Primketh darts forward and touches Tabin with guidance. As the elemental flashes with angry light, Tabin and Rolf instinctively glance away and their projectiles clatter harmlessly on the floor. The elemental swipes at the creature that dared touch the lever...

So I started this combat under the assumption that the elemental wouldn't be affected by Evil Eye. I actually can't find anything that says they can't be. They are more than animal intelligence, so they must have some sort of mental comprehension, right? Oh well... worth a shot. The crossbow isn't doing anything anyways...

Rolf furrows his brow and wrinkles his nose, annoyed at the ineffectiveness of his ranged weapon. He steps forward, past Primketh and Tabin in order to make sure the elemental can see him. The ulfen glares at the elemental, nostrils flaring and his face flushed. Evil Eye, DC 14 Will Save. Failure and he gets -2 to AC.

@Rolf - I have a witch, so I know how frustrating immunity to mind-affecting is. I will be very certain to tell you when something is mindless or otherwise immune to hexes.

As Jaeqil pulls the lever down, the gears of the machine behind it begin to spin. Jaeqil will beckon to his companions to steel themselves and open the door ahead of them.

Witch's Winter Holiday

The adventurers do not notice any noticeable changes in the dungeon as they leave the cell blocks behind. The unopened door is not locked, but is stuck.

Jaeqil Strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Jaeqil is able to persuade the door to open and reveal the room beyond. There can be little doubt what purpose this chamber once served. The dank room stores an ancient rack, a fanciful brazen bull, an iron maiden, a cauldron, iron chairs with sharp edges and cruel protuberances, and a wooden table upon which sit various implements of torture. A bronze plaque affixed to the western wall depicts a crowing rooster above crossed spears. Underneath the spear, a short phrase is inscribed: Confession Cleanses the Soul - Pain Clarifies the Mind.

A charming voice speaks, though no source is visible "Come, traveler," it croons. "You look weary. Rest yourself in one of the chairs provided here." Jaeqil feels a force behind the words...

Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

...and he marches over and takes a seat. As the chair cuts into his legs, his head clears and he sees (as does everyone else) a raven perched atop the rooster plaque. It clears its throat and addresses the group. "Greetings, fine citizens of your glorious empire! So good to have visitors, though I fear I have no refreshments to offer. I assume you are here for the treasure. Well, I'd be happy to assist - provided you give me what I require! It has been so long since I was able to ply my trade. I ask only that each of you shed your life's blood in this room - simply take a seat in one of my lovely chairs, as your companion has already."

Ok, so despite my player misgivings about doing something that is almost certainly written as a set up, and will definitely not be in the player's favor, I far prefer a good story to constantly winning everything and immaculate perfection. ”Rolf! Quick! Where’d you stash those daggers?” Primketh steps over to Rolf, looking for one of the mithral daggers. If he finds one easily enough, on Rolf’s belt or someplace easy… Primketh then hands a dagger to Tabin.

Basically I’m trying to use my move and standard actions to get Tabin armed with one of the mithral daggers, if that works. If not I’ll rethink my turn.

Witch's Winter Holiday

Looks fine to me Primketh.

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

Nice work Primketh! So now Tabin has one of the daggers, Rolf still has the other. Jaeqil - it would probably be best in your hands...

"Hahaha!" Rolf chuckles, his accent even affecting that sound. The echo of his voice is unnerving to the little devil. "See? I tell you that you weill not wein! Now we keill you and steill take treasure!" Move action to cackle.

"Jaeqil, here take theis dagger," Rolf draws the blade from his belt and holds it out for the plant-man. "Rolf eis strong, and speaks clearly for all to hear, but pearhaps you are stronger. Theis weill cut devil skin best!"

Standard action to draw second mithril dagger, hold it out for Jaeqil.

Lawful Good Halfling Fighter 2 (Sheet) (Equipment) | HP: 18/18 | AC: 17 (14 T, 14 F) | CMD: 14 | F: 5, R: 4, W: 3 | Init: 3 | Perc: 3 | Speed 20

Tabin puts his bow away and waits for the creature to make an appearance.

Male CN Ghoran Ranger (Dragon Hunter, Skirmisher) 1 | HP 21/22 | AC 18 T 12 FF 16 | CMB +4, CMD 16 | F: +6, R: +5, W: +2 | Init: +4 | Perc: +7, SM: +2 | Speed 20ft | Favored Enemy: Dragon +2 | Active conditions: None.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Jaeqil scowls as he flat-out ignores the dagger.

”I don’t need your help for this little pixie!”

He moves over to where he last saw the imp and swings with reckless abandon!

Greatclub: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Miss Chance (Miss on a 1): 1d2 ⇒ 2

Witch's Winter Holiday

Sting vs FF AC 16: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Piercing damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Jaeqil's club hits the ground as the imp reappears, its tail caught in the ghoran's vine-like hair. Pulling itself free, the imp cackles and shrieks, "Ball! Base! You will tell all! Clear the mind and cleanse the soul!"

Round 3! Bold may act!
Tabin (-4)
Rolf (-2)
Jaeqil (-3)
Primketh (-4)
Harzogopas (-2 AC 1/7)

Tabin should still have guidance active.

Primketh casts guidance again and moves around to touch Jaeqil to deliver the spell.
