There's been some family drama the past couple of days, and to top it all off my cat is dying (of old age). I'm feeling pretty well like excrement warmed over, so if I don't manage to get around to posting in the next few days, you guys'll know why.
On a more general note, I've been meaning to post for a while that I'm working through some other personal issues which is what's occasionally causing me to not post for a few days at a time. It's not anything serious, and it won't really affect anything much, but I figured it's best to inform folk.

Telp will argue (in his way) against splitting the party, but I won't have time to do that until probably Sunday. Basically he'll raise the ethics of deception by law enforcement: if you don't exploit or entrap, you aren't doing anything wrong by deceiving possible criminals, given appropriate cause, etc. We'll see if that carries any water with Amadea and Drosk.

I don't think that it's so much that we would be deceiving the Razmirans, I think it's that Amadea and Drosk would feel like they're betraying their own deities.

This last week was a trainwreck and I have been remiss in letting folks know what's going on. Bolkin should be done with his schoolwork, and his posting is my tentative date to move things along. (That should be this week or weekend). Apologies for the general delay, and a thanks to folk for understanding.
If there's no renewed discussion about what to do, I'm going to assume the group consensus is to at least attend the meeting to see what it's about.
-
On the subject of further delays, I wanted to give a bit of context instead of vague descriptions, given that this has slowly graduated from mere emotional turmoil to some fairly significant life changes. I'll be attempting to go back to college in the Fall. Most of the time-consuming research portion of this is done, so it's a matter of getting transcripts and finishing up applications which won't take up much more of my time. (Fortunately deadlines are significantly later for transfer students than for freshmen, even if it is still a poor time to have made the decision. Meh.)
Assuming I get accepted - which I won't know for up to a month - I'll likely be completely out of contact for a few days to a week to visit campus and figure out my housing situation (I'm imagining this'll be early to mid June). Then most likely I'll be going through moving hoopla in late July to early August. I'll be sure to keep folk informed when I go dark.
Once that's settled, the game should settle back into some sort of groove. I don't anticipate the college experience being any more disruptive to my posting schedule than the past year of life has been.
ZebulonXenos
If it's not one thing, it's another, and now I've come to learn that trying to get important paperwork sent between colleges on a week abutting a holiday weekend is more nerve-wracking than one might first think. It's more or less out of my hands now, though.
Back in the saddle for now, at least.

Hi guys: sorry for the slow posting. I'm prepping for a trip. I'll be a week with unknown internet, starting tomorrow, so please don't wait for me. Telp will be using his high INT to realize he should keep his mouth closed and not expose his low CHA! :-)
If I can find a way to connect, I might blurt something inappropriate.
ZebulonXenos
So, the college has an online thing for checking on the status of your application. I've been checking this daily, as it is my wont to obsess over such things, and today it now reads admitted to institution. I'm assuming I'll be receiving a letter in short order. So, yay!
That probably means another week-long break not too long from now; I'll keep you fine folks informed.

Woot! Congrats Zeb!
Just a heads-up: I will be on vacation from Saturday, June 23 through Sunday, July 1. Please feel free to 'bot Drosk accordingly during that time. Thanks!
ZebulonXenos
Thanks, guys. And thanks to Drosk for the heads up. Hope you have a good time! Funnily enough I may not be here when you get back, heh.
To answer Amadea's question, without getting to deep into it, I've already got two years of college credits under my belt in a Computer Science major. There were some personal issues after my sophomore year and I've been out for a while.
I didn't really enjoy CS much, and I'm also god-awful at higher math, which is required for that degree. Truth be told my main aim in going back is to do it right this time, to explore my interests and actually get involved. Literally almost any area of study (that doesn't involve calculus, at least) would be good for me. At the moment I'm intending to go for Psychology, which I'm actually interested in despite the fact it's apparently one of the less, uh, useful degrees.
But as I said, mainly I want to do the experience - and I'm fortunate enough to be both young enough and blessed with a family that's willing to put up with that.
Amadea
My degree is in psych. I work in healthcare as a therapist in a hospital setting. If you want any tips on which way to go, I might be able to provide a few insights, though I live in Canada, and our health care system is noteably different from the American one.
It is difficult to get a job with just a bachelors in psych, you'll probably need at least a masters. However, if you can get a job, experience counts for a lot. However, if I was stsrting out again, I'd have taken my degree in Social Work or nursing; probably nursing. Nurses run the world up here in Canadian health care.
ZebulonXenos
Heh, that's roughly my own situation, Javell. I'm fine with just about anything before Calculus, but if I have to take it again, it'll be my third try... Though I have passed it, just not by enough to count for a CS degree's purposes.
And yeah, everything I've heard or read is basically 'Masters or bust', except when it's 'You need a PhD.' As bad as it sounds, I haven't given it a whole ton of thought at this point - I'm intending to suss out my options with my advisor when I meet with them on this upcoming trip, since I'll need their help to figure out exactly what the damage is and how long it'll take to get prereqs and core curriculum stuff out of the way (I'm hoping I can get it done with two years and summer courses, but you never know, heh).
I have confidence that the academic side will work itself out, especially since this go-round I actually want to be there (not to mention I'm more generally mature), whereas last time I was going to college purely because it was expected of me. The relocation should be good for me as well - I'll be just outside of Austin, which is literally halfway across Texas from here.
Also, regarding nurses, I can recall that, outside of my CS classes, it seemed like every second person was going to be a nurse - and this was a school that's reasonably prestigious for its engineering program and has to reject a lot of applicants because their campus is too small (and can't be expanded). I've also heard - purely anecdotal though - that it's fairly hard to find a job in the field around here. Obviously different from Canada, heh.

Congrats, Zeb!
My wife is a computer programmer, and she started out majoring in CS, and then switched to MIS (Management Information Systems?) because she found the CS requirements too hard. She managed to find a good-paying job right out of college (in fact, some of her old CS classmates had more trouble finding a job). If you did any programming on your first go-around and liked that aspect of the major, I'd recommend switching to MIS. It seems like that'll be enough to get your foot in the door somewhere, and after that, it's all a matter of experience and talent.
As for the game, Raven was waiting for Bolkin to speak up. I'll think about stepping forward today. I've been out sick for a couple days, and I've got a lot to catch up on.
ZebulonXenos
Part of my problem is that while I do like programming, it's not in a way that would be conducive to making a living out of it. I had a friend that switched to one of the other CS-related majors (something to do with security, I think) and did get his foot in the door that way. It may be something to give thought to and I appreciate ya'll sharing your experiences.
Insofar as the game goes, Bolkin's player has been sick the past couple of days. I'll give him a push to see if he wants to post when next I see him, then I'll move things along.
ZebulonXenos
Woke up to a phone call that my grandmother had just left in an ambulance. Starting to wonder if the 2012 apocalypse folks aren't on to something, hah.
She's not in any acute danger, but she's been in poor health for a while now. Tests were still being done when we rotated out of the emergency room since there's a strict limit on number of visitors at once.
I'll move things along after I nap or possibly tomorrow.
ZebulonXenos
Ugh, July pretty much kicked me everywhere I'd rather not be kicked. Between some unexpected setbacks, general preparation, family drama including both hospitals and pressed charges (those two are, thankfully, independent), and general anxiety about all of the above, I haven't had a lot of productive free time.
There are a couple of weeks yet left before I'll be settled, but if we've still got folk around by mid-August I'll be happy to try and pick this back up. For now I'm hoping to get a rolecall of who's stuck around.
Bolkin Reid
I haven't been super-active myself (for myriad reasons, let's just say my medical bill got much bigger over these past couple months) but I still pay attention to what's going on in the adventure. Sparse as I may be at times I don't intend to actually abandon ship anytime soon.
Javell DeLeon
Still here. But I have to say, seeing how I've had issues with the dots in some threads, I just now told myself, "You know, I better check this thread." Sure enough, there's Zeb's post.
I'm glad I checked. I think those dots vanish after a period of time and probably aren't popping up for the others.
So if you don't get a response from the others, it's possible they're scrolling through their threads and seeing no dot.
I can say for sure that Tyrrol is still around. I'm in another game with him and he's not been getting dots in that one as well. The DM in that one can only post sparingly due to RL issues as well.
Real sorry to hear about your July, Zeb. Man that totally stinks. I sure hope August will be far kinder to you, bud.
ZebulonXenos
Hah! August is going to be really busy, but it should be a good kind of busy. Today was the first day I was able to make an appointment to be advised, so I'm actually posting from a motel. The situation is about what one would expect for how late I was and changing majors - but I can make a full course load. Housing is also taken care of and I'll be moving in on the 19th.
That makes my 'mid-August' estimate slightly off - I'll be settling in that first week, school starts on the 27th, and I'll be scurrying around finishing off miscellaneous odds and ends during that week, then obviously classes start. Most of them are freshman-level core requirement stuff due to the major change, so I doubt it'll be overly difficult. I'll be playing it by ear, but I imagine we'll get things rolling around early September at the latest.
Thanks for hanging around, guys. I'll send a PM to the others sometime too.
ZebulonXenos
Dropping in to let folks know the move-in went fairly well, though there was some nonsense with the place being re-floored and there are a few outstanding issues (the dishwasher doesn't work, for one). Overall it's gone well and I've been reacquainting myself with the campaign. I still hope to start things up again sometime after class does - maybe the next week, depending.
I've also spent the last few days going about campus on miscellaneous errands and the place is both sprawling and hilly. I'm not used to that much exercise, either, so I want to hedge my bets in case I wind up borderline indisposed from leg strain, heh.
Amadea
Zeb, I'd like to modify Amadea to have the Redeemer Half-Orc Paladin archetype. I think the theme fits what I have been trying to portray with her so far perfectly. It does nothing dramatic so far, just giving a merciful option to smite evil, and exchanging Detect Evil for a monster diplomacy bonus.
Drosk Ironhame
I thought I remembered Zeb saying that he did HP the Pathfinder Society way at level-ups. Let me check...
EDIT: Yup, here's the quote:
Thanks for bringing up the HP thing, Javell - I'd forgotten to mention that I'm using the Pathfinder Society method for handling HP (which is the average rounded up; i.e. 4 for d6 classes, 5 for d8, 6 for d10, and 7 for d12). Randomized HP has always bothered me, especially since I've been in just about every position imaginable with repeated 1s rolled for hit dice.
So that should give Telp an additional HP.
As for Drosk, I'm trying to decide what feat to take at 3rd level. Guess I could always go with the tried-and-true Selective Channeling.
ZebulonXenos
re: Selective Channeling: A general observation is I'll likely be throwing more foes at the party than is usual since it's a fairly large party. But, generally, if you're focusing fire (usually the smart tactic in-and-out of character), it could still have its uses (and arguably more so if damage is more spread out amongst the large party!) I'd say it's your call, and Drosk has certainly gotten use out of his channeling in the past (even if it was vs. Undead, heh)
re: Pathfinder Society-style HP: I should have reminded folk. I've always been against randomness in character creation/advancement, in part because I just think it's nice to have a level playing field and in part because I'm 'that guy' who always manages to come out with poor attribute rolls and a 1 on his HP... as a character who regularly wades into melee.
