GM Dak |
Welcome! Feel free to Dot in the Gameplay so that it gets added to your campaigns section. You can then delete the dot to keep the thread clean until we start up.
Please work on finalizing your character and setting up an alias. For the alias be sure to include relevant important character information in the Race section. This is a good example of relevant info:
HP 36/36 | AC 12 | T 12 | FF 10 | CMD 13 | Fort +3 | Ref +3 | Will +4 | Init +4 | Perc +11
Please make sure you include your background, motivations etc in your alias.
We will be getting started by the 13th, possibly the 12th if everyone is ready by then. Use this to discuss among yourselves and ask me any questions you may have.
Sveng |
Woohoo, I'm excited to be on board! I'm also very impressed that you've decided to run 3 tables.
I believe my alias is fully updated, including tracking for uses of daily abilities as well the stat line header.
I can't wait to get started!
Also, I think the gameplay thread may be bugged. There were no posts visible, and when I tried to stealth dot my post didn't show up, although the game did show up in my campaign tab and Sveng's alias shows that the post did happen (although I can't see it).
Maj. Fothergilla |
@Sveng the same thing just happened to me when I dotted in.
I’m really looking forward to this! I’m on mobile right now, I’ll make sure my alias is fully updated and add the stat line later today.
Eregos Villarius |
Woohoo! Thanks for the invite, and respect for running 3 tables.
Here is Eregos's alias. I also have a separate one for the Hargus persona. They have the same information, but which one I use depends on what identity I'm in.
EDIT: Also, the same thing happened to me when I tried to dot into Gameplay.
Nammpo |
I will be Piri Erudishen, an Aasimir (emberkin) Empiricist Investigator. I don't have anything up on as an alias for it yet but I wanted you all to know where my focus will be. I will be using a short bow and not Cha. I will be heavy Int. Dak had mentioned that we would have plenty of melee and face. I will be open to suggestions when we get into it, I have never played an investigator. I will do the best I can.
Sveng |
Dots are working now by the way.
Nooooo!
The shame, my stealth dot is forever emblazoned on the gameplay thread for all to see. The horror!
Eregos Villarius |
Yep. We will see it forever and ever and ever.
Nammpo, I have an empiricist investigator on these boards, albeit using a rapier. Who keeps talking to people despite a lack of ranks in Diplomacy. I might be able to help you out. What sort of advice would you like?
Eregos Villarius |
Sure, that's fine. Feat-wise, if it improves your archery ability, it's probably a good choice. You might struggle a bit in combat until you get studied combat/studied strike at level 4, but that's normal for an Investigator. Given how RP heavy this adventure is supposed to be, that might not be a problem, though.
Sydney Streegrenet |
A lot of the investigator class depends on your flavor and style. It is probably my favorite class!
Most of mine tend towards skills and knowledge, because inspiration is really a big boost, and you can choose when to use it. One of the things I seem make a world of difference in almost every combat is knowledge about monsters, so just shouting out details is often better than getting an extra weenie hit in. Since you have gone with Empiricist, you are even more int focused, which makes it easier. At 2nd level, you are as good as a rogue for finding and disarming traps even without a big dex, sensing when a person is going to attack despite a low wisdom, AND you can really max out Use Magic Device - especially since it is a class skill. At 3rd level you can use any knowledge untrained, but by the time I get there, I have most of the knowledge skills with at least 1 rank anyway.
Once you hit 4th, combat becomes more viable. But my usual approach is to stand back, maybe have a couple of wands for magic missile and grease ready for the right situation, and shout words of encouragement. :) Also a wand of summon monster is great for throwing flanking buddies around.
I have rarely used my inspiration for combat, although I just used it on a critical saving throw today, so it does help that it is versatile.
Anyway, there are a lot of options, and a lot of opinions, so don't let us dictate how it should be. Just try to find a flavor that suits you, and it should be pretty fun.
Piri Erudishen |
This sounds great guys. It is sort of what I was thinking. I figured we would have battles covered because it is a heavy RP adventure and Dak told me that it looked like faces and muscles were covered. I will probably ask more stuff in discussion as we go along, not so much as to not play my character but more so I can learn from my mistakes.
Sveng |
This is a PSA to all of my active games: I will be unavailable starting this Friday afternoon (the 16th) until next Thursday morning (the 22nd). I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please GMPC me as needed.
Maj. Fothergilla |
Excited for this to get going; anyone interested in connections? Between her military background and employment as a bouncer, Hazel has met quite a variety of people.
Eregos Villarius |
Hmmm...well, Eregos is a gambler. It's possible that she's seen him in various establishments she's worked as a bouncer. Other than that, Eregos doesn't really have many other connections that way.
Sveng |
Sveng is a person who gets things done and knows people. Trade an introduction for a favor, purchase some manipulation, get a law pushed through to bury a skeleton in your closet...it's easy to know Sveng.
Valeria Tanessen |
Am I at the right place? :)
If so, hello my darlings! :)
Piri Erudishen |
I posted my introduction much earlier, right after Val, as a matter of fact and none of it apparently stayed. There must have been a glitch, my discussion addition showed up when I looked later but my earlier post on this game and another didn't stay. My apologies.
Sveng |
I apologize for my untimely upcoming hiatus from the boards since this game just started. Sveng will take time to assess the motivations and abilities of his new comrades, hoping to use his tailor as an excuse to prod a little, but overall is cautiously optimistic about this opportunity and will certainly be on board.
As for what jobs to take, Sveng is best at knowledges and talking to people. However his "Young Reformer" trait allows him to switch some skill checks around 1/day, so exactly one time he can be very good at something else. So he could spike the wine since it's one check, but stealing artifacts wouldn't be good since it requires multiple checks.
Maj. Fothergilla |
I’m at a holiday party all day today so I won’t have a chance to post until later tonight!
Hazel is probably best for the Aide mission between her CMB and Athletic Champion trait.
Piri Erudishen |
Piri is best at skills. As an investigator he will be pretty good at knowledge checks. Since we had faces, I deliberately held the Cha down, but I will be able to use my Int for some otherwise Cha checks. I can disable device and spellcraft.
Piri Erudishen |
Ok, Sydney and Eregos, my Investigator experts. My understanding is in combat situations (not that I think we are heading for that) if I am going to use an extract, it is a standard action and it potentially provokes AoO. Unlike a spellcaster, I don't have to prepare it at one time, I can wait until the situation or just prior to and it takes 1 minute?
Sydney Streegrenet |
That is correct. I usually only prepare about 1/3 - 1/2 of my extracts ahead of time, especially if you have a lot of utility ones that are very specific. I might keep a couple of combat ones ready - reduce person is a personal favorite of mine (helps attack and AC for a ranged combatant). That way if you are in combat when not expecting it, you have some ready support.
Valeria Tanessen |
Everything on her character sheet is coming with her, all cleverly hidden as part of her red butterfly gown design, as per my last gameplay post. Her whip is not hidden though and is part of her themed ensemble. :)
Piri Erudishen |
I don't guess that I can bring my bow and quiver or even a rapier. I cannot get to my character sheet at work here so I will have to wait until tonight. My assumption will be no weapons and no armor (visible). Someone speak for the liquid blade, and I would like 1 of the dust of illusion. Hopefully, I won't need anything I don't have for the sabotage.
Hargus Kryn |
Well...
Things that are definitely coming with him:
Courtier's outfit he just bought
50 gp worth of jewelry
House Kryn Signet Ring
Studded leather hidden under his clothing
1 Dagger
belt pouch
deck of cards
Ideally, I would also like to bring the falcata. Given that it is the preferred weapon of Taldan nobility, I imagine I would be allowed to bring one in. I'd also like to tuck 2 of my other daggers behind my belt under my coat to bring them in. If weapons are not permitted, then I would like one of the two liquid blades. I would also like one of the smoke pellets, just in case.
I'd like to bring everything, but not everything can be so easily disguised, especially since I don't have any ranks in Sleight of Hand.
GM Dak |
It is in the senate building, so same rules as the senate. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
Also regarding your question on research. As Eregos did, Diplomacy to Gather Info takes 1d4 hours. Can also Know. Nobility. In any case, you can do this to gain a bonus on future interactions with a single person. If you want to spend the time researching multiples to increase your chance of success, you can. However, once you know your successes you can only apply the bonus to one of your successes during the Gala. It's an abstraction of one of the rules in Ultimate Intrigue since the shortened version of those rules that are part of the AP don't mention anything about prior research. Figured I would meet in the middle.
Sveng |
In that case, Sveng will bring everything on his sheet except his crossbow. His armor is light and will be under his clothes, and his short sword and daggers will all be peace bound.
I'll get a post on research up later today.
When you say we can also use knowledge nobility, do you mean instead of the gather information check or as a completely independent check?
Sveng |
Gotcha.
Also, since this seems like it will be an important question at some point, how do you handle identifying magic? More subtle magic that is. If somebody uses charm person or some other spell without an obvious physical effect, what do onlookers perceive? Is it possible to use clandestine magic without lighting up like a beacon?
Sveng |
Would there be any way to research our fellow PCs? I realize that it would be rather meta, but Sveng is the slightly-paranoid/extremely-cautious type and would be just as interested in digging up information about them as well as their political targets for the gala.
Eregos Villarius |
What are the rules for the Senate Building? Based on Sveng's repsonse, I'm guessing any weapons are allowed, so long as they are peacebound. Correct?
Maj. Fothergilla |
Hazel will wear her leather armor under her courtier's outfit, and her dagger and shortsword will be peacebound, though that's mostly a formality since she uses unarmed attacks the vast majority of the time. She'll carry everything else on her character sheet in her waistpouch.
