Sorry for turning into a ghost this week. It was report card time.
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Mavis sees the ooze go down and decides to after the bats she raises her hands in the air and chanting Targetus lockitus. 3 bright and sparkaly darts of force spring out of her fingers hitting the swarm dead on.
Magic Missile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 2, 4) + 3 = 10
GM Batpony |
I'm going to say Liranna targeted the bats, and hit it.
Taleath warns the group about the bats, and turns his focus on to the ooze. Although he released his arrow a little early, to his surprise the ooze isn't very mobile and the arrow sinks right into it. It hit and did 4 dmg! Valeros steps up and continues hacking away whatever little remains left, leaving only a large puddle behind.
Mavis stunned a moment from the bats, chooses to create havoc from within the swarm and releases forceful energy knocking bats off from every corner!. Liranna sees a few remaining and swipes them out with her rapier impressively.
With the threat neutralized, you forage the room looking for clues. The room has so little that it suggest Justerian perhaps didn't have a lot of materials belongings. In fact, all his belongings could be found in a n a small wooden trunk that he kept hidden underneath his bed. The trunk contains two sets of simple clothing, 50 feet of hemp rope, a waterskin, 10 days of rations, a set of cookware, a minor elixir of life, a vial of nectar of purification, and 12 sp. Additionally, it had a letter. In handouts!
Status: Valeros -1, Taleath -3, Siv -3, Mavis -4 (1 persistent Bleed) , Abishek -4 (1 persistent bleed)
Abishek and Mavis needs to resolve his persistent bleed.
Any prep before heading up the spiral stairs?
Taleath Oakbough |
Seeing his companions bleeding, Taleath moves to provide some basic First Aid.
"Mavis? Let me bind that, if you would."
Medicine: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
"Abishek? Your turn."
Medicine: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
I'm starting to wonder why I bother to try to have useful skills.
Liranna Vomoyosana |
Liranna smirks as she wipes off the ooze and bat blood from her rapier and takes a look at Taleath.
"Hm, can't really say I have any idea what you're doing with that. We found one of those healing elixirs in the chest, and I have one on me as well," she says, pulling out a small bottle from her bag. "Abi and Mavis can have one of each, yes? Not sure if this'll stop their bleeding though."
Sivrilltri Ilosim |
Assessing the situation the paladin said "Let me have a look before we use the elixirs" He moves to watch as Taleath begins bandaging. He tries to guide his friend as he sees his companion is failing. "If we can't sort out the bandages I can always call upon Iomedae to assist us. We need not use the items.
Bandage: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 Abishek
Abishek is restored 1 HP and stops bleeding.
Bandage: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Mavis
Seeing the blood continue to soak through the bandages Siv shakes his head before stating "Looks like more drastic measures are required" Taking a moment to pray he lays his hand upon the wizard. A burst of healing warmth passes through her body
Lay on hands: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 If she hits max HP she automatically stops bleeding
Playtest Pregen |
Valeros wipes the slime from his blade, then glances up the steps.
"Shall we?" he asks as he makes his way to the bottom of the steps, ready to ascend.
Valeros is ready to go and to go first.
GM Batpony |
Taleath and Siv immediately turn to aid the wounded Pathfinders. In the pressure of the moment, The ranger forgets all his medical first aid training. Luckily for the injured, The paladin of Iomadae knows a thing or two about first aid and has divine abilities granted by his deity to heal the wounded,
Going to forgo exploration for the moment to move things smoother.
Valeros yearns to discover more and turns immediately to the spiral staircase to explore the attic, where the rancid smell of death comes from. Leading the group he approaches cautiously with his weapon drawn in anticipation of possible undeath.
However, the attic lies empty save for a dead human body, blood dried over time. Clearly, he resembles the one named Justerian.

Medicine: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (14) - 3 = 11
"I think we found our missing person." Valeros grimly remarks.
Abishek Padiyath |
"I thank you, Il... I mean, is it... Ser Ilosim?" Regardless of rank and title, Abi was more than appreciative for the medical attention.
Medicine, Untrained: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (15) - 3 = 12
Abi comes across the corpse, and furrows his brow. "Well, I don't know much about the medical arts, but I deem it safe to say that this man was... killed to... death. By that, I mean.... blood loss... from the wounds across his body... so much blood losssst~~"
The sorcerer finds his knees wobble, and he braces himself against the wall. "Apologies, all this talk of... *urk* blood..."
GM Batpony |
Satisfied with your search and investigative efforts, you carefully make your way out of the home, and return to inform Dahlia of her friend's unfortunate demise. As your words reach her ears, her facial expression change to one of shock and disbelief.
Is there anything in particular you would like to tell / ask her before we conclude this quest?
Abishek Padiyath |
"I understand it's difficult, but..." Abishek produces the holy symbol of Milani, and places it on the counter. "... I'm sure he would have preferred a friend to have it, perhaps as a keepsake or memory."
I assume we have the holy symbol of Justerian's? If not, ignore this post, ha.
GM Batpony |
As seasoned Pathfinders, I'll assume that you took everything!
She looks a little confused as Abishek hands over the trinket. "As far as I know, he never owned such a thing, though he occasionally did speak of a priest of Milani. In fact, it was the priest that recommended him to take the job at this very place, or so he told me!" Dahlia responds. And after a little more chatter, you realise perhaps something was very amiss about the whole situation.
Upon returning to Ambrus Valsin, he listens curiously to your findings, and ask you the question. "I assume everything you've found is somehow connected, before I pass your next assignment, what have you decipher about the Rose Street Killer so far?"
Mavis the Maroon |
it appears the killer is targeting freed slaves. A follower of milani seems to be involved but doesn’t seem to want to hurt anyone from the journal excerpt. Instead they seem to want to help the slaves.
GM Batpony |
"Most peculiar indeed." Ambrus pauses to think about the whole thing. [b]"Something doesn't add up, but nonetheless times a wasting. While you were out, I’ve determined that when the victims were freed, each was hidden in the same safe house, a tavern called the Sanguine Thorn. But that seems unlikely, as multiple accounts report that the earthquake destroyed it decades ago. Go to the tavern’s address in the Precipice Quarter. If it’s somehow standing, search for information that can help us stop this murderer or find our missing Pathfinder, Nelfurhin Zor, before it’s too late " the Venture-Captain instructs you.
For all intents and purposes, treat this as a new day, full HP, refreshed resources.
You head towards Precipice Quarter, where the tavern once reside before the earthquake destroyed it. Along the way, members of Absalom’s Post Guard warn you that the entrance gates to the Precipice Quarter remains closed between dusk and dawn, no matter who asks to be let past.
Through a shroud of heavy fog, the twisted silhouettes of ruined structures loom over the broken cobblestone path. What was once the corner of an intersection is now an imposing chasm. The mouth of the crater is large enough to have swallowed a colossal beast, but mist, detritus, and darkness obscure the bottom. Numerous shards of stone and debris jut out from the inner walls as if the cavernous hole is baring its teeth all the way down.
Clearly, your options are to climb down the crater, into the unnatural fog, and investigate! The rocks and debris protruding from the inner walls provide several footholds and handholds.
It is an Athletics check to climb down!

Abishek Padiyath |
Athletics (untrained): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Abishek looks down at the crater, then down to his manicured hands and slippered feet. Ugh, this will not end well...
GM Batpony |
The four men in the party take lead and climb down bravely into the unknown, clasping on to the jagged edge of the crater. However, the climb is much more difficult than it looks as the heavy fog obscures their vision. the Along the way down, Abishek, Valeros, and Siv mistime, misstep, or misjudge a hold and they fall! Mechanically you fall 20 ft and take 10 bludgeoning damage, you may attempt a Acrobatics reaction (Grab an Edge) DC14, to reduce the damage by half.
Broken bedrock, hunks of wattle, and splintered lumber—all lightly dusted with sea salt—sink into the mud. The lurching profile of a bowed and broken structure stands here, its walls little more than rows of warped timber, covered in withered vines, that converge at strange angles. The door on this side of the wall is missing from its frame.
The fog remain thick at the bottom obscuring a lot of your sight.
Mechanically, everything on the outside the house has the concealed condition, inside the house it is dim light conditions.
Map is up! For all intents and purposes, you are proceeding in exploration mode. Let me know what you do.

Abishek and Valeros are badly injured from the fall whilst Liranna gracefully climbs down after witnessing the mistakes earlier.
Remember to heal yourselves, if you want to, and choose your exploration tactic!
Abishek -10, Valeros -10
Taleath Oakbough |
Okay, so it is a 10 minute Medicine check against a Medium DC for your level to heal up to 6 people their Con Bonus + Level in HP (or my level in HP, whichever is better), right? Teleath will give it a go. Worst I can do is waste 10 minutes, right?
Medicine (Treat Wounds) DC 13: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Valeros would heal 2.

GM Batpony |
Taleath is spot on with the rules, assuming Siv used his medicine check to treat everyone's wounds as well.
After taking a hard fall, Taleath and Siv spend some time to treat the group's injuries.

Abishek Padiyath |
"I thank all of elvenkind, for it produced the keen medical minds of you two - once more, your skill with both bandage and bone-splint are irreplaceable." Abishek thanks Taleath and Siv in a rather flowerly manner.
Once mobile, Abi will be Searching as well.
GM Batpony |
Assuming you head straight on, and following the marching order.
After tending to your wounds, the group heads towards the door. But unbeknownst to them, the area immediately around the door is unstable. The Mud pulls Siv down into the earth and he finds himself sunken to the waist almost instantaneously!

We are in Encounter mode for all intents and purposes, i.e. everybody has 1 round of actions! Abishek, Valeros, and Liranna may act.
Mavis the Maroon |
Athletics: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (10) - 3 = 7
That does not seem pleasant. Let me see if I can find a board to make a bridge.
Mavis looks for something in the area that she could use to make a bridge. Before handling anything she quickly cleans it off with magic to make sure to keep herself proper.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Taleath Oakbough |
The elf worries less about a bridge and more about helping Siv.
Lacking anything obviously better, he takes off his pack, holding on to one strap, and tries to get the other strap in Siv's reach. "Let's see if we can't pull him out. If anyone's got something better than my pack, I think we would both appreciate using it . . .."

GM Batpony |
The scenario doesn't really define how you would interact with a character when their stuck in the mud, but I'm going to rule that the primary PC will nerd to still successfully pull himself out. So for all intents and purposes if you desire to help him it will be treated as an aid (using athletics), following aid rules that's a DC16.
Mavis needs to make a reflex save as she's coming down the crater.
Abishek and Liranna may post actions.
GM Batpony |
Okay, so it is a 10 minute Medicine check against a Medium DC for your level to heal up to 6 people their Con Bonus + Level in HP (or my level in HP, whichever is better), right? Teleath will give it a go. Worst I can do is waste 10 minutes, right?
Need to make a correction. It's Con Bonus x Level in HP.
The pathfinders immediately react by attempting to pull Siv out of the mud! However, a new threat emerges as a skeleton crawls from other the stairs into your view!
Encounter Round 1/2
Conditions: Fog(Concealment)
Abi -4, Valeros -6, Liranna
Crawling Skeleton
Siv -1 (+4 aid. knee deep in mud), Mavis (Reflex for falling during climb), Taleath
Taleath, the skeleton would have appeared before you turn, so let me know if a retcon is required.
Playtest Pregen |
Certain the presence of undead will not help get Siv out of the mud, Valeros draws his blade, dons his shield, and strikes the skeleton.

Mavis the Maroon |
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Mavis stops what she is doing and turns around as she hears someone say Skeleton and immediately draws some fingernail clippings from her pocket, says a few words and the fingernails begin to grow and fire off towards the skeleton.
Magic Missile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1, 1) + 3 = 7
Sivrilltri Ilosim |
Trying to not panic Siv accepts the help of his comrades and attempts to free himself from the mud.
Athletics with +4 assist, Trained: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Abishek Padiyath |
Abishek draws a mace that was looped from his belt, and casts a defensive ward spell. He then takes a swing at the crawling skeleton.
Melee, light mace: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Damage, B: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
+ Interact (draw light mace)
+ Verbal Casting (shield)
+ Strike (melee, light mace)
GM Batpony |
The skeleton had the prone condition, so it was easy to hit, but it also had DR against slashing. But Mavis's 3 action magic missile was enough to knock it dead immediately!
Fortunately, in the face of danger, Siv manages to pull himself free from grasp of the mud. The rest of the Pathfinders react by drawing arms and striking down on the prone skeleton before it was able to react.
Now, with danger out of the way, you're able to take another breather, and figure out how to deal with the sinking mud.
In terms of the trap, you are able to mark the hazardous area by making a Survival (trained only) check to bypass it, otherwise, a 5 ft jump into the house would do as well.
Also let me know if you wish to do anything additionally, else when we move into the house, choose again your exploration tactic!
Conditions: Abi -4, Valeros -6, Siv -1, Mavis -8
Taleath Oakbough |
Glad you didn't need to wait on me to resolve that!
Taleath tries to mark the extent of the sinking mud, probing with a stick found in the area, or his blade if he can't find one, to make it easier for everyone (self included) to avoid.
Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Or not.
GM Batpony |
It is a survival DC15 to "disable" the hazardin case anyone was wondering. And the Athletics check is a DC10 (5 + x distance)
Abishek Padiyath |
Athletics: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Yay! I assumed a 10' gap was a simple Leap action.
"You take a careful but short jump. You can Leap up to 10 feet horizontally if your Speed is at least 15 feet, or up to 15 feet horizontally if your Speed is at least 30 feet."
