But as with all things, going to an extreme can have a negative result. such as positive energy, if you get to much of it you will just pop. So there must be a balance of things for the most amount of people to be fruitful.
no really look it up, you will die from healing on a positive energy plane. It is really funny.

Brevyre Silverkin |

I love that rule so much
GM: you arrive in the plane of positive energy
Players: Phwew
GM: You heal so much that you explode in a burst of energy
"Justice is far from evil, in it's essence it is bringing judgement on those who have done wrong, and as long as that is what happens, it can never be evil."

Dr. Masuta "The Doc" Hakase |

"Justice, love, vengeance. They are all useless emotions. Nothing but logical examination and execution is needed for any situation." The Doc says with a very stern and emotionless face.
@Brevyre The Chymist is the plan.
I have decided to make the character very much like a Vulcan from Star Trek when he is not in his mutagen form. Once he takes the Chymist PrC his psyche will have broken and his mutagen form will be his Mr. Hyde.

Digger Chandler |

"Of course justice is not evil ...because it includes love. I know that neither arithmetic nor metaphor were your strong points when we were growing up, but my point is justice is good because it is tempered by love, whereas vengeance is not. And this is a WHOLE lot of protesting about a little affectionate spelunking. And Doc, you might need to get laid even worse than Brev!"

Digger Chandler |

Digger laughs and toasts his friends. "So," he turns to the older fellow, "welcome to town. I've noticed you around, militia, keeping us safe, that bit. This silver fox here is Brevyre Silverkin, soon to be called Stonelayer. My fellow intellectual with half the charm is Doc, the one you'd rather be talking to is Tess, and I'm Digger. I must say, you do look familiar."

An old goat walks in, on it's hind legs, smoking a cigar and stroking it's scraggly beard.
I'll just mosey on in, check the status of my recruitment thread - hopefully some new people have wandered in!
The disheveled old goat looks around, cigar dropping from its mouth. His eyes turn a deep red, burning like coals.
This is not the place to roleplay, prospective victims, I mean, players!! The goat stops for a moment, taking a deep breath. Look, I need you guys to move this discussion elsewhere. I love the enthusiasm, but I need this thread to lure in new marks. I've opened up a discussion thread, HERE please continue any roleplaying there, so I can focus on recruiting here. Thanks!
With that, the goat spies a clothesline (with freshly pinned laundry on it!) and begins to drool. You guys didn't see nothin'! he says, sidling over to the line and pulling down some choice looking pairs of underwear.
Thanks for moving any roleplaying over to the discussion thread, folks! :-)

Okay. So instead of a giant-slayer, I have come up with Erynion Orvir, Seeker of Curiosities. He's an Elven Archivist Bard. I'll be working on backstory and equipment and combat-related things over the next few days, but for now I've got the basic stats here and a brief overview as follows:
Erynion tends to draw eyes when he enters a room. He is taller than most of the folk he's been known to associate with this century, and he's fairly handsome by any estimation with long silvery-white locks tied loosely back with a ribbon and facial features that border on delicate. His skin is a slightly dusky hue, not uncommon among the Varisians but middlingly strange on an elf. What tends to draw the most attention, however, is his motley attire. What may have begun as a set of simple dark robes has been courted by foppish Taldan finery, danced with a multitude of Varisian baubles, and even assaulted by a distinctly Ulfen wolf pelt thrown over one shoulder, all accumulated fairly as Erynion sought to experience their cultures. A strange mask, known to a few as coming from the Mordant Spire, dangles loosely on his other shoulder. Carried always in one hand or the crook of his arm is a large parasol with which to protect his overly sensitive eyes from the harsh noonday sun, and slung on his back is a satchel filled with curiosities, wonders, and books. Histories, manuals, journals, and legends have all passed into and out of that satchel, read and re-read as Erynion has journeyed throughout the Inner Sea region.

Thanks for the character submission, zefig! So, here's where we stand on potential characters so far:
- Digger Chandler: human male Rogue
- Tessara: elf female Witch
- Thandion: elf male Magus
- Adrien Duran Mandreiv: aasimar male Fighter
- Brevyre Silverkin: human male Cleric
- Scoria the Stalwart - oread female Monk

Keep the submissions coming, deadline is this friday, August 10th. Feel free to join in the preliminary role-play going on in the discussion thread; I was going to ask some formalized questions of the characters, but I think the free-form roleplaying gives me a better view of the character, as well as your writing style. So don't be shy, join in!

Azrael Dukshi |

It's always a good idea to present a good balance the DM can choose from. Which is why I'll just point out the small amount of female character submissions and the lack of halflings, gnomes or dwarves. That, and no traditional arcane spellcasters (wizards and sorcerers). For future submissions, think about these classes.

Sir Jolt |

I confess I've never submitted a female character as I've never felt the desire to play one; though I do see more female characters online than I ever have around a table. Out of the core races Elves do seem to be the most popular followed by Orcs & Dwarves (with Scottish accent usually) and Halflings and Gnomes do seem to bring up the rear. I see more Halflings and Gnomes at table games than I do online; not sure why that is.

DM_MadGoat |

@ everyone - please just concern yourself with creating and submitting characters you'd have fun playing, regardless of race, gender, party role, etc. Azrael's point is well-made, and important, but most important to me is that you submit a character that you'll feel comfortable playing through this module and, hopefully, beyond.
Thanks to all who have submitted characters so far, and please, to anyone reading, continue to send them in, all are welcome :-)

DM_MadGoat |

Thanks for the submission, Sir Jolt!

Sorry Azrael I don't mean offence and say this only as a fairly experienced role player.
I totally agree with Azrael advice in that it seems on these boards a balanced party is looked for so filling an empty whole is a good way to be picked. However I have to say alot of the most enjoyable games I've played have had totally unbalanced party, eg a party that was all sorcerers and wizards.
On the topic and female characters, unless you are trying to challange yourself or have a concept that just doesn't work otherwise please stick to your own gender, I've seen far too many males playing female character that I find offensive and I'm male, I suspect they are worse from a female point of view.

DM_MadGoat |

Good morning all!
No new submissions last night, so the list remains as per my previous post. I'd encourage all players to roleplay in the discussion thread; it's fun, and gives me a chance to see your character roleplayed in a social setting, as well as your writing style.
Just as an aside - Rise of the Runelords is an AP which really does favour a lot of combat. When thinking about your characters, consider how they will fare in the dark corners of Golarion, against foes with whom one cannot reason, and who will not offer quarter.
Thanks to all for your submissions, deadline is friday, August 10th!

DM_MadGoat |

Good morning all!
No new submissions last night - I guess they're drying up, and this recruitment thread has been open for a bit. I did make promises to a couple of people that I wouldn't close recruitment till friday though, so until then, we're still accepting submissions. So, to anyone reading who is interested - go ahead and send em in!
@ Annalya - still looking forward to seeing those stats!
To all - I'll be around if you have any questions or concerns. The discussion thread is open to all applicants, go on in and have a drink and a chat with your prospective fellow adventurers!

DM_MadGoat |

As an additional note to all, here is an example of the lavish, extremely detailed combat maps we'll be using:
I've used them in the past, as have several other GM's I know. Using the spreadsheet to create a grid makes online combat a snap. I usually reserve editing capabilities for myself (moving your characters around on the map based upon your actions) though as time goes on I may allow editing from the players as well.
Every character and item will have a descriptive tag for identification. In actual combat, we'll add your most vital combat stats to your tag in order to simplify things. For enemies, I usually don't reveal their specific stats, though I will give you a general idea of their health (note that Pratus, the Samurai, has already given Ogre A a bit of a slashing).
For initiative, unless time is pressing and things have bogged down, I'll ask each of you to roll your own. Monsters of a similar type all use the same roll. At the beginning of each round I'll present the order that everyone will go. Here's the initiative for the current scenario:
Pratus (LG hm Sam5) - 18
Katriona (N hf Rg5) - 17
Obar (LG dm Ftr5) - 14
Ogres A, B, C - 12
Aidan (LN hm Clr[Helm]5) - 11
Jastara (NG hef Rgr5) - 7
Aramil (N em Wiz[Cnj]5) - 5
What I typically like is for characters, when describing their actions at the beginning of a round, is also to roll their to hit and damage dice. Having those #s available moves things along quicker and helps keep the pace up.
We'll run a sample combat once the party is chosen, just to give it a try and work out any kinks :-) Questions or concerns? Please let me know!

Thorjar Falconclaw |

I'm happy with Thorjar as is. He's mainly a ranged combatant who can melee if needed. He's only medium BAB with a light strength bonus but he has a good AC, his judgements, and uses a reach weapon. If selected, his spell use would depend on who else is in the party. If the group is already ranged strong then he'll use spells more often and even melee more relying on his AC and reach to keep foes tangled up. Since the group is looking like it might be arcane light (despite the amazing talents of Tessara ;) ) I might focus more on spell use. Of course, everything depends on the situations the AP, which I'm not familiar with, throws at us.

Thorjar Falconclaw |

Having said all that, I just realized that I bought equipment with average starting gold and not max. Making the adjustment's now (though all I really did was up his armor). I did switch out Profession (Architect) for Craft (Bows) even though the bonus is less as, I think, it fits his background and upbringing better.

DM_MadGoat |

Time runs short! I'm going to call this recruitment closed as of tomorrow (August 10th) at noon my time (which is GMT -0400).
We've seen a fair number of submissions, which pleases me, but some players have put a character forward and then virtually disappeared, which doesn't really make it easy to select them for the party. So I ask: if still interested in the game, please sound off in this thread and let me know. To those who have been active in the discussion thread: thank you, and this request doesn't apply to you :-)
New applicants are still welcome, of course!

Erynion Orvir |

Erynion's pretty much done now. Shuffled stats as promised, armed him so he can poke monsters up close or from afar. The general thought is to start combats with his naturalist ability and advise teammates of strategies to defeat the monsters, such as "Kick it in the tender bits! Don't get tentacled!", grease things up if necessary, and then pull out a weapon to engage as appropriate, and heal people when necessary.
I also gave him tons of ridiculous equipment. Because who doesn't want to sit down for waffles after trouncing some goblins?
Anyway, he's all rared and ready to study the wonders the world brings him.

Erynion Orvir |

I can flesh out his backstory more if necessary, when I have some time, but the basics are that he was born on the Mordant Spire and grew up among the elves there, but struck out on his own to see the world when he was still a wee lad of about 70. He still retains a lot of the odd mannerisms of the elves of the island, but tends to have a much more open mind about things. He's since spent decades gallivanting about Avistan and northern Garund. He was traveling through Varisia on a leisurely journey to stop by the Mordant Spire again when he heard about the Swallowtail festival and decided to check it out.
