I removed the dead cadets from the battlefield.
Keep up the heat people! This is the BBEG......I know it's harrowing.
GM Dinketry |
Just to make sure I have your HP, SP, and RP correct at the end of this fight...
How'd I do in bringing y'all as close to total party death as possible?
Mallura Barbinis |
Holy cow I have no idea how we survived that. That's as close to a TPK as I've ever experienced in Starfinder! Definitely served as an appropriately intense conclusion to the whole Lt. Sharu saga.
Jeryn D'han Power |
I think JD may have had 1 RP left, will have to count. But yes, a little nerve wracking knowing that Sharu could have wiped Verne (or any of us really) with one hit.
GM Dinketry |
You took the buggy from Brilliance and a hover trike to the crash site. You all couldn’t fit on the buggy.
Jeryn D'han Power |
I agree we should head for the ship immediately. We have a few medical supplies we found just before the big baddie fight if we need them. I'm hoping we won't have to make any kind boarding action on the Azlanti vessel.
GM Dinketry |
Apologies - finding work-life balance a bit hectic right now. I'll get to this shortly.
GM Dinketry |
The rules for upgrading starships have undergone a good deal of editing since they were first released. The Starship Operations Manual has made things a bit clearer with some guidelines. I've gone ahead and upgraded the Brilliance how Jellik and Aibretta could have and would have, given what was available in the colony.
Your ship has made the leap from Tier 1 to Tier 3. I've updated it's stats in the Starship Statistics link at the top of this page. Read up!
GM Dinketry |
Starship combat has gone through some much-needed alterations since we started this campaign, and I've made a few specific to PbP posting.
Firstly, the opposed Piloting checks done at the top of the Helm phase are my rolls. I'll just let you know if you're going first or second in the Helm phase. Secondly, there are new ship-board roles (i.e. first mate, magic officer) that I'm going to suggest are off the table at this point. Lastly, please roll your damage with your gunnery checks. I'll manage to calculate things when it all occurs.
Thanks!

The map is configured to indicate the range of your sensors. Mid-range sensors can scan up to 10 hexes away. You cannot scan past that.

Mallura and Jarix - I was reading and re-reading the rules to look for something on sensors that would help y'all and critically failed my linguistics check....
Thank you both for the correction. And yes, a retcon is in order. I'll provide new rolls for the enemy as well.
In the meantime, as a genuine 'thank you' for helping me, I'd like to offer both Jarix and Mallura the Starfinder equivalent of a Hero Point for the assistance.
I'll get an updated first round of starship combat up in a bit.
Mallura Barbinis |
All good! Like I said, that was new information to me too, but I'm glad we were able to sort it out. Thanks for the retcon!
GM Dinketry |
Jarix, excellent map work, but I note that you only moved just over half your complement of movement (7 hexes - including two turns). You have 10 hexes of movement - do you want to use your full complement?
Awaiting Verne.
GM Dinketry |
You all might notice that the ship in question has moved without apparently taking into account turning radii. I'll simply state that the ship rolled a natural 20 on the Piloting check and pulled an interesting manoeuvre out of the playbook.

We're in a tough spot where the Gunner is also the engineer. How do you guys want to handle this? Should JD balance the shields or fire? Or should we have Verne focus on the shields so we have a dedicated gunner? Or have Mal shoot?
I am concerned that they are firing both weapons and we'll only be firing one. Any opinions?
Jeryn D'han Power |
My thoughts as well Dax, Just wanted to check with everyone.
JD will continue to act in the gunnery phase then u less directed otherwise in character
GM Dinketry |
Awaiting Verne and Mal's opinions here. Still in the Engineering phase of Round 2. Someone may act here, or I can simply fast-forward into the Helm phase.
GM Dinketry |
Jarix, the Brilliance is in blue. The Azlanti ship is in green. I'll reset the map to allow you to do the thing that you said you were going to attempt.
Verne Sevenstorm |
Hi folks, I took some time today to review the ship combat rules. It seems that balancing the shields are typically the science officer's role, whereas divert is an engineer action. I'm assuming you would like me to be able to take on both actions, so unless anyone says so, I'll act on this during the next engineering phase.
GM Dinketry |
Verne, you can only take one role per set of rounds, though you can swap in between roles as you wish.
For example, you could act in the Engineering phase of Round 1, then switch up and act as Science Officer in the Helm phase of Round 2, then switch and act as Engineer in the Engineering phase of Round 3. You could not act as BOTH Engineer in the Engineering phase AND Science Officer in the Helm phase in the same combat round.

I've adjusted the map slightly, FYI, so we're not stuck at the margins of the slide.

It pains me to say so, folks, but I’m calling this game as done at this point. I was hopeful to finish this last battle (the last of this book) and THEN wrap it up, but that doesn’t appear like it’s going to happen.
It has been a pleasure to work this game with y’all over the past three years. I’ve enjoyed exploring the Starfinder world - especially with fellow Friends of DeSoto!
I wish y’all nothing but the best. I will write a narrative wrap-up for the game in the next few days: don’t worry; I won’t blast y’all into space dust. Hopefully it’ll give y’all some closure to what has been an amazing game.
I have appreciated all 7 of the players in this game - and especially you core quartet who have made it so far and liberated the good people of Nakondis.
Live long and prosper, people. Thanks.

I am saddened to see this ending without completing the final battle, but I understand how life can overtake hobbies pretty easily. Since we started this game I've gone through alot of significant life changes myself and struggled to make posts. It was always a great distraction for me when I needed it though, so I can't tell you guys enough how much I have enjoyed our campaign and all the moments along the way. There's been so many memorable highlights, and I hope some of my drunk-shimoda-ing around the colony wasn't to much sometimes!
I've always wanted to play an RPG but never had the opportunity. When I stumbled upon your reddit post (I'm not even a Reddit user, I just happened to be checking it out that day) I took the opportunity. It's opened up the world of PHP to me, and I've been playing SFS now for a few years with a few different characters, also with ridiculous names.
So a special thanks to our GM for bringing us this far. Thanks to my fellow players for playing along over the last few years. Sorry to see it go! I'll be around these boards playing, so hope to see you guys somewhere down the road! Take care everyone.
