GM:
Takkit would have been the first through the door. I stated repeatedly that he would be leading the group, no matter what. In any case, Takkit has resiliency, which allows him to gain hp, and also he would have his AC boost from the shield spell.

Resiliency: Once per day, a rogue with this ability can gain a number of temporary hit points equal to twice her rogue level. Activating this ability is an immediate action that can be performed only when the rogue is brought to below 0 hit points. This ability can be used to prevent the rogue from dying. These temporary hit points last for 1 minute. If the rogue's hit points drop below 0 due to the loss of these temporary hit points, she falls unconscious and is dying as normal.

Just to be neutral here, I don't see anywhere where it indicates that Takkit would be leading us anywhere, especially not through the portal when I was definitely the first one through. It even seems you left the party a bit to go investigate a statue that no one else was close to.

For the GM, I don't think it is entirely to fair that Takkit's late posting should imply that his character is not moving with the group. In this case, I dont see why the party would be moving through the portal one at a time instead of being assumed to be moving as close to all at once as possible unless someone is specifically staying back.

Plunder and Peril Ship 1 Plunder and Peril Ship 2

Okay, gonna have to make a sitdown for this one. So sorry gang, we gotta put this one pause for a moment.

Takkit, I first actually didn't assume you'd be flat footed. I forgot that. I had assumed you included shield in your statline, but if you didn't, that's still 93 damage, with your resilience meaning you are unconscious if not con dead.

Menas, it is not that the character is not moving with the group. in fact, he explicitly is. But it is standard width door and only one character can move through it at a time, single file. The creatures that attack are explicitly waiting for the last person and attack that person before they go through the door. Because each of you stated the fact that you where going through, and because Takkit I to don't see where you said you'd be leading no matter what, I followed the best order I could. So either you, or Enora was going to get walloped here. I don't feel it's particularly fair to force Enora to be the one to be killed here with no particularly good reason why she should be last instead.

My two coppers on the situation is this. In hindsight it would have been more fair if we had set up a firm marching order from the beginning. A single file marching order, established before the journey, would have helped avoid this. What happened here is that it essentially became "last PC to post dies." Given this is a play by post game with a potentially global audience that has their own RL schedules, that doesn't seem like a very good way to have handled it. But at this point, I don't think there is much that can be done to remedy the situation.

If it will help smooth things over, I'll volunteer to be the one to get walloped instead.

Yeah, I have nothing against the GM here, but it did kind of feel like "last PC to post gets smashed". I didn't realize the doorway could only fit one person at time though, definitely a mean scenario.

Plunder and Peril Ship 1 Plunder and Peril Ship 2

Unfortunately Loxx, volunteering to be the one walloped in this case doesn't really help because your character is built to take wallops. It's kinda like the rogue volunteering to make the reflex roll against the trap that accidentally got set off. I also can't justify it in universe.

Which, brings me to my final decision and the rational behind it. The team is walking through a unknown portal, unaware of any danger for those who go through last. Takkit is inspecting the statue in the middle of the room, taking 20 on it. Menas specifically stated he risks going through first, not knowing what's on the other side. Minmax posted stating that he will walk through "As soon as a beefier one does." I will take that to mean Minmax goes next. As Menas is walking through the door, Loxx casts extended barkskin, and then walks through after Minmax. Delgan specifically stated he follows after Loxx. This leaves Enora and Takkit alone. Since Takkit explicitly stated he was inspecting the statue, he would need to walk over from it as the team was entering, meaning Enora would already be in position "in line" and having cast her two spells while the others enter, will follow in, leaving Takkit to be the last to enter through behind her when he will be attacked by the hounds.

Takkit, I apologize that this scenario is as mean as it is, but it is far from over and frankly there may be some other deaths in a moment. Your character will be dead, as a hound will take a bite and they will teleport away with your body since no one can beat the 29 initiative of hound C. This is my final decision on the matter, and we will continue from the last post where Enora realizes that Takkit did not follow behind, and Menas asked how they should return.

Please resume action from this point.

"Let's wait a moment so Takkit can catch up. I hope he is allright. If he does not turn up in a moment we should consider marching order; I suggest Enora and Minmaximus in the middle. Who will take point and who will take rear guard?"

I think that Loxx, Menas and myself are all equaly suited to fill any of these positions given what the characters know. I am willing to take either role or be second to go in

Minmaximus recognizes the creatures in horror. These are the Hounds of Tindalos! Terrifying creatures, who's gaze can can rend the bodies of their victims apart! They also can teleport through the spaces between to travel where they wish in a instant! (Swift action!) They are resistant to non magical weapons, immune to poisons, and one should NOT attempt to touch their minds! Despite this, their will is not as strong as their other abilities, but the creatures are still very sturdy!

Plunder and Peril Ship 1 Plunder and Peril Ship 2

Loxx, they ported into the room invisibly and are still invisible. Invisible creatures cannot use gaze attacks because you cannot meet their eyes. However, Minmax and Deaglan have see invisibility and true-seeing on respectively, negating and removing the invisibility for them only. If they where not invisible, all of you would have been hit by the attack. You guys are not in danger so long as they are invisible to gaze attacks, hence why only they where hit. I apologize for not making that more clear.

The hound tackles minmax, ripping out his throat and clawing open his chest!

Minmax, that puts you at -19... unless you have an ability to save you, this is death. :(

After he rips out Minmax throat, the horrible thing disappears again!

The next hound rushes forward at Loxx, biting and clawing at him, the horrific visage nothing but flashes of grotesque purple slime. Thankfully, Loxx is a more capable fighter than minmax, and though a bite rips his arm and a claw cuts at his leg, he's able to fend off much of the worst of it.

Before he can react however, the thing disappears again!

As Menas feels the thing in his hands wriggle and squirm, letting out a gut wretching sound that can charitably called a howl, he suddenly finds himself holding... nothing! Nothing but the feeling of slime on his hands as the thing is suddenly out of his grip!

Double checked the rules, if they are not actively forcing you to make saves, you make them at the beginning of your turn for gaze attack, so the fleeting glances when they attack here are not enough to force you to take the damage from the gaze attacks.

The wizard's wounds close and his breathing resumes! Deaglan then rummages in his pack and takes his smoked goggles out.
