Liranna Vomoyosana |
Liranna smirks at the kobold’s praise and puts away her tools. ”Definitely need some light. Thanks!”
Liranna will sneak!
Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Mavis the Maroon |
My dancing lights are still out. I can leave them out but I must concentrate on moving them. I do not mind doing so. She will then continue to move her lights as the party moves on ahead. She keeps one near the front, on in the middle of the group and one near the back.
Sivrilltri Ilosim |
"I am fine with the light provided, my elven eyes have no trouble in this cesspool." Keeping his blade handy Siv continues his search, meticulously covering as much area as possible.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7Low-Light.
GM Batpony |
Abi, Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
As you head down the path, lit by Mavis's dancing lights, Siv suddenly hears a click as he steps towards another interjection. Out of the walls, a jagged blade launches itself swinging like a pendulum hung from the ceiling. Luckily for the Paladin, he is nimble enough to immediately shift his body to avoid the blade.
Slashing Blade!: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14S: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Siv: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Encounter Round 1
Liranna (24 Stealth), Mavis, Abi, Taleath
???
Valeros, Siv
We have gone into encounter mode! Map is updated into handouts, Bolded names are up!
Abishek Padiyath |
Abishek waves his hand towards Valeros' weapon. "Spasht karana." It glows with a pale violet light, enough to illuminate twenty feet around the strapping man-of-arms.
He then raises a hand in the air, and speaks the same aberrant tongue. "Suraksha." A shimmering aegis of force appears in front of the sorcerer.
He turns towards the dark tunnels, arm reaching for his weapon. "Shall we?"
++ casting light on Valeros' weapon
+ casting shield on self
Liranna Vomoyosana |
Liranna waits in the shadows and pulls out her shortbow, ready for anything to attack.
1st action: Pull out Shortbow
Unsure how many actions it takes to ready an attack, but I will ready a shot when I see an enemy.
GM Batpony |
Ready is 2 action task, and you can do it to do a task taking only a single action.
Mavis the Maroon |
Mavis will draw and load her crossbow. She steadies herself for the battle to be. She then moves to the side to take a shot at whatever vile monstrositie will round the corner.
GM Batpony |
The sewer corridor seems empty for some, but for some they notice a few kobolds coming into sight! A few of them are armed slings, but one of the kobold, presumably their leader, holds a staff.
Encounter Round 1/2
Liranna (24 Stealth), Mavis, Abi, Taleath
Kobolds! (13 Stealth)
Valeros, Siv
Only Mavis, Abi, and Taleath has noticed the kobolds. Others need to make a seek action to notice them.
Mavis, just like to confirm your character placement, would you like to step into the sewerage stream?
Sivrilltri Ilosim |
Siv moves cautiously around the corner careful not to fall into the sewage. He peers into the gloom ahead straining his sight and hearing to the max. His heart pumping faster as he leads his friends further into the unknown.
I will use a seek action I get a +2 circumstance bonus due to low light vision.
Seek Action +2 L.L.: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
I will move up 1 square as a second action
I will ready an attack action as my third action, The trigger: If enemy in range attack
To hit with elven blade,Finesse,Forceful: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Taleath Oakbough |
Taleath calls out "Company forward and right! Be ready!" as he moves through the sewage and to the opposite wall, picking out the kobold in the back as probably being the biggest threat.
Bow attack @ Black: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
1) Point out
2) Stride
3) Attack (Bow)
I was explicit that I was walking with the bow ready . . .. If GM rules I need to interact with an item (ready) instead, so be it.
Liranna Vomoyosana |
Liranna steps forward, trying to seek out the kobolds but will rely on Taleath pointing them out if unsuccessful. She then takes a shot at Green with her bow!
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Sensed Flat Check: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Since Taleath pointed them out, Liranna senses them and passed the DC11 flat check to attack correctly.
1st: Step
2nd: Seek
3rd: Attack
GM Batpony |
I was explicit that I was walking with the bow ready . . .. If GM rules I need to interact with an item (ready) instead, so be it.
That's fine. It would make sense with your weapons out as you are heading towards hostile terrain.
Taleath reveals to the Pathfinders that the Dragon Shark's are within range and attempting to sneak up on to them! The Kobolds were likely alarmed by the trap earlier, as they come through with their weapons drawn.
Taletah, and Liranna (from within the shadows) immediately turn on the offence firing at range at the kobolds! Their arrows hit, and pierce the knees of their respective targets.
Siv can retcon his action if he wishes.
Encounter Round 1/2
Liranna , Mavis, Abi, Taleath
Kobolds! (13 Stealth) Green - 4, Black -4
Valeros, Siv (Retcon?)
Also forgot to point this out; The sewer water in the canals here is roughly knee-deep and acts as difficult terrain. Creatures inside a canal square might gain cover against attacks originating outside of canal squares. Creatures inside a canal square can also use the Take Cover action (Pathfinder Playtest Rulebook 301) to increase the cover bonus. I had earlier thought that you might be sickened entering into sewage, but I believe i'm confusing that for another scenario.
Abishek Padiyath |
Abi wrinkles his once-noble nose
And into the brackish sewage he goes.
There, he swallows the last of his pride.
And chucks an ancestral dagger - err, tried.
Ranged attack (dagger, thrown 10): 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 4 = 2

+ Interact (draw dagger)
+ Attack (ranged, dagger)
Playtest Pregen |
Valeros moves forward around the corner with his sword already drawn. Move
He swings his blade at the nearest kobold.
Strike

Then, he raises his shield.

Sivrilltri Ilosim |
Ok thank you, I will count my character from his original position. Since the Kobolds are revealed I don't believe I need to seek.
Move action: Move 2 Squares=15 feet (5 feet simple terrain, Move 10 feet into difficult)
Attack Action 1: Attack Yellow Kobold.
To Hit with Elven Blade, Finesse, Forceful: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Damage S: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Attack Action 2: Follow Up Attack yellow Kobold
Second Hit with Elven Blade, Finesse, Forceful: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Damage (Add +1 from forceful) S: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
On Kobolds Turn: Retributive Strike: Reaction, Trigger: Valeros is attacked.
Reaction Hit with Elven Blade, Finesse, Forceful: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4
Damage S: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Strike before the opponent rolls the damage for the triggering hit. If your attack hits, the target is enfeebled 1 for the remainder of its turn. If killed Valeros takes no damage from triggering strike.
I hope I did all that correct.
Playtest Pregen |
Then, he raises his shield.
Raise a Shield
I think that Valeros' Reactive Shield ability negates the need to do this last actin as he raises his shield reactively. So, if possible, I'd like to retcon his third action to another strike.
Valeros swings his blade once again at the nearest kobold.
Strike with Multiple Attack Penalty
Longsword: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (14) + 6 - 5 = 15
Damage (S): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
GM Batpony |
Siv, you are correct that you need not seek to realise where the attacker is, but the point out action merely sensed (but not seen) them required you to still make a DC11 flat check to see if your attack hits. Likewise, Valeros should also do the same.
Siv Sense: 1d20 ⇒ 5
SIv Sense: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Val Sense: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Val Sense: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Valeros, that is correct, the Reactive shield feat allows you to raise his shield as a reaction rather than a combat action, but you don't get the benefits of shield block.
The kobolds have a sudden realisation that the jig (attempting to sneak up) is up before it began as the Pathfinders in full force run straight towards the enemy!
Siv attempts to strike hard but fails to be sure where the enemy is in the darkness. Similarly Valeros attempts to bring his sword to the opponent, but fails to find the target!
The Kobolds react by forming a line, dropping their slings in favour for a light pick, and attack Valeros and Siv. One more stays behind and throws some rocks over.
light pick vs Siv: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9P: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
light pick vs Siv, reiterative: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 5 - 4 = 6P: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
light pick vs Siv: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18P: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
light pick vs Valeros: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7P: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
light pick vs Valeros, reiterative: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 5 - 4 = 17P: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3 What is Valeros AC with shield? does 17 hit?
Sling vs Valeros: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7B: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Sling vs Valeros: 1d20 + 5 - 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 5 = 7B: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Sling vs Valeros: 1d20 + 5 - 10 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 10 = 2B: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
But in general, the kobolds prove to be weak and incompetent fighters from their display.
The kobold in the back though, turns to magic to counter attack, three translucent large bullet materialize form thin air and darts towards Taleath! It knocks into him with great force!
MM!: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 1, 3) + 3 = 11
Encounter Round 2/3
Liranna , Mavis, Abi, Taleath -11
Kobolds! Green -4, Black -4
Valeros (-3?), Siv -1
All Kobolds are now seen!
Taleath Oakbough |
Taleath howls in pain as the magic missiles tear through his body. He takes this as a sign, though, that he needs to drop the caster even quicker than he had thought.
1) Stride
2) Hunt Target (Black)
3) Hunted Shot
Bow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Bow: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 5 - 4 = 3
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
In the unlikely event that the 24 is high enough for a critical success . . .. I think I have to roll a 20 to critically succeed against this guy.
Deadly: 1d10 ⇒ 6
Those 3 action magic missile spells will kill us all, quickly.
Abishek Padiyath |
Abishek sees the kobold he threw his dagger at snarl and taunt him and his aim. Then Abi holds out his hand, summoning an otherworldly force to send the dagger flying towards the brash red-scale.
Ranged attack vs. Yellow, telekinetic projectile: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
It flies across the corridor, missing the kobold, and clattering harmlessly against the wall on the other side.
Abishek curses his luck as well as his infernal patrons, then cowers behind the low drainage wall to avoid any sort of return fire.
++ Cast spell (telekinetic projectile)
+ Take Cover
Mavis the Maroon |
Mavis will move ahead with the group and round the corner. She then begins cating a spell, Gnotti zard! she yells out as the vines shoot out from her hand. She aims for the yellow kobold.
Ranged touch attack, tanglefoot: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Traits: Arcane, Cantrip, Conjuration, Plant
Cantrip
Heightened to 1st Level
Casting: (1) Somatic Casting, (1) Verbal Casting
Range: 30 feet
Targets: one creature
A vine covered in sticky sap appears from thin air, flicking from your hand and lashing itself to the target. Attempt a ranged touch attack against the target.
Success The target is entangled. It can attempt an Acrobatics or Athletics check against your spell DC to remove the entangled condition (and immobile condition, if necessary).
Critical Success Per success, and the target immobile as long as it’s entangled.
Failure No effect.
GM Batpony |
24 is a critical success! For those who are not yet aware of critical success, when you make an attack and roll a natural 20 (the number on the die is 20), or if the result of your attack exceeds the target’s AC by 10, this is called a critical success (also known as a critical hit). If you critically succeed at a Strike, your attack deals double damage. This damage doubling applies only on Strikes.
Crit damage?: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Critical success for deadly weapons double the damage and add a deadly damage. i.e. 2d6+d10 for this case. Total damage from the crit is 13!
Taleath's aim holds true and the arrow pierces through the caster's eye. "Shrrrraaaakkkkk!" He yells in pain, as the pain overcomes him, causing him to succumb to his injuries falling unconscious.
Abishek, however, doesn't have the same amount of luck. His carefully crafted projectile flies off target knocking the wall harmless, but the loud knock attracts the kobold's attention momentarily as they turnt their heads to see the source of the noise. Mavis takes the opportunity to cast a vine that entraps and entangles the yellow eyed kobold.
Encounter Round 2/3
Liranna , Mavis, Abi, Taleath -11
Kobolds! Green -4, Black (unconscious) Yellow (entangled)
Valeros (-3?), Siv -1
Liranna Vomoyosana |
Seeing the immediate threat in the caster go down, Liranna decides to go a bit daring and moves, dropping her bow in the process, to tumble through the Yellow Kobold's space.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
With a miraculous and extremely graceful tumble, she gets through and pulls out her rapier upon flanking the Blue Kobold.
I'm assuming I can do the Acrobatics check as part of my Stride action? I looked it up but it didn't specify in the rules whether it was it's own action or not. If it is, I'll just end my turn with Stride, Acrobatics, Pull Rapier Out. If it's not, I'll Strike with my Rapier on blue!
Rapier, Flank: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 5
I will also be using my Reaction for Nimble Dodge to +2 to my AC against the first attack at me.
Abishek Padiyath |
Tumble Through is a single action. (pg. 145)
Attempt an Acrobatics check against the enemy’s Reflex DC as soon as you try to enter its space.
You can Tumble Through using Climb, Fly, Swim, or another movement type in the appropriate environment.
Success You move through the enemy’s space, treating the squares in its space as difficult terrain. If you don’t have enough Speed to move all the way through its space, you get the same effect as on a failure.
Failure Your movement ends, and you trigger reactions (such as Attacks of Opportunity) as if you had moved out of the square you started in.
Playtest Pregen |
What is Valeros AC with shield? does 17 hit?
AC with shield is 19 [AC 19=10(base)+2(Dex)+4(chain mail)+1(trained, armor/shield proficiency modifier)+2(shield)]
Also, missed that Valeros' Agile trait on his sword reduces his multiple attack penalty (correct values used below).
"These so-called 'Dragonsharks' have few actual teeth." Valeros remarks with a smile as he slashes his blade across the kobold in front of him.
Melee Strike(Longsword) v. green: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Melee Strike(Longsword) v. green: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 6 - 4 = 5
Damage (S): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Then, he goes for a stab.
Melee Strike(Longsword) v. green (if green is down, blue): 1d20 + 6 - 8 ⇒ (20) + 6 - 8 = 18

GM Batpony |
Liranna boldly enters the fray and gets right in between the enemy with some tumbling. She attempts a strike at the kobold, but he deflects the attack with his pick! *Ching!*
Valeros channels his inner energy and unleashes a multitude of strikes at the kobolds, skilfully he cuts two down!
The Red eyed kobold drops his sling in favour of the light pick as his allies did earlier, and the attempt to retaliate! But they fail to make an impact as Liranna and Siv easily deflect their attacks. *Ching Ching Ching!*

Mavis the Maroon |
Pulls up her crossbow and fires a shot at the remaining kobold. She then reloads it.
Attack, Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
I also forgot the DC of tanglefoot it 13 but it should only last one rounf
GM Batpony |
I totally forgot about the entangled condition! It seems his attack did not make it so it likely doesn't need retcon but being entangled essentially requires the target to make a DC5 flat check or lose whatever action it attempts. And Hampered 10 condition (reduce speed by 10feet)
More flurry of projectiles fly in the direction of the kobolds! Taleath has an eye on the hunt and fires an arrow that strikes one more kobold. The other projectiles from Mavis and Taleath hit against the walls.
Yellow is unconscious! Missed against Red due to soft cover
Playtest Pregen |

Abishek feels that enough is enough, and so he grabs his trusty whip. "By the spirits bound to my family name, I shall strike you down, right where..." Before he can finish his threat, the valiant Valeros sallies forth and strikes the kobold down.
"... where... you... stand."
Mavis the Maroon |
Mavis is getting frustrated with this fight and the archaic crossbow. She tosses it aside raises her hands and sighs Magicus Missileth pokus. Three sparks shoot out of her fingers landing straight on the last kobold.
Magic MIssile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1, 3) + 3 = 10
GM Batpony |
With a strong arm, the Pathfinder critically wounds the remaining shark dragons, in time for Fazgyn and company to witness your display of prowess. From afar, the sewer dragon trapper yells, ” Hail Pathfinders! I si you doez good in defeating the false tribe! Eggscellent!”
As you peruse the belongings of the fallen enemy, you find a few mundane equipment but something from the sorcere’s spellbook easily catches your eye. Slightly different in colour, a finer piece of parchment, soaked and stuff into his spellbook is what looks to be an excerpt from some sort of journal. Why it is of importance to you, is because the some of the names written on the journal are that of the missing or dead at the presumed hands of the Rose Street Killer!
Combat over, refer new handout in slides!
GM Batpony |
Concluding the mission, you return to Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin to report on your successful public relation campaign. Upon reaching the lodge, you relay to him your endeavours and unusual discovery of the waterlogged journal.
The captain reacts jovially to the results, "Very good job! I'll ensure that my fellow Venture Captain, Drandle Drang hears of your good work here. The Sewer Dragons are one of our closest allies, I'm surprise you've not heard of them before today."
He takes a bit more time to read through the journal excerpt, but eventually relents as he isn't able to make much more of it than you at the current time. "Well, this is certainly interesting, but I don't know what to make of it yet. I suggest you head home for now, take a shower, maybe two, and await for further instructions."
~~~
And true enough to his word, in a few days, another missive arrives at your door by a Halfling runner working for the society. Refer to Handouts. He hands you a small bag containing 35sp.
The Puddles district in Absalom is one that most people try to avoid. After suffering an earthquake 2 decades ago, the town remains in a ruined state with some of the district perpetually sinking in the ground. Anyone with the means, have left the puddles, leaving behind a desperate and underfunded district plagued with flooding and crime.
Rain patters down onto the muddy streets of Absalom’s Puddles district, covering it with the murky pools of water that give the district its name. The buildings that line the streets have seen better days. Many of them are decaying, shuttered, or boarded up. The door of one of these buildings swings open, letting rats rush out into the streets. A woman wearing leather armor and a bronze badge stands in the doorway, slashing a shortsword into the swarm of rats and urging them out of the building. On her forearm, a tattoo of a dog animates and snarls.
Assume a few days have past and you can refresh your resources. What do you do?
Playtest Pregen |
Valeros considers what he may know of the woman's tattoo.
Lore or Society: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Thinking it rather interesting, he calls out, "You can kill more rats with poison than a blade!"
Abishek Padiyath |
Abi buffs his nails on his silken robes. "I find fire works great for vermin, though the buildings they need flushed out of tend to be flammable." He looks over the neighbourhood, and frowns. "Who knows, perhaps a little fire or two in these parts might actually be an improvement."
Mavis the Maroon |
Mavis would have done some studying on the Muckruckers, the local Puddles guard, before heading down to join the others.
Society (recall Knowledge): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
She looks over the women in the armor and notices the bronze badge. You must be one of the guards from the Puddles. Well met. We are from Pathfinder Society on an important errand. Could we trouble you for a moment of your time?
GM Batpony |
Mavis learns that the Muckruckers, purely made of volunteers, are probably the only thing keeping the Puddles from falling apart into disaster. They are known to be people with noble intent, but the means to an end sometimes could be questionable. Without proper authority, (the Absalom guards stay far and clear) in the fallen district, every Muckrucker is seen as a hero to the poor and underprivileged.
Your shout to her causes a distraction as she hits the ground instead of a rat. *Clink* Frustrated, she turns around to address you. "“Do you need something? As you can see, I’m busy. Can’t have vermin chewing thorough our food stores, and this isn’t even the first swarm of rats I’ve dealt with today. They’ve been everywhere lately.”
Mavis the Maroon |
Mavis puts out her hand as it glows slightly. In front of the guard one of the rats rises up and its little paws swim in the air trying to escape. With her other hand, Mavis conjures a small ball of acid which flies towards the rat. The rat squeals as it's skin and fur sizzle.
Mavis says I'm sure my friends and I could help you with your rats if you just give us a minute of your time and maybe a bit of your help.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
She only casts prestidigitations to lift the rat and acid splash for 1d4 ⇒ 3.
GM Batpony |
She looks surprised, in a good way, and softens her tone to continue the conversation, “Thanks, but unless you're signing up as Muckruckers, your help won't be necessary here. You see, They’ve been everywhere for the last week or so. Rats and flies, not to mention sewer oozes, crawling up into the street. We don’t know what’s got them so worked up.” She seemed to have resign to the idea and continues hacking away at the rats. "But nonetheless speak, You've caught my attention."
Sivrilltri Ilosim |
Siv looks askance at his elven comrade, "My blunt friend is correct, although I might have lead with We are investigating the disappearance of several members of the local community." a wry smile passed his lips and he says "But his way works as well."
GM Batpony |
She squints her eyes slightly, and looks a little hesitant, even suspicious at the pair of elves.
Please make another Diplomacy check!
Playtest Pregen |
"Sounds as though you certainly have your hands full." Valeros notes. "We recently dispatched some troublesome kobolds and now we are on the trail of a killer--as my elven companions have so artfully noted. Perhaps one these oozes you described could be the culprit--I understand that their appetites can be insatiable."
"Regardless, if you can provide us with some information to allow us to tackle some of these other threats, that would free you Muckrakers to continue your capable handling of others." the fighter punctuates his statement by stepping on a fleeing rat.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Mavis the Maroon |
