I understand some of them still are out there sleeping after all these centuries. I mean poke the bear is one thing, but poke the Tarrasque? That's just idiotic. "
"But I get you're trying to be vague. I don't need vague, I need to know where this is happening. You will tell me, or you won't be happy. "
GM_Grandlounge |
re: magic there are 2 auras which you are able to determine belong to potion of cure moderate wounds and +1 longsword,
She also have 215 gp, masterwork full plate, masterwork heavy steel shield on her.
"The Runelords were powerful, but there are many powerful rules on Golarion. Some nations are ruled by actual gods. But Sorshen's power belongs to Korvosa. Look at the murals. Not only that, but she appeared to us. Once we pass the trial, we can return her power to Korvosa."
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
Zeltyieli blinks, "Sorry, what? Sorshen appeared to you? All of you?"
Von-Dai Cress |
A contemplative look appears on Von-Dai's face as he considers the Maiden's words. If Sorshen had somehow returned, this entire endeavor was likely to end with their mental enslavement, death, or possibly both. Not a particularly pleasant fate, to be sure. He did not doubt she was powerful enough to survive Earthfall - likely all the Runelords were - but perhaps she could be negotiated with. He didn't think she could be trusted in such a negotiation, however.
Aloud, he asked, "What is the trial? Why do you wish to bring her power back to Korvosa?"
GM_Grandlounge |
"Yes, Sorshen is here and walks among us. Yes, the others have seen her. The trail is to break the shackles that bind her soul to the lady of light. and I was close until you showed up. We want her to return home to overthrow the government and return Korvosoa to its glory."
Von-Dai Cress |
Von-Dai listened. He had heard rumors that Queen Ileosa had been deposed. Of course, he had also heard that she had nearly destroyed the city. These Grey Maidens must have been some of her followers. "So much conflicting information out of Korvosa these days. Rumors of a terrible plague and such. It's hard to know what's true and what's false. Tell me, did Sorshen say how her soul was bound to the Lady of Light?"
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
Zeltyieli watches quietly, waiting.
GM_Grandlounge |
"Wizard, you know of what you speak after Queen Ileosa's fall, many of us were left without purpose. Now we have that purpose. Once were are done here the maidens will be free to go home or serve with their sister in Magnimar. Sorshen seems to be afflicted with magic of the mind. She is distracted by lustful indulgences, easily bored and prone to melancholy. Once she is free of this, she will be back to her old self and ready to redeem Korvosa."
Von-Dai Cress |
"Can you tell us where Sorshen can be found? We have some experience dealing with similar magics of the mind, and may be able to help her break it."
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
Zeltyeli resists the urge to ask the flood of questions in his mind, What kind of magic can warp the mind of a runelord? Is it something about her nature and the magic that she's absorbed?
GM_Grandlounge |
The captured woman gestures up. Around the central column, you see a very narrow set of stairs. "She is up there."
Von-Dai Cress |
While Marcus gags the woman, Von-Dai goes to look over the documents and maps she was looking at.
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
Zeltyieli says, "It must be one of the clone bodies or something. I mean, there's no way we can handle a runelord."
GM_Grandlounge |
Von you find a large number of books, maps, and battle tactics on scrolls for how they plan to retake Korvosa from the current ruler. These plans are well thought out, detailed, and capitalize upon a number of flaws in Korvosa’s current defenses— they are quite valuable as a result, both to Korvosan agents (who would pay to keep them out of enemy hands while using them as a guide to shore up their defenses) or to Magnimarian government officials (who are always looking for advantages over their traditional Korvosan competitors). To either, this collection of notes is worth 10,000 gp.
Climbing the stairs you emerge into an ovoid, white marble chamber. It is an opulent, domed affair, with a ceiling of polished silver peaking twenty feet above. A pair of mosaic snake patterns decorate the floor to the north and south. Polished black marble pillars rise up along the edges of the room, metal manacles hanging from their inward-facing sides at a height of five feet. Articles of armor and clothing lie scattered on the floor, while to one side of the room an upraised platform sits a foot above the rest of the room. This platform is strewn with furs and blankets, and at its back near the wall sits an enormous canopied bed.
Sorshen, speaking to you in a seductive tone dripping with arrogance. She greets you, “Oh, this is a delicious surprise! Greetings, new supplicants, you’ve arrived just in time. My latest lost her allure when she lost her life. Perhaps you can keep me entertained a bit longer?”
Von-Dai Cress |
Before climbing the stairs
Von-Dai replies, "I doubt it to be one of the Clone bodies, unless someone died and somehow put their soul into the body itself. I suspect that, based on the description of her behavior, this person is wielding the Shard of Lust. I do not think Sorshen would be so foolish as to do so without properly preparing it, first, and her Enchantment magic is such that she would have no need of it, anyway. You are right that I do not think it Sorshen herself, but that does not mean we should not be prepared. Zeltyieli, do you have any spells to help protect the mind? If we can prevent one or two of us from being controlled by her, it would be most beneficial."
A Protection from Evil on Marcus, at least, before we go up would be ideal.
========================================================
"You must be the mighty Runelord Sorshen, then. May I ask what happened to your previous supplicant?"
Zeltyieli Alikathesu |
Zeltyieli blinks, the surprise preventing Sorshen's unspoken promises from landing, even as he takes in her tone. He opens his mouth to speak, but finds himself unsure of what to say, closing it with an almost audible click when Von-Dai responds instead, relief clear on his face.
GM_Grandlounge |
"Are you asking about one in particular, wizard? I have so many. Though there are fewer here since you started trapesing around here. Most have died, and many of age some have indulged their appetites until they perished. Others are as strong as the day we meet."
