He flies up to Lekki and attacks him.
@GM CariMac: Is the placement of the lizard on the map correct? (Slide 3) The text implies melee range, but it's 25' away from Lekki. Just want to make sure I don't post an action that won't work or make sense. Thanks!

![]() |

Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 -- so Lekki takes the full hit...
Lekki will take a step back, and begin to wave an arcane spell.
Lekki's eyes move fearesely, going back and forth as if deciphering every part of what just happened. As they focus on the lizard, the animal turns its head to the side to meat the birds gaze. Deja Vu.
Mechanically, swift action to Hipnotic Stare on the lizard for -2 penlty on will saves. And then cast's Deja Vu for a DC 16 (with -2 penalty) will save.

![]() |

"Warts and ashes!" yells Leyten. "The lizard is a damned spellcaster?!?"
He opens the hand that held the coins, and that hand is once again surrounded by a dark, pinkish-gray nimbus. With a growl, Leyten releases the energy, directing a bolt of energy at the lizard.
Leyten attacks with a Kinetic Blast. Kinetic Blast attack vs. Touch AC: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Negative energy damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Just noticed that I got a potential crit on this - against the little lizard guy! Like Osten, I hope I don't kill him....
Roll to confirm crit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 -- Phew!

GM_CariMac |

I forgot to move him up. He's in melee, but also unconscious on the floor from Osten and Leyton. Lekki you can hold on to that speell it wasn't needed.
The lizard falls under the combined attacks of the Pathfnders, and lies unconscious before you. The alleyway is quiet.

![]() |

"Well, that was chaotic. Pity my spell didn't work; I did not wish to hurt the little guy. I suppose now we must either stash his body somewhere or heal him and try again. I doubt we would fare any better a second time around, however. Thoughts?" Laafdahni glances at each of her party members, awaiting their input.
A thought occurs to her. Perhaps she should check to see if anyone noticed the ruckus.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

![]() |

Lekki weaves a curative spell and brushes his feathers down.
CLW Spell: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 — from my spell list
Lekki ispenct the lizard and casts Stabilise on him immediately.
That was hypnotic? Eeeem, I didn’t even get to cast my spell! Whats done is done. The young one probably need some rest. He will come to eventually. Let’s get going - why would he want to stop us anyway? You are, from the Concordance, are you not Laafdahni?
Which way to the library?

![]() |

"Good question, Lekki," says Leyten. "Why DID he try to stop us? Some forbidden knowledge that we aren't meant to know? Makes me even more determined to take a look."
He looks at Osten and nods. "Commendable restraint! For an instant, I thought you might end up cutting him in half." He chuckles. "Well, let's move him out of the way." He pulls the lizard to the side of the alley and conceals him behind a couple of barrels.

![]() |

Osten catches his breath with a wave of the hand and a nod to Leyten, "Thanks." He looks over to the plane-touched members of the team and asks, "What was he saying anyway?" He considers the lizard-man-thing. "If we tie him up good enough, we can roll him up in one of these carpets and take him with us. Any takers? I just figure if he's with us then he ain't grabbin' a bunch of bigger friends to meet up with us later down the road."

![]() |

Laafdahni ponders a moment. "You have a point, Osten. However, bringing him along would be conspicuous no matter how we manage it. My vote is to leave him tied up and gagged. I have some silk rope."

![]() |

”Leave him. Am safe and stable. Will not get more hurt now. We can heal when leave,” Rumble says, wanting to be sure the lizard didn’t take any harm long term.

![]() |

"Tie him up and gag him, then leave him here," agrees Leyten. "We still don't know WHY he didn't want us going inside. Until we do, I don't want him telling anyone else that we're here."

![]() |

Laafdahni unhooks a coil of rope from her chain belt and hands it to Osten. "You can probably tie him more securely than I. Would you do the honors? You can cut off just enough to tie him. Does anyone have cloth that we could use for a gag?" For binding hand and foot on a small creature, would 3 or 4 feet of rope be about right?

GM_CariMac |

3 or 4 feet would be enough. Don't forget this scenario was written before the Concordance was a Faction.
As you are tying up the lizard, no convenient priestess show up, but you do find a fireproof pouch. Inside the pouch is a Keylight Lantern.
These stylized lanterns are popular among Concordance agents, both for their abilities and their allegorical symbolism. The lantern represents unity of the elements: the metal and glass exterior of the lantern represents earth; the oil represents water; the flame represents fire; and the smoke off the flame represents air.
You leave the attacker in the alley and make your way via flying carpet to the Cloisters of the Hidden Breeze.
Midnight-blue stone walls with numerous shallow alcoves carved into them encircle the temple. Within these recesses, glass lanterns flicker with firelight, like stars on the night sky. Four towers stand aloft, topped by azure domes decorated with gold painted constellations and twinkling crystals. A gilded gate stands ajar, opening into a courtyard full of herbs and flowers.

![]() |

We will take the lantern with us. I have noted the lost section of rope in my inventory.
Laafdahni pauses a moment to appreciate the sight of the Cloisters of the Hidden Breeze. "Oh, it's beautiful!" With her smooth gate, she flows toward the courtyard, inhaling the scent of herbs and flowers with half-closed eyes and a serene smile playing upon her full lips.

![]() |

”Gate am left open for us. Nice of them,” Rumble says as he peeked through the gate. He looked around carefully before entering.
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

GM_CariMac |

The missionaries of the Cloisters are mostly comprised of azatas. They readily welcome the you.
"Welcome, Welcome my friends." an azata monk waves you inside, "We just have two requests please keep quiet and do not take anything from the grounds. If you can abide by those two requests, feel free to wander the Cloisters of the Hidden Breeze. Feel free to ask questions. We are here to share knowledge."
The Cloisters contains a variety of libraries.

![]() |

Leyten gives the monk an appreciative appraisal. Then he says, "We thank you for your courtesy. Tell me, please, do you have any volumes describing conflicts between the Elemental Lords?"

![]() |

Laafdahni nods in positive appraisal at Leyton. Ooh, excellent subtlety, Leyten. Very good.

![]() |

Well, I may as well be a paper weight for all the good I'm doin' here! Osten looks around, in part to make certain the lizard did not indeed have a group of friends determined to challenge the Pathfinders.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

GM_CariMac |

Conflicts between the lords? That's a most interesting question. Let me think."
Leyton a Diplomacy or Knowledge Religion check please.
Osten notices a few people looking interested in the group, but none seem hostile or upset with your arrival.

![]() |

The grumpy bird gestures to Leyten to keep going, obviously egging him on. Wait, we are here to research an Elemental Sword? That's not why we are...Ooooooh! I think he said Elemental Lords. Yes, that is the topic that has brought us here today!
Forgive me, it is hard to follow a conversation when you are as old as I am. The bird is slighly ashamed, and bows deaply to the clerk as he was slighly overzelous and loud. He uses this an attempt to distract the clerk from the conversation and aid Leyton.
Lekki can take 1 and automatically assist to Leyten's diplomacy roll!

![]() |

Alas, Leyten isn't trained in Knowledge (Religion), so he'll have to try his luck with Diplomacy using his poor Charisma. Thanks to the Aid Another from Lekki, it's an even roll, at least!
Diplomacy check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18

GM_CariMac |

Amazingly the Kineticist is polite enough that the azata points you to a library where you might find the books on the Elemental Lords.
Many of the monks wince at the volume of Lekki's voice, and then realize he's hard of hearing and don't comment.
This chamber is furnished with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and several desks.

![]() |

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Not totally oblivious to the expected customs of the building, Osten leans in toward the team. "I'm not sure if libraries are supposed work that, but there's a door hidden over there, by that brown rack."

![]() |

"Huh, what?" whispers Leyten. "Oh sorry, Osten, got distracted. I usually can't convince a person that they're alive, so I'm flabbergasted that worked. Sure, take a look - I'll let you know if someone else comes down this way."
Leyten moves a few steps farther down the hall and looks to see whether anyone is approaching their group.

![]() |

Laafdahni speaks in a low, breathy voice: "Lekki and I will search these books for information until you need us." Leaning close to where she assumes Lekki's ear is, she enunciates: "Lekki, let's search for books over here."
Perception to find relevant books: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

![]() |

"Okay Rumble, looks like its you and me." There are forty different ways this can go bad. The huge barbarian sidles up to the door and sees if it will open.

![]() |

Rooks? Why are we investigating rooks? Do you play Chess, my dear? Ooooh, yes! Chess in a library! I warn you, my dear. I have been practicing my entire life - I have beaten many an Acolyte from Razmiran! Come come, we will sit and play! Lekki begins to look for a chess board, as he is sure there would be one in a library.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 -- to find relevant book, or a chess table...

![]() |

Laafdahni leans in to murmur in Leyton's ear: "Perhaps we should follow Osten and RumbleRock, anyway. I had thought to avoid attracting attention to Osten at the door by browsing nearby, but Lekki's not blending in quietly as I'd hoped he would..."

![]() |

"No, he's not," says Leyten, trying not to get TOO distracted by Laafdahni's breath in his ear. "Perhaps his ancestors were awakened peacocks. All right, let's go with the others..."
He joins Osten and RumbleRock and whispers, "Strange land, mystical mysteries, and a loud bird. Add them up and it means we're sticking together."

GM_CariMac |

Lekki finds a couple of interesting books, but not the one the group is looking for. There is no chess table to be seen.
As the group enters the secret door it into a 10-foot diameter antechamber with another door and an empty copper hook on the wall next to it.
The door is locked.
The wall above the locked door is carved with with some words written in Auran

![]() |

I love the bandter around Lekki. He is very oblivious to it all, especially if you hide your lips when you say these things!
Ooooh, a secret door ey! It says that "only Concordance members past this point"! Mmm, to bad there isn't a chess board, we could rest here for a while. But this is rather strange, why are the Concordance so important anyway? Lekki seems irritated at the fact that he doesn't get a rest. He brushes off his feathers and points out the writing.
Can anyone here disable device? Lekki can touch you with a Touch of Law for 11+ on your roll.
Inspecting the door a little closer. Anyone good with locks? Such a dirty habbit - lockpicking, i mean. They never taught us in Razmiran. I wonder why... as the bird goes into thought.

![]() |

"Hmm... I am a member of the Concordance of Elements, though I haven't been informed of anything associated with their actions as they relate to our mission. I wonder if this is a splinter group acting on their own? Regardless, should we manage to enter, I can vouch for us."
Laafdahni is untrained in disable device (and has only a +1 dex modifier).

![]() |

"Perhaps there is a key or lever. Let's all look." Laafdahni examines the room, looking for a key or something that will grant access to the room beyond. The copper hook also attracts her attention.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

GM_CariMac |

There is a hook hanging on the wall. The hook looks like it might be big enough to hold a lantern.

![]() |

"Well, either someone took a lantern in the tunnel, or this is the latch we are looking for." Osten fiddles with the hook; pulling, twisting and any other thing he can think of to test the theory.

![]() |

Producing the lantern she took from the lizard in the alley, Laafdahni hangs it on the hook with a quizzical expression. "Perhaps this could work..."

![]() |

Leyten nods as Laafdahni produces the lantern, then he glances behind them to see if anyone is approaching.

GM_CariMac |

The door clicks as it unlocks.
A winding downward staircase empties into the center of a chamber with four circular alcoves. Each of these alcoves glows with a different colored translucent barrier: red, green, blue, and white. With the exception of the alcove behind the white barrier, a variety of items are on display beyond the barriers. Among these curiosities are books, scrolls, figurines, urns, and tapestries. The alcove behind the white barrier, however, is mostly blocked by rubble, as if it had been ransacked in the past. Four gemstones sparkle atop a stone altar along one of the chamber’s walls.
Map Updated

![]() |

"Hmm... It appears that those gemstones could be keys to enter these alcoves. Before we touch anything, we should examine this space. It may be trapped." She then carefully strolls through the chamber, watching her steps, checking for traps, peering through the barriers to assess the contents on the other side, and visually examining the gemstones and the altar.
Percpetion: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

![]() |

Leyten crouches down before each of the translucent barriers in turn, trying to determine whether it's actually a magical wall... or something more illusory. He even examines the rubble from a distance, in case that isn't what it seems.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Will save to disbelieve, if necessary: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 1 + 2 = 17

![]() |

Ooooh yes! Very funny Razmir! You put me in a cage with shiny stones to say that old birds like shiny stones! I see what you did there! he chuckles to himself almost falling to the ground.
Also, I forgot to tell everyone - i'm basically colour blind. So you will have to tell me which colour is which. No, but seriously, what are these? Your faculty, Laafdahni, sure are strange. Why would they be hiding this inside a library? he walks over to his sorcerer friend, and casts Detect Psychic Significance on the stones.
Knowledge Anything: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 -- if any knowledges apply, Lekki has most of them at this bonus.
