Thorongil will assist in packing all that can be salvaged from the fort.

Even gear that he feels should be rightfully returned to the colonists he will take, at least to return to the colonists.

He also considers the response of the town to the attack, especially the sheriff.

The town will likely want vengeance on the guilty parties; this is understandable, but his "word" of what he witnessed will likely not carry much weight with the town as they don't know him or Letswalo very well yet.

Further, he thinks of the actions and attitudes of the sheriff specifically and recalls all he can about her.

Knowing that her demeanor, and her faith, suggests a person dedicated to both good, but also law, it occurs to him that even if she believes the Halfling's story as a good person would do (good people often don't need legal evidence when they believe something in their heart, as she well might), she'll likely need more concrete proof via some sort of trial as she follows the law via her goddess and isn't the sort to go on simply emotional or "gut responses" to the information.

Thus, he'll do what he can to collect every piece of proof to bring to her on their return to make sure that they have information to allay any suspicions of the town, but specifically the sheriff.

GM; you mentioned the rain would persist heavily for some time. I've seen movies where rainfall happens in the jungle and it can be heavy; is this more light rain or what?

A thin smile crosses Letswalo's face at the sight of the room's contents.

"These tools will come in very handy for our future trips, I volunteer to hang onto them. And the tent and outfits will help keep us proof against the jungle."

Letswalo moves to claim the mwk artisan's tools.

Preparing for the way back, he mulls out loud:

"The colonists are going to be angry, and they've been set up to get angry at the halflings. I suggest that we do all we can to channel that anger at the lizard folk."

Thorongil lets Letswalo claim the Tools, confident that if the company is to split the loot that they will all get equal portions.

He pulls his cloak about him more snugly to keep out the rain.

"We shall assure that they are channeled at the guilty parties. However, based on all the evidence it does indeed seem that those are the lizard folk, though..." but he says no more on the matter, considering things.

As the company moves forward he notes that the rain does not seem to stop. Naturally, this does not bother him overmuch, but he does also consider the issues with the family being attacked.

"We should stop at the farm house on our return trip and see to it that it has taken no danger during our absence. Further, it would be wise to inform them to be wary for the southern fort has fallen and more threats to come that they are not prepared for..."

He turns to their new companions.

"Between here and the fortress is a farm house with good, honest people. We shall stop there and attempt to shelter there until the storm wanes somewhat, though we shall make all haste to reach the town and deal with the issues of your people," he says to the Halfling.

He turns to the priestess.

"They may be somewhat nervous about meeting folk outside of their community. Any aid you can provide to ease their tension would be very much appreciated," he says to her with a bow.

Not sure how severe the storms may be at this time of year or location, Thorongil decides to study the weather to gauge how long the rain may last today...

DC 15: Predict the weather up to 24 hours in advance. For every 5 points by which your Survival check result exceeds 15, you can predict the weather for one additional day in advance.

Survival to Check Weather -
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

As he studies the weather, he makes sure that their wounded Halfling companion is provided for during the trip.

"Do you suppose our companions may have stopped by the same farm house on the way to the town?" he asks Letswalo, curious to know what the man may think regarding what the other two ladies they had traveled with may have done.

As he waits for a response, he looks at Nooria.

"You have experience with military matters; what is your assessment of the actions of the lizardfolk? Why do you think they would attempt to instigate trouble between the Halflings and the colonists?"

"I understand there are many possible reasons, I am interested in your opinions personally, though..."

I mentioned that it was light, steady rain which started just after you met the Halfling Muhdzuzi and as you prep the mule and wagon for departure back to Pridon's Hearth.

Thorongil looked to the cloud-laden skies and then cast his eyes toward the coast. What had started off as a drizzle, had turned to light rain and was then accompanied by gusting winds. The warrior's keen eye, and knowledge of the waters and skies, spotted the first vestigial storm striking the coast below them.

Thorongil's Survival 27:

You are concerned with the growing mass offshore. You believe that it will only grow fiercer and the encroaching storm could hit the tiny town of Pridon's Hearth in a matter of hours. At the present time, it appears a smaller storm has made landfall. Once the larger storm (hurricane) finally hits landfall, you believe the rain will be much heavier than it has been since you landed and will continue to worsen over the coming days (For the next 1d12 ⇒ 9 hours, there will be constant drizzle, light rain and light winds, impacting visibility for those working or moving about outdoors.) (Visibility ranges will be reduced by one-quarter and anyone outside takes a -2 penalty on all Perception checks.)

When answering, Nooria continued speaking in Polyglot, so the Halfling could understand them and not feel excluded or as if they were plotting behind his back.

"I am acquainted with the Witterwil's as I stopped briefly at the farmstead on my way, here. Since they know who I am, and it appears they know the members of this party, then I am certain they will not grow anxious upon seeing us. They may be familiar with the Song'o of this region, so the presence of Muhdzuzi may not be too disturbing. If there is a need for soothing growing tensions, I will do what I can to settle the situation, you can be assured of that."

Nooria was perplexed by the warrior's presumption she was versed in the military matters and that of the occupants of this region. She answered him steadily and openly, "I do not possess an abundance of experience with the militia, here or elsewhere. I arrived the same day as you and know as much as I have been told by the town's pioneering residents. I have heard the Song'o mentioned by the locals, although nothing in relation to the Lizardfolk. I could not give you a true account of their motive for such strife; perhaps they are displeased with the intrusion of the colonists on what they consider their land. Whatever their reason, it appears these Lizardfolk are dangerous and cunning and we must do what we can to aid the town and surrounding farmsteads, especially since the town no longer has military support to protect its citizens. If they are casting blame onto the Halflings, then they must truly have something to hide via the subterfuge and diversion. Sheriff Adaela must be told of this so she can make the necessary preparations."

The party of four set off down the main and only muddy track toward Pridon's Hearth. They carefully/mindfully steered the mule and wagon forward, hoping not to lodge the wooden wheels into the deeper, muddier patches/holes of the trail. Muhdzuzi, having pulled the hood of his travelling cloak over his head, walked/trudged silently beside the small wagon; listening to the rain fall and hit the ground and surrounding grass/marsh land. The Halfling looked unhappy and still a little weary from his ordeal/confinement back at the fort.

The light rain was getting in their eyes and the clouds above were growing fuller and darker. Seeing what was ahead of them grew a little more difficult, yet after an hour and a half had passed, the party noted the outline of Witterwil farmstead just in the distance (100 feet from them).

Nooria, whose own head was covered by the hood of her cloak, looked up and then to Thorongil and Letswalo, "Do you still wish to stop a while here, or we merely warning them to be mindful and immediately proceeding onward to Pridon's Hearth?"

As the trio conversed about visiting the farmsteaders (Muhdzuzi remaining silent), the party reached the wooden gate at the front of the Witterwil property. In the back of the farm house, they could make out the large, red barn and figures moving the animals inside for shelter. The girl, Alice, who was standing by the barn door, turned around, and shielding her eyes from the rain attempted to see who was by the gate. She lifted her hand and turned back toward the barn. Not long after, Henry and Drusila Witterwil came out, latched the barn door and the three Witterwil's began making their way toward their visitors.

Alice seeing Nooria among the small group, smiled and exclaimed, "Nooria!", happy to see the priestess. Nooria smiled warmly at the child. "Hello, Alice."

Henry greeted the males and curiously glanced at the sullen Halfling now in their party. "It's good ta see you, again. We began to worry after the two ladies travelled through here earlier in the afternoon. Will you come in a while? The rain's not looking like it'll pass soon and the road's getting muddier for yer wagon, there. Unless you're in a hurry to return to town?"

Nooria looked to Henry Witterwil and enquired, "Eira, Runa and Oliya were fine when you saw them last? I would think they would have reached Pridon's Hearth by now - that is my hope at least."

Henry smiled at the lovely flame-haired, amber-eyed priestess, "Aye, no harm had befallen them when they reached us. I would say they made their way home alright, well except for being a little wet. The rains were not so heavy when they passed, which is good."

Noting that the Halfling was not yet introduced to the Witterwils, she added, this time in Polyglot, "Our Halfling companion was at Fort Breakthrough. He is called Muhdzuzi and does not speak the Common tongue, only his native tongue and Polyglot. We have some news to share with you; however I do not know how long we shall remain here on the farm with you."

Nooria looked to the two human males to hear their answer.

Reverting easily to the Polyglot tongue, Henry continued, "Even if you only mean ta stay a short time, let's get out of the rain so we can talk," Henry nodded and gestured for them to enter through the gate and come into the house. "I made an apple pie earlier. It should be right for eatin' now. Please do come inside," added Drusila in Polyglot before heading inside the house.

He gives her a quick glance.

"My apologies; you are a priestess and garbed for combat. Surely it is wise to take upon gear to defend yourself in battle in the wild, yet I supposed - in error, it seems - that you were used to the ways of battle and combat simply by your weapons and skill. I meant no offense."

"As for the destruction of the southern fort? This is something that must be dealt with, yes... Yet I am not used to these southern climes; in my homeland snow and sleet were the conditions I endured... Even so; I have spent time before the mast and I know what rain and wind can do to even sturdy structures."

"I fear that the weather may be more dangerous to the town than even a military threat..." he adds a with frown at he darkening sky.

"These folk succored us when we journeyed south. We must share with them the news of the fort as well as the threat so they can better defend themselves; further, I deem that it is our duty to aid them in preparing their home for threats, if possible."

He turns to the others.

"I and my friend shall first tend to the horse and meet you inside in a moment; there is indeed much to discuss," he adds.

Once Thorongil and the Halfling tend to the horse and cart, they'll make a cursory examination of the barn to see to it that it is safe against the storm. Then they'll join the others inside.

Thorongil just as FYI, Nooria and the Witterwils were speaking in Polyglot (mentioned in the narrative) so the Halfling would have understood their words/invitation. I don't mind the courtesy of translating, but it can understand both Halfling and Polyglot (you were all speaking the latter to Muhdzuzi back at the fort). Plus, you haven't levelled yet in game (that comes when you return to Pridon's Hearth) and so you wouldn't have been speaking Halfling (it's the language you picked up on level 2). :)

Didn't understand the delay on leveling; in which case many of my bonuses and abilities will likely be off, then; at least until we get back to Pridon's Hearth.

In any case, speaking Halfling was only done to help make sure that the Halfling felt more comfortable; I felt speaking his native language might put him more at ease was all...

Once the horses and other things are tended to Thorongil will return to the house and see how things are going inside.

Not sure how long this would take; or how comfortable Muhdzuzi is with all of this...

Letswalo replies to Thorongil and Nooria:

"We absolutely should warn the Witterwil's. They showed myself, Thorongil, and our former companions great hospitality. The least we can aid them with is a solid warning. And steel, should a threat have come sooner."

After a quiet spell on the journey, Letswalo nods.

"We go in and warn them. I will not refuse food if they offer it. Or shelter from the rain."

On seeing the Witterwil's, he smiles slightly.

"I would enter, we have much to discuss!"

Once his work is done in the fields with the Halfling and the beasts secure and safe, he enters the house and greats the family.

"The animals and wagon are now secure in the barn and we thank you again for your gracious hospitality," he says with a polite bow.

He glances at Nooria and Letswalo, then the Witterwils.

"I am happy to share any and every detail we have learned; though I do not wish to repeat those things already discussed," he says hesitating a bit.

He looks around and pauses as if thinking.

"Perhaps it would be best if this discussion was had without young ears?" he asks, clearly willing to talk but not entirely comfortable about talking about certain details in front of the children, if they are still around...

When the adults have some privacy he then launches in to a full account regarding what happened; including the damage done to the gates of the fort - which he feels synonymous with some of the damage that the Witterwil farm may have endured via the great dinosaur-like creatures who might have attacked their farm earlier.

He also notes that the gripili was allowed to escaped; not only to warn them that it may be prowling north near to their farm, but also because he feels it is his duty to take responsibility for any negative issues which may regrettably arise due to his earlier mercy.

He further goes in to detail regarding the efforts of the lizard-folk to place blame on the Halflings and highlights the proof that demonstrates that it was not the Halflings but the lizard folk who were indeed responsible.

He then pauses a moment to hear if Nooria and Letswalo have further details to offer before continuing.

Thorongil with the pensive Halfling, Muhdzuzi, moved the small wagon and laden pack mule up to the large, red barn. The Witterwils had secured all their animals in the barn - they were housed in the dry interior, with hay, grain and water for the animals' comfort. Thorongil found a quiet stall for the mule and settled the creature there with some grass hay and a bucket of water. The laden cart was placed away from the general animals so they would not disturb its contents and its contents would not disturb them. Thorongil, did not want to upset Muhdzuzi, so he discreetly surveyed the wrapped body of the Abadaran acolyte, Quinn Vanicus. Returning her body to the town temple was the express request of the aged head cleric, Baldra Sifreth.

Thorongil climbed up into the hayloft and keenly examined the roof for signs of weakness or holes which would let in the rain. The roof was intact - Henry Witterwil seemed to have repaired any past damage in a competent manner. Descending the ladder, Thorongil called Muhdzuzi and they left the barn - Thorongil first stopping to ensure the latch was securely closed against the growing wind and storm.

Upon reaching the wrap-around porch, they shook the rain off and Thorongil wiping his boots, walked into the farmhouse and made his way to the others; Muhdzuzi taking a seat on one of the dining chairs nearest the front door.

Before sharing his news, Thorongil asked that the children be sent to their room while the adults talked and Drusila had a quiet word to Alice and the girl took Aedan by the hand and led him to their bedchamber, closing the door behind her.

Explaining the devastation that had befallen Fort Breakthrough, Henry listened quietly, occasionally nodding at the certain details. Drusila gasped and shook her head in disbelief at the fate of the militia.

Letswalo watched the elder Witterwils' reaction to the news and it was plain enough to see that they believed the party's account of what had befallen the fort and were duly concerned. Their reaction spoke of sheer surprise that so many solders could be killed and the region left without proper defence.

Henry was the first one to speak of the Witterwil pair. "No Grippli's been through here, or we'd know it. The Song'o have never given us trouble - they tend to stick to their own kind and we mind our business in turn. I don't believe they would kill the soldiers at the fort. I haven't seen the lizardfolk you speak of; yet as you know we've had some troubles at night on the farm - strange sounds, unsettled and taken animals. I've seen some strange footprints in the mud - shaped like a reptile - it may these lizardfolk comin' onto our land and stealin' animals we've left out in the pasture. We secure the animals in the barn at night, now. Mayhap I need to be lockin' the barn door at night, too." He rubbed his bristled chin thoughtfully. Drusila whispered to her husband, "We need to be more vigilant. We must protect the children," Henry looked up at his wife and gave a decisive nod.

Henry looked at his visitors, "With the militia gone, Pridon's Hearth may be in some trouble. You mentioned they'd received no word in a fortnight, so they have no idea what has befallen the soldiers. It may be best to take some food and catch yer breath and then head straight back to town. Best warn the town elders, so the Sheriff will know what to do. Don't tell any of the folk in town straight away or you'll panic them and that'll make Adaela's job even harder. We'll do what we can here on the farmstead - we'll keep an eye out for those cunnin' lizard creatures."

Drusila moved to the kitchen bench and cut up the apple pie and placed a slice for each person on small wooden plates. She handed them out to the folk in the sitting room and then brought out pots of hot coffee and tea and settled them down on the table with some mugs, silverware, a jar of golden honey and small jug of fresh milk.

After a moment he seats himself and takes a cup of tea and sips it thoughtfully.

Letswalo nods.

Even the meanest, filthiest hovel in Kalabuto often had someone willing to fight and die for it. Or flee from it when danger loomed too great., Letswalo thinks but keeps to himself.

"Aye, that makes sense. I wish you good luck in defending yourselves if it comes to that. Thorongil, Nooria, I suggest that we take the Witterwil's advice and make up time on the road promptly. A good day to ye and thank you again for your hospitality."

Letswalo begins to prepare to leave.

"We shall indeed be off , then, but we cannot resist your hospitality quite yet," he says, clearly prepared to leave, but also not wishing to simply rush off.

Nooria politely interjected when a lull in the conversation presented itself,

"Sheriff Adaela was rallying what deputies she could enlist when she sent me to find you and bid Eira and Oliya to return immediately to town. She is a clever woman, from what I can tell, and she may have surmised that something foul has befallen the fort and the soldiers within. If we can return promptly, then the sheriff will have three more deputies at her service."

Thorongil turns at her and nods.

"This is a good idea; but it is wise to speak with her directly, I deem. The town may not take kindly to our new friend, but their animosity may be stirred up overmuch if they find that their outpost has been sacked," he adds, suddenly thinking of the drunk he disarmed when he had arrived.

"Once we have the chance to speak with her then it is right to aid her as we can; yet are we not first bound to aid our friend on the return to his home?"

He frowns, not sure what duty must prevail in these circumstances and sighs.

"In any case, once we reach the town then yes - you are right that we should speak to the sheriff, yet we must take pains so as not to upset the citizens and instead take her lead on how to interact with them."

Thorongil will finish his meal but will not prepare to leave until Nooria is also done eating, too. Once they are all done eating he shall stand, bow, and then leave to get on the road.

After bidding the Witterwils' farewell and good luck, the group collected their small wagon and mule and set off down the muddy road, toward Pridon's Hearth.

Little conversation was to be had as the party concentrated on the wet road and misty surroundings - ensuring the wagon did not get stuck in a wet pothole or the mule didn't spook from the occasional lightning strike or loud *boom* of thunder. The rain continued steadily, soaking the only travellers on the road. In the distant marshland and small patches of jungle, the party could make out the shapes of various, wandering animals desperately seeking shelter from the coming storm. They did not near the road and the party continued with no attacks.

Entering through the gates of the colony, many hours had passed since their departure and they could see stalls being brought down for the rain was filling the canvas roofs and wetting their goods. Folk were rushing about - trying to get home or somewhere dry and out of the rain.

The group, including the still sullen Muhdzuzi, continued down the main road to their lodgings at Stone Hall. The wagon and mule were securely housed in the hall's stable - the wrapped body of the late Quinn Vanicus was placed in an empty stall away from the animals; covered by an old blanket, and, the mule was brushed down and given grass hay and water in its private stall. Satisfied, the party took what possessions they required from the wagon and made their way to the tavern/inn.

What would you like to do now?

Thorongil watches the men around the town with a tense look.

He is not used to these southern climes but he had experienced heavy storms on the seas and knew enough that strong winds and rains could be dangerous to wooden buildings.

Once their beasts and baggage are dealt with he turns to Letswalo.

"We must go at once to find the sheriff at this time so that we can first share the details with the fort. Once that is done then we must do what we can to help these people; I have seen the storms near to The Shackles and such things can be devastating."

Despite the deluge it seems that Thorongil is unaffected, or at least untroubled, by the heavy rains, despite his rain-soaked garb.

"We have useful items that could aid this town; yet there are many things that any man can do to help in securing windows or planks for added protection," he adds.

So his first plan is to find the sheriff as soon as possible to warn her at once. It seems illogical that any strong military threat would come up north through the forest during a rainstorm, but he is more worried about helping people than being logical at this time.

He also wishes to make sure she is comfortable around the Halfling and offer her help wherever she needs it.

Stopping by the stable door, Nooria listened to her two companions as they made their plans. Looking for signs of the stablehand or other locals and finding none, she lowered her voice for discretion sake and spoke to them,

"I have no carpentry skill and will only be a nuisance. While you speak with the Sheriff and inform her of the fort's demise, I'll take Quinn's body to the Abadaran temple. The priestess has been without burial rites for a week at least and I must return her body and help the priestesses lay her to rest. Then I will provide my services as healer to any injured in this storm. I can also gather as many townspeople as I can and bring them to a safe place - perhaps the temple for the countinghouse is sturdily built. Thorongil, I noticed there is a healer's kit among the items on the wagon. May I take it to use on the injured? I have my own, however an extra kit would not go astray, especially if this storm worsens. Magic can only stretch so far and then we must rely on skill. We can meet up at some point, if you'd like. Perhaps I will run into Eira and Oliya; although I'm not sure what task the Sheriff has set them to."

As she waited for the men to answer, Nooria spied a wooden hand cart in the corner of the stable; large enough to place Quinn's body into and cover it and wheel her up the road to the temple.

"I do not wish to have the mule spooked in the storm, for that is trouble I'd rather avoid, so I will take that hand cart to move Quinn's body. I will cover it and make my way steadily up to the temple. I promise to be careful, but for now we must split up and do what needs to be done. I trust that you will inform the Sheriff of all that you've seen. Muhdzuzi must present himself to Adaela; I agree. I believe she will want to question him herself."

If you agree to split up, Thorongil, Letswalo and Muhdzuzi can make their way to the Sheriff's office to speak with Adaela Praet. You may want to take any evidence of the lizardfolk you found/collected from the fort to show the sheriff to corroborate your story or the Halfling's. Nooria will take Quinn Vanicus' body to the Countinghouse of Abadar and help Elder Priestess Baldra Siferth with the wounded and gathering the townsfolk to safe places. You may make plans to meet up at some point.

Thorongil nods his head at Nooria.

"This is a worthwhile plan," he responds.

"We shall indeed go visit the sheriff directly and learn what plans she has."

"Further, we shall do all we can to demonstrate the facts regarding the crime," he adds.

"We have the remains of the body, I believe, as well as the tools we took from the dead. That should be enough, I believe..."

"As for the colony take all the gear that is necessary to aid them; if you discover there are further tools we have do not hesitate to find us and we shall offer them."

"For now we must hurry for the weather is not improving and we have much to do."

Thorongil will happily split up if it means being able to help multiple people at once and anything he can do to prove the innocence of the Halflings to the sheriff.

Thorongil and Letswalo picked up the wrapped body of the acolyte and placed her gently in the hand cart, covering her over with an old blanket; not yet threadbare, so as to not draw the attention of any general passerby as Nooria made her way back up the main road to the countinghouse.

Nooria collected the healer's kit from the wagon and placed it inside her pack. Lifting the hood of her travelling cloak up over her head, she bid the men, "Good luck" and grasping the wooden handles, lifted the cart and made her way out of the stables and back onto the road and began to slowly make her way through the busy street.

The rain was coming down harder than before. The men watched her a moment to ensure there was no mishap and as they turned to leave the stable yard and find the Sheriff, one of her deputies, the shorter, stouter one named Iavo Crus, came rushing into the stables, slightly out of breath.

"There you are. The sheriff's sent me to find you. The weather's changed for the worse. A powerful storm front has broken away from the larger mass offshore and is barellin' toward the town. It'll hit us in a few hours; possibly sooner. The Sheriff's been coordinating with the folk in town and has set up temporary headquarters in Stone Hall. It'll also be the place where the locals can find shelter for its built strong. She's worried that the usually high storm tides will reach the lowest streets of Island Town and those folk there and by the docks will need to be evacuated to higher ground. There's much to be done and we've no time to waste. Come along," and with that Deputy Iavo turned and made toward the back door of Stone Hall, briskly waving you forward.

Entering Stone Hall, you notice to the far side of the great fireplace, Adaela has set up her makeshift command station - tables, maps, a number of elder town councillors arguing amongst one another and Sheriff Adaela attempting to calm them and direct their attention. The tavern/inn is busier than usual, with people sitting or milling about; in deep conversation or fretting/arguing. The Halflings who run Stone Hall are attempting to keep people calm and scrambling about serving food and drink.

Casting her eyes up from the paperwork on the table, Adaela glanced toward the rear door and noted the return of deputy and her male agents. Taking a breath, she lifted her hand and gestured you to her.

Thorongil quickly translates for their friend.

He turns to Adaela.

"We have taken the fallen back for rites at your town. The halfling with us is willing to aid the town in this time of crises, but we are pledged to return with him to his own people to aid them even as he attempts to aid us now," he says with a proud, though courteous, tone.

"Our earlier companions may have arrived in the town before us; they can corroborate our story if you require further evidence."

He pauses and turns to speak to the Halfling and translate what was said then turns back to Adaela.

"If you are satisfied with our claim then we three shall do what we can to aid you as soon as possible," he says with a courteous bow.

Adaela focused on Letswalo, then Thorongil and nodded, "Eira and Oliya reported the death when they returned earlier. It is sad news for the town and ill news for the Council. I would hear more details, as the ladies were sent to undertake another task as soon as they entered town. As to aiding the Halflings, your promise will have to wait as your first priority is to Pridon's Hearth." The sheriff's look is not one to counter.

Looking to the sullen creature they had brought into town, Adaela switched to the Halfling tongue and proceeded, "I am Sheriff Adaela Praet. What is your name and tell me in your own words what happened at Fort Breakthrough. If you lie to me, it won't bode well for you or your tribe. Please begin."

The sheriff stared at the Halfling with unflinching golden green-flecked eyes, waiting for him to answer.

The previously sullen Halfling suddenly looked tense and anxious under the scrutiny of the human leader. Pointing to his chest he replied in his native tongue, "I am called Muhdzuzi. I am from Cahshil tribe. Song'o did not kill human soldiers. The lizardfolk killed them and Song'o hunting party," and then proceeded to explain what had happened and how he'd seen it with his own eyes before running away to hide so he, too, wouldn't be killed or captured.

Adaela watched and listened silently. Then in colder voice, still speaking in Halfling, she added, "This sounds like a wild tale to conceal your guilt in the fort massacre. Lizardfolk have never travelled this far south or shown such aggression toward our people."

Picking up a parchment from the desk and casting her eyes down to read, she remained silent for a few minutes until she set the paper down and looked to the Halfling then to Thorongil and Letswalo, "It is fortunate that Eira and Oliya gave a similar account - believing the attack was not perpetrated by the Song'o, but the lizardfolk. Oliya showed me the terbutje you found at the fort and Eira gave me an account of the wounds on the bodies she examined. I am inclined to believe Muhdzuzi's story. I leave the Halfling unto your particular care, agents, and if he harms any citizen of Pridon's Hearth you will suffer the same consequences as he. Now..." she then reverted back to the Common tongue for the Halfling's tongue felt foreign and she wanted to include the congregated councillors in the conversation.

"What is important presently is the following: reinforcing weaker structures in the colony, collecting supplies in sturdy shelters, keeping the citizens calm and coordinated and lastly, evacuating Island Town. Thorongil, Letswalo and your Halfling friend, I will need you to undertake the boarding up of any glass windows, shutters or openings in buildings that rain or wind could break through. Additionally, secure any buildings that rely on canvas roofs or walls. When you are done, report back to me here at Stone Hall. You may go."

Thorongil notes her words and his gaze turns from one of genuine concern for the citizens of the town that may be in serious danger to a completely different look.

His eyes go flat and his face suddenly becomes smoothly impassive.

He says nothing at this time, however.

Thorongil watches her a moment in silence, pausing to wait for Muhdzuzi. When the Halfling follows he turns and leaves the office.

He then considers their options.

"Firstly we must coordinate the citizens to aid in this task. Our chief issue will be the problems we see on the Island Town, I warrant, given the storm is brewing from the sea and those homes shall feel the brunt of the issue."

"We must not only attend to evacuating the citizens there, but we must take some precaution to make sure that their fishing boats and skiffs and drawn up from the water line so that they are not knocked about or damaged by the rise of waters."

"If the storms wreck the bridges between the mainland and islands the boats will be essential, not to mention the other needs the provide the citizens with."

"There is already a host of valuable goods and gear in the Emporium which will be important if the town is damaged by the storm. If the owner of the shop does not have a storm cellar, or some place safe to store their gear, then they must be encouraged to move it to somewhere more secure."

"I would venture that the Counting House of Abadar is likely the most secure place in the colony to store goods. For now our chief priority should be foodstuffs, tools and medical supplies - but if the folk at the counting house will not allow us to store materials in their location we must find another place."

"As for the business of nailing down shutters and so on? I am no carpenter, though I can easily handle a hammer. Even so, I would venture that our chief issue is flooding. If we cannot board things up perhaps we can create sandbags or dig ditches near to the beaches to divert some of the flooding? That is a task anyone can achieve, though it may take some skill to determine where would be best to create such barriers for heavy storms."

At this time Thorongil moves to the citizens he finds and calls out -

"Citizens of Pridon's Hearth - there is a dangerous storm approaching and we have been asked to help you in securing your town from the dangers it may bring. We urge you all to do what you can to work together and help each other as we all do our best to ensure that the town, and all of us, are safe and secure from any threat or danger."

Diplomacy Check to inspire citizens -

He then pauses to study the town and seek out the key places that could use any work on with what knowledge he has in Engineering...

Knowledge Engineering to discover places that need to be fixed and supported -
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

He'll do what he can to climb or ascend any dangerous places to make sure that the tiles, beams and shingles are as secure as possible - knowing from his time as a sailor that a loose shingle in the force of a hard gale could fly through buildings like a missile....

Climb Check to get up on roofs and attempt to fix them -
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

At this time he will do what he can to put his skills regarding Carpentry to use, if he believes it will be something he can try after gleaning what he can from his knowledge in Engineering, pausing only to take what tools they found for Carpentry purposes.

Craft: Carpenter to Aid Letswalo
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

EDIT: Not sure how well my practical skills will be in the job, but hopefully his Diplomacy Check to motivate/inspire people to work together as a community will be the major issue, especially considering the Natural 20, but we will see.

I can't think of anything else right now, but I wanted to get something up tonight - I may be able to think of something tomorrow, if more is required.

==================

Letswalo, Thorongil and Muhdzuzi worked together; examining buildings for weaknesses and rallying the citizens they crossed paths with to aid them in reinforcing the structures within the colony and digging trenches along the foreshore. Thorongil's well spoken and genuine words were well received that he readily enlisted the services of 1d9 ⇒ 8 male citizens in the colony; who put aside their own task to help as many people as they could. Even as the rain came down upon those outside, the men enlisted by Thorongil listened and heeded every instruction uttered by the Northman.

The surfaces were slick and growing more slippery as the rain fell lightly but steadily. Letswalo's surprising knowledge of carpentry granted them an insight in how to undertake the task set out by the sheriff. Climbing proved a little difficult at times due to the slanting rain and growing wind; yet none fell or were injured and eventually managed to climb to the roofs and secure shingles and firm up canopies. The men worked for 1d3 ⇒ 2 hours; Muhdzuzi quietly and tirelessly aiding his new allies. However, the work itself and the coordination was not as seamless as it should have been and it took the men longer to finish each task they set their minds and hands to. They did the best that they could at short notice.

Once the town itself was securely boarded up, the men headed down to the docks and helped the sailors and fishermen secure their boats and skiffs and bring inside any nets, baskets, oars etc that could become airborne in the rising winds. Thorongil, Letswalo and Muhdzuzi duly noted the stronger, whipping winds down by the water's edge and the very dark, ominous clouds to the west. They grew more determined that all of Pridon's Hearth would weather the squall.

Thorongil, Letswalo and Muhdzuzi then moved along Little Tiger docks to Oyin Emporium and noted elderly Mirya Oyin attempting to secure the warehouse doors with a solid piece of wood, so they would not be pushed open by the winds and the interior and whatever contents remained inside not be destroyed by the storm. She turned and shielding her eyes noted your movement toward her. "I am headed to Stone Hall" she announced over the wind. You see a small cart filled with tied sacks holding various, smaller valuables/goods. "The larger items cannot be moved over the bridges for they are too heavy. I have secured what I can with ropes, crates and wood. There is nothing more to be done." Her eyes rested on the unfamiliar Halfling in your small group. "There is trouble over the bridge behind the Emporium. A group of islanders got into it and threw some punches and none can calm their tempers; or they're too afraid to. Best check on them. I'll get these strapping local boys to help me with the cart up to the hall. Good luck!" And calling two of the local men to aid her with the laden cart, Mirya Oyin moved slowly down the docks and over the bridge toward the town proper.

Alright, your party succeeded in boarding up the town and securing the docks and emporium. Mirya is on her way to safety. There's the locals on the next island causing trouble. You still have 6 locals to aid you at this time. What would you like to do now? One of the tasks Sheriff Adaela assigned to you was 'Keeping the Peace' around town. If you decide to take this on, the following checks will be useful (and please toss up which apply for your character): Diplomacy to reason with Islanders and settle frayed tempers; Intimidate or Profession (Soldier) to cow them into working together and helping you and each other; Perform to entertain people and relieve stress and Sense Motive to determine moods and assign the islanders tasks to keep them occupied. You may also attempt Charisma or Intelligence checks to swiftly charm, manipulate or motivate the locals/islanders. Good luck!

===

It's now 9pm. It's darker around Island Town as you're closer to the storm... yet there is still a little light with which to see. There are covered, hooded lanterns swinging along the docks; blinking in and out as the wind rocks/presses against the hanging lanterns. The docks and bridges are slick with rain. The winds are stronger by the water.

Just to clarify where the scuffle is located, as it's not inside the Emporium itself:

"Many thanks, Lady Oyin," Thorongil nods to the woman and then rushes off with the lads toward where the trouble is.

Charging up he can see the brawl and his fingers instinctively reach for his sword as he studies the men, though he does not draw it.

Sense Motive to gauge the crowd to determine best style to speak via Diplomacy -
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

I don't really know if my check will result in anything; but that won't stop Thorongil from attempting to pacify them with a speech.

Thorongil rushes forward between the men who seem to be ready to expand their brawl into something far worse...

"Stay this madness!" he calls out as he leaps between them.

Then, his fierce grey eyes sweeping the crowd around him he adresses them in a loud, commanding voice that is, nevertheless, layered with sincerity and the desire to inspire unity rather than division.

"Men of Sargava - men of Pridon's Hearth - my brothers!"

"Put aside your rage - put aside your anger and fear for the rising storm which comes."

He glances toward the west where the winds are thrashing toward the town and knows the violence of a storm but turns his eyes back toward the men.

"I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A fear for the storm and the rising darkness..." he looks between the townsfolk who were ready to strike at each other and his keen gaze seeks to motivate them to harmony.

"A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship - but it is not this day!"

"A day of rising waves and shattered walls may come when our very homes come crashing down - but - it is not this day!

"No!"

"On this day we fight - not against each other, but as one!"

"Aye, by all that you hold dear on this good Golarion - I bid you all to stand together as one to save our lives - our families - and everything that we have built here!"

He raises his arm high into the dark air and hopes that his energy has implored the citizens to stop fighting each other and work together...

Diplomacy (hopefully modified via good Sense Motive - also, here's hoping that the speech was good, too)

The sturdy wooden bridge lightly swayed with the force of the wind as you crossed it to reach the island on the other side. You managed by the light of the hooded lanterns placed along the length of the bridge.

Witnessing the source of the commotion, Letswalo readily gauged the tension in the air as he approached the quarrelling Islanders. He knew if your party did not step in now that more blood would be shed soon enough, amid the growing rain and wind.

He moved in among them and attempted to calm tempers with an easy manner and charm, and although he was not seen as a threat, his charm only worked its power on those men who were mere observers and vocal bystanders to the brawl. The more stubborn and angry Islanders ignored his casual congeniality and did not threaten him.

When Thorongil stepped in and spoke with raised voice filled with passion and conviction, the general observers vocalised their support and accord immediately. The more stubborn and hot tempered males looked upon the tall Northman and took their time measuring his integrity and honour. The smaller combatants, with cuts and bruises to face and hands began to thaw - their tempers ebbing until they stood silently; eyes on Thorongil. The biggest man of the lot - standing over six and half feet tall with arms as thick as trunks scowled at first; the blood from his deep cut eye flowing down his face with the rain. His knuckles were bruised raw and were bleeding, too. As lightning crisscrossed the sky, the glint of ire in the man's blue eyes changed to cool compliance.

"Aye, Northman. You and yer Mwangi chum have a way with words, to be sure. No more fightin'. We'll return to our families and help any Islander who seeks it. Ye take care of your business with "the walled-in". Come lads..." An assortment of grunts could be heard above the howl of the wind and then the islanders moved down the muddy road toward their respective houses.

Muhdzuzi did not understand the Human words, yet could see they had the desired effect. In Halfling he uttered, wiping the rain from his eyes, "Good to be strong leader and tribe listen."

Alrighty. Good work - you have calmed the Islanders' tempers (and kept the peace) and they will go back and start prepping and helping each other with the coming storm. Your next assigned task is to move supplies. You will need to collect food, water and emergency/medical supplies and secure them in Stone Hall and the Countinghouse of Abadar (for both buildings are the sturdiest in town, with means to secure and ration such things). Once you return to Pridon's Hearth proper via the bridges, you can attempt this task. I'll need narratives of what you mean to do and the following checks to determine the success of your effort/venture: Appraise or Profession (Merchant) to determine the most useful medical supplies and foodstuffs, Handle Animal or Profession (Driver, Farmer or Stablehand) to coerce the town's few beasts of burden to haul goods, and Ride checks to better navigate the hazards created by the wind and rain. If you decide to haul the goods yourself, I'll need you to roll Constitution or Dexterity checks to see how well you can rely on your endurance or speed over practical skill. Thanks and Good Luck!

I have none of these skills, but I'll do my best...

Thorongil heads quickly to the Emporiom and does what he can to study the nuances of the goods and gear there, attempting to learn what are the best supplies that can be used for the town that remain.

Appraise - untrained
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

While he is no skilled driver, and is not truly skilled with how to deal with beast, he does his best; but a sudden thought occurs to him given the wind-swept and muddy terrain of the streets.

He finds two of the local pack animals and encourages the citizens in the town to lend it to him to help transship the supplies and when it is loaded he casts Nature's Paths: For the purpose of determining overland speed, the target treats any trackless terrain as though there were a trail or road, and any terrain with a road or trail as though there were a highway. Up to one creature per caster level traveling with the target can also benefit from the effect. Thorongil casts it on the pack beast he is riding as "The Target" and the second Target is the beast that Letswalo is riding on with Muhdzuzi sitting with one of them.

This should allow Thorongil and Letswalo's horses to treat the roads in the town as if they were 'highway' which should (hopefully) give them some speed in the rough weather.

Untrained Profession: Driver Check - and hoping that Nature's Paths grants some kind of bonus, too
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Finally, as he moves quickly through the town as fast as possible with the gear he managed to pick up with the Appraise Check (if at all) he tries his Untrained Ride check -
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

EDIT: He continues to work as long as possible, and he'll do what he can on foot as well (if possible); or at least be as nimble as possible while loading/unloading goods

Thorongil: On the Nature's Path spell, this won't apply in this scenario as you're not in the wilderness, but in a colonised town with basic streets already in place. So, you still have that spell and have not expended it at this time. And, you already have a pack mule in your party as Eira had hired one for 3 days and you've left it in the stables at Stone Hall. You may use that animal and also been able to convince a local to give you use of another. Also, the Emporium is locked and boarded up by proprietor, Mirya Oyin. She has taken what food stuffs and other goods/valuables she believed important and has taken them up to Stone Hall already. Unless you're wanting to break into the Emporium and search for more stuff to collect? On the map, you'll see a warehouse labelled 3 on the Little Tiger Docks, you may try searching there first.

======

Nooria, with cloak pulled up over her head against the rain and wind, found her way to your party to provide what help she could. Over the sound of the elements, she called to her male companions, "For now the healing is being managed by the other priestesses, so I will lend my services to you as best as I am able."

Your party has secured the use of another pack mule in addition to the mule you used for the expedition to the fort. Nooria has told you of Count Narsus' warehouses on the dock and you make your way there, managing to spur on, and keep calm, the mules even amid the growing storm. The Holdinghouses of Count Narsus are a block from Oyin's Emporium on the docks, so you do not have to travel far. You see the warehouse handler/head clerk, Cyrus Dest, ready to close the doors when you arrive. Thorongil and Letswalo manage to talk him into keeping the doors open for a little while longer and looking through the various pens and crates to collect what non-perishable, essential goods, items and medical supplies that they can. You decide to leave it to the Sheriff to mollify any backlash you may incur from the Count in taking the supplies without his express permission from the Holdinghouses.

Botting Letswalo's Diplomacy, to aid: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Thorongil and Letswalo work with untrained eyes to determine what are the most useful medical supplies and assist Nooria's more keen and trained eye. Together they manage to find 1d50 ⇒ 19 healing potions and kits.

In the other pens they discovered crates filled with small sacks of grain, flour, sugar and salt. There is also a crate filled with smoked fish just newly stored in the warehouse that morning and a crate with salted pork. (1d30 ⇒ 28 sacks all up.) The warehouse clerk, Cyrus, provides you with sealed/waterproof leather sacks to house the food stuffs so the rain will not spoil them as you transport them up to Stone Hall and the Countinghouse of Abadar.

Muhdzuzi, being new and disoriented in town, does what he can being unfamiliar with placating beasts of burden or selecting the best remedies. His time out in the storm and the long journey back from the fort have depleted the Halfling and he appears to be lacking in both endurance and speed. Neither are a problem for Thorongil, Letswalo and Nooria, who continue on swiftly and steadily; pushing/motivating the Halfling onward.

The party pulled the mules over the little rocking bridge and up into the town proper: first delivering supplies to Stone Hall and then to the Countinghouse of Abadar.

As the party neared the Countinghouse, they noticed a few, recently demolished homes along the path and a commotion by the town bakery.

Nearing the bakery, you note a number of dead or seriously wounded civilian town guards laying on the ground. Then you hear the sound of breaking wood and general cries from running citizens.

Through the dark and rain, with the aid of hooded lanterns along the road/s, you spy what appears to be a very tall creature with rough, green hide. Its hands end in claws, and its bestial face has a hideous, tusked underbite. It carries a full bag over its shoulder and wields a large club in its hand.

Knowledge Nature/Local DC 15:

It's a female troll! Trolls possess incredibly sharp claws and amazing regenerative powers, allowing them to recover from nearly any wound. They are astonishingly strong—combined with their claws, their strength allows them to literally tear apart flesh to feed their voracious appetites. A troll’s appetite and its regenerative powers make it a fearless combatant, ever prepared to charge headlong at the nearest living creature and attack with all of its fury. Only fire seems to cause a troll to hesitate, but even this mortal threat is not enough to stop a troll’s advance.

Round 1: Letswalo is up and then the troll!

Letswalo will move up a Five Foot Step and draw a flask of Acid and throw it at the troll at F:5.

This puts the square at 20 feet, so he's at a -2 to hit via Range Increment; but as Acid is a Splash weapon he should only need to make a Touch Attack so I'm hoping he can do it...

Attack at Troll with Acid Splash -
1d20 + 4 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 - 2 = 12

IF it hits Troll -
1d6 ⇒ 4

Should also do 1 Point of damage to troll as it's a large sized creature on squares F:4 as well as G:4 and G:5 for an additional 3 points of damage as it's a Splash Weapon and covers the squares surrounding the target - if it hits the troll's Touch Defense, that is...

EDIT: If that hits a Touch Attack of 12 then the troll should suffer an additional 7 points of Acid Damage, I believe).

Again, not sure but clarifying - I believe the troll has now taken 12 regular and (hopefully) 13 Fire/Acid damage for a net of 25 points of damage? Not sure, but I guess we'll find out soon...

Thorongil, a creature within the splash takes damage once regardless of how many squares it occupies. If there were creatures surrounding it, within 5 ft of the splash (we're talking about splash area) then they would take splash damage once as well. So, the troll would not incur additional splash damage.

Secondly, I'm confused by your attack modifiers. A Medium creature attacking a large creature doesn't get a +1 to attack. Looking at Letswalo's stats, he has a +2 to DEX and +1 to BAB (as 2nd level spy) so he has a +3 to hit via ranged weapons, not a +4. I understand the -2 penalty for range increment.

Therefore, by my calculations, the acid attack is 9+3-2=10
and damage, if hits is 4.

This attack fails versus the troll's touch AC.

That's the end of the PCs' actions this round and I'll post the troll's action in Round 1 in my next post.

I think what must have happened is that when I read Letswalo's sheet I saw he had a 14 for Dexterity and misread it as a +4.

Accidents like this are bound to happen, unfortunately; not only did Letswalos' sheet not have any modifiers beyond Level 1, but it's unfortunately easy to make mistakes as things are currently via my stupid Concussion Thing.

To be honest, the whole "texting" thing is a real pain; it makes it super hard for me to work with or understand things clearly and it's why I've reverted to using Voice chat with my friends to make sure I don't keep making stupid mistakes.

Anyway, the Acid splash was a waste, which is really too bad as it's one of the only things that does permanent damage to the troll (other than fire). Oh well; bad luck.

People can misread things generally, so no worries. As to it being a waste, no, I don't believe it is. You attempted something and it didn't pan out this time due to the dice roll. It happens. Next time, it may be successful.
