"Uh, the threat is ended. The Way of the Sleeping Sword says, beware of no-one more than yourself, for we carry our worst enemies within us."

Sleeping Sword takes hold of the rope binding him to Kalkamedes, and ties it about his waist instead of his arm. "Uh, Lynn, when you are done with that 'gentleman of the road' do you have any magic that might make our friend here less enthusiastic to drag us around?"

The old monk then sees to his own wound. He withdraws from his pack a scroll, unfurls it, and assuming not subject to vigourous motion or other disruption from K casts the spell. A pulse of dark energy leaps from the vellum to Sleeping Sword's hand. He applies the energy to the gash in his leg, and a small sigh escapes his lips and the wound begins to mend.

From her position behind the tree Lynn readies a coil of rope, and turns over as she hears the man's footfalls approach rapidly. Just as the spell fades she burst out from behind the tree and throws the rope at the man.

As Lynn is the only uninjured member of our party, it looks like as good a time as any to use your positive Channel. Kala will use her two remaining castings of Cure Light Wounds on whoever needs it after that, with Stinky taking dibs.

Almaas dives for Kalkamedes and misses! Someone behind him barks out a laugh.

Lynn can instantly entangle her would-be suitor (though see the discussion thread for more about the rope situation).

It is going to be tough to concentrate with Kalkamede's tugging on you. Imagine an insistent 5 year-old at a toy store and then add about 130 pounds. It is of course possible to change this situation with **AHEM** help. Given a moment and a hand Sleeping sees faint magical auras about the men (or perhaps only red).

What is everyone doing for the next few moments?

If anyone actually does search the felled or captured brigands each has on his person: leather armor, a heavy crossbow with 20 bolts, a light mace or a sickle, a sap, an average of 13 gp, a tanglefoot bag, and a small stoppered potion container.

As Sleeping Sword tastes the potion he cries out in pain. There's a faint acrid smell, as the energies of the potion sear his cursed flesh. "Uh, positive energy! These potions are deadly to me! But they should heal you. Fortunately they are not so strong as to have caused me real harm with a mere taste, the magic is minor."

Cure Light Wounds potions.

How is everyone for CLW wands? I can activate them, as Lynn and Kala can, but don't carry one as I use Inflict spells for self-healing. Do you want to use the potions we just found now?

"Uh, speaking of positive energy, gather around close. By the light of Shizuru, Empress of Heaven, may your ills be soothed!"

After ensuring that there are no injured brigands nearby, and with the party and Kalkamedes gathered about, Sleeping Sword holds forth a wooden disk bearing the symbol of a drawn katana against a shining sun. With his prayer, light flashes forth from the sun-disk to touch and soothe the wounds of the living.

Angela takes a moment to stick her tongue out at the fleeing men in a very childish moment. Feeling better, she starts to rummage through the bodies, finding a few goodies. She rushes around to all the other men and gathers the supplies together. "Looks like there's quite a few supplies here. I could use some of the bolts, a tanglefoot bag and maybe a potion as well." Remember, because the way that wealth works in Pathfinder Society play that any gear you acquire from the brigands (4 sets available if Lynn rescinds her hold on bandit 5) only lasts until the end of this adventure and then if it is still there it disappears. If you take anything please track it separately from the possessions you started the game with. Maybe under a heading like Mission Gear in the space below your Combat Gear and Other Gear or similar.

After Sword's channel, 3 uses of a wand on Almaas, and one of Kala's spell on Stinky the party's hp looks like this:

Lynn then produces a wand after everyone is done drinking potions, "Alright who needs additional healing? Also good fight against that ambush, though I can't help but feel we may have missed something." The night continues to pass as Kalkamedes trudges onward.

The light of the sinking moon washes the sub-alpine valley ahead in silvery light. A squat, stone plateau crafted of dark rock, and weathered by time to the point it almost looks natural sits nestled among the low trees, its flat roof barely peeking out from above the leafy canopy. As a cloud passes over the moon, the entire structure seems to fade from view, leaving a momentary void before the moon’s light again
illuminates it. Only a single entryway mars the smooth, windowless facade of the lone building.

The structure strongly resembles the charcoal drawing you found in Kalkamedes' home and his last uneaten meal.

Kalkamedes seems to be leading the party straight for the entrance....

Thanks for the wand help Angela! I think Almaas is still looking for a Mage Armour via his own wand too :) (I deducted another charge from my own wand since Angela successfully activated it for me).

Lynn tapped at her chin, "Huh... I feel like i've seen something like this before, but I can't quite place it." She knelt down and set her pistol down quickly taking out a notebook and taking a scrawl of the writing as well as the star symbol. "Where.. have i seen this before. It's on the tip of my tongue." Once she had gotten everything down she put her book up and took up her arms again.

Does this linguistics check count as deciphering writing? or just understanding the language?

Angela looks over and sees that Almaas doesn't have his mage armor spell on him. "Almaas, do you need a mage armor spell? Lynn has your wand right? Just give me a second." The small halfling moves over and nudges Lynn's knee. "Mind if I borrow Almaas's mage armor wand? He'd probably enjoy having it up." You can open the latter spoiler if your PC speaks the language or makes the check. Likewise for the previous spoiler, if your PC is on good terms with the Venture-Captain (who talks about the damn thing ALL THE TIME), or your character has run up against the symbol before and understood it for what it is, or your PC can make a knowledge check to open that one as well.

Upon hearing Angela say something about the runelords it all snapped into place, "That's it! Thank you you knowledgable woman. That's the symbol known as The Sihedron Rune, it used to represent the seven virtues of the Thassilonian Empire. Eventually though it came more to be known as their seven vices, as the nation fell, i encountered it several months ago when exploring some ruins home to a Greater Barghast with some ties to the mighty runelords."

i double checked the chronicle and Angela is right we did have an encounter with that thanks for the reminder to be sure of what scenarios i've already taken part in. Also tell Monty and Faliana i miss them and they were super fun to play with!

A broad, lightless, smooth stone corridor set a couple of steps down from the entrance leads into the heart of the structure. A chill mountain breeze blows across the doorway creating a low moaning sound. At the base of the entrance steps, amid a pile of leaves and mud drawn there by time and the elements, Rhinshin and Almaas note a number of criss-crossing animal tracks made by something large coming in, and going out through the entrance.

"So, uh, sloth as a virtue, huh?" <yawns> "Perhaps there is something in that"

says the old monk as his gaze dwells on the somnambulist ahead.

Is it possible? That the Way of the Sleeping Sword may have some ancient connection to this forgotten culture? Surely not, for this is the other side of the world. But what if there is a common root, even older than the Way and this lost empire? No, the restfulness of the Way is not the lassitude of sloth. We do not master the Hunger by doing nothing.

That could make for a really interesting temptation/corruption/redemption story! Does that Runelord appear in any PFS-sanctioned content or scenarios?
