The dwarven monster holds aloft the object it clutches and chants to an ancient elemental patron. When he has finished his invocation he points at Derlan and says a single word: "Flee."

Ko turns to find that only Ludi has begun to withdraw. The shadows outside cease moving.

Derlan, you are allowed a save vs. spell (w/Wis save bonus) to ignore the command. Everyone is up, either Derlan or Ekee are closest to Jaryx, will update map as soon as I can.

Max HP: 17 | AC 3 | Reaction +2 | Saves: Poison, Paralyzation, or Death Magic: 7; Rod,Staff, or Wand 14; Petrification or Polymorph: 13; Breath Weapon: 16; Spell: 12 (9 mind effecting)

Save vs. Spell: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

The Exchange

Heads up travelling a few days! Feel free to bot..was going to try and backstab some suckers next round.

The cursed undead's magic takes root in Derlan's mind and the halfling makes a hurried retreat away from the chamber.

A failed save that could save your life, lol. Map looks current, though I need to add the outside since the fight may go that way. Ludi is actually the next closest to Jaryx. I'm going to assume Dis is less interested in backstabbing Jaryx than the monster.

The Exchange

Does the door have a lock on it? Maybe I could close the door and jam the mechanism shut, trapping it inside after Jar and Lud come out.

It does have a lock built into the door, yes, it was the key from the corpse outside. It had previously been barricaded from the outside as well. Ludi and Jaryx are still inside, because of Jaryx' curse, he is likely to attack him or Ekee if he Ludi moves behind her, and that would give you an opportunity to try and close/lock the door. And yeah, Jaryx, I'm leaving the actual attack on you, have fun.

Thri-Kreen Fighter(Tik-Tik) LVL 3 EXP 11,677

Ko watches and waits, looking for an opening.

Jaryx moves toward Ludi, the curse bidding him to destroy his companions. Without word and seemingly without thought the half-giant lashes out at Ludi.

Lotulis (THAC0 18): 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 1 = 15 (strength, specialization)
Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 2 = 15 (strength, specialization)

Thri-Kreen Fighter(Tik-Tik) LVL 3 EXP 11,677

Question, how are we doing movement in combat?

I've just been hand-waving a lot of it at the second, going with a mixture of rules, common sense, and just descriptions. Will give Ludi just a little more time since holidays can be a mess.

If Ludi happens to move further away, Jaryx will simply attack the closest person.

DECEASED

I already posted way earlier that I'm moving away from Jaryx? Did something change?

Thri-Kreen Fighter(Tik-Tik) LVL 3 EXP 11,677

Ok, just wanted to make sure since 2nd ed was always vague about the subject.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22Thac0:18
2d4 + 8 ⇒ (1, 4) + 8 = 13
Add whatever bonus the weapon has if any.
Ko,shudders as her decision is made for her. She must end the threat...

Quickly rushing forward Ko brings her Gythka to bear, stabbing out at the creature that had enthralled her adopted g'tokmma'ak.

Oh! I think I just got distracted by the holidays and a crazy month, sorry! So yes, Ekee will be the target and I'll fix the map just after posting. I should be doing my round recaps, apologies for spacing! Yeah, 2nd ed movement is a little wonky, probably as a result of the weird timing of rounds.

Jaryx just misses Ekee with his lotulis, stepping out of the room to try and take the elf down.

Ko's instincts kick in as she moves forward with her new gythka to address the current major threat, Jaryx himself. The weapon spears into the half-giant's torso, opening a nasty gash.

And it will be 14 damage, rather than 13. Don't forget Derlan healed some of your damage this round. Everyone is up, only the baddie remains in the chamber, but an enraged Jaryx is right at the door and obviously dangerous...

The Exchange

Dismoon sees the door ajar just behind the glamoured Jaryx, and decides the opportunity is upon her. She flips upside from feet to hands and cartwheels the full force of her body into the door like a spring, slamming it shut quickly and whipping herself out of harms way...or so she hoped...

Tumbling: 1d20 ⇒ 11

This improves my AC by 4, making it 0 until my next turn. If I have the action I will bar/lock it as well

The cursed half-giant sneers at the thri-kreen warrior and hacks away.

Lotulis (THAC0 18): 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 1 = 22 (strength, specialization)
Damage: 1d12 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10 (vs. L, strength, specialization)

DECEASED

@DM: I think Ko-Tik said she was attacking the person who enthralled Jaryx, not Jaryx himself - so, presumably the dwarf dude?

Thri-Kreen Fighter(Tik-Tik) LVL 3 EXP 11,677

I'm thinking he is basically saying that Jaryx was blocking the door.

N Female 1/2 Elf Gladiator (Jazst) Lvl 4 | HP 38/38| AC 4/3/2|DA -4 |MDA +1|SV 13,15,14,16,16|+1 RA| Infravision

"Hey over here!"

Ekee shouts at Jaryx as she waves the impailer in the half-giant's face.

"Good going with the door Dis. Now see if you can get him to chase you. Otherwise we may have to kill him. Derlan, Ludi do either of you have any gifts that might counter the vile magic on our friend?"

Ekee says to the group as she readies the impailer to strike Jaryx if he attacks.

(readied attack)
Impailer attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 (specialization)
damage if hit: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 (specialization, Strength)
(THACO 18)

The Exchange

"The gith may have us boxed in, but I'll try! Hey, boulder nuts! This way!" she spits on Jaryx.

Okay, revised Ko results:

Ko leaps smoothly through the air with a buzzing sound. Her gythka penetrates the dwarf's thick muscles causing it to howl in pain. Ichor seeps from the creature's abdomen where the weapon penetrated it's undead flesh. The newly acquired weapon seems to have done significant damage to the monster.

The door slams shut behind the Kreen hunter, allowing her the honor of the deathblow as her pack cunningly trapped the prey inside with her.

This means that I'm assuming Jaryx is actually attacking Ekee, so make that change to the post just above. I will start doing round recaps going forward, I can just get a little lazy. So...Ludi and Derlan I believe? The command spell was only a single round.

Ekee narrowly ducks the half-giant's frenzied attack and she finds herself unable to really bring her full effort to harming Jaryx resulting in a wide miss.

Thri-Kreen Fighter(Tik-Tik) LVL 3 EXP 11,677

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
2d4 + 8 ⇒ (1, 1) + 8 = 10

Ko swings wildly attempting to slaughter the dwarf before he can end her life.

DECEASED

"No, I don't have that kind of telepathic control," says Ludi. "Either Ko kills the banshee and the spell breaks, or..." He lets the sentence trail off.

I don't think there's anything I can do from here, so I guess just stand around doing nothing.

Not that I as a player want to kill another PC here, but how didn't Jaryx hit (whoever it has finally been determined he was attacking? I don't think there are any -4 ACs around here, which is what his attack would have struck.

I think I was focused on fixing round 2 and paid attention to that 15 rather than the more recent round 3 22. So yeah, Ekee, my fault, react in post but 10 damage will be going your way. In the morning I'll catch up to most recent posts.

Psi: 1d20 ⇒ 19

Ko:
The undead monster stares into Ko's eyes and sneers. "They know I cannot be defeated and have locked you in!" The fierce creature seems to focus itself as if attempting to manifest psionic powers. The smell of caustic chemicals fill the air, but the dwarf-thing's howling rage indicates it failed to harness it's will.

Derlan takes cover, trying to avoid the lethal half-giant's blows. At the stairs outside the shadows have stopped moving entirely and one of the gith issues a shrill whistle.

Assuming Derlan is still not fully back so just assuming full defense on his part this round. Everyone else is up again. Happy New Year!

Round 3 Recap

Derlan - Dives for cover.
Dismoon - Contains one threat.
Ekee - Misses Jaryx.
Jaryx - Does NOT miss Ekee!
Ko-Tik - Misses the baddie.
Ludi - Defense time.

Wincing in pain at the solid blow dealt by the half giant Ekee narrows her eyes, looks at Dis and shouts in Elvish

"Auta minua saamaan hänet ulos. Ja kutsua Gith tämä puolue.

Elvish:
Help me get him outside. and invite the Gith to this party.

I'm trying out Finnish for Elven.

Sparing a quick glance at the others she says.

"Ludi, Derlan go help Ko if you can."

Spinning the impailer over her head and feinting at the Half-Giant she moves toward the exit.

"Hey big guy over here!"

readied attack if Jaryx attacks or if outside and Gith are there: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17 (specialization)

(THACO 18)

attack damage if hit: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 (strength, specialization)

Max HP: 17 | AC 3 | Reaction +2 | Saves: Poison, Paralyzation, or Death Magic: 7; Rod,Staff, or Wand 14; Petrification or Polymorph: 13; Breath Weapon: 16; Spell: 12 (9 mind effecting)

I am back now (finally!)

Recovering from the mage that took hold of his mind, Derlan moves to Ko and tries to heal him.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 ⇒ 4

The Exchange

"Ehkä kutsutaan häntä "pieneksi" ... hän pitää siitä."

Elvish:
Maybe call him "small"...he likes that.

Dis does a backflip off the wall, her powerful thighs accelerating her towards the exit...and sure encounter with the gith. She clacks her tribal sword on the floor a few times as her acrobatics continue...

Tumbling: 1d20 ⇒ 11

AC 0

Thri-Kreen Fighter(Tik-Tik) LVL 3 EXP 11,677

Ko does not comprehend the creature, having given herself fully to her racial memory. To hunt the hunter the only clear thought in her head. It was rarely useful to speak with such prey.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 And clearly having no luck.

The curse still plaging the half-giant, Jaryx slashes at Ekee again.

Lotulis (THAC0 18): 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 1 = 22 (strength, specialization)
Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14 (strength, specialization)

Dis bounds out of the ruins and onto the surface. Two gith flank the fallen block of stone, crouched low with spears at the ready. As soon as they spot the elf, they strike.

Spear w/spring vs. TH 17: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Damage if hit: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Spear w/spring vs. TH 17: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Damage if hit: 1d6 ⇒ 6

She twists away from the on-coming assault, using her grace and skill to avoid one attack altogether and minimize the other.

[ooc]So just one to Dis. Ludi is still up.[/dice]

The Exchange

DM I had succeeded on a tumbling check reducing my AC by 4 (from 4 to 0), so I don't think anything hit unless I am stacking things that shouldn't be stacked?

Nope, I'm continuing my pattern of minor errors is all, lol, forgot about the tumble, so yeah no damage.

DECEASED

Clearly quite dismayed at this difficult situation and the trap that it presents - between a rock and a hard place, essentially - Ludi nonetheless advances hesitantly on the banshee and stabs cautiously at it with his spear.

Spear attack (THAC0 20): 1d20 ⇒ 6

Okay Ludi must have got caught up in there too, maybe it will do something dumb afterall. Still applying Derlan's heal to Ekee so she isn't bleeding to death, but I'll let Ludi be stuck there too. I also realized that Ekee actually did hit Jaryx, so check the damage above.

The skinless dwarf tries once more to channel The Way.

Psi: 1d20 ⇒ 8

It hisses as steam rises from it's body and Ludi and Ko both feel a precipitous drop in temperature. A cloying field of decay fills their senses for a moment. It seems the monster was not immune to it's own effect.

10 Damage to both of you.

Round 4 Recap

Undead - Activates psionics.
Gith1 - Jumps at Dis.
Gith2 - Also jumps at Dis.
Derlan - Dives heals Ekee.
Dismoon - Exits the ruins and missed by Gith.
Ekee - Pokes Jaryx.
Jaryx - Does NOT miss Ekee, drops her!
Ko-Tik - Misses the baddie.
Ludi - Also misses the baddie.

So everyone is up for round 5. Ko and Ludi are in the room with the thing, Jaryx and Derlan are in the main room. Ekee is as well but she's unconscious on the floor after hoping to draw Jaryx out. Dismoon is outside with two gith before her.

DECEASED

Spear attack (THAC0 20): 1d20 ⇒ 7

Sizzling from the cold, Ludi is desperate to finish the creature, but it seems fortune is not with him.

With Ekee down and no longer a threat, the cursed half-giant turns his grim attention toward Dismoon. Fortunately for the elf, the half-giant's swing is a bit too slow and misses his target.

Lotulis (THAC0 = 18): 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 1 = 12 (strength, specialization)
Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 2 = 15 (strength, specialization)

So that means you have Jaryx behind,v and two gith in front of, Dis. Ekee is at -1 but stable. Derlan is alone in the main hallway, with Ludi and Ko nearest in the room with the bad dwarf. That bad guy BTW, looks extremely damaged.

The Exchange

So gith and Jaryx are all within my melee range? Could map be updated, slightly unsure of placement. Also, I was thinking 0=dead...what rules are we using for hp below 0?

I want to find a way to fix my maps in general, been dropping the ball on them in all my games lately it seems like. I will try and update this particular one ASAP, but you are correct for the moment. The broken pillars are objects you could use for cover or a hide attempt. Technically it is an optional rule, but see "Hovering at Death's Door" in the DMG.

The Exchange

Map is perfect imo, just needs update.

Dis tries to crash the befuddled Jaryx into the ambushing Gith as she somersaults betwixt them all...

Tumbling: 1d20 ⇒ 15 vs 19

N Female 1/2 Elf Gladiator (Jazst) Lvl 4 | HP 38/38| AC 4/3/2|DA -4 |MDA +1|SV 13,15,14,16,16|+1 RA| Infravision

The blow from A three quarter ton Half-Giant sends the 100 pound Half-Elf slamming into the wall. She falls face down and does not move. A puddle of red slowly forms around her.

A little delayed but ultimately enjoyable post, lol. So Ko and Derlan are up still.

Thri-Kreen Fighter(Tik-Tik) LVL 3 EXP 11,677

Ko continues to strike at the dwarf, attempting to bring it low.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
2d4 + 8 ⇒ (2, 4) + 8 = 14

The blue glow reflects off of Ko's gythka as it is swung at the vicious unliving monster. Ludi's eyes see the cursed dwarf in one bright white flash from the curious sphere on the ground, snarling and frenzied. A split second later there is a second flash revealing the grotesque undead's headless body. The body and head both thud dully in the inch of dust and silt coating the stone floor.

Alright just Derlan now. And despite the timing of the post, Ekee is stable at the moment.

Max HP: 17 | AC 3 | Reaction +2 | Saves: Poison, Paralyzation, or Death Magic: 7; Rod,Staff, or Wand 14; Petrification or Polymorph: 13; Breath Weapon: 16; Spell: 12 (9 mind effecting)

Seeing that the Dwarf is responsible for the assault of his charges, Derlan uses his Sling on him.

Thac0 17 with sling

Attack Roll: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Damage Roll: 1d4 ⇒ 3

I guess I should have been more clear and less dramatic. Or just as dramatic but still more clear...Ko took out the undead dwarf. Only the two gith outside (and Jaryx for a few more rounds) remains a threat. I will move ahead a bit and we can give Derlan an extra action next round if desired. BTW, Dis? I don't think you actually have to make a check to tumble for +4. It seems more conditional, especially since the other main adventuring use specifically does mention a check. I'm not 100% on that, but for ease I'm willing to go with it. I think it exists that way to essentially be the very early version of the mobility feat.

Outside, Dismoon slips past the two gith, putting them between her and a cursed Jaryx. One with spins and thrusts his spear at the elf, while the other looks to stab the new combatant.

Spear TH17: 1d20 ⇒ 2 vs Dismoon
Damage if hit: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Spear TH17: 1d20 ⇒ 6 vs Jaryx
Damage if hit: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Neither raider gets close to the mark.

Round 5 Recap

Gith1 - Misses Dis.
Gith2 - Misses Jaryx.
Derlan - Slings a dead guy.
Dismoon - Puts hostiles between her and Jaryx.
Ekee - Grabs a nap.
Jaryx - Joins the party outside, misses Dismoon.
Ko-Tik - Finishes off the undead.
Ludi - Misses the baddie.

Everyone is up. Jaryx has three rounds of curse remaining and two gith between him and Dismoon.

DECEASED

Deciding that there's no point staying anywhere near Jaryx now that the banshee is dispatched, Ludi instead moves to get away from the half-giant and into the fray with the gith.

Spear attack, THAC0 20: 1d20 ⇒ 14 -> hits AC 6
Spear damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
