How interesting that the Mummification process seems like it was based off of Sokushinbutsu mummies that Buddhist Monks used to turn themselves into (though it's been outlawed a long time ago). "The More You Know".

GM Nightfiend |

Because most everyone has been by The Quarterfaux Archives (Museum & Library) and The Binder (Library), I have added them to the Caliphas City Map.

Thanks for taking care of the tokens Caro. I received a message from Ileum that stated because of work he has been distracted a bit. He said he should have a post up possibly today sometime.
I just got caught up with everything thus fare and I have to say that it was an enjoyable read. Keep up the amazing RP! )
Edit: I also wanted to add that these adventure hooks, most of them anyway, where designed to be set a little deeper than most. A more personal investment you might say, in order to get things going. In the future, I intend to continue to provide multiple adventure options with hooks that are a little more forgiving.

For purposes of Caro's meeting minutes, Tiasar is withholding interest in the other missions until he sees how the Quarterfaux Archives goes.
As far as campaign progression goes, Tiasar is still waiting on the return of a certain individual so he will continue his scroll crafting and may brush up on the common lore of the Quarterfaux Archives, but is otherwise ready to fast-forward to the mission.

Caro Martisova |

Ah those notes were just to help everyone keep track of who had said what. They're pretty much null and void now that we're headed to the Archives.
I'm pretty much ready too, unless something weird comes up in one of my two current conversations.

Caro Martisova |

Caro still worked last night, and pre-payed for the next two days so no cash subtracted :P
In the morning, while gathering her gear she puts one of the greenish daggers into her new spring loaded wrist sheath on her right arm. She also prepares an extract of heightened awareness and leaves her other extract slot unfilled so that she can prepare one as needed later.
Since Spud's been so nice lately in reference to Sustos and Randle he deserves a smile and a kiss blown to him as she leaves the tavern.

Berta will go ahead and pay for another week, just to cover her bases. -3.5 sp.
She has no purchases to make at this time.

Caro Martisova |

Was just looking at the slides and noticed that where you are tracking food and water you still have me down as 0/0. I bought 3 trail rations and a waterskin during downtime shopping just because the 0/0 was embarrassing lol.

Caro Martisova |

I'll share if we find ourselves stranded in the wilderness. Actually the first purchase I'm saving up for is a ring of sustenance for the ability to craft while everyone else sleeps, and at that point I'll let you have ALL my food :D

![]() |

Not saying I'm willing to become a pack mule or anything, but Berta can handle a few more pounds. Purchase your rations and Berta will carry them for you. :)

Caro Martisova |

It's probably not an issue for now since we're in the city, but I can carry some for you too if we hit the road, depending on what my load looks like at that point.

GM Nightfiend |

I will update that when I get home tonight.
So, off topic question. Was everyone able to view the video I posted in the slide?

Caro Martisova |

“What is the name of your group?”
I have never understood the convention of having a group need to have a name, but it does seem to be a staple in most games I've played.
In any case, I guess we need to pick one, even if it's temporary. Caro doesn't care at all what they are called, as long as it isn't ridiculously silly or arrogant, so she wouldn't have a suggestion if asked. Names and titles are of very little importance to her other than to be able to identify things in her studies and notes. She has always tended to name animals and other things by their role or job.
Was everyone able to view the video I posted in the slide?
Yes it was viewable for me. I liked it. It added more of a mood to the introduction then just written word would.

Haddek Balmont |

Yes, I like it. Really helps with setting the mood.

Awesome, I was wondering if it was accessible or not. I will work on adding intro video's to campaign objectives when I can. Its an interesting option that I have someone else helping with.

Haddek Balmont |

About the group's name, if someone else doesn't pipe up with one Haddek will probably just give the guards the name of his (currently one-man) mercenary outfit. Of course the rest of the group might not like it, and we can come up with an actual name later, but he'll take any opportunity to get some good word of mouth for his new business.

Tiasar Soseshtian |

Oh cool. Every time I think you're done you just show another level of effort put into this game.
As for a name, I can't really think of anything that's not horribly cheesy. The Destined? Diverse Dungeon Delvers? Adventurers^3 (adventurers cubed)?

Caro Martisova |

Since none of us really know each other yet, we could just temporarily go with The Strangers until we find something that fits us. I'm not against using Haddek's outfit either, especially as Caro wouldn't mind working with him as a private contractor in the future depending on how all this goes :P

Caro Martisova |

"Uhhh, The... Wayfaring, Strangers?"
Sustos with the win! Kudos to him for just stepping up.

![]() |

I did see it! Love it.

Caro Martisova |

Reading back through to see if I missed anything I noticed many of you described yourselves now that you are in your gear. I feel like I should do the same.
Whereas Caro is usually in plain clothes with a leather top, a long coat, gloves, with multiple pouches tools and blades on her belt...
she now is wearing plain clothes with a leather top, a long coat, gloves, with multiple pouches tools and blades on her belt...and carrying a spear!

![]() |

You jest, but I feel like if I saw someone I knew walking around with a spear all of a sudden, I'd certainly take notice! :P

Caro Martisova |

I know, I just felt left out because everyone had cool weapons or armor to describe and Caro is wearing the same clothes she wears in the tavern. It's not as impressive as Berta or Sustos all decked out
I that as I shop for gear I'll start flavoring it all with fluff descriptions, just as skins not changing any stats. Use a cleaver instead of a dagger, a bone saw instead of a scythe, get a coat that looks like a leather surgeon's jacket, etc. Maybe some goggles instead of my glasses.

![]() |

I had to giggle because for whatever reason, when I read "bonesaw," the only thing going through my head was "BONEsaw is read-EEEEE!!"

Caro Martisova |

Caro did not drink a mutagen. She was just waiting in the hallway for Haddek to check the third door. A mutagen wouldn't have this kind of an effect anyways.
By the way, you never posted what you drank this morning so I had to search all the way back to yesterday morning to find the fruit ale >:(

Tiasar Soseshtian |

Ok, I just wanted to make sure that you weren't taking a more intense rokeplaying take on the mutagen change and risk blasting you unconscious for it.
And it was originally tea, but he did sip the fruity ale to be polite :P

Caro Martisova |

You can try to blast me unconscious, fruity man! See where that gets ya.
oops wrong tab
BTW, best game ever. Most GMs just take a character over in a situation like this. I love that Nightfiend just gave me some details and is letting me run with it.

Haddek Balmont |

Lol Great job RPing the change. It's also kind of funny that our first fight as a group is against a member of our group. :)

Caro Martisova |

You guys are being all kinds of nice with the hugs. Honestly if I was you guys I'd just beat me unconscious with non-lethal damage at this point

![]() |

I think the boards ate another of my posts.
Anyway, I'll level with you. I was absolutely going to say "knock 'em into next Tuesday and we'll heal them when they wake up," but I felt super bad about it so I went with the grapple instead. Apparently Berta has a knack for wrasslin'.

Caro Martisova |

Yeah that was an impressive grapple lol. Must be the low center of gravity :P
I'm gonna brainstorm here since I can't in the other tab. I don't think anyone has any spells to help, so the only options I see are tie us up and take us outside, or knock us out and see if we're free of it when we wake up.
Either one may or may not work, and who knows if either of them will require another save afterwards....
Just my thoughts.

Haddek Balmont |

Honestly if I was you guys I'd just beat me unconscious with non-lethal damage at this point
I won't deny Haddek thought about it after you almost 1-hit him. >(
lol it was stupid of me to tackle you like that, I'm just lucky it worked out (maybe)

Caro Martisova |

Had to revisit the grapple rules since it's been a hot minute since I've been grappled. Based on what it looks like the plan is, I also just looked these up, gonna put them here for reference so we don't have to look it up later.
Hempen: The DC to escape hemp rope bonds is equal to 20 + the CMB of the creature that tied the bonds. Ropes do not need to make a check every round to maintain the pin. If the DC to escape is higher than 20 + the tying creatures CMB, the tied up creature cannot escape from the bonds, even with a natural 20 on the check. This rope has 2 hit points and can be burst with a DC 23 Strength check.
Tie Up: If you have your target pinned, otherwise restrained, or unconscious, you can use rope to tie him up. This works like a pin effect, but the DC to escape the bonds is equal to 20 + your Combat Maneuver Bonus (instead of your CMD). The ropes do not need to make a check every round to maintain the pin. If you are grappling the target, you can attempt to tie him up in ropes, but doing so requires a combat maneuver check at a –10 penalty

Caro Martisova |

Yeah this is kinda a rough situation.
- Grappling to tie up gives AoO and now we have to heal the non-affected
- Beating down with non-lethal means we have to heal the affected
- Using Color Spray to make unconscious is little to no healing but uses 1/3 of your spell slots
Any way around it it's either come back tomorrow after recovering and planning for the fog, or continue today after using some form of resources due to the fact that Ileum and I had crappy save rolls :P

Tiasar Soseshtian |

It's alright, I've prepared multiple scrolls of color spray. And you know what takes up just as much resources? Being too stingy with my spells and making us burn through all our healing. Better to walk back with no arcane spells and full hp rather than no divine spells and half hp.

Caro Martisova |

Agreed. I didn't know you had scrolls on hand, that changes the whole dynamic. I've been curious this whole time if knocking someone out would break them free from the effect, hopefully Ileum fails his save and we can find out.

Caro Martisova |

Aww...you took Ileum out way too fast. I was looking forward to flanking with my mist-touched buddy.

Tiasar Soseshtian |

Honesty the only reason I didn't color spray Caro immediately was because I was concerned about ruining a colorful attempt at roleplay.
Next time I'll listen to my instincts and immediately turn on the friendly fire :)
