Secret Charms of Sharn [Eberron, 5e] (Inactive)

Game Master Dreaming Warforged

Sharn beckons the strong and the weak with the hope of a better life. In the aftermath of the Last War, as entire armies are disbanded, new countries seek recognition, and old countries prepare for the Next War, every individual tries to find a new place in the new world, and leave the old wounds behind.

Male Shifter Cleric 4 - Herald Caller

Expansion on Ally, Contact, Rival.

Ally - Kavill - Reth pities the Investigator for being a Shifter and aids him as he can when not in service to the Darkstar as an unofficial member of the Church of the Flame when the Watch requires Divine aid.

Reth is an Ally out of a sense of loyalty to his kind, though he himself will not admit to that. He genuinely likes Kavill, in a way that he cannot bring himself to like himself due to the view his own clergy have of the Shifter race.

Contact - Elaydren Vorn - Always good to cultivate good relations with House Cannith and Vorn is one whom Reth has had the pleasure of dealing with since the Last War ended.

Reth utilizes Vorn as a contact as a way to get the Darkstar lucrative jobs for House Cannith. Vorn uses Reth to get a discount on said jobs. They make each other look good in the eyes of their respective superiors. It is mutual respect, at least Reth thinks it is.

Rival - Light - A clash of religious philosophy through several encounters in the city has created bad blood between Reth and Light for the past several years.

Their differences are philosophical in nature not ones that lead to blows, heated debates and nothing more. At least nothing more so far. Reth supposes that their rivalry is partially due to their unique histories, there are not many Warforged Clerics or Shifter's that worship the Flame, so by virtue of their uniqueness they cling to their faiths more strongly than similar clergy of other races.

---

Reason for the job - Reth is considering buying his way out of his mercenary contract with the Darkstar. To do that he will need side jobs that do not involve the Company.

---

Will work on and finish that build tonight.

Male Shifter Cleric 4 - Herald Caller

Changelings:
Do these seem to be the appropriate abilities of the Changeling in 5E DW?

Changeling Traits
Your changeling character has the following
traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score
increases by 2, and either your Dexterity or your
Intelligence increases by 1 (your choice).

Age. Changelings mature slightly faster than
humans but share a similar lifespan—typically a
century or less. While a changeling can
shapeshift to conceal their age, the effects of
aging still catch up to them.

Alignment. Changelings hate to be bound in
any way, and those who follow the path of the
Traveler believe that chaos and change are
important aspects of life. Most tend toward
pragmatic neutrality as opposed to being
concerned with lofty ideals. Few changelings
embrace evil.

Size. In their natural forms, changelings
average between 5 and 6 feet in height, with a
slender build. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Change Appearance. As an action, you can
transform your appearance or revert to your
natural form. You can’t duplicate the appearance
of a creature you’ve never seen, and you revert
to your natural form if you die.
You decide what you look like, including your
height, weight, facial features, the sound of your
voice, coloration, hair length, sex, and any other
distinguishing characteristics. You can make
yourself appear as a member of another race,
though none of your game statistics change. You
also can’t appear as a creature of a different size
than you, and your basic shape stays the same; if
you’re bipedal, you can’t use this trait to become
quadrupedal, for instance. Your clothing and
other equipment don’t change in appearance,
size, or shape to match your new form, requiring
you to keep a few extra outfits on hand to make
the most compelling disguise possible.
Even to the most astute observers, your ruse is
usually indiscernible. If you rouse suspicion, or if
a wary creature suspects something is amiss,
you have advantage on any Charisma
(Deception) check you make to avoid detection.

Changeling Instincts. You gain proficiency
with two of the following skills of your choice:
Deception, Insight, Intimidation, or Persuasion.

Unsettling Visage. When a creature you can
see makes an attack roll against you, you can use
your reaction to impose disadvantage on the roll.
You must use this feature before knowing
whether the attack hits or misses.
Using this trait reveals your shapeshifting
nature to any creature within 30 feet that can
see you. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it
again until you finish a short or long rest.

Divergent Persona. You gain proficiency with
one tool of your choice. Define a persona
associated with that proficiency: establish the
name, race, gender, age, and other details. While
you are in the form of this persona, the related
proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability
check you make that uses that proficiency.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write
Common and two other languages of your
choice.

Once that is confirmed, I will finish my build.

Not sure if there's confusion there or not, but Changelings and Shifters are different races.

Confusion indeed, I was tired last night, glad I did not try to build. The good news is that now I know the source doc is the correct one so I can finish my Shifter tonight.

Shifter or changeling?!? The text you put in spoiler was for changeling.

Male Shifter Cleric 4 - Herald Caller

Build:

Score -- Point Cost

Strength 8 - 0
Dexterity 15 - 5 +1 Dex
Constitution 12 - 4
Intelligence 10 - 2
Wisdom 17 - 9 +2 Wis
Charisma 15 - 7

Cleric 1. (Will finish in the morning). Sorry for the delay busy several days including today!

Shifter -

Your shifter character has the following traits.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score
increases by 1.

Age. Shifters are quick to mature both
physically and emotionally, reaching young
adulthood at age 10. They rarely live to be more
than 70 years old.

Alignment. Shifters tend toward neutrality,
being more focused on survival than concepts of
good and evil. A love of personal freedom can
drive shifters toward chaotic alignments.

Size. Shifters range from 5 to almost 7 feet tall,
depending on their subrace. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision. You have superior vision in dark
and dim conditions. You can see in dim light
within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light,
and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t
discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Keen Senses. You have proficiency with the
Perception skill.

Shifting. As a bonus action, you can assume a
more bestial appearance. This transformation
lasts for 1 minute, until you die, or until you
revert to your normal appearance as a bonus
action. When you shift, you gain temporary hit
points equal to your level + your Constitution
modifier (minimum of 1 temporary hit point).
You also gain additional benefits that depend on
your shifter subrace, described below.
Once you shift, you can’t do so again until you
finish a short or long rest.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write
Common.

Subrace. Wildhunt

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score
increases by 2.

Natural Tracker. You have proficiency with
the Survival skill.

Mark the Scent. As a bonus action, you can
mark one creature you can see within 10 feet of
you. Until the end of your next long rest, your
proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability
check you make to find the marked creature, and
you always know the location of that creature if
it is within 60 feet of you. You can’t use this trait
again until you finish a short or long rest.

Shifting Feature. While shifted, you have
advantage on Wisdom checks.

Indeed.

All right. enough waiting. Storyteller Shadow, at this moment, I'm no longer considering you interested. Please PM me if you're still interested in joining the game.

Let's start with two players. I'll contact people who applied for the game to see if they're still interested in joining.

I’m a big believer in PBP momentum as defined by number of posts per time period. Low momentum kills games. Considering RL priorities, more players increase momentum. I suggest to target 6 players if possible. IMHO

Cheers

True. But my experience also tells me that one 'very slow' player can stall things and make everyone disconnect.

I'll see who is still interested in joining.

Let’s have clear expectations about slow posting then, because I will have random slow posting periods due to work. And some times I won’t be able to post to predict when they happen.

You're right. My expectation is that we let each other know when posting is hard or impossible. I've no issues with people not being able to post. What's hard is when people wait not knowing what to expect.

OK. I’m in the eastern time zone. I post regularly and frequently on the weekend. During the week I can get overcome by work and my weekly RL game. I try to post at night, but occasionally get overwhelmed.

The two weeks after next, I need to travel during the week. So, posting will be random if at all.

Some times I can sneak in a quick post during the day from my phone. But it can’t be too complicated.

Cheers

Blacklock
Ally: Areyndee d’Phiarlan: male elf Phiarlan opera singer. During the War, Areyndee was one of our best customers, and even had a cut on the trade side, getting into markets our troops couldn't.
Rival: Dalia Dorian Korran: female gnome reporter for the Korranberg Chronicle. This little rat has been following me since the War, she thinks she knows our old smuggling routes and what I'm all about, but really she knows nothing.

Tharivol
Rival: Areyndee d’Phiarlan: male elf Phiarlan opera singer (rival). Older brother and competitor. He chose the well-heeled world of aristocrats, while I chose the information of the commoners.
Ally: Dalia Dorian Korran: female gnome reporter for the Korranberg Chronicle. I gave her the seed information for the story which became her big break.

Stitch
None so far.

Not sure which character Atlas is bringing.

Thar, we've potentially got a major connection through your brother Areyndee. Blacklock ran a lucrative smuggling operation as a solider in the Last War (since completely dried up), and Areyndee was at the end of the supply chain.

edit: warforged ninjad

Heh, thats funny. Kind of looks like Thar was the one who sold me out to the reporter.

Hi everybody!

Atlas2112 reportin' in!

I'm going with the Warlock for two reasons. 1) We seem a little meat-shield light. The Warlock is better for such operation because many of the class's's's'...'s spells work against direct melee attackers. Hence, he has a meat shield, he IS the meat shield, both work!

2) It seems like a theme might be "Life is gonna get REEL". Wolfgang has already lost a lot, and he has a long-range goal to focus on, so he's best suited to handle adversity.

Stitch<>Wolfgang<>Tharivol<<>>Blacklock

Murlock: Rival of both Stitch and Wolfgang.
Kavill: Contact of Tharivol and Wolfgang.
d'Phiarlan: Ally of Blacklack, Rival of Tharivol.
Korran: Ally of Tharivol, Rival of Blacklock.

Common NPC Connections:

Wolfgang
Contact: Kavill: male shifter Watch investigator. He has seen hints of that which I already know to be true. He is curious too in how to stop it. We learn from each other.
Rival: Max Murlock: male human private investigator. The fool is wholly ignorant of the reality of things. He seeks to hinder me, and dabbles in things best left to those of real power.

Blacklock
Allies, Contacts, and Rivals:
Ally: -Areyndee d’Phiarlan: male elf Phiarlan opera singer. During the War, Areyndee was one of our best customers, and even had a cut on the trade side, getting into markets our troops couldn't.
Rival: -Dalia Dorian Korran: female gnome reporter for the Korranberg Chronicle. This little rat has been following me since the War, she thinks she knows our old smuggling routes and what I'm all about, but really she knows nothing.

Tharivol
-Areyndee d’Phiarlan: male elf Phiarlan opera singer (rival). Older brother and competitor. He chose the well-heeled world of aristocrats, while I chose the information of the commoners.
-Dalia Dorian Korran: female gnome reporter for the Korranberg Chronicle (ally) I gave her the seed information for the story which became her big break.
-Kavill: male shifter Watch investigator (contact) I’m his confidential informant in the neighborhood.

Stitch
Rival: Max Murlock: male human private investigator. Has a pet theory that Stitch is a serial killer. For all Stitch knows Max could be right. Hopes not. Has really pushed the serial killer angle, writing: "Cutting apart victims with precise ruthless efficiency, has so far eluded the authorities by playing the simpleton, but keep your loved ones far away from 'Twitchy Stitch'!" The cause of Max's theory is rooted in a chance encounter where Stitch was trying to save a fatally wounded man in an alley, and Max stumbled onto Stitch hunched over him with bloody surgical tools coming out hand-joints. The man survived, but Max was long gone.

I suggest that some of these be revised. In particular when two characters have the same ally or contact. It might be more interesting for the group to have complementary and at odds links with NPCs than redundancies.

Kavill is a clear target for one of the characters to change and pick another. For Murlock, it depends. Two rivalries are not so bad. It might actually be quite good.

Also, some of the rivalries are a bit too one sided and could be more related to the characters. For example, while I see why Murlock might have something against Stitch, it's less clear why Stitch would have something against Murlock.

O, it should be both ways? Hmmmm...Stitch isn't much for grudges. I'll think on that.

Well, you could simply add a rival as well, while keeping Murlock. And rival does not necessarily mean hate. It can be other feelings that would make you do things if that person is involved. Jealousy, competitiveness, ungratefulness, etc.

Just suggestions.

Thinking Jim d’Jorasco: male halfling healer. Something like Stitch doesn't like that Jim charges for healing, thinks its immoral, and tries to undermine him by healing for free? (Had a similar idea with my other character proposal, the paladin)

Sounds great. Simple, yet makes perfectly sense. Not a big rivalry, but a tension. I like it.

Do we still need a change to the NPCs? It seems I can change away from my contact, Kavill. I can swap in:

-Nora ir’Roole: female human noble

Nora has known Wolfgang since he was young and always had a crush him.
Since he now seems to be estranged from his wife, she does not know why he will not at least acknowledge her interest, for yes or for no. She continues to try to be part of his life, helping him out with...whatever is going on with him, hoping that when he pulls it all together, she will be there to put all the pieces back together.
