The geography of Korvosa: The city lies on a spit of land between a crook of the Jeggare River and the sea. The Jeggare flows westward from the east, turns north for about a mile and a half then turns west once more to flow for about a mile to the sea.
At the northern end of the city is Endrin Isle, Old Korvosa. An island bounded by the Jeggare on the north, east and west, and by the Strait of St. Alika on the south. Old Korvosa is poor with many slums and a shanty-town built in the streets along the strait.
Many bridges cross the strait, connecting Old Korvosa to the Northgate District. Northgate is wedge-shaped Fat to the east, narrowing to the west. It was a district of prosperous merchants, but more recently has been going to seed as the better heeled families move into the Heights. Northgate also has one of the 2 bridges across the river.
Quick sketch of the City for anyone who needs it.
The Heights run down the western side of the city. Great bluffs form a sea wall and the land slopes gradually downward as you go east to the river. The Heights has many rich and noble families. Notable locations in the Heights are The Acadmeme of Magic, the University of Korvosa, the Temple of Azmodeus (Iron Fist), Castle Korvosa, the temple of Sarenrae, and the Kendall Amphitheater. (Notable locations roughly in order from north to south).
East of the Heights is Midland. MIdland is the thriving commercial district. It's waterfront on the Jeggare has many docks and wharves. At the southern end of Midland is High Bridge across the Jeggare. Just west of the bridge is Eodred's square. North of the bridge is Citadel Volshyenek, home of the Korvosa Guard.
Across the Jeggare from Midland is East Shore. Home to some noble military houses and Theumanexus College (of magic).
SOuth of Midland, but a quarter mile west of the river is the small district of Grey, the city's cemetary and site of the Temple of Pharasma.
South of the Heights is South Shore, the newest district. In it are the Pantheon of Many, and an enclave for the elves.

Thanks, Bill.
The only reason I'm dropping is because I can't think of anything I'd rather run thant CotCT.
I'm running Runelords for my home game, I've already run Shackled City, and I don't have SavageTide or Age of Worms. What can I say, I loves me some adventure paths.
If Second Darkness were coming sooner, I'd stay in this game and run that, but mid-April to mid-August is my peak gaming time!

Dan/Arando has bowed out. Along with Pat/Darvyl that cuts the party down a bit. And eliminates an aarcane caster from the party. Not that you'll need one, but they can be useful.
I was thinking of offering Chris Mortika a spot. He was next on the wait list after Logos who seems to have disappeared from the boards, and I really liked what Chris was doing with Dorman and Siaben until family concerns intervened.
Any comments or other nominees? We could add 2.

Personally I think it might be good if you worked on wrapping up this particular arc and then introduced the new characters for the actual CotCT game. But I'm fine with opening up the game. I think its a necessity in PbP to be able to bring in new blood when some of the old invariably dries up.

I think this is a good course of action. Bringing in new players means they have a lot to catch up on which will take extra time. Let them create their PCs and while they are working on that we can finish up our arc.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Wicht, you're right about finishing up the "intro" before bringing in new blood. Though if Chris wanted to take up Arando, that might work since he's already familiar with that story line. I'll drop him a line.

Have a nice chat. You two may need to reach some knid of understanding. But kindly move smartly along to about 4 pm.
"Steam boat's a coming! " Well not literally, but....

Non-spoilered spoiler in this message. Read at your own risk.
Posted something last night.
Any suggestions on how we can link up with the others?
I have always been here. - Traditional Vorlon Response
The Maggie Bright is coming into port. This afternoon after you finish lunch. Everyone will be there. I hope.

Billzabub |

I'm swamped, but will try to post later. I'm thinking Inigo & Keliwyn keep their lunch conversation casual, and somehow winding up at the courthouse, and from their, heading to the docks. Rather than posting verbatim conversation, I'll probably also just use general statements. The other option would be for Radavel and I to connect in about 12 hours - 11 pm my time (East Coast USA), which is about 11am for you, correct?

thereal thom |

If it's okay with Radavel, I'd be all for Inigo & Keliwyn heading for the courthouse together and then just cutting (via the magic of Hollywood) to the two of them arriving at the docks.
Would it be ok to admit that no matter what you did someone would tell you that the Maggie Bright was docking? Or would that be too railroady?

Hell, it's fine with me. You, as DM, should feel free to narrate. Whether we run into the runner from the harbormaster, someone from the Temple finds Inigo, we get to the courthouse & Keliwyn finds out from Dorman, or we run into Darthen, it all works the same.

CrimsonDM |

Sorry guys! we're at the first combat. I decided I'd like to draw the boat and dockside for the combat but time is short. I think I can get to it tonight though. Keliwyn, are you going into the cabin for brandy or not? Darthen, if he goes will you stay on deck or go too?

thereal thom |

Thom, I might not be able to post in the next couple of days. I;m coming down with the flu. Please do not hesitate to NPC Inigo. Thanks for your patience.
Radavel, no worries. Thanks for the notice. I hope you're feeling better soon.
Gentlemen, CAD model of the boat is almost done. I'll make some jpegs. You may email me at "kenner(underscore)tim at yahoo.com" and I will send them to you.

Guys, you're doing great with the combat. Wish I was doing as well.
I didn't think the encounter through well enough. I had meant for you guys to be tangling with Sven and Nihls while the NPCs sparred with the thugs. Sven and Nihls together are a nasty pair for 1st level characters. But after they started combat with the guards, I realized they couldn't just leave that to come get you guys. So you guys are pulverizing the cannon fodder, while NPCs duke out the main event.
That's like bad DMing 101. Sorry. All I can say is that I'll try to do better in the future.

Billzabub |

I wouldn't sweat it, Tom, and you actually reminded me of a conversation I had with my wife way back when we were doing wedding planning. If things don't go exactly as you had in mind, no one will notice as long as you give them what they expect. That applies the same, whether it's flowers at a reception or a sword fight in a game.

Well, we're almost through the combat. It looks like about 300XP all around for monster-slaying. If someone, say Darthen was to buy it, the experience would go up to 400, Radavel. :p
Throw in 300 XP for excellent, long suffering role play.
And the possiblilty another role play/circumstance bonus in the aftermath of the fight.... You guys will be well on the way to 2nd level.
I know I've asked before, but how do you guys feel about bringing in another player? You're a little short on spell casting. If you feel the need, I'll advertise, or if you know someone ....

Well lets hope Darthen will not bite the bullet. Of course he ran up to Nihls which may be a mistake. Hmm, you said that comment to Radavel. Anything I should know? Maybe I will go back and read those spoiler comments since the fight is almost over.
As far as another player is concerned I don't have a problem with it. I am sure there are a number of people who would like to join in.
